Re: What iDevices do you own?
Well, if we talk about all Apple devices as iDevices, we currently have two eMacs in the basement, the wife's white Macbook, my black Macbook, an iBook G3 that's usually just a wireless print server, an iPod mini in pink, an iPod (30gb?) and a PowerMac 6400. The iPod gets occasional use, but we're ...

Re: What is wrong with this picture?
Maybe they photoshopped a white Macbook? Though let's be honest, it looks more like a Fujitsu with that high-gloss lid.

Re: tornado
Holy cow, that's terrifying!
Closest we've ever come to that here in Colorado was a tornado that blew past about ten miles out. All that one did was tear off some shingles on the houses about five subdivisions east of us.
I can't imagine driving into it, though.

Re: Beige G3 Lives On!
Just found myself in possession of a 266 G3 beige desktop this afternoon. It's in really wonderful shape, 320MB of RAM and I think a 6 GB hard drive. It has the "Wings" personality card, so it has audio and video in and out, though my understanding is that that only works in the Classic OS ...

What do you think of this one? I had one at my office, before I upgraded to a 24" HP monitor with built in height adjustments.

Re: Airport hardware problems
I've also heard that it's possible to think you have the antenna attached, but it's only partially conected. Press down on the antenna connector and see if you can't get a second "snap" out of it to ensure it's really seated. It will help immensely, from my recollections.

Re: iMac G5 a lemon - Apple comes through
They do seem to take their lumps when they make a mistake. G5 iMacs, the old eMac capacitor problem. When something isn't right, they do seem to do their level best to make it so.

Re: Printing Slides in Keynote
Well, spread it around! It's one of those "probably documented but who reads the documentation anyway" features, and I know it took us by surprise that there was an answer to the question that didn't involve Powerpoint.

I know it's been forever, Cheryl, but did you ever get an answer to your question?

Re: cd rw the big floppy
On a Windows machine, you could use it a as a multisession CD, and effectively use it as though it were a floppy. I'm not aware of a modern Mac OS X implementation, though in the Classic OS there was WriteCD-RW: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/11957.

Re: EmpowerBook
If our home office wasn't part of our greatroom, and my wife wouldn't kill me for putting a desktop on the partner desk that we use our Macbooks on together, I would so buy an SE/30 off of eBay and use it for my writing. Lord knows, when I was in college, those were the machines to get onto when you ...

Re: Matte or Glossy?
I've yet to be convinced that the glossy displays are anything other than a gimmick.
Have you used both side by side? I can't say I'm comparing apples and oranges, but I use matte displays on my PC at work and on the external montior it's hooked up to. And a glossy on my Macbook. And while the ...

Re: Where PC Makers Go Wrong
Two areas that I could definitely see them innovating are the current craze for MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices) - I, for one, hate most of them - the screens are too small and the input devices too cumbersome. If someone were, instead, to put together a MID with a bluetooth headset that also included ...

Re: Replace optical drive with HDD in Powerbook?
As cool as the second drive would be, I'd be even happier if someone figured out how to lodge a second battery in there -- one that would be in the unit all the time, to supplement the user removable one. Go all Pismo on it, as it were.

Re: What does everybody think about the macbook air?
Were I in a position to own a Mac Pro, I would say that the Air is exactly the companion I would want for it, for portability. But that would mean that I had nearly $5K to invest in computers when my little $1K Macbook is probably overkill.
I think that the Air will do better than the nay-sayers ...

This won't work because the cable on the MBA Superdrive is built in .
But would it work, do you think, if someone were to have an adpater that had two USB connectors that fed into a single female USB A interface? Like this one, for example:

Re: Matte or Glossy?
I purchased glossy, and had no choice as I bought a Macbook. And I love it. The reflections that you do get are barely noticable, and tend to fade into the periphery when you're focussed on something in the foreground.
