Subject: [*] ANT DEMO V2.2

ANT_HTML.DOT is a template designed to work within Word 6.0 and
~~~~~~~~~~~~ above to facilitate the creation of hypertext documents.
HTML codes can be inserted into any new or
previously prepared Word document or any ASCII document.
ANT_HTML Version 2.2 is cross-platform and works in:
* Word for Macintosh
* Word for Windows
* NT
* WIN95
* In International Versions of Word 6.0 (and above)
The program includes three toolbars, one of which is user-programmable.
*Any* and *All* HTML tags may be entered into an HTML document.
The Ant program provides WYSIWYG support for all HTML 2.0 spec tags
as well as many Netscape extensions and proposed HTML 3.0 spec tags.
The program also contains...
~ The HTML to WYSIWYG utility (described below)
~ A feature which simplifies the creation of forms
~ A tool to convert "special characters"
(e.g. cedillas, umlauts, etc.)
~ The means to create .DOC, .ASCII, RTF or other files
from HTML files.
~ The means to make hard copies of HTML documents sans
the HTML tags.
The Ant_Demo program is a working version of the Ant_HTML program
with a few exceptions. There are no timing devices which render
the program inoperable. Instead, the Ant inserts additional messages.
Installation in both programs consists of opening a file and clicking a
button.
You have my permission to also include it on the
commercially available CD-ROM of the archives, if you like.
Subject: [*] Bard App
This is a standalone version of a HyperCard stack which serves as a song
book or song database. Originally written to help the author with his SCA
Bardic songbook, it's primary focus is lyrics, but there is some support
for the tune as well. If you have HyperCard or the HyperCard player, we
recommend that you use the stack version, as it is smaller. More
information is available in the help card of the stack.
Subject: [*] ChordBook v1.2 -- An Interactive Chord Book for Guitar (update)
*** v1.2 adds printing of chord diagrams! ****
ChordBook v1.2 provides chord lookup for guitar in standard tuning, and
additional chord processing for 40 non-standard guitar tunings. In the
standard tuning library, 23 chord types are supported with 3 or 4 different
fingerings each, depending upon the chord. To plot a chord diagram, select
the root of the chord from the Root menu, and the type of the chord from
the Type menu. Then, diagram it with the Form 0,1,2,3 buttons from the
tool bar. Non-standard tunings do not contain these built-in chords, but
full use of the Neck Window functions are supported (see below).
In standard tuning, Form 0 chords are available for Major, Minor,
Major 7th, and Dominant 7th chord forms and are generally the open or
common forms of the chord. Form 1 chords generally have the root on
the 6th string. Form 2 chords generally have the root on the 5th string,
and Form 3 chords generally have the root on the 2nd and/or 5th string.
The Neck Window view provides additional chord lookup functions.
This window allows the browsing of chord fingerings over the neck and
has a Name-that-Chord function which recognizes 40 different chords in
standard and non-standard tunings. These user-created chord voicings may
then be diagramed in the chord editor window.
This function requires a Macintosh with System 7.1 or higher and a 68020,
68030, 68040, or PowerPC processor. A color monitor with at least 480
lines is highly recommended. QuickTime with the QuickTime Musical
Instruments extension is required for sound output.
Subject: [*] ClickPad II 2.0.1
This is ClickPad II version 2.0.1 (March 1996), Copyright (c) 1996 Dan
Wright. Based on ClickPad 1.0 by Bruce Oberg.
ClickPad II requires a PowerBook with a TrackPad; specifically, the
PowerBook 190, 500, and 5300 families are supported. You can now just tap
the TrackPad to click the mouse button, double-tap to double-click, or
tap-drag to lock the button down for dragging.
Features New or Improved in ClickPad II:
* Compared to the original ClickPad, ClickPad II is more responsive
during heavy trackpad usage and "dozes" when you stop using the trackpad to
reduce CPU & power usage (and so allowing your PowerBook to sleep).
* You can now "lock" the trackpad button down, allowing drags and menu
selections without using the (physical) trackpad button. Way cool.
* ClickPad II provides (optional) audio feedback.
Subject: [*] CW Pascal TCL Port 1.0
This is a partially complete (enough to fully run my program, and probably
many others) conversion of Pascal TCL to PowerPC. It is not quite fully
tested as I still have to complete the conversion of some parts of my
actual program code.
The conversion of the exception handling is complete and is based on the
Macapp2 code and then modifying the TCL to work with this (eg I use goto's
rather than retryException).
I haven't done the conversion for
- failure of New Object, I simply check for a returned nil handle
- failure of the dispatcher (my logic is that this is a program bug so you
may as well crash in an undignified way rather than displaying an error
message that the user can't understand and probably won't be able to
continue from anyway).
Both these and the methtables could be completed using MacApp2 code.
- any methtableutils, ie CDialog classes won't work
- anything that uses MDEF's (eg tearoff menus or popups)
Additionally I replaced SF calls with StandardFle, and fixed things to
allow compiling under the 68K compiler as well.
These files will update Cyclone II versions 1.0 and 1.0.1 to
version 1.0.2. If you do not already have Cyclone II, you need
to download the complete Cyclone II 1.0.2 package.
The following is a list of the changes in Cyclone II 1.0.2:
- Squashed a bug introduced in version 1.0.1 that caused it
to crash on PowerMacs after it finished loading if After
Dark was installed.
The following is a list of the changes in Cyclone II 1.0.1:
- Worked around an incompatibility with After Dark 3.0.
Screen savers should no longer activate while Cyclone II
is running.
- Added a startup sound.
- Made some minor changes to the registration text.
Enjoy!
Subject: [*] Dan's InterSLIP Scripts 1.4
"Dan's InterSLIP Scripts" is a freeware package containing various
InterSLIP scripts and detailed step-by-step installation instructions.
The "Generic Modem Driver" script fully supports just about any type
of modem. It recognizes the basic extended result codes and will
redial when a busy signal or carrier drop occurs. It is far superior
to InterSLIP's built-in "Hayes Compatible" setting. The instructions
include recommended initialization commands for many modem models.
The "Generic Gateway" script fully supports a number of SL/IP hosts,
including The Internet Adapter (TIA). It will catch carrier drops
that occur during the sign-on process, and it properly obtains and
sets the IP address assigned by the host.
DisCollect is an easy to use Music cataloging system for Filemaker Pro
3. I have left out templates for songs, sound samples and album art
because I feel you and I both have much better things to do. If you
feel like you need those fields then I suggest you either examine your
life closely or make them yourself. You can enter Artists, Titles,
Year of Release, Label, Format, Genre, and even the ID# from the
barcode. There are 2 printing options built in. The one from the
=84Welcome=BE screen prints out a nice 2 column document with fewer
fields. The other option from the =84CD LIST=BE window prints out the list
with all the fields. There is also an extra list layout =84CD List
Short=BE which has fewer fields than the full list of all fields. I have
also included pre-entered labels and formats. I hope you enjoy this
template. It is FreeWare. All I ask is that you drop me an email with
your comments. No problem at all. Enjoy.
Subject: [*] Excalibur 2.2.1
Excalibur is a Macintosh spelling checker for LaTeX documents. You can
optionally turn off LaTeX parsing, so Excalibur is a good plain text
spelling checker too.
Features include:
- Excalibur will offer suggestions for how to correct a word.
- Excalibur can spell check the clipboard. This makes it a good spelling
checker for any text based application such as Alpha, BBEdit, or
Eudora.
- You can teach it about new LaTeX commands and environments that you
define.
- Optionally spell checks text in the typewriter (\tt) font.
- You can create your own dictionaries.
- Works with Textures and OzTeX documents. It should work on any TEXT
file.
- You will need System 6.0.5 or higher to run Excalibur. It will run on
any Macintosh from a Mac Plus on up. (Should I continue to support
System 6? Send me mail if you're using System 6.)
- If you are running System 7 or greater, there is balloon help.
- Excalibur is free.
New features in version 2.2.1:
Added processing for \MakeShortVerb and \DeleteShortVerb.
Added a start-up option that causes Excalibur to start spell checking
whenever it opens the clipboard. When this option is set, closing the
window saves the results back to the clipboard. Holding down the
shift key overrides the new behavior in both cases.
Got rid of the Save To Clipboard menu item. Now the text of the Save
item changes to Save Clipboard when the document is a clipboard.
Allow the nesting of \(...\) pairs.
Better memory management. You don't have to increase the application
size to use a large dictionary.
Subject: [*] gpower 2.1
GPOWER performs high-precision statistical power analyses for the most
common statistical tests in behavioral research, that is, t-tests, F-tests,
and Chi^2-tests.
GPOWER computes
(a) power values for given sample sizes, effect sizes
and alpha levels (post hoc power analyses),
(b) sample sizes for given effect sizes, alpha levels,
and power values (a priori power analyses), and
(c) alpha and beta values for given sample sizes,
effect sizes and beta/alpha ratios (compromise power analyses).
The program may be used to display graphically the relation between any two
of the relevant variables and it offers the opportunity to compute the
effect size measures from basic parameters defining the alternative
hypothesis.
Subject: [*] Help on Wheels 1.3
This generic help server, which springs from the help facility in
the famous Disinfectant program, offers on-line,
context-sensitive help service to all AWOL Utilities programs,
and potentially others to come.
As a user, you see help for several client programs stacked in a
single window, with each program's menu commands and dialog
items keyed to descriptive paragraphs in the help file. You can
tell the help server to follow your actions in the background,
so that you can read about the program while you use it.
Hypertext links connect related sections and trigger
demonstration actions by the client application.
The Help on Wheels developer's kit (now supporting Metrowerks
CodeWarrior as well as the MPW environment, and PowerPC as well
as 68K programs) includes a sample application, and everything a
developer would need to add help service to an application,
control panel, or extension. The client interface is designed
to take the burden of display, printing, saving, and other
common help functions away from the developer. THE DEVELOPER'S
KIT IS A SEPARATE ARCHIVE, NOT PART OF THIS ARCHIVE (except,
historically at umich).
This program is part of the AWOL Utilities 1.3 package,
which includes the following programs: Virtual Desktop 1.9,
Maybe 1.5, Help on Wheels 1.3 (and HoW Developer's Kit 1.3),
PictPocket 1.3, Menu Events 1.3, Menu Grabber 1.3, Trash Bag 1.1.
Subject: [*] I Ching Connexion 2.3; I Ching with a new view
The I Ching Connexion is an ever-changing but always consistently interlocking
graphic representation of the way the 64 hexagrams interrelate.
As such it is the key to widen and deepen the interpretation of the outcome of
a divination.
It features the translation James Legge made (published in 1882, England) of
the Imperial Edition of the I (published in 1715, China). This alone makes the
program useful for anyone interested in the I Ching.
Besides that it adds two radical new views to the ancient Book of Changes:
the Connexion and the Mediator.
It also features an I Ching clock, a presentation of the link between the
I Ching and astrology. And it allows you to calculate your natal hexagram.
The I Ching Connexion requires a Macintosh with System 7.0 or later,
32-bit Color Quickdraw and at least 256 colors or grays.
It's optimised for both PowerPC and 680x0 Macs (FAT application).
There is also an update package, "I Ching Connexion 2.2 update", which updates
I Ching Connexion 2.2 to version 2.3. It doesn't work with versions prior
to 2.2.
There are quite a few nice changes since v2.2:
- All cross-references in the texts are hyperlinked.
- Improved graphics, with a choice of seven colours for the hexagons.
- Allows manual entry of the outcome, so you can throw the coins yourself.
- Date and time for the natal hexagram can now be entered directly
using the keyboard.
- Clicking on the time-box displays the current outcome;
option-clicking gives you the 'Throw the coins' dialogue.
- Option-click on a changing line in the "Hexagram Meaning" window
brings you to the commentaries on that line.
- Allows entering the question first, followed by "Throw & Connect...".
- Alternates colours when a hexagram is both actual and future
(or waning and waxing).
- Prints waning & waxing hexagrams correctly now.
- Minor text corrections and small bug fixes.
- Please note Christiaan has a new e-mail address.
Have fun.
Subject: [*] Knot 3.5 (FAT) abstract 3-D graphics designer
Knot, now Power Macintosh-native, lets you create large 3-D color
animations and stills of beautiful abstract knots. You design the knot's
form, colors, motion, backgrounds and lighting - or design and render
entire animations automatically. It's an endless source of gorgeous
moving backgrounds and photocollage elements for your work.
* Easy to use: knots will design themselves if you want, or you can exert
fine control
* Exports standard QuickTime and TIFF files
* Fast background rendering: still pictures in a few minutes,
animations in a half-hour
* Create red/blue and paired-image 3D stereograms with one click. 3D
movies too!
* Beautiful graphic interface
Knots are 3-D abstract shapes which many people say look "something
like intestines", but MacFormat magazine says "Design fantastic,
beautiful images on your Mac with this easy to use graphics program. With
a wealth of options to stretch your artistic talent, the program produces
its wonderful creations in just minutes."
Version 3.5 now runs native on Power Macintoshes two to three times
faster than before. It gives you high resolution, assorted lighting effects,
3-D, and tons of examples. Multiple colored light sources illuminate
curved, segmented, glowing, buckled, iridescent, wet, and segmented
strands, with animated previews, all in 24-bit poster-size color.
Knot requires a color Macintosh; System 7 or later; QuickTime for
making animations; and at least 6MB memory (8MB recommended). You can use
your creations with any paint program or movie player.
Subject: [*] NewsWatcher 2.12+jp1 patch
This is a patch program to make Japanese-enabling version
of NewsWatcher 2.12, which was originally written by John
Norstad of Northwestern University. This patchwork is free.
This patch works on the program "NewsWatcher 2.12",
and makes it as follows.
* Enables it to read and write the articles or messages
in Japanese Kanji characters.
* Properly Wraps and Unwraps the paragraphs including
Kanji characters. Also fill column width is changable.
* Disables the Latin-1 (ISO8859-1 character set) conversion
on 8-bit characters, which was added to 2.XX versions.
To run the patched NewsWatcher program properly in displaying
Kanji characters, the following conditions are required;
1. Running KanjiTalk 7, a Japanese localized version of
System 7, or equivalent systems such as with Japanese
Language Kit.
2. Being Kanji font, say "Osaka", installed in "Font" folder
of the system.
Subject: [*] Russian KCHR
This is an improvment of the Russian keyboard layout that comes with the
Apple Russian script.
i) The unshifted and shifted keyboard layouts have not been altered -- it
is still compatible with the Apple Russian hardware keyboards.
ii) Key combinations with option and option-shift have been altered so that
all Cyrillic letters in the Apple Cyrillic fonts are accessible from the
keyboard.
iii) The layouts have been made more logical so that lower and upper case
versions of non-Russian Cyrillic letters appear on the same key with option
and option-shift held down respectively, usually the same key as the
closest Russian letter.
The name of the file looks funny, it is 'Russian' written in Russian. Don't
change it. If the Russian script is installed it will be displayed
correctly in the keyboard menu.
Requires: Apple Cyrillic script and fonts (available via ftp from apple).
Subject: [*] Smaller Installer 2.0
Smaller Installer is a toolkit for creating custom installers for your
products. Installer dialogs may be customized to include your own graphics
and text. In addition, you may define checkbox and radio button options
which allow your customers to install subsets of your product files. You may
also extend the installer functions by adding your own custom code resources.
Smaller Installer minimizes the number of disks you must ship. Your product
files are stored in a compressed format using the same technology as our
award-winning Compact Pro data compression utility. The standard installer
application is small, too, adding less than 40K bytes to your disk set.
Smaller Installer handles multiple-disk installations with ease. Users are
prompted to insert disks with familiar Finder-style dialogs. Installers may
be used from a file server by placing the contents of the distribution disks
in a single folder on the server.
Smaller Installer is multi-lingual. You can create installers in English,
French, German, Japanese and Spanish by selecting one of the built-in
language modules.
Smaller Installer is inexpensive. It is licensed with a one-time fee which
authorizes your organization to create a specified number of copies of the
installer application. There are no annual fees.
Copies License Fee
------ -----------
1K $175
10K $300
100K $600
Unlimited $1,000
To build a demo installer, you will need the Smaller Installer toolkit
and a copy of Compact Pro (any version). The toolkit allows you to build
fully functional installers which display a "Demo" splash screen at startup.
This screen is removed when you pay the license fee.
Subject: [*] STAGES 1.0 Demo
STAGES is a software program developed to aid the pathologist/toxicologist
in tracking germ cells through time in the cycle of the seminiferous
pithelium. This program has also been developed to serve as an aid in the
teaching of "cellular associations" found in the seminiferous epithelium of
various species. Experimentally, the program may be used in experiments
that incorporate the basic kinetics of spermatogenesis in various species
of animals. Given a specific cell type in the spermatogenic cycle, STAGES
can predict its position after a specified period, either forward or
backward in time. The use of STAGES can reduce the time required to
determine the fate of damaged germ cells, or to determine the original
target of a toxin for a given effect observed post-treatment.
System Requirements
------------------
o STAGES will need System 7.0 or newer.
o 2 megabytes of memory or more would be nice, but at least 1 megabyte
is needed.
o STAGES will work on any type of monitor, but an 8-bit (256 colors
or greyscale) or greater display is best.
This demo can be included on the CD-ROM version of your archive.
and will not force you to stop what you are doing, but the risk of loss of
access to a computer should be sufficient for most people. TakeABreak is
displays them in the format of a paper tidechart.
Subject: [*] UnderControl 0.3b1
UnderControl is a Personal File Sharing/AppleShare enhancement program that
allows the computer owner to send message to all connected users, set the
file sharing CPU limit, and set a greeting message. There is an option to
send message to individual users, but it does not work as well as it should,
yet.
This program will expire August 1, 1996.
Subject: [*] URL Grabber v1.1 for FileMaker Pro 3.0
Keywords: URL, Web, Netscape, HTML
REQUIREMENTS:
AppleScript 1.1, FileMaker Pro 3.0, Netscape 1.1 or greater
ABOUT:
Attached is a quick, albeit attractive, FM file for collecting URLs from
the web using Netscape and FileMaker 3.0.
There is limited help and it is the sort of "figure it out as you go"
type of program. I think you will find it quite useful for collecting
and storing URL addresses. It will do all of these things and more.
1. Collect URL addresses and their page titles
2. Jump to URL addresses from the FM database
(thank you Joel & Claris)
3. Prompt for keywords associated to the
web site.
NEW IN VERSION 1.1
1. A Note Pad screen with a pretty handy little time stamp.
Useful for keeping...what else, notes!
2. A field that now tracks the last time that you connected
to a web site from URL Grabber
3. A field that tracks the orginal date of your
first time you grabbed the site
4. A search engines database that allows you to search the
major web search engines from within URL Grabber.
Pretty Cool!
5. A preferences section to set preferences.
6. A super list area where you can see more
of a hit list style of listing.
7. Small help section
8. Trash can delete button
Distribution of this file via CD-ROM, Disks or other
mediums is allowed as long as the full archive is
distributed as is shipped.
