I assume that you used techtool to rebuild the desktop. When Eudora
does updates, it leaves an old copy around and creates a new
executable. If you delete the old eudora, that should solve that
problem. If you continue to have problems, it sounds like a
scrambled directory structure of some kind. I would recommend
DiskWarrior and Norton Utilities.

Sounds to me like you have corrupted a system file during the
original crash. I was having freezes coming out of sleep with a
Bronze Keyboard, OS 9.0.4, and RAM Doubler. I was advised to get rid
of RAM Doubler. I did, added more memory, and have not had any
problems since then. I always like RAM Doubler, but my machine is
running better without it [of course 32OM of RAM helps
I would try a clean install of 9.1. (not even sure if that is an option)
If that is not an option you might try the following sequence:
Download TechTool from http://www.micromat.com/. Rebuild the desktop.
If that doesn't work you need to consider DiskWarrior and Norton
Utilities. I particularly like DiskWarrior and tend to run my cleanup
in the following sequence:
DiskWarrior
Norton Utilities Disk Doctor
TechTool
DiskWarrior rebuilds & optimizes the directory structure from
scratch. Norton fixes the files. Techtool rebuilds the desktop from
scratch. From scratch is important because rebuilding a corrupt
desktop [e.g. holding down command option on boot] just gets you
another corrupt desktop.

Subject: [*] ][2Mac 2.1
][2Mac is a set of 3 applications, 1 for the Mac and 2 for the Apple-][,
that allow you to backup and restore Apple-][ floppies to/from a Mac.
The floppy-image is stored on the Mac in a format that is recognized by
IIe, the Apple //e emulator for the Mac, written by Victor and Vincent Tan
One of the users of ][2Mac even reported, that he has successfully
transferred DOS 3.3-, ProDOS- as well as Pascal-formatted disks from
his Apple //e to his Mac, and that he is using the diskimages now
on his Mac, in the IIgs emulator called 'Bernie ][ the Rescue'
(see: http://www.magnet.ch/emutech/Bernie/).
Also... ][2Mac enables you to use a Macintosh to send out and receive
Apple-][-disks to and from your friends over the internet...
New in this version:
-][2Mac should now be able to use a KeySpan Serial-adapter (serial to USB
converter). Configure ][2Mac to 'Use The Mac's Printerport' from the
Special-menu, configure the KeySpan software to do the same by opening
the Control Panel Keyspan USA28 Assistant1 and then:
-Click on the Advanced Settings1 button
-Make sure the Emulate Printer Port1 option is active
-Connect the Apple-][ to port 1 of the KeySpan Serial Adapter
-Apple-c is now Apple-IIc in the Special menu.
-Fix for not being able to find the Preferences-file in a Mac that runs
both Mac OS 9.X and MacOS X.
-Fix for a bug that sometimes made the progressbar invisible (registered
versions only).

Subject: [*] Mac-Site-list, Version 4.6.5
This is the latest edition (Feb 1, 2001) of the Mac-site-list and should
replace version 4.6.5 of the Mac-Site-list.
The Mac-Site-list lists over 120 mac anonymous ftp sites (some with notes),
over 100 Mac web pages, and contains some instructions on how to use anonymous
ftp and find files as well a format chart showing which programs decompress
and decode which files. Also there is a section on how to use certain files.
This archive contains both the text and html versions of
the Mac-Site-list.
To ensure that the columns in the Format Chart section line up correctly the
document's text must be in a monospaced font such as Courier 10pt, Monaco 9pt,
or a PC equivalent.

Gib,
I have seen similar behavior - I would recommend two fixes. #1 update
to 9.1, #2 follow the suggestions from the previous post and remove
via the extensions managers any extensions you do not require or that
do not apply to your machine. 9.1 completely updates OpenTransport
and will probably solve the problem by brute force update

Any chance that the extensions are not "on" in the extensions manager?
There was a conflict reported with OS 9 and Retrospect Remote that
caused difficulty with changing to Remote Access via Location
Manager. You may have a similar conflict. If you have the option of
upgrading to 9.1 it might solve the problem. 9.1 has a new version of
ARA [4.0] and OpenTransport [2.7].
If you have recently installed software that includes extensions,
that is a likely culprit.
I have a similar configuration and love working with 320M of RAM

Subject: [Q] freezing from sleep under OS 9.1 [more]
Following up on my previous post, I found that the freeze occurs
(only?) if Appletalk is set to the IR port. I used to have it set to
the serial port for locations where I wasn't using Ethernet but when
I got a Palm, its software started the Serial Port monitor and there
was no way to quit it. So every time I did a Location Manager
switch, I had a delay while it generated the port busy error, and I
changed those locations to IR just to avoid that hassle. (I've since
started using Palm Synch-and-Quit from the Info-Mac archive and no
longer have the busy port problem.) I verified the problem by
choosing a location where Appletalk was set to Ethernet, slept the
computer, woke it up successfully, changed Appletalk to the IR port,
slept the computer again, and then tried to wake it and watched it
freeze when the desktop picture was displayed but before the drive
mounted.\
If this is indeed the problem, I now know how to avoid it, but are
there any guesses why the problem exists at all?

I don't have a solution for you but... I faced the same scenario when
I tried to install the HP 4000 software on my Powerbook G3 Lombard. I
simply removed the HP desktop printer icon and rebuilt my desktop. I
tried on two separate occasions over two months apart with the same
result. Eventually, I believe I did a generic install, then went to
the setup in the chooser and changed the driver to the correct HP4000
from the PPD folder in System Folder/Extensions. I hope I'm getting
this right as I writing this from memory while on the train
mid-commute.
