Subject: [*] Coffee Timer 1.0.2 FAT
Price: $10 (shareware)
Source: ftp://ftp.alpcom.it/software/mac/LMontalcini
FAT VERSION - CONTAINS BOTH 680x0 AND NATIVE POWERPC CODE
The Coffee Timer is a very simple countdown timer I built after frying my third
coffee pot. Like many other programmers, I often drink coffe while working - I
mean Italian expresso coffee, the kind you make with a "moka" coffee pot.
However, I don't usually wait for the coffee to be ready before going back to
work, which often results in the coffee pot being forgotten on the fire for
hours. This is a programmer's solution to the problem: a simple countdown timer
with a loud alarm and a couple of other useful options.
For those of you who need more flexibility in their timer, the Coffee Timer
allows a KeyQuencer macro to be run when the timer times out. This lets you
instruct your Mac to do pretty much anything at alarm time. The Coffee Timer
works with both KeyQuencer 1.2.x and the forthcoming KeyQuencer 2.0 (which you
don't want to miss!).
Quite obviously, the Coffee Timer is not limited to your daily coffee break.
You
can use it to remind yourself of anything that must happen in the near
future...
filling the bath tub? taking a short sleep? delaying a fax? Just launch the
Coffee Timer and let it help your memory and your watch.
You may even put an alias to Coffee Timer in your Startup Items folder to
prevent
yourself from sitting in front of your Mac for long periods of time. All
you have
to do is take a break every time the timer starts bugging you...
New in version 1.0.2:
- Added an option to automatically switch to background
upon launch.

its database, most to 14 digit precision. New units can be added. Supports
ft/in/fractions, scientific notation and control of significant digits. Can
also convert currencies, clock times, and many physical constants. On-line
info on the history and development of modern measurement systems.
ConvertUnits Pro 'Lite' is a fully functional measurement unit conversion
program with an initial 25 conversion limit allowing access to any of the
over 1500 units in the database. After this initial trial period, a
reduced data set of 57 units will remain operational indefinitely.
ConvertUnits Pro 'Lite' is shareware that can be obtained from us or

to full status. ConvertUnits Pro=81 'Lite' download file is approximately
500k (remember, the full database is built into the program).
If you find the shareware version useful but do not wish to upgrade to the
full version, we ask for a $10 registration fee, payable by check or money
order. If you decide to upgrade, you will be credited $15 for being so
honest.
We encourage you to distribute ConvertUnits Pro=81 'Lite' as widely as you l=

SUBJECT: Tool for creating installer applications
DragInstall is a utility that allows you to create custom installer
applications.
In these installer applications, installation options are presented as icons
which end users simply drag to install. DragInstall's Builder application
allows
you to specify the files and folders to be installed, plus rules that allow for
conditional installation based on system attributes. DragInstall 2.0 includes
options for finding, deleting, patching, and displaying messages during
installation. Compression is included and multiple disks are handled
automatically.
This version of DragInstall allows you to build installers that last for
just one
day. This restriction is eliminated when the product is registered. Additional
product and pricing information is enclosed in this package.

Subject: [*] Icon Archiver 2.0 FAT
Price: $25 (shareware, see docs for more info)
Source: ftp://ftp.alpcom.it/software/mac/LMontalcini
------ THE BEST ICON DATABASE EVER SEEN ON THE MAC ! -------
The Icon Archiver is an extremely powerful database
specifically designed for easy icon storage and retrieval. It
can quickly scan whole disks or folders and grab all the icons
they contain, including those you won't ever see in the Finder
and all icon archives created by other icon utilities. It can
easily export them in most graphics formats, including the ones
you need for your web pages. Drag & Drop is fully supported, so
you can create or stick custom icons by simply dragging them
around. All icons are compressed on the fly to save memory and
disk space, and archives can contain a very large number of
icons (unlike all other icon utilities which are limited to a
few hundreds). Advanced features include removing duplicate
icons, sorting them by shape, filtering them by size or color
depth, and viewing them in many different ways. The Archiver
includes native PowerPC code and its icon handling routines are
highly optimized for maximum speed.
Even if you hate custom icons, you'll be fascinated by the
number of icons that come out of a typical shareware CD-ROM like
the ones that are bundled with many Mac magazines. No matter
what you use your Mac for, this is guaranteed to give you
countless hours of fun and entertainment as well as a much nicer
desktop.
New in version 2.0:
- The Archiver now supports external plugins that let you export
your icons directly in many useful graphics formats (including
PICT, PNG, cicn, GIF, TIFF, JPEG and more).
- Keyboard navigation of the icon lists is now implemented, so
you can use the arrow keys or type an icon's name to select it.
- Added basic archive recovery capabilities to resurrect some
corrupted archives, typically those broken by a system crash
that prevented the disk cache from being properly flushed to
disk; hold down the Option key when choosing Open from the File
menu to enable archive recovery.
- Added compatibility modes for System versions that cause the
Archiver to crash; hold down the Option or Control key when
launching the Archiver to manually disable some of its features.

Subject: [*] MacSOUP 2.2b6 - an offline reader for news and mail
MacSOUP is an offline reader for news and mail.
This is mainly a bug fix release:
- Fixed a stupid bug that crept in with 2.2b4: with certain

available articles (it would skip every other article).
- Fixed a bug in the AppleScript code. When telling MacSOUP
to fetch news, it would sometimes fetch tagged headers
instead, or vice versa, or both.
Also, there are some added commands that are available when you
hold down the option key while a menu is pulled down; for

Subject: [*] MyEyes 2.1.3
What is MyEyes?
MyEyes is a small extension that draws on the menubar a pair of eyes
constantly following the cursor movement.
What's new in MyEyes 2.1.3
- Recompiled with CodeWarrior 10.
- Some parts of the extension's code have been rewritten in order to
enhance its robustness and compatibility and reduce the "double eyes"
effect (if you don't know what I'm talking about, luckily you've never seen
it).
- The MyEyes Extension is now FAT, i.e. it contains both 68k and
PowerPC code.
- The extension's memory partition has been raised to 80k to avoid
possible 'out of memory' errors on machines running the latest Mac OS
updates (especially the new 7.5.5).
- A "shareware reminder" now appears at startup if you are running an
unregistered version of MyEyes.
- The setup application now sports a better looking interface, with a
trendy 3D style.
- Clicking on the URLs and e-mail addresses in the setup application's
about dialog automatically launches your Web browser or e-mail application
(requires Internet Config 1.1 or later) .
- The MyEyes package is now distributed in form of an easy to use
"Installer" application.
- Updated the documentation as usual.
Requirements
MyEyes requires System 7 and color Quickdraw; Apple Events handling
capability is needed too.
Installation
Starting with version 2.1.3 the MyEyes package is distributed in form of an
"Installer" application.
To install MyEyes just launch the installer and follow the simple
instructions. It is recommended to restart your Macintosh after
installation.
Distribution
MyEyes is 10$ shareware.
You can distribute MyEyes freely, provided that you leave the software and
the accompanying documentation unchanged. You can include MyEyes in CD-ROMs
and other software collections only by previous agreement.
Thanks and best regards.

OK, here is another way of looking at Dynamo. Your Power Macintosh can run
several applications at the same time along with the Finder. The Mac operat=
ing
system (Mac OS) tries its best to give each application as much time to run =
as
possible. This means that each running application (app) will get a chance
every
so often to use the PowerPC chip in your Mac in order to do some calculation=
s
(handle a mouse click, display typed text, etc.). This is why you can still
download something from the internet with one app while typing a report with
another app.
How does Ootinta Dynamo figure into this?
Well, the Mac OS does a good job at giving all your apps a little time to
work at
regular intervals. It does this so fast you almost never notice it. Howeve=
r,
there are times when it would be wonderful to give a particular app just a
little
more time to work so it can get things done faster, or conversely take a lit=
tle
bit of time away from an app so other apps get more time. Ootinta Dynamo le=
ts
you do that. There are also other powerful features in Dynamo for managing
applications running on your Mac. We will explain these later in the manual=
.
But who needs Dynamo?
Just about anyone can benefit from some feature of Dynamo. The time managem=
ent
that Dynamo provides is ideally suited to users who do time consuming tasks.=
If
an app takes a long time to do something, then most likely Dynamo can help i=
t
out. But even if you don't use Dynamo's time managing features, there are o=
ther
features that give you powerful tools for dealing with running applications.
What Do You Need to Use Ootinta Dynamo=81 1.0?
A PowerMac or a PowerPC based Mac clone.
Mac OS 7.1 or greater.
Dynamo has a shareware price of US $20.00 and a trial grace period of 30 day=
s.
You will find a file in the Ootinta Dynamo=81 Folder called Dynamo License &
Registration. Just read and fill out that form then mail it to us with your
payment. It's that simple!

Subject: [*] Polyominoes 6.0 68K
Polyominoes 6.0 is an addicting game based on polyominoes.
A polyomino is a piece made up entirely of squares connected
edge-to-edge. For example, a domino is a polyomino with 2 squares. In
Polyominoes, you can use pentominoes, tetrominoes, trominoes, hexominoes,
or create a set of your own pieces using the Piece Editor.
Polyominoes is really three games in one. In game mode, you have a very
interesting strategy game in which you try to put the last piece on the
board. The pieces can be flipped or rotated in any manner. You can use
any of the 90 different boards, or create one of your own using the Board
Editor. In puzzle mode, you can try to place all the pieces on any of
the boards. In spanning puzzle mode, you try to "span" the board with
the fewest number of pieces. The program keeps track of all of your best
efforts.
Polyominoes is Shareware, $8.00 registration fee. Please visit the
Polyominoes Web Site at
http://members.aol.com/KevinGong3/poly/polyhome.html
Major changes since version 5.0:
* a better user interface
* PowerPC Native version
* translucent dragging of pieces on Power Macintoshes
* improved graphics
* balloon help for menus
* 28 new Pentomino boards, bringing the total to 90
* the ability to print boards and pieces
* support for larger monitors
* More piece sets
* The ability to play with 1-sided pieces
* Bug fixes and more!

Subject: Beta testing PointCast 0.9.0.42
Well,
I gave it my best. And after 2 days, I ripped the thing off my system. I'll
wait for a better behaved version.
Pointcast installs itself in many places but one annoying thing it does is
install itself in your "Open at Startup" folder. Try as I might, I found no
way to turn the thing off once it is started. It just starts and from then
on periodically goes fetching news. I'm on a T1 line and even on such a
line, PCN takes quite a while to grab news. The other thing is that when it
is on one of its errands, you can kiss goodbye to your computer. Suddenly
your keyboard gets very sluggish. I am talking 10-15 seconds before
anything happens. If you are typing while not looking a the screen, you may
see that whole sentences have disappeared. It only crashed my machine once
which is better than most versions of Netscape.
My only other gripe is with the timelyness of the news. Tonite (December
9th), the latest NBA, NFL and NHL scores and standings were from the 5th.
Even my local rag does better than that.
Actually, the same is true of a lot of those services. My favorite is the
Morning Edition News that comes in around 1630h sometimes.

Could not make it....
Tried to go by the bookmarks in Archie, and downloaded some fonts,
that went well...
Where is the "link" that i missed? Do I need some more software? When
I tried to double-click on a .hqx icon, MacLinkPlus started to convert

Can you please help me? I would love to download some Adobe programs

Thanks!

Do you folks know of any conflict or new problem in this situation: I've
now updated by Performa 6200 to run Open Transport 1.1.1. under OS

down, giving me an Install "Telephone Manager 2.0 or better Ext"

I can't do now is reinstate the old 7.5.1 "system suitcase" it used to
work with. (That's the official old fix to the "no Tel Mgr 2.0"

Switching to classic networking doesn't seem to matter--though Megaphone
worked with 7.5.5's elements fine before I went back in and got the OT
working.
Is there some way you know of to fix this-?
