Subject: [*] 68K ODBC Bridge

68K ODBC Bridge makes it possible to use 68K ODBC drivers with PowerPC
ODBC applications, something that is normally impossible.

It has been tested with several PPC ODBC applications and 68K ODBC
drivers, and should really be compatible with all.

It requires a PowerMac with both ODBC architectures installed.
68K ODBC Bridge is $15 shareware.

Subject: [*] Africa Notebook (color Hypercard application)

AFRICA NOTEBOOK, a full-color HyperCard application (self-running), can be
your own "already started" database on the subject of Africa. It is intended
to help improve and store your knowledge of Africa by providing a space to
enter notes, associate information visually to a map, and a quiz to test
recall of country name, capital and head of state. The large color map of the
continent can be scrolled in a large or small window, corresponding in
real-time to a small monochrome map with labels/buttons. All information
(except the country name and the map) can be updated or edited by you. There
is also a stack version (requires Hypercard 2.0 or later) available at the
AOL Mac archive and at http://gramercy.ios.com/~mbecher/Maxworks.html.

Subject: [*] Airport IDs 2.3b

** UPDATE **
Version 2.3 adds the following:
1. Calculates air distance between locations that have Lat/Long
information (many requests for this one)
2. Checks for datafile sent from finder (if you double-click the
datafile instead of the app)
3. Miscellaneous other stuff
(2.3a)
4. Adds 'Register' program to facilitate registering Airport IDs
5. Adds the MINWINDOW command to stick the window to the minimum size
when dragging.

Bundled with the application are the following files:
1. Airport IDs (3-letter)
2. Airline IDs (2-letter and 3-letter)
3. ATA Codes
4. Telephone Area Codes (US/Canada)

A 4-letter Airport ID datafile is available for separate download since
it is quite hefty (over 6600 records).

If you cannot locate a datafile that you want please check out:
http://www.netten.net/~montylee/AirportInfo.html

** OVERVIEW **
Airport IDs is a neat little utility that allows you to search for
Airport/City locations by name or ID code. It returns all records that
match your criteria (truncates list if over 32K characters). Registered
users can display the location on a world map and export/import the
database to make modifications/corrections as they desire.

Thank you to users who have previously registered Airport IDs; you do
not need to register this new version. The registration cost is only $7
(free for FedEx employees) so please register if you decide to keep this
program. Site licenses are available.

Version 2.3.3 is a bugfix release. The following changes or fixes have been
made since version 2.3.1.

* Fixed a problem with some mouse clicks or keystrokes being processed

busy with a network operation).
* Added a work-around for the buggy, non-compliant Microsoft news server
that responds incorrectly to the XOVER command used to fetch headers.

Subject: [*] CatFinder 2.0.3

CatFinder is a powerful disk management tool that catalogs your disks and
provides an intuitive Finder-like interface for browsing the catalogs.
Floppies, hard disks, CD ROMs, any disk can be cataloged. Once a disk is
cataloged you can quickly and easily browse it's contents without having
the disk mounted. CatFinder also offers powerful find and report
features that will help you find and organize your files.

Version 2.0.3 contains bug fixes.

Version 2.0 includes major functional enhancements including:

1. Drag and drop cataloging: Simply drag a disk icon onto the CatFinder
icon and it will be cataloged.
2. File and disk icons: CatFinder's views have a new look. CatFinder
will look up and display the appropriate icons for files. The icon that
CatFinder displays to represent a disk now reflects the type of disk.
3. Adjustable fonts: The fonts used in views and reports are adjustable.
4. More file and disk information: CatFinder catalogs and displays more
file information. You can now view, find, and report on file name, size,
type, kind, creator, label, creation date, and modification date.
5. More powerful find: The find feature has been significantly expanded
to allow for more complex searches.
6. Catalog reports: A new report called the "Catalog Report" has been
added. This generates a report on the disks that you have cataloged
including the disk name, size, free space, type, creation date,
modification date, number of files, and number of folders.
7. Reports on folders: File reports can now be generated on individual
folders as well as entire disks.
8. "Info" command: A command called "Info" has been added to the File
menu. This command is similar to the Finders "Get Info" command. "Info"
will display details about disks, files, and folders that you have
cataloged.

Subject: [*] Coloring Book 3.2, Childrens Educational Software, game, multim

Coloring Book 3.2 is an upgrade to the very popular Coloring Book 3.0.
Now in 3.2 children can paste in their own draw style graphics and color
their own pictures. Animation is automatically added to randomly
selected objects in the child's drawing.

Coloring Book 3.2 is a multimedia activity book for pre-K to elementary
level children. Coloring Book goes far beyond the typical coloring
program to include many surprising and fun animations and sound effects.
Coloring Book offers many avenues for creative play. Version 3.0 earned
rave reviews from BMUG, The Washington Apple Pi, and most importantly
delighted parents, grandparents and children. Version 3.0 now uses the
Mac Speech Manager to add personalized encouragements and greetings to
many of the pages. Coloring Book 3.2 now has Story Pages in which short
stories are presented to the children a line at a time in scrambled
form. The children point and click to read the words and unscramble the
story. Older children and adults can create new stories to be presented
in the interactive scrambled form. Coloring Book is now Modular. The base
program has lots to do and stands alone, but it may be easily enhanced
with add on New Pages Modules.

Subject: [*] FindFile Chooser 1.0.1

Under system 7.5, when the user chooses " Find..." command from the " File"
menu, the Finder launches an application called " FindFile" instead of
searching by itself. This is done with help of FindFile Extension. This is
a good idea, because it extends the Mac's file-searching ability.

The default application " FindFile" is not so bad. You can also find many
other great software for file searching, like File Buddy(tm), for instance.
This application has much more powerful file searching options. Moreover,
you can search files not only by using its file information, but also its
content - cool! There are lots of other finder applications. But how do
you switch between numerous file-searching applications without fuss?

Enter FindFile Chooser. It is a control panel enabling you to choose
between favorite find applications using the Finder's " Find..." command.

NOTE: File Buddy(tm) is a shareware written by Laurence Harris. It has many
other functions besides powerful file searching. You can find the latest
version of File Buddy(tm) in major file archives.

Flame - 0.9

-----
This is a very simple set of subprograms that will allow you to create flame
effects. What more can I say, it lets you burn things.
---
Plans for the future:

- Work in other other color types then just 8-bit indexed
- A sin wave variation on the flame path
- Some assembly to speed up key parts
- Just make it faster
- Burn down a building
---
Legal junk
I coded this as a practice, and also because I like to burn things.
All I really want is a nice mention in any program that you use this
in, and maybe a nice e-mail, that I can burn.

Subject: [*] gxMaker 1.0

gxMaker is a shareware application that can read any portable EPS file
(encapsulated PostScript=AE file) and convert it into a Macintosh=AE
QuickDraw GX file, suitable for editing with any QuickDraw GX-enabled
drawing application. An additional option permits the creation of
GX-enhanced PICT files, which can be opened and displayed by any
application capable of displaying standard PICT files, as long as
QuickDraw GX (version 1.1 or later) and QuickTime are installed.
GX-enhanced PICT files are superior to standard PICT files in several
ways, the most important being that they are truly
resolution-independent. gxMaker also is capable of converting
multi-page PostScript Level 1files into QuickDraw GX Portable Digital
Documents (PDDs), provided the GX printing services are available (see
System Requirements below).

gxMaker requires a Macintosh computer with a 68020 or later processor
(including PowerPC) running Mac=99OS 7.5 (or later) and QuickDraw GX
(1.1 or later recommended). gxMaker also will run fine when Apple's
GXGraphics system extension is installed. The GXGraphics system
extension enables the graphics services of QuickDraw GX without any of
the corresponding printing services. gxMaker disables its PDD
generation feature if it detects that the GX printing services are not
available. Therefore, you must install the full QuickDraw GX package
if you wish to use gxMaker to create portable digital documents.
QuickTime is required for the generation of GX-enhanced PICT files. If
gxMaker detects that QuickTime is not installed, it will disable this
feature. Finally, on systems where the full GX package is not
installed, both QuickTime 2.1 or later and GXGraphics are required to
view GX-enhanced PICT files in non-GX-savvy applications.

Have you ever received a phone message and not known if it's still "business
hours" where the call came from? Or planned to call your nephew in Harare
and not
known if he would be awake yet?

PhoneCodes/TimeZones is an update to my previous Area Codes/Time Zones. It is a
DocMaker stand-alone application which provides all kinds of useful
information.
It lets you pinpoint where an area code or country code is located and what
time
it is there. Conversely, it lets you look up area codes for major cities in the
US and Canada and international country codes for all the countries in the
world.

Version 3.3 is an interim release which is up-to-date on the latest Area Code
additions. Look for version 4.0 coming soon with detailed world Daylight
Savings
Time information.

The reference ftp site for the latest released version is:
ftp://ftp.antigone.com/pub/pctz/

New in version 3.3:
- Changes to country codes for many Carribean countries
- Added many new Area Codes (240 248 253 264 268 284 345 425 440 443 473 530

Future plans:

- More exact daylight savings time information
- City codes for countries which require them

The answer to WHY is simple...Because it's MEANT to. This is considered a
feature, and a very welcome one at that for me. This way, I don't get the
(1/3) from messages like the IM that are too long.

Try going to the Special menu, & selecting Settings. Then click on the
Attachments icon. You can then uncheck the "receive mime digests as
attachments".

OR!!

You can still keep them as they are & put then in the "internet mail"
folder of Easy View instead of the InfoMac Digest Folder. Easy View can use
them exactly as it did before in the new format too :).

Hope this helps,

this System please upgrade to a later system. I tried reinstalling the

then the message.
Looking at the systems the one I'm running now says System Z-7.0.1 while
the installer disks are Z-7.0. I assume as I'm running the Tuner that
that's responsible for the difference,
BTW I get the same message when trying to use the Norton emergancy disk as
well.
plese e-mail if you have any ideas on whats going on. I will repost any

Both Anarchie and geturl (for BBEdit & EasyView) are designed to be able to
handle InfoMac attachment lines as URL's. When they see /infomac/ (which
they all start with) they use the I-M mirror that's designated in
InternetConfig. This should help satisfy your need for the actual URL
(since it still allows them to let individuals choose their mirror).

If I'm not mistaken, 7.1.1 was the first system usable by the PowerMacs,
and 7.1.2 was the system 7 Pro. Either way, the actual system is the same
between system 7.1 and system 7 Pro. The only thing that changes is that
system 7 Pro uses the scriptable finder (version 7.1.3? I think). With
that, you can use Mac Drag & Drop, the Clipping extension & the dragging
enabler. Without that finder, you can still use Mac Drag & Drop, but not
the other two. This allows you to use D&D features within a particular app,
but separate apps cannot communicate with each other. Personally, I use
system 7.1 with finder 7.1.3, the whole Mac D&D package, sticky notes &
desktop strip. This gives me all the functionality that I wanted out of
system 7.5.x, but still gives me a (for the most part) crash-free system
and a much smaller system, so that I can use more RAM for my real work.
Unfortunately, I don't remember where/when my finder became updated :(.

Sorry I culdn't be of more assistance,

Subject: PB5300 volume locked problem

Hi all you Mac wizards out there. I'm hoping someone can help me on this
one. Here's the details:

PowerBook 5300c - System 7.5.5 - Open Transport 1.1.1
After a Type 11 crash while running Netscape 3.0, the icon for my U.S.
Robotics Megahertz Cruisecard disappeared off my desktop. After ejecting
the card and trying to put it back in, my Mac tells me that "this disk
can't be recognized". So I run Disk First Aid and get the following info:
"Problem: Invalid directory valence, 2, 1444
Rechecking volume info.
Checking for locked volume name.
Rechecking catalog file."

Next I run MacTools Pro 4.0 and am told that I have a damaged folder (it
would be nice if it told me which one!). To fix the damage, I'm told, I
need to boot from another disk. The PB5300 can't use the Ram Disk feature
of MacTools for rebooting, so I figure I'll reboot from the Emergency
Disktools disk. When I do this, however, and then try to open MacTools
again to repair the problem, it tells me it can't open the application
because the "volume is locked". I check everything I can and don't find
anything locked. I also reinstalled the modem software and rebuilt the
desktop and zapped the pram. So now I'm at a brick wall. Everything else
seems to work OK but obviously I need to get this fixed and I'm worried
about further corruption. Neither Apple nor my dealer could provide any
useful help over the phone.

For the sake of speed, if you can help please email me directly
([email protected]) and I'll summarize for the list. Thanks.

It could be, and if so it's most likely a SCSI cable and/or termination
problem. Disconnect any external SCSI devices and see if it goes away.
The easiest solution for most external SCSI glitches is buying an APS
SCSI Sentry II active terminator (or using one of APS's drives, which
have one built in).

How about your extensions, though? Start by disabling anything with the
words "Now" or "Doubler" in their names. (Just imagine: a Hollywood
horror spectacular called "Revenge of NowDoubler.") Then experiment with
removing anything else that alters the way the interface works,
especially Aaron and his cousins. Use the Finder Heap Fix patch.

I don't think it will fix your Netscape problem, but you should try
OT/PPP instead of FreePPP or MacPPP.

On my 6100 with 7.5.5, OT 1.1.1, and OT/PPP 1.0, nothing ever crashes
anymore. I use Netscape 3.0 all day long without a bobble. Make sure you
give Netscape 9 MB in Get Info, or more if you use any plug-ins.

Re: The Complete Page Sanner

I know this is a shot in the dark, but has anyone ever heard of this beast?
It's a form fed scanner for the Macintosh that hooks up to the SCSI chain,
much like a ScanMan. It says it requires Apple System 5.0 or later, and
I'm pretty sure 7.6 is later :-)

I have a generic Apple scanner driver that has a setting for "the complete
hand scanner," but this doesn't seem to work. If I hookup the scanner to
the scsi ports, SCSI probe does see there's a device there. The scanner
appears to work. It recognizes paper, if feeds, the lights seem to have an
effect, etc.
