Here is a list of available options from OWC:

I would say the 1 GHz option from PowerLogix is your best choice, even though it's still a G3. If you're going to be sticking with Mac OS 9 or an older version of X, a G3 is all you probably need.
If you want something with more performance, I'd suggest upgrading to at least a G4 AGP tower. This will significantly increase your upgrade potential.

I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.

Re: G3 Processor Upgrade Options
I would second that. With a B & W as opposed to a beige G3, if you go to a G4 upgrade your bus speed will go down from 100 MHz to 66 MHz. I ran a powerlogix for several years on a B&W on OS X 10.3 and it ran really nicely.

Re: G3 Processor Upgrade Options
I have to agree with the posts here, coming from a 6500 all the way through the G3 line to my current G4/Dual 533; unless you can find a proc upgrade for a really REALLY good price, you are starting to shoot yourself in the foot. Unless your G3 does everything you really need it to do. There is really no reason not to upgrade. I found this machine on Criag's list for 50 bones, and I have used it for the past two years running 10.3.9. Cannot wait for my Dual 800 MDD to get here! WOOT!
