No FireWire on new MacBooks?

Post by Turboladdade » October 15th, 2008, 10:23 am

Does it concern anyone else that the new MacBook have no FireWire ports, and the new MacBook Pro has merely a single FW800 port? It is a shame to see FW slowly retired in favor of (slower) USB 2.0.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

I saw that "problem" coming up, when I realized the boost of usb-speed of type 2.0 ... that means YEARS ago.

Question: how many custumers see a DIFFERENCE ?
How many of them actually have a benefit of really fast ports ... dayly? Once a week ? Once a month ? -> Is mp3-player-feeding or cam-download all the "common", - all they do ?

The industries KEEP track - and sometimes they even rule the way "VIP-niches" have to handle their port-using-future ... just because the market dicts the next-generation-hardware. Seen from a studio-equipped musician:

- I have to learn what MADI means/is
- I cannot buy 3,5" DD-floppys around the corner, uh- need them !
- ever heard of a NT-recording system, sony-stuff ? = see above
- Betamax ? hahaha
- SCSI is dieing away - I u s e it, god help me in the future ...
- ever looked for a 2,5"-scsi-HD for notebooks ? ha-ha-ha-hah-haaahh...
- possibly, soon there will be no replacements for a yesterday-standard-2,5"-IDE, uh-, cough, ANCIENT hardware *g*
- Iridium-Phone ... who owned one ? What did he pay ??
- my analog tv is respondig ... zero

As time goes by ...
everything is build for the trashcan or for being shown in a museum;
I do NOT like the SPEED of arising OUT-stamps, happening faster,faster,faster..
They are:
Leaving me alone in a digital storage- & format-babylon.
And me&you, we have to obey.
And ONE DAY, you will LOVE your Big Brother,
you may ask your yourself how it was thinkable hearing yourself asking
SUCH A SILLY QUESTION .... b o o m !

(! You ARE informed !)

yours,

Well, in response (to what I am unsure) I'll say that I have many FireWire devices, probably more than the average customer. It is true that high-end technologies such as FireWire typically do not attract many users and fade away over time. FireWire has been around since 1997, though, and isn't merely a niche - it is heavily used in professional studios and workplaces. I don't think it's wise for Apple to diminish FireWire. I recall they tried that with the first MacBook Pros and, after public outcry, corrected the problem with the first revision.

While there are many examples of great or ubiquitous technologies being replace in the past, few cases are directly analogous to FireWire, which is both widely adopted and superior to it's main competitor.
