Subject: [*] Another Fine Mess v1.6
Another Fine Mess is an adventure game for Mac OS. The tangled worlds of
Ray's Maze await you. Seek your fortune or die trying! Visit eerie moors,
a desolate battlefield, and an ancient castle. Battle bureaucrats, sand
pirates, and other horrific monsters. Challenging puzzles and fantastic
treasures abound. This is the second game in the Ray's Maze series. The
game features excellent graphics with multiple story lines. The game was
created with the World Builder adventure game creation system. The author
asks a $10 shareware fee. For more information, email [email protected].
The game runs on all Macs, but sound doesn't work on XL, AV, or PPC
models. Version 1.6 adds compatibility with newer Macs and fixes minor
bugs.

the viewing range by manually entering in new values or by using one of the
zooms. All of it's available functions are listed in a handy menu for your
convienience. You can graph up to 5 functions at a time each one in a
different color and trace through each of them.

Subject: [*] depth_lib 1.0
This is library of routines that let you get the depth of a monitor and
set the depth of a monitor. Sometimes when writing games you want to
force the monitor to 256 colors or you want to make sure you have at
least 16 colors. This library has routines to do just that.
All of these routines come almost directly from Kenneth Worley's "Monitor
Tricks in C++ 1.51". I wanted a C version instead, but if you use C++
you will probably want to pick up Ken's package. Monitor Tricks also has
some other neat features as well. It's available on AOL or you can
contact Kenneth directly at: AOL: KNEWorley, Internet: [email protected].
A Pascal version would be nice. If there is an industrious Pascal soul
out there that would like to convert these routines, let me know. It
shouldn't be too difficult. I'll add it to the next release and give due
credit.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, DOCTOR LECTER.
Enjoy a rousing conversation with your Mac. Eliza will play the part of a
psychologist, conducting an open-ended clinical interview. As the patient,
you can get Eliza's opinions and advice on a wide range of subjects. (Eliza
has a large vocabulary and the ability to formulate a virtually unlimited
number of responses.)
...and if you have Apple's Speech Manager (PlainTalk), you can actually watch

Speech Manager's capabilities!
Version 5 has a greatly improved vocabulary and "head animation" synchronized

Air Traffic Control software for
Microsoft Flight Simulator Macintosh version 4.0.
Fly your favorite air routes under the direction of Air Traffic
Control (ATC.) FS-ATC 3.1 incorporates artificial intelligence to
guide your flight from taxi to departure, through approach and
landing. Great for flight simulator fans. Using Apple's Speech
Manager, FS-ATC's controllers will literately speak to you.
FS-ATC gives new life to the old, venerable Macintosh version
Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0. This will cure your PC envy with
Flight Simulator 5.1
FS-ATC is an air traffic controller software that operates with
Microsoft Flight Simulator. It runs on the background and it uses
some undocumented apple events to find out position, direction,
altitude and speed of aircraft. Using this information FS-ATC sends
messages to the pilot using Speech Manager or displays them as text.
FS-ATC 3.0 contains internal databases for VORs, center locations,
and a selection of airports. This version introduces fully automatic
air traffic control from gate of pilot chosen departure airport to the
gate of destination airport.
Controller files used in earlier versions of FS-ATC are still supported.
FS-ATC 3.1 is released as shareware (10 US$). The registered users
will receive documentation for creating controller files of their own.

Subject: [*] Glossary Package
Keywords: Multiple Choice, Quiz, online, automatic, Platypus, Hypercard,
Glossary, template
This glossary package includes:
a color glossary template
a black and white glossary template
a very small example glossary (in color)
a quiz machine that ties into the glossary files to produce a quiz.
documentation for all of the above
Terminology Quiz and the glossary templates are freeware, but still =A91994,
1995 by Platypus Software i.e. NOT in the public domain. Terminology Quiz
version 2.0 requires a Platypus Glossary with the version 2.0 features.
(The templates and small example distributed with this glossary are all
compatible.) The Platypus Music Glossary (distributed separately) is
full-fledged example. It is shareware (only $2.50). You can create as many
glossaries as you wish, but if you intend to distribute them, you need to
make arrangements with Platypus.
The quiz creates multiple choice questions using any Platypus glossary file
as a database. It keeps track of scores. "Bugs" in this program are
probably formatting errors in the data. I think I have got most of them in
the templates, but there are no guarantees. The editor tries to prevent
most formatting errors that you might make, but as this is freeware, the
integrity of the data is up to you. Please note: I cannot provide
technical support for this program, as it is FREEWARE.
I have delayed releasing it for a long time, due to some "bug reports," but
I could not replicate the alleged bugs. I do appreciate bug reports, and
will acknowledge all such, but please if you send me one, be extremely
specific.
This package may be distributed by anyone as long as they do not delete any
files from the original package.
New in Version 2.0: Version 2.0 generates a certain number of questions
(you choose) and records the results. Version 2.0 makes use of the
classification of terms (new in Version 2.0 of the Gloss), and you may
choose to have your quiz only select from certain classifications. In
addition, version 2.0 will generate and print a quiz and answer key for
paper quiz use, though we really recommend that students take the quiz on
line for best results.

This is a ResEdit file containing a single resource, for the menus of
Netscape 2. This one is from my alteration of beta 6, that are just
keyboard shortcuts. Save as Apple-S instead of being blank..things like
that.
Installation is simple. Open both in ResEdit, copy the MENU resource from
my file, paste into netscape, when it asks you if you want to replace ones
with the same IDs, click on the Yes button. Save, and Quit.

Subject: [*] NetSnagger-11b3; Internet URL and digest file utility
NetSnagger is a free Internet application that works with Internet Config
to simplify two internet related tasks:
1. Retrieving files from archive digests (like the Info-Mac
digest published in the comp.sys.mac.digest newsgroup).
These documents are called "Draggers".
2. Creating double clickable desktop URLs which will utilize
Internet Config to launch the requested URL.
NetSnagger has been tested with System 7.5. I should, in theory, also work
with System 7.1 or later with the Drag Manager Extension. It requires
Internet Config 1.1, and works best with the Anarchie ftp program by Peter
Lewis.
Features:
* InternetConfig support
* Drag Manager Support
* Automatic URL Concatenation
* Double Clickable desktop URLs
* Single drop URL saving
* No extensions or trap patching
The 1.1b3 release includes the following changes since 1.0b4:
1. Made selection deactivation work properly.
2. Made sure cursor is reset when NetSnagger is brought
to front.
3. Fixed bug in opening plain URLs.
4. Made URL window wider.
5. Added default Launch button, mapped return and enter to it.
6. Added preferences and preferences ui.
7. Made auto save so that it saves launchers.
8. Made option for launchers to be saved as plain URL text.
9. Added font and size settings.
10.Fixed bug in which opened files did not come up
with base URL field in edit.
11.Added ability to read files containing a single url only.
12.Added auto saving of dragged URL files to the desktop
when drag is started or ended with shift key down.
When name already exists save dialog is brought forward.
13.Added auto bringing up the save dialog when command key

Subject: [*] ScriptServer 1.0
Here is the long awaited (ha!) ScriptServer 1.0. ScriptServer is a
scriptable OSA compiler. It is most useful for building applications and
Apple Guide files which include AppleScript scripts. With ScriptServer you
can write a script which will compile all of your scripts when you build
the rest of your program or guide. That's very handy. It's also easy to
use from Hypercard 2.2 or better. Sample scripts for compiling from MPW
and BBEdit are included.
ScriptServer is free for non-business use. Using ScriptServer for building
commercial products requires payment of a $20 shareware fee.
You can find this and my other useful software on my web page:

Enjoy.

Subject: [*] Stack-Peeker-22
Keywords: Scripts Stacks HyperCard Player Peek View Modify
Shareware $5
This fast, feature-laden, but easy to use HyperCard script viewing utility
now has MORE POWER. You can now view and modify the CONTENTS of locked
and/or hidden fields.
Stack Peeker 2.2 allows you to view and MODIFY the "stack" script of a
target stack, AND do the same to the scripts of ALL cards, backgrounds,
buttons and fields anywhere in a target stack, even in stacks which has
been set up to prevent access to the scripts. In this upgrade, you get the
power to modify the contents of every field on every card in a stack
regardless of whether the field is locked, hidden, or both.
Using Stack Peeker, you can create a text file containing the scripts of
every object in a stack. This text file can be opened and printed using any
of the popular word processing or "works" programs. Stack Peeker also
includes the ability to create a searchable library of individual scripts.
All of the above functions can by performed while running Stack Peeker with
the HyperCard PLAYER, even though the Player does not support scripting!
So now, Player owners can view and experiment with the scripts which make
HyperCard stacks work.
Stack Peeker may now be conveniently registered through the Kagi Shareware
service using their REGISTER program which is included with Stack Peeker.
Registration may be made by credit card via E-mail or fax (with
automatically encrypted credit card information for E-mail users), or by
credit card, cash or check (in U.S. dollars) via snail mail.

Subject: [*] US city/state lesson idea description
One of my big interests is in finding ways to help people improve their
knowledge of geography. In my experiences teaching in the classroom, I've
encountered many students who do not have a thorough knowledge of city/state
pairing.
By the time a student is in 5th or 6th grade, if you name any major American
city, they ought to be able to name the state in which that city can be
found. It can be embarrassing to a school (and embarrassing personally to a
student) if an occasion arises when a student does not know that Chicago is
located in Illinois or that Miami is located in Florida or that Dallas is
located in Texas.
So I spent some time yesterday with an atlas typing in several dozen
city/state pairs into a ClarisWorks word processing document. Since I'm a big
fan of the ClarisWorks slide show, I layed out the size and placement of the
text so that when using the ClarisWorks slide show the city state pair shows
up in a large font, centered, on a separate screen. (Mouse clicks move you
between ClarisWorks slide show screens.)
This download gives further info about this lesson idea and includes a copy
of the ClarisWorks word processing file I started work on. (For those
educators or schools that do not have access to ClarisWorks, I've included a
plain text file of the cities and states I typed up.)
Hope this lesson idea proves useful to others. The more that teachers share
ideas, the more everyone stands to benefit.
Cheers,
- Phil Shapiro
