Subject: .mix files

Having once posted an inquiry about how to open .mix files on the
Mac, I keep getting inquiries about the answer to my own question, so
I better post the answer:

They belong to Microsoft's "Picture-It," a Windows-Only program for
editing photographs. Although it does not exist for the Mac (and I
don't have a PC), I was able to run it with tolerable speed on my G3
under "Virtual-PC" with Windows 95.

Subject: [*] TableText 1.0.2 - Table to text and back

TableText is a program for the Mac OS which allows tabular information to
be represented, manipulated and scanned as plain text. With it, you can
convert spreadsheets and tables to ASCII text with ease.

TableText can be used for email messages, source code comments and
cross-platform documentation. It also allows text to be converted back
into tabular form, for importing into a spreadsheet, word processor or
database.

Version 1.0.2 adds support for Microsoft Entourage. TableText continues
to also work directly with Eudora, Emailer, Outlook Express, Mailsmith or
PowerMail.

Subject: [Q] Software for Disk defragmentation

Hi, I'm having trouble finding some software to defragment the MacOS hard
drive. I've seen Symantec produce a package called "Norton Utilities" that
has this disk "optimizer" or defragmenter. And as far as I can tell, they
are the only manufacturer for disk defragmentation utilities?

Who, if anyone, also produces disk defragmenters? I know there *were*
others, but that was OS 7.x days. :) I'm using OS9.0.4, and want to
defragment. Suggestions please.

Thanks in advance,

--Tim J.

the "STF toolbox". Help???

Thanks

Subject: Modem connect speed!

Setup... MacSurfer 56k; OS 8.6; 64mb installed RAM.

Initially I was using Open Transport/ PPP (OT/ PPP) with Apple Remote
Access (ARA) and getting varying connection speeds of >45k. Since
installing FreePPP and using the 'generic modem' setting -as opposed to the
recommended script for the MacSurfer- I CONSISTENTLY connect at 57,500.

Is it possible, nae even necessary, to get a 'generic' connect script that
will work with OT/ PPP?

Thanks.

Lobo.

Subject: PCI, AGP and Gigabit Ethernet G4s

G4 owners have mentioned that their machines were either PCI or AGP.
There is a third model, the G4 Gigabit Ethernet, which can be
identified by the ADC connector in the top PCI slot, Slot-A (AGP).
For info see "Power Mac G4: How to Differentiate Between Models" at:
