Subject: [!] Super Mario Theme For Marathon Infinity!
Hello fellow Mac (and marathon or mario) lovers,
I am in the process of designing a Super Mario game to run on the Marathon
engine. If all goes well, the game should turn out great and be loads of
fun. So far here are some of my plans:
You play Mario in a first-person perspective view (like marathon).
You will be able to bash (punch) enemies such as goombas and koopas and
collect coins that they drop (like in mario 64) although the coins are
pretty much useless except to see how many you can get. coins will also be
scattered around the levels for you to collect (hmm maybe you will need a
certain # to finish the level).
Also, when you bash some enemies such as a koopa (little turtle) they will
drop their shell and allow you to pick it up.
other weapons include bombs (from walking bombs) you can chuck into rooms
and blast all the enemies, possibly a hammer, etc.
picking up a mushroom could increase your health, make you invincible,
invisible, wide range view etc.
even pick up a flying hat and fly above enemies and drop bombs on them.
cool features include:
underwater/lava fighting fish etc.
bosses to kill at the end of levels
get help from friends you free (luigi, toad, princess)
sounds pretty cool so far eh?
i hope so! i want to make this awesome.
ATTENTION:
I need assistance in making this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Most importantly right now i need good artists who can draw mario
characters and mario-style stuff. also need sounds and things. anyone who
can help will get their name mentioned on the credits page, in the readme
etc.
also even if you have some ideas! ideas are welcome.
or if you know of someone who can help me.
i am basically designing and organising this but i can't do the graphics so
help if you can.
And for those of you interrested but can't help, e-mail me for current info

The headers have nothing to do with Eudora Pro. While it does provide some
headers (the basic ones you see without looking at the extended ones), the
SMPT servers that the message goes through each add a path header. Anyone
who clicks on that little page-looking-icon in the Eudora window will see
the full headers. Every mailer allows you to see the full headers. This
would allow someone to trace where the message originated from. I heartily
question your motives on this, BUT, if it's anonymity that you want, you
have several options. You can use any of the anonymous remailers that are
out there (to find one, go to any risque newsgroup & read the messages
there, lotsa ppl use 'em there). You could also set up an email account
with Juno or WebMail.

Subject: AirDock and Global Village
Folks, I just had a problem that might be of interest to at least three
of my I-M colleagues. You may recall my snarls about Farallon's AirDock.
New software is out (1.1 at www.farallon.com), but pay no attention if
you want to run Open Transport on your host Mac. Farallon's "OT Solution"
is Apple's "LocalTalk Bridge." Yes, that is a commercial product, but
Farallon customers can download it freebies. Remove existing Farallon
products from the host Mac, install LocalTalk Bridge, set the PB for
what is called "classic AppleTalk" (Network Software Selector) and to
communicate via IRTALK (Network CP), and go for it. PB's on your net.
Well, not quite. Installing Apple's Localtalk Bridge (2.1) yielded system
death (Localtalk Bridge: bus error) upon startup. I bored myself to tears
seeing what the extension conflict was, and it turned out to be the
GlobalVillage Toolbox extension. For those of you taking notes, that came
with my GV modem and is necesary for making my computer a fax machine.
Goodwife Bloom would throttle me if she didn't have her fax. So I dropped
a note to the fine folk at GV tech support. I got a suggestion to rename
the "LoalTalk..." CP to "aLocalTalk..." to make it load first.
GV pointed me in the right direction. A simple rename to "aLocaltalk..."
didn't do it. Same game: BUS ERROR upon loading. I moved "aLocalTalk..."
into the Extensions Folder, so it would load before any GV stuff, and put
an alias in the CP Folder. Seems to work. I can link to my PB5300 via
Farallon's AirDock now, even with the host Mac running OT. I haven't seen
a fax yet, so I don't know if GV's software is affected. But I'm hopeful.

Subject: Apple Scanner photoshop plug-in?
I've recently inheritted a Apple Scanner, and got it running using
Applescan. However, I'd like to be able to to scan directly into
Photoshop. I've looked in all the usual places but can't find a plug-in.
Does one exist? Where can I get it?
Also, I could swear there was a way to scan directly to the printer (ie
use it as a photocopier), but lackinmg the manual, I can't figure out how
to do this. Nor can I discern the function of the "Remote" option on the
menu, or of the little switch on the front right of the scanner top.
Can anyone advise?

Subject: AT&T WorldNet (C)
A couple weeks back I dropped a note about AT&T's Worldnet as an ISP. I had
thought it'd be a good idea for my rather limited needs -- net connection for
the rather few times I'm on the road each year. I got the CD and booklet, I
had lots of questions, AT&T didn't respond worth a naughtyword, and I asked
y'all for your thoughts.
I got a *lot* of responses. I think I've replied to everyone. I hope so. It
gets a tad confusing twixt home and office, especially when I have the home
Eudora set to keep all mail on the server.
I only strive for perfect. I don't promise it.
I suspect I should have said up front that AOL and CompuServe were out. I
just quit CompuServe after some 15 years (I know its capabilities and its
limitations), and I have run across enough AOL messages that I tend to put in
an H and and E and a couple S's when I think of the service. No offense, but
those folk do not seem like anyone I'd like my daughter to date. And my
daughter is a long haired dachshund.
Beyond the AOL and CIS recs were a bunch of others that either had worse
service than AT&T or didn't seem to exist. Nothing like being pointed to a
web site that gives no clue as to how one might join or what one would get
from joining.
I got a couple great responses from AT&T members who answered the questions
that I had.
Yup, AT&T is as imperfect as I'd thought. The CD installs NetScape 2? Gag
me with a spoon. The "local" number is a long distance call? Yuck. I've been
doing data comm for a lot of years, I know it is one of the most complex
things one can do with any personal computer, and I will* test the puppy
before I take my PB on the road.
AT&T seems to be the least dumb of the nationwide services. I'm told that the
install cleaves itself to the modem du jour (or however it is spelled). So I
don't get to test-at-home as I wanted to: plug the PB into my external modem.
Good to know. I just ordered a PC card modem from CDW. I'll let you know how
things work out.

The MacLinkPlus Easy Open Translators, published by DataViz, Inc.,
include WordStar as one of the supported file formats. You can purchase

Subject: CPU Energy Saver won't go. Suggestions?
Hi,
I recently installed System 7.5.3 on my Performa 6200, but unfortunately
the CPU Energy Saver controlpanel fails to function. I used to run
system 7.5 (Dutch language version) where I had the Dutch language
equivalent of this control panel ("Energiestand"
. This worked quite
well.
So, I thought after a while, I'll just re-install the old version with
System 7.5.3. No go. Upgrading to 7.5.5 didn't help either. There are no
conflicts that I'm aware of (Ran Conflict Catcher, turned up nothing).
Do you guys have any idea what this can be, and how to solve it? Help
appreciated,
cheers,

Howdy mac-heads:
I was given an old Apple 14" color monitor for use as an external
for my PB 165. Problem is, after 30 minutes or so the display blinks off and
won't come back again until the machine has sat for a while and cooled down
(with the monitor power button off). I believe this is a fried transistor

Anybody have some experience fixing these things or have some input?

I'm having the same problem with my Network Control Panel. (System 7.5.5,
Workgroup Server 8550/132). My system insists on turning it invisible, and
then switching from Ethertalk to Appletalk. I can use ResEdit to turn it
visible again (try that Dennis, but if it's related to my problem, it won't
work). Open the panel, switch to Ethertalk, and reboot to effect the change.
System makes it invisible, switches back to Appletalk. I can try to install
a new Network C.P. (getting Dennis's message, unless I ResEdit it to make
it visible), but it repeats the process there. So now I have Ethertalk to
the server, but for the life of me I can't get the bloody thing to use it,
and have to run it off of Appletalk. Any ideas what to do? (The obvious:
pitch 7.5.5 and go back to some older system; but I'd rather not -- the
previous system was crashing every other day.)

How does the 120Mhz and 160 Mhz versions of the 603e chip

retaining my preference for the Mac OS for all other computing

Another question. A few years ago there was a collection of

Yes of yes. Quicktime 2.5 is definitely your problem. I experienced
similar problems with Excape Velocity (... sporadic Type 11 crashes) mostly
at the times when a game sound was about to be played. Removing the
offending QT 2.5 and reinstalling 2.1 solved my problem. To anyone wanting
to upgrade to QT2.5 I would wait on a later version.

Many thanks to Rick Holzgrafe for porting Rogue over to
the Macintosh. I've been a Rogue fan since the early 80's and have
really missed this game!
I remember spending hours in the computer lab playing Rogue 5.3 on a DEC
VAX running UNIX. Then, Rogue was released by Epyx, Inc. on the
Mac...that was a great game! Had nice graphics and you could use the
mouse to move around each level...but the graphics did not take anything
away from the game play...it had the look and feel of the original.
Alas, like many applications, Epyx's version of Rogue broke when System
7.0 was released and it was never updated.
A number of what I call "pseudo-Rogue" games have been released over the
years but none of them have captured the look and feel of the original
Rogue.
Although I've been hoping that someone would "revive" Epyx's version,
Rick Holzgrafe's port is great. Thanks, Rick!

Oh yes!! I'm using a Megaherz X-Jack XJ-CC4288 right now. As long as you have
the Apple Telecom (Disk 2 is PC Modem specific, Disk 1 Generic) software,
2.33 or later, and don't mind the lack of bundled software (Apple's fax
software seems to work), everything is hunky-dorey!!
BTW, you may want to add in &D0 (zero) into your AT&F init string, as most
Wintel machines' modems are set to &D2. Then set the rest of the string to
AT&F or AT&F1, depending on your modem, and away you go!! I find that the
telecom packages I use have an alarming habit of resetting the port to the
printer/modem port-this, then becomes the first place to look if FreePPP, for
example, throws its arms (or paws!) in the air in dismay...

You can purchase
this product through standard Mac mail order houses (in the USA,
anyway), or you can contact DataViz direct at 55 Corporate Drive,

Subject: CPU Energy Saver won't go. Suggestions?
Hi,
I recently installed System 7.5.3 on my Performa 6200, but unfortunately
the CPU Energy Saver controlpanel fails to function. I used to run
system 7.5 (Dutch language version) where I had the Dutch language
equivalent of this control panel ("Energiestand"
Help
appreciated,
cheers,
Tobias

Subject: dying 14" monitor
Howdy mac-heads:
I was given an old Apple 14" color monitor for use as an external
for my PB 165. Problem is, after 30 minutes or so the display blinks off and
won't come back again until the machine has sat for a while and cooled down
(with the monitor power button off). I believe this is a fried transistor
that is dying when hot & choking current off. Problem is, I'm an electrical
idiot. I took the monitor apart but saw no obvious crispies...
Anybody have some experience fixing these things or have some input?
I'm in Germany and service centers for Macs are, well, nonexistant.

Subject: MacTCP starting when unwanted
After disconnecting from my ISP I frequently find that MacTCP will try to
connect again a few minutes later. This is very annoying especially when it
happens while the Mac is unattended. Is there any way to prevent this?
The system is an LC with 10MB ram, System 7.5.3, MacTCP 2.06, FreePPP 2.5. I
usually disconnect using the "PPP disconnect" menu option of the FreePPP
"phoneicon" menu. I would like to use OT but can't with the LC's 68020.

I can't comment on why this didn't happen to you previously, but my

Subject: Performance question
Greetings.
I'm contemplating buying a new Mac (Performa 4400).
How does the 120Mhz and 160 Mhz versions of the 603e chip
compare to Intel chips. The performace I'm looking for is
to run educational stuff from CD under Soft Windows, but still
retaining my preference for the Mac OS for all other computing
needs.
Another question. A few years ago there was a collection of
sounds from the Star Trek series in the INFO-MAC archive which
have now been removed. I think there were a couple of files of
sounds. Could anybody point me a direction to where these files
might be?
Many Thanks

Subject: Rogue is BACK!!

I've tried Hidden Finder Features and Finder Options, and I still don't get
translucent dragging when their settings for disabling translucent dragging

translucent dragging was a part of the system software some time ago.

>>
Hi Mac Folks,
I am in the market for a PC Modem Card for my PB190. I have noticed a
large price difference between the Windows vs Mac modem cards.
Is it possible to use a Windows PCMCI Modem Card in a Mac PB190? I guess
that most PCMCI cards would be Hayes Command Set Compatible and therefor
be able to use general terminal software like z-term, etc?
Has anyone use a Windows PCMCI Modem Card in their PB?
>>
