Default Folder may be included on the UMich and Info-Mac CD-ROMs.

Version 2.7.3 incorporates the following changes:

- On some machines, the "Click in Finder Window" feature would not
recognize windows in the Finder when running under Mac OS 8.
- You can now add more than one folder with the same name to the
locked folders list. Previously, you could add them to the list,
but they would not appear in the menu.

Digital Diary v1.5
Activity and Decision Tracker for the Macintosh

System Requirements: System 6 and 7, Mac Plus or better (including PowerMac)=
,
1.6 megs free RAM, =B11 Meg disk space

While most personal information managers focus on scheduling and
contacts management, Digital Diary concentrates on keeping an organized
record of your work, allowing you quick and easy retrieval of a project's
history when most needed.

Digital Diary allows fingertip access to the current status of any
projects, allowing you to see all activities on all projects on any day you
choose. On a complex project, there could be a dozen or more separate
issues at the same time, each of which has its own distinct status and
decision process. Wouldn't it be great to be able to pull up the history
and present status of each of these at any time?

Digital Diary organizes note entries into project and day files so that
current reports of all activities on any given day or project can be
instantly viewed. Projects are organized under user-defined categories in a
hierarchical pop-up menu. Projects can be easily transferred between
categories, making it ideal for use as a convenient project status
indicator. Entries are identified with a header containing the type of
activity, project name, category, note number, and date and time of entry.
'To do list' entries will pop up to remind you of unattended items at a
chosen future date. Versatile report generation can gather, for example,
all notes of a given activity type or project status.

Digital Diary=81 replaces:
To do lists, diaries, reminder notes, day files, telephone notes
and all sorts of other memory joggers. And it's fun to use!

Regards, Eric

FastTrash_1.2.sit.
I wrote FastTrash to overcome the annoyance of having to select "Empty
Trash" every time I want to delete something. When you decide it's time to
delete a file, drag it onto the FastTrash 1.2 icon, and it is deleted
immediately. This way, you won't need to choose "Empty Trash" ever again!

This utility is especially handy on large monitors (17-inch plus), because
a trip to the menu bar on them is quite a long way!

Subject: [*] FeatherGIF 1.8, Web transparency filter

=46eatherGIF is a Photoshop filter that lets you easily create complex
transparency effects with GIF images. FeatherGIF lets you create soft
edges, see-through gradients - even automatic dropshadows and cutouts,
and all effects will let a web page's graphic background show through
properly. No need for complicated multi-step channel operations.

Version 1.8 adds automatic previews, persistent settings, and the
ability to use Photoshop=92s transparency channels.

=46eatherGIF is shareware for Macintosh. Besides Photoshop 2.5 or later,
it also works with Color It, Fractal Design Painter, and The Cheaper

Subject: [*] La Confrerie - a game scenario for S&S 3D

The attached file contains "La Confrerie", a French language scenario for
Sword Dream 3D.

Sword Dream 3D is a fantasy adventure gaming system. Old role playing games
had you play over a boring 2D map. In Sword Dream 3D, your surroundings are
in three-D (just like in Marathon=81, Doom=81 or Descent=81). Still, this=
isn't a
shoot-em-up videogame: it's a think-first, act-later game.
Sword Dream 3D is a full adventure gaming system, and is endless and
modular by design. Dream allows players to download new adventures and
continue their adventuring inside the new mileu.

=46ull details on Sword Dream 3D (along with the application itself - in
English, French or Italian) are available at http://www.comenius.com/dream/
English and Italian versions of this scenario, along with all other
available scenarios can be downloaded from
http://www.comenius.com/dream/scenarios.html

The game scenario can be freely redistributed on the Internet, inside
CD-ROMs and via BBSs.

You need only ResEdit.

(1) Duplicate a font suitcase and remove all bitmap fonts from the copy.

(2) Open the font suitcase with ResEdit.

* Rename the 'FOND' and all 'sfnt' resources (menu "Resource :
Get Resource Info"). For example, change "Times" to "Times TR",
"Times Bold" to "Times TR Bold", etc.

* Open the 'FOND' resource (menu "Resource : Open Using Hex Editor").
Replace the first letter of the font name with an "X"
(menu "Find : Find ASCII..."). For example, change "Times" to "Ximes".
Thereby your modified fonts will not be substituted by resident
printer fonts.

* Open an 'sfnt' resource.
Change the hex string (menu "Find : Find Hex...")
"B9BABBBCBDBEBFC0C1" to "F0BABBF8F9FAD7FBFC".
Repeat for all 'sfnt' resources in this suitcase.

(3) You can find a keyboard layout and international resources in
"Eudora Central/East Europe"

Subject: [*] McPoet4.3

McPoet is a set of tools for text generation and text morphing: that is,
tools for writing computer-generated and computer-assisted poetry. It
uses its own simple language to allow the text-generation rules to be
completely user-configurable. It is easy to write your own rules for
McPoet even if you know nothing about programming your Mac. You can also
use the large set of built-in rules, or the (now much-improved) automatic
rule-generating function which can turn ordinary text into an executable
rule. The text morphing features include an automatic version of Tristan
Tzara's original Dadaist formula for creating poetry from text, an
eecummingsfication feature for imitating the style of the great poet ee
cummings, multiple forms of Markov chaining (with several built-in
probability tables) and much more. Rule files and the word-type files
that they reference are now stored externally, on disk. As a result,
there are no longer any strong constraints on the number of word types
you can use, or on the number of rules.
Version 4.3 fixes a few bugs found in version 4.2, and has a
jazzier interface. Versions numbered 4.x are much improved over versions
numbered 3.x or lower.
McPoet is Dada-ware: uncopyrighted and free. It may be freely
redistributed. It requires at least 4.5 megabytes of free disk space, at
least 3 megabytes of available RAM, and a fast processor (or great
patience!). Though a PowerPC is highly recommended, it is compatible with
all Macs.

Subject: [*] Music Collection Deluxe 2.1 (FileMaker Pro 3.x)

Finally it's here: a truly relational music-collection database.

Music Collection Deluxe 2.1 is an intuitive, robust database designed to help
you track your growing music collection.

Similar databases overlook your cassette and LP collection and the fact that
some titles include more than one compact disc -- these are some of the
unique features of Music Collection Deluxe 2.1.

Improvements from version 2.0 to 2.1
Added fields for song lyrics (after many requests), music author, lyrics
author, song producer, arrangements and copyright information.
Improved the exclusive artist "Sort Order" feature (see details below) to
provide feedback of how the artist/group will be sorted.
Miscellaneous interface improvements.

-----------------------------
Version 2.1 features:
------------------------------
True relational capabilities for song titles, song times, song lyrics, group
members, member's instruments and multiple-disc titles -- great for box sets
-- you're only limited by hard disk space.

Comprehensive fields for tracking every detail of your vast music collection:
artist/group, title, song name, song time, artists names, artist's
instruments, record label, catalog number, genre, rating, purchase price,
serial number, location and more.

Exclusive artist "Sort Order" allows easy grouping of artists by first or
last name. (For example, "The Who" can be sorted by "Who The" or "The Who"
with a mouse click. Sort by most other fields with a mouse click.

Subject: [*] NetBackup 1.0

Requirements:
Macintosh or Power Macintosh
System 7.1 or greater
HyperCard or HCPlayer 2.2 or greater, 2.3.5 recommended
8mb RAM or more

Recent versions can be found at http://www.pe.net/~bsheafer/

Summary and Features:
NetBackup 1.0 was written as a complete data backup utility for the Macintosh
and small Macintosh networks. It is written in HyperTalk, the scripting
language of HyperCard.

#NetBackup 1.0 can copy individual files, and complete folders, very quickly
to almost any mounted volume* such as external tape/cartridge drives, external
hard drives, or any other designated networked volume.

#NetBackup 1.0 can automatically or manually mount** and unmount networked
volumes either on an AppleTalk or Ethernet network.

#NetBackup 1.0 can do scheduled** backups so backups can be performed when
computer usage is at its minimum. It can also be configured to quit when the
backup session is complete.

#NetBackup 1.0 keeps an ongoing extensive log file, both within the
application and in a text file located on the desktop.

* Floppies are slated for a future version if the need is there. This was
decided because the size of hard drives and applications these days doesn't
make this seem feasible. NetBackup 1.0 does check the volume and total sizes
of a session prior to the backup process. If NetBackup senses that the
files/folders to be backed up total greater than the backup volume, you will
be notified and the backup process will cease. We wil try in future versions
to make NetBackup learn to fill up consecutive volumes during a manual
session.

** Registered Versions Only.

Subject: [*] NetRPG 3.0.1

NetRPG is an internet server which lets a group of friends role-play
over the net. NetRPG allows players to talk with one another using a
mud-like interface, ready weapons, set an armor class, have hit points,
store online character sheets, calculate and run combats using
initiative rolls, resolve attacks and distribute damage between players
and monsters, store and retrieve ASCII maps to facilitate showing
exactly where the action is occuring, roll dice either in the open or
privately shown to only the player and DM, and allows the DM to fudge
attack rolls when a plot line necessitates a critical hit or miss or
whatever. All of these features (and more!) combine in NetRPG to make
live internet role-playing not only possible, but very enjoyable!

Subject: [*] PowerReplace 6.2.1; a text conversion utility

Announcing the release of PowerReplace 6.2.1! PowerReplace is a powerful
text conversion utility. It does the conversion using a small file called
"Filter". The syntax of filter is very easy to understand. PowerReplace is
also an utility to build text conversion application. It can create small
stand-alone daughter-application called "SelfReplace", who makes your
favorite conversion more easily and efficiently.

PowerReplace can replace character (including NULL, CR, LF, TAB) or string
by any other string. By use of the asterisk-sign(*) representing any
indeterminate string, it can replace also a string only whose two
extremities are known. It supports all character set, hexadecimal string
and regular expression(pattern) for find/replace.

New features
- Added Unanchor/Anchor Toolbar command in the Control menu.
- Added preferences for the window position, toolbar status, text font.
- Extract filter from SelfReplace using PowerReplace.
- protect filter by setting password in SelfReplace.
- Added author name and filter version number in filter information.

Subject: [*] QuickInstaller 1.1.0; The Installers Builder.

QuickInstaller 1.1.0 allows you to create straightforward an installer
for distributing any kind of file. You can build your own 68k, PPC or
FAT installer application in a very simple way, choosing many features
such as: compression, target system, computer restarting, destination
folder. The Built Installer can show your own logo in its main window as
well as a scrolling text in its splash screen. Also QuickInstaller 1.1.0
can build single self-extracting installers and installers having
external documents for distributing your creations by using the media
you want. QuickInstaller 1.1.0 is shareware, it costs less than a small
utility and anyone should afford it. QuickInstaller Maker requires at
least System 7 and a 68030 processor to run. The Built Installer
requires at least System 7 but runs on every processor type. Balloons
are available. The QuickInstaller package contains both 68k and PPC
version.

Why to say more about QuickInstaller 1.1.0? Any technical analysis would be
very prosy: you'd better try it.

Subject: [*] ScenarioMaker 3D, developer release 6

ScenarioMaker 3D is used to create 3D environments to be used in Sword
Dream 3D. Sword Dream 3D is a three-dimensional adventure gaming system for
the Macintosh. Your surroundings are in three-D (just like in Marathon=81,
Doom=81 or Descent=81). Still, this isn't a shoot-em-up videogame: it's a
think-first, act-later game. And it's fun for days, not minutes...
Dream 3D is distributed under the shareware system: try it first, pay if
you like it.

Both Sword Dream 3D and ScenarioMaker will ultimately be made available in
English, French and Italian.

A read-me file in the package describes the 3D features for this program. A
full-length manual in Microsoft Word 5.1 format can be downloaded from
ftp://ftp.comenius.com/pub/software/mac/dream/

The Sword Dream 3D WWW site can be reached at http://www.comenius.com/dream/
There you'll find full details on the game, and will be able to download a
copy.

Hardware requirements: a 68030 or better Mac OS computer, with a 14", 256
colors monitor, and System 7.

ScenarioMaker 3D is freeware and can be freely re-distributed. For more
info, use e-mail. mailto:[email protected]

Subject: [*] Screen Catcher 1.0f - GIF, JPEG, and PICT screen snapshots

This is the French version of Screen Catcher 1.0. It should be placed
alongside the English version of Screen Catcher already in the archives.

Screen Catcher is a shareware application that captures screen images and
saves them directly to PICT, GIF, and JPEG files. Screen Catcher also
performs color reduction and palette modification, making preparation of
images for web or print publication a one-step process.

Screen Catcher enables you to:

- Precisely select an area before capturing an image, including
making single-pixel adjustments with the arrow keys
- Capture pulled down menus
- Read and write progressive JPEG files
- Read and write GIF files with interlacing and transparency
- Convert images to the standard 216-color web browser palette,
Microsoft Windows (R) palette, Macintosh color or grayscale
palettes, or an optimally chosen color palette
- Reduce or change color palettes automatically
- Automatically name and save image files to any folder
- Copy and paste, drag and drop, and undo operations
- Generate URLs for images, including WIDTH and HEIGHT tags

Screen Catcher operates on any Macintosh or compatible running System 7
or higher, and is accelerated for PowerPC. In addition to the standard
internet archives, information and updates are available at:

Screen Catcher may be included on the UMich and Info-Mac CD-ROMs.

Subject: [*] Sunset 1.0

Sunset is a free disk- and memory-friendly screensaver application. It
shows an ever changing Moire-like pattern, also known as Dyson's Folly,
on your screen. In addition, a checkbox allows for a nice kaleidoscopic
effect.

Sunset is not an Init nor an Extension, it is just a small application
that does not patch any system trap. Hence it does not interfere with
your system and can be quitted at any time.

Sunset is only 20k and takes about 70k of system memory depending on the
complexity of the pattern.

Sunset comes in three flavors: as an 68k application, as a PPC-only
application and as a Darkside of the Mac plug-in module (named
Polygons).

Subject: [*] TitlePop 3.0.1

TitlePop installs a pop-up menu in the title bar of every window,
allowing you to instantly access not only all the windows owned by that
particular program, but also of any program currently running, including the
Finder. (Savvy Mac users know that the Finder has a similar feature, which
creates a pop-up menu of an open folder's parent folder(s) when you press the
command key while clicking on the title bar. TitlePop is aware of this,
and allows the Finder to create this menu when the command key is pressed,
just like normal.)

In addition, version 3.0 of TitlePop now allows you to drag and drop
files or data into any application or directly into open documents through the
pop-up menu!

Subject: [*] ZyXEL Omni Station 1.0

Zyxel Omni Station is a program you may find useful if you have a Zyxel
Omni.net, or a Zyxel Omni.TA 128 ISDN adapter. (or eventually later...)
I find very useful to know who called me when I was away, and WHEN! This
small program allows this. It listens to the Zyxel Omni, that sends a bunch
of characters when someone is calling. The time, and caller's phone number,
are being displayed in a list, on your Macintosh computer.
