has anyone else seen a similar problem or has a hunch what might be wrong?

every character echoed back when I type, or any other character displayed
by the mainframe, causes the Mac to show 3 horizontal bars of whitish noise,
in particular I seem to see a rather thick white line which looks as if it
is the beam returning from the right side to the left for the next line.

I tried with both versions .15 and .5x and the problem is identical.

In addition , a few weeks back I had a similar problem, when I had vertical
stripes of snow, simply when connecting a cable to the modem-port. I also
don't like the temperature on the left side behind which the analog-board sits.
It simply feels hotter than I would like, nothing scientific, just a hunch.

I build the cable myself from a joy-stick extension cable, using the pin-connec-
tions described in MacTEP, and it tests out ok, as far as I can tell.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter - I'd sure appreciate it.
