Why has no one noticed that the MacBook has been dropped!
For the first time since the iBook there is no longer a low-end laptop in the Apple lineup. And no one noticed.

I guess I fall into the "didn't notice" category. The plastic MacBooks haven't been updated since May 2010, and I suspect the incredibly strong sales of MacBook Air are the reason it's gone now. MacBook Air is the intended replacement, I suspect.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

The MacBook has been replaced by the MacBook Air. Goodbye old paint, I mean Macbook and Hello MacBook Air. A smaller, lighter, but more capable machine with i5 or i7 processors and better graphics. A wise choice that makes the MacBook Pro have to watch over its shoulders as it may be next to go.

Problem is for the $999 of a MacBook you only get an 11" Air. To get the equivalent of the old MacBook in a MacBook Air you need to pay $1299 for the 13" Air + 79 for the Superdirve, then the 13" MacBook Pro is the better alternative. But it is still $1199 not the 13" MacBook's $999 or $1099. Basically another price increase to cover the fancy SSD in the Air and the "Pro" in MacBook Pro.

Maybe, but the market gets what the market wants. The Air is Apple's top-selling Macbook.
