Subject: [*] Coffee_Break_1.1; designed to reduce RSS

Coffee Break is a program designed to reduce the chances of your getting a
Repetetive Stress Injury. It does so by forcing you to take a break every
so often. You can set the time between breaks and the length of breaks,
along with some other neat features.

Version 1.1 fixes a couple bugs, the most insidious of which was one that
caused the program to crash on some machines. (I still haven't figured out
how that one made it past me and my beta testers!) These are now fixed.
See the Version History file for details.

geometric objects, letters, or numbers to the screen. If Speech Manager is
loaded it will say the object drawn.

Hope the young ones like it!

Subject: [*] comms-service-11-hc; a rolodex-like communication program

commsService is a easy-to-use application that provides a "rolodex" like
communications facility. The application provides facilities for recording
the details of commonly used connections/sessions as a series of parameters
on an individual "card".

A communications "card" is referred to as a "service", which is defined as
any process running on a local or remote computer, eg. an Online Public
Access Catalogue (OPAC) or a Campus Wide Information System (CWIS). Each
service is uniquely defined via a series of 12 parameters that describe
attributes such as the name, the method used to connect to the service,
the login and logout scripts, etc.

Service definitions allow for multiple, simultaneous sessions to be active
at any one time. A typical session might therefore include a serial
connection to your local OPAC in one window, whilst another window displays
information from a CWIS, and a third displays a remote network connection
to a second OPAC.

The application utilises the power of HyperCard's scripting language,
HyperTalk to provide a powerful communication scripting facility. It
achieves this by defining a series of communication specific language
extensions that enable scripts to communicate directly with services.

commsService is based upon Apple's Communications Toolbox technology,
consequently connectivity is only limited by the range of Connection and
Terminal Emulation tools that are available on your machine.

Folks:

I get to postin' here and there and forget where I put everything. I
scoured a.s.m., merit and sumex and found this NOT!

So here it is. will post to a.s.m., too.

Author: Ken Worley.
Type: Think C 6.0.1 project.
Content: Source for a sample control panel, sample INIT and sample
patch. Built examples of each.
Additions: Ken Long added Think C 5.0.4 projects, to make it easier on
the po' folks.

I tried these and the CP and INIT *both* show their icons at startup.
The CP won't open unless loaded, but has nice features for a shell. I
also tried building all three and there were no problems with that.

Subject: [*] DropZone(tm) 3.0.4 (drag-and-drop utility -- formerly LaunchPad)

(Shareware, $10)
System 7's drop-launching features are a nice idea, but
there is a catch: in order to drop documents onto an
application, you need to have the application on the
desktop, or in some other open window. This one problem is
probably the single greatest impediment to realizing the
full potential of drop-launching. In the past, you had
basically two choices: either fill up your desktop with an
array of various application icons, to keep them available
for drop-launching, or keep your desktop clean, and limit
your use of drop-launching to rare occasions.

DropZone(tm) changes all that.

DropZone is a simple utility designed to let you keep a
clean desktop, but still maintain convenient access to
System 7's drop-launching features. DropZone serves as a
drag-and-drop dock for any applications that you choose.
You simply drag documents to the DropZone icon, and then
select an application to launch from the "get file" dialog.
The dropped documents will then be opened using the selected
application (if possible).

DropZone also facilitates automated drop-launching with Valet
Launching(tm). With the included utility, DropZone Valet(tm),
you can configure DropZone to automate your most frequent drop-
launching tasks.

With DropZone, you keep your desktop clean and take advantage
of System 7's drop-launching.

So why use drop-launching or DropZone? If this question
comes to mind, then you are probably one of the many people
who have yet to experience just how convenient drop-
launching can be. Drop-launching makes many tasks much
easier. See the enclosed documentation for useful examples.

Specifications:

DropZone(tm) requires less than 35K of disk space, and as
little as 45K of RAM. DropZone Valet(tm) requires less than
25K of disk space.

Subject: [*] Fantasy Fball FM-ProV1.3; a database for fantasy football

Here's the file and info.

BinchFoot* V1.3 is now the only nifty Fantasy Football database for the
Mac. The improvements are as follows:

Draft Manager!!!: This is by far the best improvement. It assists with
your draft and team set up. By following some easy instructions, Draft
Manager helps you set up each team. It then brings you to draft day. Here
you let BinchFoot* lead you through the draft. You can keep track of how
long each pick is taking and you have a roster to choose players from. It
also warns you if a player has already been selected.

More Scoring Options

Binchfoot*1.3 allows you to keep statistics for performance. Each position
has it's special way of recieving points. Quarterbacks get points for
passing yardage, Running Backs for rushing yardage, and Receivers for
receiving yardage. Each postition can only have one Performance Statistic.
Binchfoot* 1.3 also allows you to enter statistics for actual scoring.
You can enter touchdowns, passing touchdowns, safetys, etc for each player.
And by entering these statistics, Binchfoot* will pull the value of each
type of score.

User-Defined value points: Yes, you the user can define how many points a
touchdown, safety, etc. is worth. Flexibility is great!

Line-Up: You can also define who's playing and who's not for each givin
week. If a player is playing, his points are counted, if he doesn't his
points are just something to talk about.

There are many more things that you have to see for yourself. Binchfoot*
really helps that Mac owner(and Windows) manage their league.

FracPPC is a program for generating fractals on the Power Macintosh. It runs
_only_ on Power Macs. This is version 1.0b2, which fixes (I hope) a bug with
16/32 bit color displays. It also adds the ability to generate Julia sets as
well as the Mandelbrot set. It still lacks some basic features like color
editing and the ability to save or copy as a PICT (these features will almost
certainly be in the next version).

Subject: [*] Mail2000 program to read e-mail. Update.

Mail2000 is a small application to read e-mail textfiles. I
wrote it because I have a lot of old e-mail lying around on my
discs which I occasionally want to read. Mail2000 reads
textfiles containing e-mail and provides threading of the
mails. This is not for people who have fancy high-speed
TCP/IP, slip connections and I dont know what else, but for
those who save their mails in textfiles and keep it at home on
their Mac.

Features include reading of UN*X style terminated files,
stripping of mail-headers and threading on subject and
sender.

It needs system 7 to run.

This archive contains Mail2000, a read me file and an example
file.

Subject: [*] Mark's Portfolio Manager 1.2 upload

The following is a binhexed, compacted file (BinHex 4.0, Compact Pro 1.33)
containing the file "Mark's Portfolio Manager", a Microsoft Excel 4.0
application for managing equity investments.

This application ought to run just fine under System 6.0.x and System 7.x, and
requires version 4.0 or later of Microsoft Excel.

It will allow the user to keep many portfolios of stocks, bonds, mutual funds,
etc., quickly and easily make trades in these instruments, and keep track of
how well you are doing in each, and how well you are doing in your whole
portfolios.

There is an on-line tutorial, and plenty of help to get the user started. You
can even customize help to suit your individual needs if you like.

If anyone has any questions about this upload, we can be reached (for now, at
least :) ) on the Internet at: [email protected]

Thanks very much, and we hope that you find this program useful.

SoundCap (including Huffman compressed files),
SoundEdit (including stereo files),
AIFF and AIFF-C,
System 7 Sound,
Sun Audio (AU),
NeXT .snd,
Windows WAVE,
Sound Blaster VOC,
Amiga MOD,
Amiga IFF (8SVX) (including compressed files),
Sound Designer II,
DVI ADPCM, and
any 'snd' resource file.

SoundApp also supports conversion to the following sound formats: System 7,
Sound suitcase, WAVE, AIFF/AIFF-C, and NeXT .au.

Large sounds can be played with minimal memory, and it can convert 16-bit
files to 8-bit files, if desired. It also supports true 16-bit playback of
16-bit sound files, as well as, AU and ADPCM files. Stereo playback is also
supported.

Version 1.2.1 is primarily a bug release for playback of 8SVX files. In
addition, I've added a Convert menu item.

Subject: [*] Sparkle 2.12 A mac-look-and-feel MPEG and QT player and converter

This version makes the following changes to Sparkle 2.1
* A few minor bugs were fixed.
* One major bug was fixed, which required extensive reworking of Sparkle
internals. This is why I haven't been able to get this version out
sooner.
* Somewhat better (though not yet great) support for QT movies with only
sound and no video.
* In reponse to many mail message from people who didn't understand the
new features in 2.1, I've added a lot more documentation, in the
ReadMe 2nd file, and I've added balloon help.

You will get slightly better results with this version if you throw away
your old Sparkle preferences file (in the Preferences folder in the
System folder) before running Sparkle 2.12.
This isn't essential but will improve performance a little.

This version
* is not PPC native
* does not support sound
* does not support apple events
* does not support online help
These are all high priorities, pretty much in that order.

As always, if you find any bug or anomaly in this code please tell me.
The sooner you tell me, the sooner I'll fix it.
As always there remain a few rough edges to this program, though I hope
most of them won't be too distressing to users. Like previous rough
edges, they'll be done away with in time.

Sparkle plays MPEGs, PICTs and QT movies and converts between them. It is
multifinder friendly and, with enough memory, will open multiple
documents at once.
It is free.

REQUIRES:
System 7 or greater.
QuickTime 1.6 or greater.
An 020 based mac or greater.
This version requires the Thread Manager.

Subject: [*] VA-NewsWatcher; "NewsWatcher with binary posting"

Announcing VA-NewsWatcher 2.0b9.0+
Value-Added NewsWatcher with binary posting

MOST IMPORTANT. This version is not an "official, John
Norstad" version of NewsWatcher. John can't and won't
support it, and is not responsible to any bugs I added to
his code. I intend to do my best to keep up with whatever
changes John makes to his version, and incorporate them in
timely releases of my version. John's own binary posting
version will come later. Since binary posting is only on the
wish list, and not (to the best of my recollection) an
official proposed feature of either 2.0 final or 2.1, I have
decided to release my own version.

Apart from binary posting, I've made some other small
changes to my version. There should be a small speed
increase for Quadra owners who have installed System Update
3.0 because of a change that eliminates unnecessary '040
cache flushing. The spinning beach ball cursor has been
replaced with a color animated cursor (the small NewsWatcher
newspaper icon, with a spinning globe). The dialog to select
folders has been changed to satisfy the Apple Human
Interface Guidelines, and it's now smarted about aliases to
volumes. The subject line to file name routine has been
changed to be more intelligent and to provide less mangled
file names when saving articles to disk.

Obviously the big change is binary posting. A file icon
button is added to message windows, to the right of the
"send to self" button. Clicking on it elicits a file dialog,
where a single file to attach to your post may be chosen.
Clicking on the Send button causes the selected file to be
uuencoded, split into several sections, and sent.

I have also answered the request that the checkmarks to
the left of each button be active, so that clicking on them
will enable or disable the relevant option, exactly as if
the button had been clicked. John has announced that his
next version will do the same.

Freeware--distribute freely along with this readme.
Fat binary--contains both 68K and PowerPC native code.

This little application is a patcher for ZTerm 0.9 (this version ships

ZTerm to use for the terminal session instead of the ZTerm built-in font
(which only has 9- and 12-point bitmaps). Of course, it'll have to be a
monospaced font (like Monaco, Courier, Noiro, ... I'm sure there are
other favorites) in order for ZTerm to draw the terminal session
properly. The patcher also lets you remove the patch or switch fonts in a

Binhex (.hqx) is an ascii encoding scheme similar to (but not compatible
with) uuencoding.

>From mac.archive.umich.edu:

/mac/util/compression/pcbinhex.uu
"A version of BinHex in .EXE form, which runs on IBM & its clones"

The resulting binary will be compressed with StuffIt or Compact Pro.

If it's compressed with StuffIt (.sit) use this:

/mac/util/compression/unsitins.exe.uu
"IBM executables for UnSit, a program to decode StuffIt 1.5.1, 2.0,
and 3.0 archives on IBMs and compatibles."

You can decode these files using PC BinHex 1.3, available at:

ftp://boombox.micro.umn.edu//pub/pc/binhex/binhex.exe

HOWEVER!!! - BinHex is not a compression utility; all it does is convert
the files into 7-bit ASCII, similar to a uuencoded file (this is done to
aid transfer over funky unix mail systems that only allow text). Once you
un-BinHex the quicktime movies, you'll probably find they have either a
.sit or .cpt extension. These files are created by StuffIt and CompactPro
respectively, which are Macintosh archive utilities similar to PKZip,
though not identical. I haven't tried any PC utilities that will unarchive
.sit or .cpt files. You might try this one, but I don't know if it works:

ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/leonardr/Aladdin/UNSITINS.EXE

Hope this helps

I could give a simpler answer: just use the view that comes with
EV, rather than making a new one. This one is properly configured
to handle I-M digests. I _never_ edit the digests manually, just
download them and drag them into the I-M folder.

[Q] MacPPP and Shiva LanRover
Hi there,
We are using MacPPP to dial into the internet thru our Shiva LanRover.
Everything works fine, until exactly 6 hours after we end a connection. Then,
MacPPP decides to automate a new connection without any human interaction. If
the machine is unattended at that time then we end up racking up charges with
our internet provider. I have found that if I do a "Hard Close" then it wont
do
this, but then I have to open the MacPPP control panel to start the next
connection. Has anyone else seen this or know what to do to fix the problem??

Thanks in advance...

Do you have modems for each machine? If so, you might try the telephone
lines for file transfer. If this isn't practical, you might try either
BinHexing or uuencoding the file, segmenting it into convenient, disk-sized
blocks and carrying it to the destination. The chunks can be joined either
by a PC uudecode or un-BinHex utility, or, lacking that capability, in a
text editor. For a Mac uuencoder, decoder and segmenter, try:

ftp://ftp.switch.ch//mirror/info-mac/ut ... ol-232.hqx

You should (I hope) be able to find a Mac utility for BinHexing. For PC
de-BinHexing try:

ftp://boombox.micro.umn.edu//pub/pc/binhex/binhex.exe

and for uudecoding try:

ftp://ftp.tex.ac.uk//pub/archive/tools/ ... decode.exe

I believe this program will join segmented files also.

Hope this helps.

Yup, that's the way it works. I was quite disappointed by this too. On the
other hand, the DB module has every single feature (except for this one) I
had ever used in FileMaker Pro, and it cost me only a bit more than the
last upgrade to FileMaker would have cost me. I'd still recommend it for
anyone looking for an integrated package.

I would like to find a program that would take these values

HyperFTP was a wonderful program - especially for hackers! ;?) , but I'm
not sure I'd ever say the code was straightforward and clean - but that may
be more a result of the nature of FTPing. There's a lot of code in there
that will mess up a Gopher connection, and when you make a Gopher
connection, there's some stuff you have to send back and forth between
client and server to successfully keep the connection. What you need to do
is read up on Gopher and find out how the protocol goes. You should be able
to get all the Gopher documentation you'd ever want by FTPing to the home
of gopher: "boombox.micro.umn.edu"

If I recall correctly, Gopher used to be written in HyperCard, so connect
to Boombox and look in the "gopher" subdirectory for old Mac versions of
Gopher. There was a lot of stuff in there when I glanced before writing
this. I'm pretty sure there're HyperCard versions still around (they
haven't been updated for years, probably).

About XCMDs and XFCNs, find Apple's "HyperCard MacTCP Toolkit 1.0"
somewhere and have a field day! (try "ftp.apple.com" or one of the other
Apple archives) There's most everything you'd ever need in there. You might
consider writing your Gopher app from scratch using those externals as
opposed to trying to hack HyperFTP.

Good luck.

Subject: Inverse video software for visually handicapped

Last week I posted a question for a reference to software that enables display
in inverse video. Thanks to those who responded (George Daubert and Peter
Gerhardstein)! However, the software they recommend, Apple's CloseView, does a
little bit more than black-white inversion, which spoils the result. It
produces
a heavy frame that indicates the area that would be displayed if you were to
choose for a multiplication factor. If you are visually handicapped, like the
friend I am trying to help, this useless frame on the screen is very
disturbing.
So I decided to post my question once again: I am looking for software (not
CloseView) that inverts the screen colors. If there is a (ResEdit?) hack that
disables the frame CloseView produces, we would welcome the description of that
too.

Thanks in advance!

Subject: Move Mac to New Net & Printing

All Macs running System 7.1 or System 7.1 Pro, NSI 1.4.5.

BEFORE:
We had a bunch of Mac's and a LaserWriter 630 on EtherTalk, a
GatorBox, and a bunch of Sun's that used the GatorBox LPD service
(TCP/IP BSD print service LocalTalk).
I also installed CAP on the Suns.
The EtherTalk zone was 'telecnnct'.
The LocalTalk zone was 'TeleConnect'.

AFTER:
Same Mac's, same LaserWriter, same network.
Took out the GatorBox.
Installed CAP on the Sun's.

THE PROBLEM:
The suns had no problems seeing the printer, before and after
the removal of the GatorBox (the printer and the CAP services
DID need to be restarted).

The Macs had real problems USING the printer. I restarted the
Macs, figuring they also needed to relearn the zones (with no
router, the zone reverts to '*').

Whenever I tried to 'choose' the printer, the Chooser would
say it couldn't find the printer. This happened even though
the printer NAME would appear in the Chooser select box.

The Macs could see the printer at a low level -- running
AppleTalk prober software returned the correct name and address
for the printer. The printer knew how to talk to the Macs, in
that AppleTalk echo's worked, as well.

I tried deleting the LaserWriter preferences files from the
System Folder:Preferences folder, but the Chooser still couldn't
find the printers.

Eventually, I ended up hacking (ResEdit AND WORSE!!!) the
LaserWriter and LaserWriter 8 extensions. The extensions
had the old zone ('telecnnct') coded in them!

Now everything works just fine.

THE POINT:
Have I missed something here? Have I developed a nuclear
bomb solution where a rubber hammer would have worked? SHAME
on Apple for putting a preference (the printer's zone) into
a resource! TRUE SHAME if I'm not mistaken, and you effectively
can't move a Mac to a routerless configuration!

P.S.:
I have a Duo, too, and it manages to NOT get confused when I
move it between networks...

Subject: PowerBook 180 ribbon cable

Hello,

The ribbon cable which connects the bottom part with the upper part
of my PB180 is broken. Unfortunately I am currently in Japan and I have
a hard time finding this thin 72 connector cable in Japan.
Does anybody know where to get such cable in the US or does anybody
have 4 inches of such a cable at home? I'd be most happy to buy
a piece of it.

Many thanks!!

Subject: Powerbook 500 and MIDI

Hello all,
I am currently considering purchase of a PB520c, one of the
intended uses of which is as a MIDI sequencer in live performance. I have
heard rumours that Powerbooks have problems when used for MIDI
applications. Are these rumours true, and are there ways to circumvent any
problems if any exist? I will be using Opcode Vision v2 and OMS.
I should point out I will be using mains power rather than batteries as
portability rather than lack of access to a mains socket is the main
reason for my buying a Powerbook. Sorry if this has been asked before -
I've been offline for a couple of months and haven't caught up with the
digests yet. Please reply by e-mail to the address below and I will
summarise if there is sufficient interest.

Subject: Powerbook Questions

Hello,

I intend to by myself a powerbook, probably of the new series that is PowerPC
ready. But I have a number of questions thereto:

Does anybody now, when the PowerPC upgrades will be available?
What will they cost approximately?
What clock rates will be available, and if I buy a 520 now (25mhz), to which
PowerPC clock rate will it upgrade?

Furthermore I heard that the 500series powerbooks after being upgraded work
with a
limited bus width. I how far will this reduce performance compared to a desktop
PPC and how far will this lead to software limitations?

Will the upgraded Powerbooks then already be compliant with the PREP standard?

Thanks for hints,

The problem is that HD Setup that came with your Disk Tools will not work
with non-Apple Hard Drives. Apple installs a code into their hard drives.
If this code isn't present in the hard drive, HD Setup will not find it.

I've tried twice to ftp and then download, un-binhex, and unzip the CIA
World Factbook 1993. I tried

ftp//gopher.oit.unc.edu/pub/docs/books/gutenberg/etext93/world93.zip
and...
ftp//mrcnext.cso.uiuc.edu/etext/etext93/world93.zip
(I think these are correct)

Everything went ok until I used the new StuffIt Expander w/Expander Enhancer.
As soon as the was opened, I got a message from StuffIt Exp
that the zip header was bad, or something like that, and that the operation
couldn't continue. It then proceeds to un-hex and unzip something. The result
is a World93.txt file which Word will open. Unfortunately, the file is mostly
garbled after "Austrailia". Here is a sample

Subject: Q: Creating a Font Family

Hi

Does anyone know how to create a SINGLE font family from separate
fonts? The reason I am asking this is that I have just converted over
a TrueType font from Windows (using Font Clerk) which has the
following separate font files:

Normal
Italic
Bold
Bold Italic

After putting the four font files into a font suitcase and putting
that into the System folder, the fonts show up ok but as FOUR SEPARATE
FONTS. However, I cannot find a way of putting these fonts together so
that the appropriate font is used automatically whenever the
corresponding style is in operation.

Thanks in advance

- is the RAM on the 486sx card of the same type as that on the macintosh side?
- in the future if I do not need the 486sx card, can I just remove it and use

Subject: QUESTION: Mac SE Internal Hard Disk broken

Greetings!

Problem: Turn on Mac SE w/internal 40MB hard disk. Green light goes on. No
sound (usually it makes a whir and a click or two). Eventually comes up
with an icon resembling a question mark on a disk. Green light goes off
briefly, then back on, off briefly, on for awhile, and so forth forever.
We've rebooted countless times.

The problem has been occuring off and on for months, but now it seems
permanent.

Awhile ago Paul Baim (responding to an earlier problem I had with this
machine) recommended Larry Pina's _Mac Classic & SE Repair and Upgrade
Secrets_. I've checked this book and three others at the campus store, but
to no avail. I don't want to replace the whole drive---just get this one
working. BTW, the machine will boot from a floppy disk.

Does the problem I describe above concerning the internal hard disk sound
familiar? What steps should I follow? Are there little things I could do
first to see if a small fix would make it anew again?

I'd appreciate any help any of you would be so kind to give. Please feel
free to e-mail me at [email protected].

Thanks!

I got one direct reply suggesting that WAIS searches were still possible. I
tried WAIS for Mac and indeed WAIS searching does works. More recently I've
been using Mosaic for many things and this is where I was having problems.
Using the WWW pointers via NCSA I wasn't able to connect to the necessary
host. I'm glad to see that info-mac is still searchable.

While trying to install a new program through its installer, the process
unexpectically quit (froze). After restarting my Mac SE, I found that
nothing had loaded from the program, but that the hard drive size had

Running "AutoDoubler" and that seems OK.

Hi Netters,
recently I tried to record a sound on a PowerMac 7100 (not AV) with
a microphone I had from an old Si. To my great suprise it did not work. ( I
set up Sound input to microphone, and tried recording in the AlertSounds
dialog. The record button comes up OK but the small loudspeaker does not
show input coming in like it did on the Q700) I tried on an other one, same
thing. Verified on a Q700, it worked. Am I missing something trivial, or
this is a "feature"?

Subject: Supra FaxModem 144LC / CommSwitch 330 Incompatibility

I have been using a ComSwitch 330 on my incoming telephone line; it
answers the phone silently, then rings the modem if it is a fax call or
rings the house extensions phones otherwise. This works just fine with my
Supra FaxModem v.32bis.

I replaced the v.32bis with a new Supra FaxModem 144LC. I got the
impression that it sends faxes more reliably than the v.32bis; I could
send reliably to machines I typically have trouble sending to with the
v.32bis. So, I am keen to use the 144LC.

But, the ComSwitch no longer functions; I contacted Cardinal
Communications (who sent several faxes to test and listen), they said the
switch was working correctly but the 144LC wasn't responding to the rings
it made; the ring characteristics, however, are factory-set. I contacted
Supra who assured me that the frequency of ring detected by the 144LC is
factory set and can't be changed.

I did, of course, test the modem by connecting it directly to the
telephone, without the ComSwitch.

So, I am posting this to see if anyone else has had this problem, or knows
of a work-around, or knows of a fax switch that the 144LC responds to.

Has anyone else experienced what seems like an occasional glitch
with the ADB Mouse II where the pointer sometimes continues to "glide" left
after you've moved left and stopped? I've had this happen on three or four
different mice, so I don't think it's just my mouse. Or is it... :-)

Apple has included patches to ROM routines in the system software
for years. Why would it not be possible to patch out the offending
routines as well as the older emulator?

Apple doesn't sell this adapter and doesn't know where you can get one.

Subject: WGS 9150 and Internet

Dear Info-Mac Readers:

My school is applying for a State grant that will, if approved, provide
our school district with a 56kb dedicated line, plus an Ethernet router
and a Data Service Unit (DSU). We want to connect this to an existing
Work Group Server 9150 Ethernet network having Power PC clients, plus add
a few DOS/Windozzz clients in the bargain.

It is up to us to make the Mac network TCP/IP-compatible, and to provide
SMTP mail services on the 9150. Although we plan to add native Power PC
AppleShare and PowerOpen when they become available, the latter will most
likely appear well beyond the December 31 (1994) date that we will need to
make the Internet connection (if approved).

I would appreciate reciving thoughts on how we can meet the requirements
for this connection, using our existing network, and also how best to
connect the DOS clients (they need the same Internet access as the Macs).

One final question: Given that there is no native Domain Name Server
application for the Mac operating system, and that A/UX does not run on the
Power PC WGS's, what strategy can we use for resolving Domain Names?

Best regards,

Traci J. Ingram
