Subject: [*] Cameraid 1.1.4

Cameraid 1.1.4 is the latest update to the all in one digital photography
utility program for MacOS. The update is free to all registered users.

New in 1.1.4

This version works around certain problems that MacOS 9
caused with many USB to serial adapters.

There are no code changes from version 1.1.4b2, so if you
have 1.1.4b2, there's no need to update (there have been
minor changes to the manual).

Availability & Information

Cameraid 1.1.4 requires a Macintosh with a 68020 or better
processor, QuickTime, at least MacOS System 7 and 2MB of
available RAM.

Cameraid 1.1.4 is available on the web from
http://www.cameraid.com and will soon also be available for
download from most Macintosh shareware download sites.

The unregistered shareware version is fully functional, but
includes built-in delays and registration reminders in some
operations. The $15 registration fee (payable through Kagi)
will eliminate the delays and make working with Cameraid
faster and smoother.

The update is free of charge to registers users of previous
versions of Cameraid.

Subject: [*] Catalog Search FM 3.4, FM Pro 4-5 DB to catalog disks and folders

This FileMaker 4 (easily converted to FileMaker 5) database provides
drag and drop indexing of disks and folders. It gathers information
about each file, such as path, name, size, dates, type, creator etc.,
during indexing. Plus it has the speed and power of a relational db.
Duplicate files can be determined almost instantly based on three
separate criteria.

The database is freeware, and has no locked layouts or password
protection. Modify it as you see fit. Needs Jon's Commands free
OSAX - see read me.

Version 3.4 adds more user options when searching with Sherlock;
fixes a bug in 3.3 that left the user with a blank record if indexing
was cancelled.

Versions compatible with the date settings of French and Flemish OSs
is available by email request.

Loan Calc v1.1 (For Mac 68k and PPC)
====================================

Loan Calc is intended to calculate Loans payments in a very simple way.
Also it generates a full payments list from a start date and calculates
total interest. Loan Calc is currency independent so it can be used with
Dollars, Francs, Marks, Pounds,...or whatever you like. Just use a dot
for decimals.

Loan Calc allows you to save all the payments list to a text file or an
Excel sheet.

Universal Conversion Calculator attempts to be just that. A
conversion calculator that will convert just about anything in one
unit, or sets of units, into another. Hundreds of units are built
in, and a nearly unlimited number of custom units can be made from
the built in units. If you need to know what 10 Furlongs per
Fortnight are in Bolts of Cloth per Light Year, then Universal
Conversion Calculator is for you. It is a FAT program and requires
System 8 or later.

Subject: [Q]Redundant software on info-Mac?

I was just wondering why there seems to be so much redundant software
on info-mac?
Are Mac programming students required to post shareware on info-mac
as part of some thesis, or assignments?
This is the only explanation I can come up with, other than ignorance
of programs that already exist. Since there's a searchable archive, I
don't understand this.
God knows we don't need any more graphics or Audio / MIDI playback
programs, SoundApp for example is the best, and plays all formats and
has been around for years.

Just curious, someone enlighten us. Thank god for a digest with TOC!!

Subject: Ethernet Question

Hello,

I m having a strange problem with my home ethernet (appletalk) network. I
have 4 Macs and one printer on this network and shared internet access with
a cable modem. The modem is attached to an Xrouter Pro (router/switch) and 3
Macs connect directly to this router/switch. The Xrouter uplinks to a 10T
ethernet hub which has connected to it the printer and the 4th Mac. This all
works wonderfully.

I added another ethernet module (wall outlet, RJ45 plug) to plug into the
10T hub, and it won t work! I ve checked the cable, it s fine. If I run that
new line to the Xrouter rather than the hub, it s fine but if I plug it into
the hub, no go!! I can t figure this out. The new line is a lengthy run, but
well below the 100 meter ethernet limit. Do I need to go buy another switch
and dump the hub? What is happening here?

PS-if this helps, I MUST uplink from the Xrouter to the hub (using one port
as a crossover) for if I try to uplink from the hub to the Xrouter (other
direction) it doesn t work.

Thanks from a Network novice,

Hello>

In my extensions folder there is a Macromedia folder which has in it a
Shockwave folder and a Shockwave9 folder. The contents of the Shockwave
folder has items which are duplicated or similarly named in the Shockwave8
folder. Can I throw out the Shockwave folder? Or does it service anything
that the contents of the Shockwave8 folder do not?

Thanks,

Hi:
Does anybody know if there is any way to use the Harman/Kardon
speakers that come with the G4 Cube on a USB-equipped Mac *other*
than the Cube? We have an unused pair sitting around, and it seems
such a shame! Thanks.

one know how to ADD a CD-RW to a G4?

Subject: Linking Macs and PCs

This question has surely been asked on Info-Mac many times, but, with
apologies for raising it yet again, how can I link a Mac and a
Windows PC by ethernet with a hub. Not through a Novell-type network
or LANtastic or any of those, just between one Mac and one PC, if you
please?

I have run some desultory searches on the Internet and on several Mac
sites, but can't find anything specific to this question, which must
arise all the time.

People,

I just found a printout I had saved, which came from
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/toast/t ... table.html, which seems
to give the low-down on making bootable Mac CDs. I have never tried
this, but it seems credible.

Subject: Powermac G3/266 and internal IDE CD-RW

I am considering buying an internal IDE 16x10x40 Yamaha
CD-RW drive for use in my beige Powermac G3/266. I am
5,000 miles away from my computer, so I cannot check my
computer's configuration or manual.

My Mac already has a DVD and 56K modem built-in, and I
will be adding a PCI-USB card. My questions are:

1) whether the DVD that came pre-installed with the
computer is an IDE device (I think my configuration
is a standard Apple one, but am not sure);
2) whether my Mac has enough IDE controllers installed
for an additional device (the CD-RW) to be hooked up;
3) whether there is enough physical space to install the
CD-RW drive.

I will be buying the CD-RW drive in the USA and taking
it to Europe, so returning it if it does not work is not
really an option.

Any answers are much appreciated. Please send them to me
directly at [email protected] or [email protected].

Thanks a million,

Pieter

Subject: Share Mac USB keyboard with a PC

I have a bunch of Mac peripherals attached to a USB hub, including a
Mac USB keyboard (HP printer, ZIP, Webcam, mouse).

I would like to be able to unplug the Mac connection to the hub, plug
in the PC, and then use the peripherals with the PC.

The problem I have is that Windows 2000 does not recognize the Mac
keyboard. I did not attempt to use one of the installed USB keyboard
drivers for fear of running into problems.

Is there a driver that I can use/install so that Windows 2000 will
recognize the Mac keyboard, allowing me to use the same keyboard for
the Mac (G4, 9.0.4) and the PC?

Thanks!

PS I now have the Mac and PC connected to the same monitor using a
'super VGA' switch (the 'VGA' switch I tried previously had poor
resolution).

Subject: Stickies Window hack?

Maybe the good folks of this list can help me out.

So anyway, I few years ago, I found a little utility on the 'Net that
patched Stickies so that pressing a certain key combination collapsed
the windows of all Stickies and tiled them down the left hand side of
the monitor from top to bottom. It might have even been an FKEY
resource. I remember this patch being called something along the
lines of "Craig's Stickies Hack" or something of the sort; it might
have been written by Craig Marciniak of SaintEdit, BeforeDark, and
GURU fame.

At any rate, I lost the patch in a Zip disk "click of death" incident
a few months ago, and I haven't been able to find a copy of it
anywhere on the 'Net. I've searched using all the standard Web search
engines -- Dogpile, Google, Alta Vista, etc. -- even using Lycos's
FTP search feature. I found lots of info on changing Stickies colors,
but nothing on a window hack.

I've been searching for ways to organize Stickies' windows since
losing the patch, with no luck. Stickies' windows aren't scriptable,
and installing an extension/control panel combination to control one
application seems like overkill. Sure, I could use Gramotki, but I
found it kept erroring out on my Indigo iMac DV (2000), most likely
due to an extension conflict, but I strictly control the extensions
installed on my machine so that only the ones I truly need and use
are active.

So, would any of you out there remember the little doohicky mentioned
above and could point me to a download location or possibly even have
a copy you could forward to me? Alternatively, is there another way
to arrange Stickies' windows instead of manually placing them where I
want them?

Thanks in advance,

Matthew Schmeer
