Subject: [*] "Star Spangled StartUp" 8-bit/22kHz
Clixsounds introduces a new, patriotic freeware startup sound called the
"Star Spangled StartUp!" Perfect for the upcoming 4th of July or anyone
wanting to give a patriotic, American touch to their Macintosh, the Start
Spangled StartUp is an excellent quality, fully orchestrated sound file
that plays when you start your computer.
The Star Spangled StartUp sound is a very climatic rendition of the last
line of the Star Spangled Banner, composed of an entire symphony
orchestra full of strings, brass, and percussion instruments that boom
with clarity. The sound is approximately 8 seconds long and has
excellent stereo quality.
It is available here in 8-bit, 22kHz stereo, but the 16-bit/44.1kHz
version can be downloaded from the Clixsounds WWW site at:
No extra software is needed for playing at startup, and instructions are
included for installation.

Subject: [*] bib.db 1.7
This is "bib. db." (vers 1.7), a FileMaker Pro (2.1) database that will
generate both footnotes & bibliographical references according to the type
of source you have. I produced this database to track literature for my PhD
dissertation in history. Its output is flagged for formatting by a word-
processor (Includes Nisus Macro to do the job), but also can provide a
non-formatted output for those who don't want to fiddle with that stuff or
don't have Nisus. The database determines the bibliographical item's source
type by itself. (e.g., whether it is an article, monograph, dissertation, &
cetera).
Comes with instructions. Is configured also to automatically send a
footnote citation over to Nisus where it's automatically formatted.
New in this version: includes a script to export a non-flagged
bibliographical list.

Subject: [*] Default Folder 2.6.1
Default Folder is a shareware control panel that enhances Open and Save
dialog boxes to make it easier for you to manage files on your Macintosh.
It provides many of the essential features of the commercial SuperBoomerang
and Directory Assistance utilities, but without the infrequently used
extras that take their toll in compatibility, memory, and CPU usage.
Default Folder's time-saving Open and Save dialog enhancements allow you to:
- Set up a default folder for any or all applications.
- Switch among recently used folders from a pop-up menu.
- See available disk space and switch between disks from a pop-up menu.
- Click on a Finder window to display it in an Open or Save dialog.
- Create folders, get information (including changing name, type, and
creator), and move items to the Trash from within file dialogs.
- "Rebound" back to the last file you used.
- Make "Replace" the default option instead of "Cancel" when saving
a file with the same name as an existing file.
- Speed up the display of Open and Save dialogs by turning off custom
color icons in the file list.
Default Folder will operate on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher,
and is accelerated for PowerPC. In addition to the standard internet
archives, information and updates are available at:
This program may be included on the Info-Mac and Umich CD-ROMs.
Changes in this release:
- A conflict that disabled PopUp Folder's buttons in file dialogs has
been fixed.
- A bug that caused WordPerfect to crash has been fixed.
- A long-standing problem with initialization of some data structures
in memory has been corrected. This should fix problems some users
have experienced with corruption of Default Folder's preferences
file, random type 11 crashes, conflicts with Speech Recognition,
and "Not enough memory" errors when opening applications.
- You can now select and copy text in the online help.

Subject: [*] ISO Issue Release - #14
Boy can a day make a difference...
Here is the good stuff we have this issue - plus some *really* good
BONUS files.
We've got our follow up article that shows you how to create user
stored searches and its accompanying BONUS file. We also go into the
basics of the Web and how it works with FileMaker.
We offer some instructional tips on how to provide good FileMaker
services. You'll also find a cool article that deals with using popups as
filtering mechanisms. Some real useful interface techniques show up with
a nice little BONUS file demonstrating how to do it.
Included for Macintosh FileMaker users is an article about Blazing
Fast AppleScript and yet another BONUS file showing off the technique.
Macintosh users will also notice that their archive is about 250K
larger than average. This is because of a very neat utility for working
with multiple windows while developing in FileMaker. It's a fully stand
alone application that helps you with productivity in FileMaker.
And last but not least we bring you the AppleScript Database shell
that is a handy collection tool for storing AppleScripts. Also a neat
learning tool!

Subject: [*] Italian Verbs 1.1 - language program
"Italian Verbs 1.1" is the new improved version of my Italian Verbs
application.
Italian Verbs is an application that helps you learn and refresh your
knowledge about conjugation rules of Italian verbs.
The program comes with a predefined database of 144 irregular Italian verbs.
You can freely add new verbs and modify existing ones. You can easily add
comments to every verb. This is convenient to store the example sentences
associated with given verb. The conjugation rules are presented for all
available Modi, Tempi combinations. You can find even more information
about each verb (ausiliare, intransitivo/transitivo, conj. pattern number,
English translation, part. presente, part. passato, gerundio) there. You can
associate a sound (record sound and play it back) with each verb.
The program has an exercise window. It is useful to determine
if your knowledge is sufficient. You can also attach databases prepared by
other users to your own verbs database.

While Central America has seen more than its share of atrocities in recent
years; never before has a lovely Guatemalan folk song been brutalized as
thoroughly as by the vocal stylings of JARED, the Head of Security at
FREEVERSE SOFTWARE.
Like an angry Immigration officer, Jared's distinctive rendition grabs us,
slaps us around, threatens to cavity search us and ultimately demands our
passport be issued from that same circle of hell from which his voice
originates.
Never has the mating of cats sounded so melodic as after one has listened
to "El Carnicero de Canciones." the "Butcher of Songs," as Jared was
known in Guatemala. Yet, this is perhaps the worst part, one is somehow
drawn to his song, playing it over and over again. So listen to,
"Shayla-uuugh", and suffer -- for this is art.

Kinematic Land is a graphic simulation system of kinematic chains for
Macintosh and accelerated for PowerMacintosh. It resolves the position,
the speed and the acceleration of any point and any member. You can edit
closed or opened chains, using blocked and movable points. Standard tools
are available in a palette window to make easy editing. Every member or
point could have indipendent time evolution.
You control any kinematic size through an unlimited number of control
windows adjustable on your screen. More new features have to come in
next releases.
Some examples are bundled, like the model of a rod & crank in internal
combustion engines, the core mechanism of a textile machine, the principle
of motion-picture projectors, a car suspension, an heavy machinery an others.
Help system is integrated with an AppleGuide, though coaching isn't even

Subject: [*] Knot 3.6 (FAT) abstract 3-D graphics designer
Knot, now Power Macintosh-native, lets you create large 3-D color
animations and stills of beautiful abstract knots. You design the knot's
form, colors, motion, backgrounds and lighting - or design and render
entire animations automatically. It's an endless source of gorgeous
moving backgrounds and photocollage elements for your work.
* Easy to use: knots will design themselves if you want, or you can
exert fine control
* Renders standard TIFFs, QuickTime movies, QTVR objects, & icons
* Fast background rendering: still pictures in a few minutes,
animations in a half-hour
* Create red/blue and paired-image 3D stereograms with one click. 3D
movies too!
* Beautiful graphic interface
Knots are 3-D abstract shapes which many people say look "something
like intestines", but MacFormat magazine says "Design fantastic,
beautiful images on your Mac with this easy to use graphics program. With
a wealth of options to stretch your artistic talent, the program produces
its wonderful creations in just minutes."
Version 3.6 runs faster than before and now gives you higher
resolution and "ribbons," assorted lighting effects, 3-D, and tons of
examples. Multiple colored light sources illuminate curved, segmented,
glowing, buckled, iridescent, wet, and segmented strands, with animated
previews, all in 24-bit poster-size color.
Knot requires a color Macintosh; System 7 or later; QuickTime for
making animations; and at least 6MB memory (8MB recommended). You can use
your creations with any paint program or movie player.

Subject: [*] Menu Madness v.1.1 (yummy!)
This small little program was designed to help all those slaving away in
offices, all those who can't tear themselves away from the T.V. or computer
and pretty much anyone these days who has trouble deciding which of the
many resturants to order in from.
Simply add the name of all the restaurants that you order from to the menus
list and run MENU MADNESS! The program will choose, at random, and in a
silly way, from one of your choices.
Join the likes of the Woz (founder of Apple Computer) and other regestered
users, abdicate any last shred of freewill, and use menu madness.

Subject: [*] Orniwell 2.2 (Text Viewer & Searcher)
Orniwell 2.2 is the text viewer for the rest of us.
If you use large text files try it, you will love it.
Orniwell allows to look at big text files in a unusual fashionably
'Macintosh' way.
Orniwell is powerfull but very easy and fast to use.
To search for a string simply type it in the alwais on-line field in the bottom
of the window, Orniwell will show how many string were found and best of
all will show all them in vivid color and underlined!
You can navigate through the text using the keyboard or the mouse!
You can change the key string and indicizing again in a flash!
And more...
Open how many files you like, Orniwell doesn't use its RAM partition, it uses
only the needed RAM from the total RAM memory!
2 new wedger agents in this 2.2 version :
- Placer, to let place windows at prefixed position on screen
- Closer, to auto-open the open-dialog when closing windows
Combining Wedgers action you can automatize the work.
Inclusion in CD ROM is allowed.
It's faster than you can think also in the 68k version!
Native (and faster) PPC version is available too!

Subject: [*] QuickPop 2.1
QuickPop does just two things, but was designed to do them very well. This
program performs functions that will benefit any Mac user and is extremely
simple to set up and use. You can now define all those useless function
keys on your extended keyboard (along with any other keys) to perform
useful tasks!
The first is to allow you to assign "Hotkeys" to up to fifty (50)
applications, documents, Apple Menu Items, control panels, FKEYs, monitor
depth (colors) or speaker volume settings. When the "Hotkeys" are pressed
>From within most any application, the selected item will instantly launch
(or change speaker or monitor settings).
The second is to allow you to have a menu pop up anywhere on the screen
when you hold a key (option, command, control or shift in any combination)
and click and hold down the mouse button. From this pop-up menu you can
launch your favorite documents, applications, control panels, FKEYs, Apple
Menu Items, change monitor depth (colors) settings, change the speaker
level or switch to any other running application.
New Features in version 2.1
Fixes several bugs found in earlier versions. If QuickPop would not run on
your computer before, that has now been fixed. Also, you can no longer
assign the same key to two different items.
Some uses for QuickPop:
* Change monitor settings (for those games that require
different monitor settings) and assign a single key to
instantly switch to 16 colors, 256 colors or Black &
white, whatever you need!
* Have a key (or keys) to turn the speaker off or to a
different level, no need to go to the Sound control panel
anymore!
* Launch your favorite application, document, control
panel, FKEY or Apple menu item at the touch of a key
(or keys).

Subject: [*] SimStapler v.6.1
The first true office equiptment simulator, SimStapler=A9 brings all of the
thrill and excitement of a "real" stapler right to your computer screen!
Untill now, the dream of stapling without a stapler remained just that, a
dream. Only with the latest advances in virtual reality technologies has
that dream become a true reality! Today, anyone with a multi-thousand
dollar Macintosh computer, color monitor, keyboard and mouse, can enjoy the
act of virtually stapling, without the expense and bother of a "real"
stapler.
It has been said that it is humanity's imagination that sets us apart from
the beasts of the field. Now, your children can learn to be more human by
imagining they are stapling two sheets of paper together, with SimStapler=A9
Having ones children be "human" isn't the only benefit of SimStapler=A9.
Adults can pretend they are stapling three or more pages together. They can
even imagine they are stapling one thousand pages together. Try THAT with a
"real" stapler!
Perhaps you would like to staple the Declaration of Independence to the
Magna Carta? Or, your phone bill to the Book of Kells? With SimStapler=A9 an=
d
your imagination it's "no problem!"

Stereo 3D is a program that allows the creation of random-dot stereograms,
as seen in many books including the Magic Eye=81 series. It is quick, fast,

Subject: [*] SuperGraph 1.0
SuperGraph is a powerful, easy-to-use, inexpensive program to graph
explicit and implicit mathematical functions. Implicit expressions,
ones that cannot easily be solved for either x or y, have presented a
challenge to visualize. SuperGraph makes that a thing of the past.
For example, SuperGraph can graph complex expressions in two variables
like y^2(y-1)-x^2(y^2-1)+2xy^2-x^4=0. And best of all, it's only $15
(payable through Kagi Shareware or directly to the author at 90 Maple
Drive, Great Neck, NY 11021).
SuperGraph differs from Apple's Graphing Calculator in its flexibility
and customizability when dealing with implicit expressions (which
Graphing Calculator does not directly support) and in its ability to
run on 680x0 (non-PowerPC) Macintosh computers.
SuperGraph is especially suited to demonstrating various implicit
expressions and techniques of sketching them in a classroom situation.
SuperGraph requires either a PowerPC processor or a 68020, 68030 or
68040 with math coprocessor (FPU).
More information about SuperGraph is available at

Subject: [*] Voldeps 1.5
Voldeps is, simply put, the coolest Mac Utility out there. Not to
mention one of the most useful.
It includes five functions that make using your Mac ten times easier.
First, it allows you to change the sound volume easily, with ONE key.
No more trips to the sound control panel.
Second, it allows you to change the monitor depth easily (one click).
No more trips to the monitors control panel.
Third, it has a simple screensaver. No fish, toasters, frills, or LOADS
of memory. It has all the features (sleep corners, etc.) but uses
hardly ANY memory.
Fourth, it allows you to set four applications that you can Quick-Open.
You can assign one application per FKey. On my system, F9 opens
ClarisWorks, F10 America On-Line, F11 MS Word, F12 Netscape 2.01. Just
one key.
Fifth, it allows you to QUICK eject a disk. No more gray ghosts left
behind when you hit Command-E. No more searching for the disk icon.
And no more trips to the finder to do so.
This is a very useful utility---based on some of my other succesful
utilities.
And now you can pay by credit card!
Try it out now!

Subject: [*] YA-NewsWatcher version 2.2.0b12
YA-NewsWatcher version 2.2.0b12 has just been released. It has been sent
to MacGifts for redistribution via the many Info-Mac ftp mirror sites
world-wide. Patience may be required, however, as recently it has taken
up to two weeks for new submissions to show up on Info-Mac sites and to be
announced in the Info-Mac Digest.
Yet Another NewsWatcher is a Usenet newsreader application for Macintosh,
featuring binary and anonymous remailer posting, flexible article
filtering (kill files) and sorting, support for PGP via AppleScript,
reference-based threading, and multiple character set support.
Version 2.2.0b12 replaces all previous versions. This is a feature
addition and refinement release. Notable changes and improvements since
the last official release (2.2.0b7) include:
* Fixed a bug that caused the Get Newsgroup Description to not work with
subject windows opened from the full group list.
* Added 3 custom apple events. There are sample AppleScripts included
with the program that work with MacPGP to allow messages to be signed,
signatures on articles to be verified, etc..
* Recent versions of YA-NW could not run on Macs that lack Color
QuickDraw (i.e. old Macs without a 68020 or better CPU). An alert was
displayed when trying to run the program on such machines. I believe
(but do not guarantee) that YA-NW will again run on non-Color
QuickDraw machines, so the alert and forced quit have been removed.
Yet Another NewsWatcher is free. It may not be sold for profit or included
with software or other products which are sold for profit without the
permission of Northwestern University. Otherwise it may be freely
distributed.
Yet Another NewsWatcher was developed by Brian Clark based on the original
NewsWatcher application by John Norstad. It requires a Macintosh running
System 7.0 or later with 2.5 megabytes or more of memory and a hard drive.
The Mac must be connected to the Internet, and MacTCP or Open Transport
must be properly installed and configured. Unlike the original
NewsWatcher, YA-NewsWatcher may NOT run on machines without Color
QuickDraw (which includes all 68000 Macs).
For dialup use, YA-NewsWatcher works with the various SLIP and PPP
programs, and with ARA together with an appropriately configured
AppleTalk/IP gateway. It is strictly an online newsreader, and it does not
support any other kind of dialup connection. The program requires an
active full TCP/IP connection to the Internet. It does not support offline
newsreading, and it does not support older kinds of dialup connections
designed primarily for simple terminal emulation.

Subject: [*] Yank 1.2.1
Yank is a $15 shareware application that does two things:
1) Uninstalls an application and files created by the application by moving
them to the Trash.
2) Cleans up your Preferences folder by moving outdated files to the Trash.
Nothing is deleted - all files are moved to the Trash.
Open the Trash folder and watch those unneeded files pile up! If you want
to replace the files, click on them, and select "Put Away" from the File
menu (command-Y).
Yank is a fat-binary application, which means it runs in native mode on a
Power Macs and 68K Macs. System 7 is required.
For more information, please see the files in the User's Manual folder.
New for 1.2:
* When uninstalling, you can now select which files that are related to the
application to uninstall, and which files to leave alone. For example,
suppose you want to uninstall Microsoft Word, yet keep all your Microsoft
Word documents. Now you can easily do that with Yank 1.2.
New for 1.2.1:
* Some earlier versions of system software for Power Macs do not contain
the Translation Manager necessary for displaying icons associated with an
application. Previously there was no check for the Translation Manager,
and Yank would simply crash if it was not present. Now there is a check,
and if the Translation Manager is not present, an alert is displayed
stating such.
