Subject: [*] BaBa 1.0.0

BaBa is a toy implementation of Scheme. It is very incomplete, but it does
have a stop-n-copy garbage collector and a byte-code compiler (all
expressions are compiled before execution). It is fully tail recursive (or
at least it's supposed to be).

The latest version of BaBa can also be obtained from:

Subject: [*] Biblioteca v.1.0

This is the English version of Biblioteca. Despite its bizarre, unusual
interface, Biblioteca is a powerful easy-to-use database which provides
every feature to help you manage your library. Click on the "?" button to
toggle balloons help on and move the mouse onto anything you want to get
info about.

System requirements:
-Any colour Mac o PowerMac (thousands of colours recommended), although a 4
grey-scaled monitor should do.
-System 7.x.
-At least 2 Mg of free RAM (2.5 Mg recommended).

Biblioteca is a stand-alone application created with HyperCard 2.2 on a
LCIII, and tested on a Performa 6300.

had to include some point and clicks. This has been on aol for awhile and

Subject: [*] Cheat II 3.0

Cheat II is an application that lets gamers cheat ruthlessly in their
games. Instead of a small collection of hacks or patches, Cheat II is a
flexible app that enables users to cheat in virtually any game, in many
different ways. Cheat's modular structure lets you design and save your
own cheats, which can then be exported or imported, share with your friends
or on the web page! You don't need to be a hacker to use Cheat, its
easy-to-use interface makes it easy for everyone! Version 3 has all sorts
of new features, including hot keys and improved shortcuts. Cheat II is
ostensibly $5 shareware.

Subject: [*] Chris' QPict Fix 1.0

This patch fixes a minor bug in QPict.

For the technically inclined, QPict 1.0 calls DisposeHandle()
on a resource handle when creating previews (once per newly
created preview).

Generally the only people affected by this bug are those
running the DisposeResource debugging extension, but it
could possibly cause other problems, and is certainly a
very bad thing for it to be doing.

I am the "author" of the patch; I am not the author of QPict.

Subject: [*] Control Strip Menu 2.3.1D [ German ]

Hello everyone,
This is version 2.3.1D of Control Strip Menu, the first release of an
German version.

THE SOUND BITE:
Working with your files, folders, or applications has never been easier.
It's now just a click or drag away!

THE ELEVATOR STATEMENT:
Control Strip Menu is a control strip module that puts a hierarchical
menu of your favorite files and folders on your control strip. This lets
you access files, folders and applications with just a click or drag! You
can drag items to copy, move, or make aliases to them. Control Strip Menu
works the way you want it to because it can be customised in a multitude
of ways.

REQUIREMENTS:
This module works on desktop Macs, portable Macs, and PowerMacs. System
7.0 or later is required. Macintosh Drag and Drop (which is built into
System 7.5 or later) is highly recommended.

ABOUT THIS VERSION:
This is a minor new version. It has these bug fixes and improvements
since the last version, v2.3:

* fixed a bug stopping you from clicking icons after you change
the Items Folder
* now processes clicks even if the icon display needs updating
(it's first updated, and the click then processed)
* improved (again) so that it displays big menus properly
(instead of showing "A")
* opening any disk alias (including network disks) was broken
in 2.3. Fixed
* entirely in German

Please see the included Read Me files for all the details.
Control Strip Menu is shareware.

Enjoy,
Vincent.

Subject: [*] Disk Charmer 3.0; disk utility

You don't have to wait for Copland to initialize disks in
background...

Disk Charmer is a neat utility that lets you conveniently erase
disks, and handle disk images in DiskCopy and DiskDup+ format.
Disk Charmer lets you create larger disks: you gain 9K on 800K disks,
19K on HD disks, 1.5Mb on a Zip disk.

At least System 7 is required.
Help Balloons are everywhere.
Disk Charmer has a nice, modeless interface.
It fully supports drag&drop.
It supports the handy "Undo" feature we all know and love.

New since version 2.4.5:

Major new features (for the complete list, see the readme doc):
- Erases any disk (not just floppies).
- Support for DiskDup+ and DiskCopy disk images.
- Checks for low-level errors during read/write, and warns the user
appropriately.

Major bugs fixed (for the complete list, see the readme doc):
- Fixed the crash that used to occur on some PowerMacs (and maybe other
Macs, too) when the Can switch among applications=8A setting was
active.
- The Low Density popup menu didn't drop down if you clicked on its
rightmost part, in spite of the fact that it had a drop-down symbol.
- Fixed the disk renaming bug.

Subject: [*] Dos2Mac 2.1

Hello,

The following stuffit binhexed file contains the French and English
version 2.1 of Dos2Mac (replacing the version 1.2 posted in
December). Dos2Mac is a fast nativ utility which convert
automaticelly text files from DOS to Mac format and vice versa. The
conversion code has been totally rewritten and Dos2Mac is now much
safer to use, and requires much less memory than before. It includes
now a preference file, can allow you to replace the tab by spaces
(and vice versa). Allows you to change the icons of your files after
conversion, etc... .

This is still a postcardWare, so feel free to put it everywhere !

Enjoy it,

Subject: [*] Maybe 1.5

This application picks up where Finder left off in its
implementation of aliases. Maybe converts a Finder alias file
to give it an additional effect.

Converted aliases do more than just point to the original item.
They can:
- play a sound
- open or print every item in the target folder
- open some other item (document, application, folder, or
whatever) first
- send an Apple event to another program
- make a startup item optional, by questioning the user, or
checking the state of a key

Maybe doesn't solve your problems directly, but it gives you the
power to do a lot of things you've been wanting to do.

This program is part of the AWOL Utilities 1.3 package,
which includes the following programs: Virtual Desktop 1.9,
Maybe 1.5, Help on Wheels 1.3 (and HoW Developer's Kit 1.3),

Subject: [*] Menu Events 1.3

This system extension bridges the gap between scripting
applications and the vast number of non-scriptable applications.
It makes most applications controllable through their menu
commands, using program linking (Apple events).

Any script, or any program equipped to send Menu events, can
query and execute the menu commands of any compatible
application on any Macintosh on the network.

An AppleScript scripting addition ('osax') and sample script
show you how to control an application through its menus. You
can record Menu event commands directly into a script editor by
pressing the Caps Lock key while selecting items from menus.

Version 1.3 lets you specify menus and menu items by their
string names, numeric IDs, or both, and improves compatibility
with target applications.

which includes the following programs: Virtual Desktop 1.9,

Subject: [*] Menu Grabber 1.3

A fascinating illustration of the power of Menu Events, Menu
Grabber lets you pick an application from any Macintosh on the
network, and presents an identical copy of its menu bar on your
screen (but in bright red and white-on-black, just so you
realize what you might be getting into). While grabbing an
application, you can pull down a menu or use a keyboard
equivalent to simulate the same action on the target
application.

This application can be useful in network management, and to
people like me who sometimes forget to close a needed document
before leaving the office.

Version 1.3 adds a handy Refresh button, and makes it easier to
deal with applications whose menus are sensitive to modifier
keys.

What is it?
Mortal Pongbat is Pong, taken to a whole new level of vicious,
friend-losing fun.

It runs in 256 colors (automatically changed for your convenience) on
any 68020 (or better) Mac running system 7.1 or later, with 1MB of free
RAM (682K, actually).
There should be two copies available on this archive, the 68k version
for 68000-based Macs and a PPC version for PowerPC Macs.

Changes:
1.3.3:
Added better sound control.
Added better collision checking.
Fixed bug that allowed un-pause to work even if a game wasn't paused.

1.3.2:
Added mouse control option.
Made intro skippable (click mouse to skip it).
Added new graphics modes for faster play on both old and new machines.

The little gross interface quirks that were reported to me have been sacked.

Subject: [*] MouseTracker 1.0

MouseTracker 1.0 is a Freeware utility program that records
the coordinates of the user's mouse clicks to a text file. Even when
another application or process is in the foreground, all mouse clicks
are recorded and the user can activate and deactivate MouseTracker at
whim.

MouseTracker 1.0 was originally designed to enable
measurements in certain mechanical physics experiments. The
experimenter videotapes the experiment, loads the video sequence onto
a Macintosh, and displays it on the screen. The experimenter then
activates MouseRecorder and clicks on each point of interest in the
experimental system. These click-measurements are made on every frame
in the sequence. Thus the experimenter can measure the linear and
rotational positions, velocities and accelerations of rotating disks,
tumbling projectiles, complex pendulums, and other complicated
mechanical systems.

Subject: [*] PictPocket 1.3

Here's a different kind of screen capture utility, great for
people who need to build a lot of window pictures into their
documents, but don't want to waste a lot of storage. Most of
the pictures in AWOL Utilities help files were captured using
PictPocket.

PictPocket "picks the pocket" of applications as they draw their
windows, not after they have been drawn. This difference allows
it to place in the Clipboard a 'PICT' which represents the
actual elements drawn, rather than a bitmap (raster) image.
(You choose whether or not to include the window frame.) Not
only is a PictPocket 'PICT' smaller than a bitmap 'PICT', and
not proportional in size to the depth of color, but you retain
the ability to edit the picture later, using an application such
as Microsoft Word or PowerPoint. Change text, colors, position
of elements, whatever! If you need a blow-up of the picture,
just change the Page Setup scaling factor, and it will still
print perfectly, with no bitmap "jaggies."

Version 1.3 makes PictPocket much easier to use. Just press the
Caps Lock and Shift keys, find the window you want to capture,
click on it, and release the keys when the window starts to
blink.

This program is part of the AWOL Utilities 1.3 package,
which includes the following programs: Virtual Desktop 1.9,
Maybe 1.5, Help on Wheels 1.3 (and HoW Developer's Kit 1.3),

With the complemental tool "SelfReplace Maker", your conversion will be more
easily and efficiently.

Features:
- Small application size, and high conversion speed.
- Easy to create new filter file.
- supports all character set, the control characters (0-31) in particular,
- supports hexadecimal string in filter,
- supports Unix regular expression(pattern) for searching string in filter,

Subject: [*] PrintUseMonitor 3.2

PrintUseMonitor monitors the pages printed on Quickdraw printers, including
all the StyleWriter series and LaserWriter 300 printer, and displays
a warning dialog when the print cartridge is about to run out.

PrintUseMonitor displays a progress bar indicating the Print Cartridge
wear and has many other features too.

If you refill ink cartridges then this application is useful for
determining when to do this, or if you always replace your ink cartridge,
this application can help you to determine when to order a new cartridge.

This version adds support for the Japanese language and the Color SW2200

System 7 to run.

Please include this on CD collections if you wish.

Subject: [*] RealView 2.1

RealView 2.1 =A9 Eyal Redler 1996.

General Description
RealView is a File Viewer.
RealView Can open any kind and size of file and Display the contents of
its Data Fork in two modes, TEXT or HEXADECIMAL, using any font and font
size, RealView can save the Data Fork contents or part of it in a separate
file. in addition to these features RealView can perform simple conversion
of text files.

Possible uses for RealView
* Viewing regular Textfiles
RealView opens files much faster then "Teach Text" (and it's lookalikes)
and Does not have the 32k Limit.
* Viewing 'non regular' Textfiles
RealView can Open files that came from a PC or UNIX and convert them (if
needed) to a macintosh format. if, for example, you received a UNIX file
and its lines didn't break, you could select "Select All" from the "Edit"
menu and then select "UNIX -> MAC" from the "Convert" menu and the text
will be converted at the spot and the lines will break.
* Viewing the content of non Textfiles
RealView doesn't care if the file is Black, red or blue it simply opens the
file and lets you see its contents.
* Viewing 'Invisible' files
The 'Open File' Dialog box does not filter files (like most other
programmes do) and that means you can open any file that exists on the disk
including files that are invisible from the finder.

Have you ever seen a sound? Why don't you try it on your Mac? If your
Mac has microphone or CD-input or something like that, You can see it with
SoundVision. SoundVision is probably the fastest sound analyzer for Mac.
SoundVision shows waveform and spectrum of sound at REAL TIME on most of
Macs. You don't need fast Macs like AV series to do real time analysis,
only you need is a Mac IIsi (normal one, 68030 20MHz). Have a try. It's
fun!

SoundVision requires a Mac with 68030, 68LC040, 68040 or PowerPC for the
CPU. A monitor set to 256-color mode is also required, because the
fast-drawing routine of SoundVision only works on this mode of monitor.
SoundVision is a FREEWARE. Please feel free to send me any questions,

DELTA 41 fixes Tangent bug, which makes noise spectrum, depending on
your machine.

NOTE : SoundVision is reported to have a trouble with PPC 604.

Subject: [*] Stefan's CD Menu Touchup 1.1

Hi there!

Stefan's CD Menu Touchup is a package designed to liven up the interface of
the shareware control panel, CD Menu. Installing the touchup will give you
great looking, smooth to the touch, 3D buttons, a color volume icon instead
of one in black and white, and lastly, the actual CD Menu icon is changed to
a "cascading rainbow" design. I think it's quite attractive.

The touchup is applied by using a self-running patching application. The
patcher will do all the work, so you won't need to know a thing about the
world of ResEdit. However, I've included a ResEdit resource file that
contain all the modifications in it, so you can use Stefan's CD Menu Touchup
as an excuse to whip out your copy of ResEdit and practice some resource
hacking.

The patching application will only be able to patch version 1.3.2 of CD Menu,
but that should be a problem for you folks, since the latest version of CD
Menu is available on America Online, eWorld, the InfoMac archive, etc.

Stefan's CD Menu Touchup is $5 shareware. If you don't have $5 (or if you
would rather not send money), then just send me something like music CD or
CD-ROM, or a disk with something you've worked on. At the very least, you
can send me an postcard from your hometown.

If you want to give Stefan's CD Menu Touchup to a friend or upload it to a
BBS, then please include the Read Me with it. If you are authoring a book or
CD-ROM and would like to include Stefan's CD Menu Touchup on it, please let
me know in advance and we can work something out.

When and if CD Menu is released past version 1.3.2, then this patch will
become useless (since the Touchup only works on v1.3.2). Stefan's CD Menu
Touchup can be taken off Info-Mac at that time, but I'd appreciate it if
someone lets me know about it so I can put out a new release.

Subject: [*] Stefan's Find Alternative 1.2

Stefan's Find Alternative is a free package designed to allow users to choose
which utility they use in place of System 7.5's Find File.

Stefan's Find Alternative now has support for the shareware utility,
UltraFind. Stefan's Find Alternative now supports System 7.5's Find File,
Find Pro III, File Buddy, Norton's FastFind, and UltraFind.

If there is another program you'd like me to add support to, just let me
know, and I'll release another version with added support.

What makes this package stand apart from other utilities that offer the same
thing is that Stefan's Find Alternative is free, and since the user does the
installation, it will work regardless what version of the System Software
(Finder and the Find File Extension) you have.

Here's a run-down of what Stefan's Find Alternative offers:

* Depending which utility you use, you're given complete instructions how to
install the right "version" for you, so the appropriate application launches
when you type a Command + F or use the "Find..." command in the Finder.

* The Finder's "Find..." command is replaced with one appropriate to what
utility the user prefers to use. For example, File Buddy users will have a
"File Buddy..." command, and Find Pro III users will have a "Find Pro III..."
command.

Stefan's Find Alternative is hug-ware. Give someone you love a hug.

If you want to give Stefan's Finder Menus to a friend or upload it to a BBS,
then please include this Read Me with it. If you are authoring a book or

know in advance and we can work something out. My email address is:

Subject: [*] Stefan's NamedFolder Touchup

Stefan's NamedFolder Touchup is a little package I put together to draw some
attention to a wonderful utility, NamedFolder7. NamedFolder7 is a system
extension that, when installed, brings up a dialog box every time you create
a new folder in the Finder. It asks you to type in the name, rather than
letting the Finder automatically name it 'untitled folder'. Normally, the
new folder appears at the bottom of a window (if you have your windows viewed
by "Name"), requiring you to scroll all the way down to rename it. This is
very annoying! That's why I find NamedFolder7 so handy.

NamedFolder7 was written in 1994 by David Sumner. You can get it here on the
Info-Mac archive. I believe it's in the "/info-mac/gui/" directory.

Now, back Stefan's NamedFolder7 Touchup. The Touchup redesigns the interface
of the dialog that NamedFolder7 brings up. It asks you politely to name the
folder, and you have the option to cancel if you'd like. Also, I've added
some Balloon Help support.

Give NamedFolder7 a try! I find it saving me time every time I use my
computer.

Subject: [*] Trash Bag 1.1

Add this absurdly simple application to your Startup Items

destination folder for encoded Internet downloads, Web browser
cache files, or anything you doubt you'll need tomorrow, and
Trash Bag will put them in the Trash automatically.

Unlike the "real" Trash, your Trash Bag folder lets you open
what's inside it, and you can access it through standard file
dialogs. It's also great for making a temporary backup copy of
a document before editing - just Option-drag it to the bag.
Tomorrow, when you no longer need it, it'll be in the Trash.

on all types of Macs and all types of monitors. For 160K of
memory, you can have a virtual desktop as big as you like, in
full color. Excellent for PowerBooks and other Macs with the
ability to run many programs at once, but nowhere to put the
windows.

To get around, you have several options:
- use the scroll bars on the sides of the screen
- click a "door," or use the Door menu or Control Strip, to go
to a preset location (with the option to launch an application
or document)
- see the entire virtual desktop in miniature, and rearrange
your windows and icons
- press a key combination to scroll in any direction
- push a reference point on the virtual desktop from A to B
using the mouse
- shove the mouse against the edge of the screen to scroll in
any direction

Version 1.9 adds support for multi-scan monitors and WindowShade,
improves performance, and fixes a number of bugs. With its many
helpful features and options for customization, Virtual Desktop
is one exciting piece of freeware!

This program is part of the AWOL Utilities 1.3 package,
which includes the following programs: Virtual Desktop 1.9,
Maybe 1.5, Help on Wheels 1.3 (and HoW Developer's Kit 1.3),
PictPocket 1.3, Menu Events 1.3, Menu Grabber 1.3, Trash Bag 1.1.

Subject: [*] Warcraft 1.0 Color Patch

An annoying feature of System 7.5.2 for PowerBooks 190 and 5300 is that all
mono-colored cursors become black. In Warcraft this is particularily
annoying because what you get is a black cursor on a black background. What
this patch does is change them slightly so that they get to be drawn in
color.

Enjoy, this is freeware !

Subject: [*] Yorick 1.2, PowerMac version

Introduction to Yorick 1.2
-------------------------
Yorick is a tool for analyzing numerical data that is available under
unix as well as on the Macintosh. It has an interpreter that uses
a C-like language and can operate on entire arrays without
any need for do loops over the array indices. Yorick has a file I/O
package with the ability to conveniently read text files with
columns of numbers. The file I/O package reads a wide variety of binary
and text files and can easily be trained to read more, if the formatting
rules for the file are known. Yorick has a 2D graphics package that
includes polylines, contour plots, cell arrays, and filled mesh
plots. The NEW 3D graphics package provides surface plots, slicing
planes, and iso-surfaces.

Gist is a program that displays frames in binary CGM files written by
yorick and other applications (e.g. ATC GKS, IDL). gist is
particularly useful for making PICT files from a CGM file written by
a Unix version of yorick.

There is a mailing list with announcements about yorick, as well as questions
and answers to questions about using yorick. You can subscribe to the

problems - should still go to [email protected], or to [email protected]
if they are Mac specific.)
