Some months ago I received a message of an available itunes download upgrade from Apple via software update.I hit the install button after which my imac froze and wouldn't boot up.I managed to put my origional install disc in and ran the repair program to no avail.I was running 10.4.11 OSX wit
628 megs of ram.I then had to wipe my hard drive from the disc repair program and reinstall all my software.I still get software update notices from itunes but I don't do them for fear of a reoccurance.I have updated my Safari without incident.Anyone else have this happen?

There aren't any widespread reports of any such thing happening. It sounds to me more like you may have a faulty hard drive which wasn't showing symptoms until this iTunes update happened to bring it forward. Or, perhaps it was just a fluke.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.
