Subject: [*] BankUpInstall 1.1
BankUp lets customers easily manage their financial stuff with German
banks through the German T-Online service. All the transactions can be
prepared offline and are then sent by means of T-Online directly to the
bank computers and executed there immediately. BankUp at the moment
knows the procedures of about 1600 banks and more are to come in the
nearest future. Since the software is not based on scripts, but modular
written code, it is very flexible and prepared for future home banking
standards. Everybody who wants to get the most out of his/her German
bank account should give BankUp a try. It's shareware (30 DM) and uses a
technology called OpenBank=AE, another product of Hartwerk GmbH, Berlin,
Germany. OpenBank=AE is a component software, that makes
telebanking-functionality available to other programs and is 49 DM per
banking account.
More information on BankUp and OpenBank are available online at:
Mit BankUp koennen Sie kinderleicht =DCberweisungen, Lastschriften,
Bankverbindungen und Kontoauszuege managen und diese Transaktionen und
Umsatzabfragen automatisch ueber T-Online (sprich: BTX) abwickeln
lassen. Die Transaktionen koennen natuerlich offline vorbereitet und
dann in einem Schub erledigt werden. Auch Abwicklung ueber DTA ist
moeglich. BankUp verwendet dazu die ebenfalls neue Systemerweiterung
"OpenBank=AE".
- man braucht keine Filemaker-Runtime!
- Schluss mit sicherheitskritischen Skriptdateien!
Stattdessen: pure Code-(Warrior)-Plug-ins!

Deep below the surface of the earth, deeper even then the belly of hell,
the citizens of Trollsville were in a state of emergency. A massive
earthquake had just ripped open a passage from the earth's crust all the

for pain and rock solid craniums, Grag and Thog made their way to
Surfaceville...
Bonkheads is a one or two player/simultaneous arcade game. This demo
contains 18 of the total 144 levels and 3 of the 12 Underworlds.

Subject: [*] Diet Master 2.0
This version provides several new features. A Recommended Daily
Allowance calculator, a HELP page, and a REMOVE FOOD mechanism. The RDA
calculator of course calculates the RDA for various nutrients. The help
page has a key for the abreviations found in the food database as well
as a Program Guide. The Remove Food mechanism provides a way to remove
foods from the daily intake list that have been added in error. The main
screen color has been changed to make it easier to view.
My goal in creating this program was to provide quality software at a
good price. Without a doubt, this goal has been accompolished. Most of
the nutrition programs available either do not have a database as
extensive or they are well above $100 in price. Register and you will
recieve a quality product and excellent customer service.
Diet Master 1.0 has a database of over 5,000 foods. It will analyze your
intake of 19 different nutrients fat, carbohydrates, protein,
alcohol,fiber,cholesterol, saturated fat, monounsaturated fat,
polyunsaturated fat, calcium, phosphorous, iron, sodium, potassium,
Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, and total daily
calories. Use it to plan the days diet or analyze foods already eaten.
Other features
* Pie chart breakdown of Macro nutrients
* Create a custom food list that contains foods that you eat most often.
* Easily add additional foods to the food database.
* Quickly navagate through our extensive food database
* Print and save nutritional analysis.
* Register and we will send you "The Metabolizer" a unique program that
calculates the number of calories you burn per day. It will also tell
you how many calories you need to eat daily to reach a certain body
weight in a specified period of time.
Register Now!!!!
Enjoy!

Subject: [*] DiskSurveyor 1.1 FAT - New Name; Same Handy Disk Mapping Utility
Note: To anyone who downloaded Disk Mapper 1.0, 1.0.1 or 1.0.1 PPC: please
replace it with this version of DiskSurveyor 1.1 FAT. See comments below.
Do these scenarios sound familiar?
- You're getting ready to install that new software you just bought, or
you're trying to download a large file from your favorite cyberspace place
and you find there's not enough room on your hard drive...
- Or you're looking at your stack of CDROMs trying to remember which one
had that file you've been looking for...
Well, DiskSurveyor doesn't promise to make your hard drive any bigger, but
it does show you, GRAPHICALLY, what or who's hogging all that space. Click
on a folder and zoom in for a closer look. Or zoom back out. And with the
press of a key, you can create text files that list all the files found on
CDROMs or any other volume. No longer will you have to waste valuable time
navigating through folder after folder trying to figure out which files
need to be archived or trashed to free up precious disk space.
DiskSurveyor requires System 7 or greater and at least 256 colors (or
shades of gray) are recommended.
DiskSurveyor. An exciting new way to look at your hard drive and CDROMs.
Shareware $5 (US)
Here's what some happy users are saying about DiskSurveyor --
"Great Idea!!! Sent $10.00 - it's worth more than $5.00" - Bob S., Florida
"...I really like the design of the application! The graphical display is,
to my mind, brilliant in its simplicity and resulting usefulness."
- Glenn C., California
Version 1.1 - Oct 16, 1996
-Name change. Apparently another company has the rights to the name
'DiskMapper' for their product which runs under Windows. (However, that
product functions substantially different than this one, even if it does
'map' the 'disk'. So much for what I thought was the perfect name for this
application. C'est la vie.)
-Fixed problem with preferences file when running the application from a
volume that wasn't the Startup Disk.

Subject: [*] Escape Velocity 1.0.3
Check your calendar: It's 2246, and the galaxy just isn't what it used to
be. Spacefaring pirates roam free, civil war rages, and simple traders
cheat death to make a living. Welcome to life in the 23rd century!
Ambrosia Software's Escape Velocity puts you smack-dab in the middle of
that booming galaxy. As the captain of a shiny new spacecraft, you make
your fortune and build your empire. If that sounds like a walk in the
park, you're in for a surprise - dangers abound! Your lowly shuttle
craft will need more than a little luck to make a profit... and survive.
Lovingly hand-crafted by programmer Matt Burch, Escape Velocity offers a
rich and open-ended environment that evolves as you play. Over a hundred
worlds occupy the galaxy, each with its own technology, alliances, and
commodities. As you earn credits and gain fame, Confederation peace
keepers and Rebel patriots struggle for power, leaving you in the middle.
Escape Velocity spans a number of genres, combining elements of classic
"trading" games, arcade space shoot-outs, and strategy simulations.
Whether you choose to build a trading empire, aid the Rebellion in a
civil war, or strike out on your own as a ruthless pirate, Escape
Velocity provides a multitude of options for the game connoisseur. This
open-ended gameplay allows each player to chart their own course as they
play; there's no "right" way to play Escape Velocity, as long as you have
fun!
Numerous sub-plots fill Escape Velocity's world; your choices affect the
story's development, guaranteeing that each game will be different from
the last. You'll have the opportunity to infiltrate hostile military
bases, ferry emergency supplies to distant star systems, rescue
passengers from stranded cruise ships, stop alien invaders, and more. In
addition, Escape Velocity sports an open game engine. Future scenario
designers will be able to create their own worlds for other players to
explore...
Escape Velocity runs on any Mac with a 640x480 color monitor and 5.8
megabytes of free RAM. Optimized for the PowerMac, it's lickety-split
smooth on Apple's latest iron. And of course, Escape Velocity has the
dazzling 3D rendered graphics, full stereo sound, and all the polish that
you'd expect of an Ambrosia game.

Ambrosia Software, Inc. has just released an Escape Velocity 1.0.3
Updater. This updater only works if you already have an earlier version

to download the complete Escape Velocity 1.0.3 package.
This updater brings Escape Velocity up to Escape Velocity 1.0.3, the
latest version which contains a number of bug fixes and adds a few
features. All of the files in the Escape Velocity 1.0.3 Update should be

Subject: [*] Finder Windows 1.1.3J - Japanese Version
This is the Japanese version of the Finder Windows control panel package.
Finder Windows is a control panel that adds a "Window" menu to the Finder.
The new "Window" menu gives a list of all the currently open windows in the
Finder (including the quasi-window "Desktop"). If you choose a window name
>From the list in the menu, the corresponding window in the Finder is
brought to the front. You can also stack windows by choosing "Stack" or
typing command-S, and you can arrange windows (space them out) by choosing
"Arrange" or typing command-T.
I have always wished that Apple's Finder had a simple Window menu like most
other applications. Sometimes my desktop gets very cluttered and I want to
find a window that's under a bunch of other windows without having to move
them all around. That's why I wrote Finder Windows. If you have had similar
problems, I hope you find that Finder Windows helps solve them.
I added the ability to "Stack" and "Arrange" windows to improve window
organization. "Stack" puts all the windows in a nicely ordered stack, while
"Arrange" spaces them out on the desktop as much as possible. By opening
the Finder Windows control panel, you can change what the command-key
equivalents of "Stack" and "Arrange" are. By default, they are set to
command-S for "Stack" and command-T for "Arrange".

Subject: [*] FixGamma: A bugfix for the 660av/840av
FixGamma: A program to fix a bug in the Quadra 660av and 840av
The technique known as "Gamma Correction" was designed to ensure
accurate color on monitors, and at first it was used solely for that
purpose. More recently, however, programmers have started using the gamma
correction facilities of the Mac to create novel effects, such as fade-ins
and fade-outs, simple screen savers, color effects in games, and filter
previews in image editing applications.
Unfortunately, the Quadra 660av and 840av have a bug which prevents
these effects from working under certain conditions. When you drop this
simple application into the Startup Items folder, it will run at startup
and ensure that gamma changes will work properly thereafter. Further
discussion of gamma correction and the bug can be found in the ReadMe file.
FixGamma is freeware. Enjoy.

Subject: [*] Font Gander 1.0.5
Font Gander is small, simple application which lets you view fonts
without having to install them. Also prints beautiful specimen sheets.
Works with Adobe Type Manager 3.0 and above to allow high-rez imaging
of Type-1 fonts. Best used as a "drag-and-drop" application.
v1.0.5 addresses some stubborn issues of compatibility with various
printers. Also speeds up printing of installed fonts by using
conventional print architecture, and takes advantage of printer-resident
outline fonts when appropriate. Better coordination with the Macintosh
print manager improves all-round performance.
System requirements:
* System 7.0 or higher.
* Any PowerMac or any Macintosh with a 68020 processor or higher.
* Works best with Macintosh Drag and Drop installed (standard in System
7.5).

Subject: [*] Frank's Color Filters
This package contains three Photoshop filters, which are grouped
together under a sub-menu of the filter menu labeled "Color".
Remove Color simply removes the color from the selection.
This has the same effect on a selection as converting the
entire image to grayscale, but without changing the color depth.
This allows you to create that commonly used effect of having most
everything in an image in black and white, but retaining color
for an item of interest.
Change Color changes the color of the selection to the currently
selected foreground color.

Glidel 3.0JP original by Gilles Berkovitch
* Localized for Japanese Macintosh community with permission from
the author of the original
* Requires Japanese system (either KanjiTalk or Japanese Language Kit)
* Provided "as is" with no warranty whatsoever
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Glidel is a system extension that extends the Finder's drag-and-drop
abilities within System 7. You can select any icon currently visible,
either on your Desktop or in an open folder, and drag it to:
* The Open, Print, Get Info, Sharing..., Duplicate, Make Alias, Put Away
options (and Reveal Original starting with system 7.5) on the File menu;
* Any application or folder in the Apple menu, including those accessible
via a third-party hierarchical menu utility such as BeHierarchic, NowMenus,
HAM, or OtherMenus;
* Any currently running application, via the Application menu on the
right-hand side of the menu bar.
[Requirements]
Glidel operates with any version of System 7.
However, some problems are known to occur with Finder 7.1.1 as delivered on
certain Powerbooks.

Subject: [*] IntelliAlias v1.0b0
IntelliAlias is a simple solution to a simple, yet annoying problem with
aliases on the mac. When you create an alias to an application, you can't
set the size preferences of the alias. This means that to have various
size setups for a certain program, you need several copies of the program.
This is obviously not ideal. IntelliAlias solves this problem. The
IntelliAlias program is only 7k in size, so it is around the same size on
your hard disk as any other alias.

Subject: [*] Interpolation Tools v1.2
Included is Interpolation Tools v1.2. It replaces version v1.1 in the sci
directory, adding support for X and Y data in different places.
Interpolation Tools contain cubic and linear interpolation routines
as an Excel5 for Power Macintosh add-in. You require a Power Macintosh.
They are native PPC code in CFM libraries.
The tools also have "accelerated code resources" for people using
Excel4 on a Power Macintosh, however there is no automatic add-in support.
See the read-me for manual registration instructions.
Interpolation Tools are fast. They're $10 US shareware.

Subject: [*] MicNotePad Lite 3.7.8
Version 3.7.8 improves the display of some important dialog boxes.
MicNotePad is an easy to use, enhanced, digital tape recorder. Its
significant features are: It also is a transcriber. It works. It is easy
to use. It works in the background. It uses only half a megabyte of RAM.
70 pages on-screen user guide are built in.
MicNotePad is being used for dictation, transcription, and archiving.
MicNotePad is being used to record test flights, interviews, lectures,
meetings, performances, and kids.
To fully explore MicNotePad, switch to both Large View and Full Menus. In
spite of its ease of use and reliability, MicNotePad's long list of
features include superior sound quality, yet one hour fits into only 14MB,
adjustable sound formats, optional automatic playback, rewinding, and
locking, unique markers, sound check, adjustable sound input gain level,
adjustable key combinations, adjustable playback speed while keeping
original pitch, notification, selection of sound input device, AppleScript
scriptability, drag and drop onto email messages, playback of many aif, au,
wav, and system sound files, some optimization to allow transfer from and
to audio tapes, compatibility with global search engines, totally
transparent compatibility across the hardware platform from the PowerBook
140 to the Power Macintosh 9500. It even allows to use regular external
microphones with the PowerBook 5300 series without using any hardware
adapters.
Balloon Help often clarifies when minor features are not available on
specific Macintosh models and describes some more power features.
MicNotePad is a speech product that is well integrated into the word
processing paradigm. Other than most other speech products, it works for
any language, accent, number of speakers, background noise, or topic.
Beyond uses in journalism, legal and medical transcription, and higher
education, it also serves well in language study, speech therapy, with
attention deficit disorder, and for creative writing.
Limitations: This free MicNotePad Lite 3.7.8 does not function in Japan.
Also, for any Mac model that will be introduced after summer of 1996 you
might have to come back for a newer version. If that occurs, then it is
obvious immediately, and you can send an e-mail to the authors to
accelerate development of a new version (your vote for the budget). The
authors hope to remove such limitations upon clearance of certain
contractual issues sometime soon.

Subject: [*] Missions of the Reliant v2.2
So, you think you have what it takes to be a starship captain?
Missions of the Reliant v2.2, a zippy shareware game for the Mac, has
finally arrived! Missions was first released in 1994 and received Honorable
Mention for Best New Shareware Game of 1994 at the MacWorld Expo in Boston.
Since then, I have worked long and hard to produce version 2, which
contains new missions (3 in all), new features, new enemies, and overall
improved game play.
Missions is a game that combines the swift action of an arcade game with
the challenge of commanding a ship and its crew into battle. Unlike many
action games, Missions is more than a shoot-em-up; it requires careful
strategy, interaction with your crew members, and the skill necessary to
juggle the ship and its crew when confronted by a sudden, fierce attack by
the enemy.
Missions uses three-dimensional objects rendered in 256 colors for a more
realistic look, and achieves smooth animation through the use of Ingemar
Ragnemalm's Sprite Animation Toolkit, an excellent programmer's library for
making sprite-based animation which is available on the Internet. Also, it
employs a unique "jigsaw puzzle" approach to create hundreds of different
crew members for each game.
System requirements:
* System 7.x
* Macintosh with at least 3.5 MB of free RAM
* A 13" or larger monitor with 256 colors
* 3.3 MB of hard drive space
Missions of the Reliant v2.2 is shareware. Unregistered users may play only
one of the three available missions. Registration costs US$20 and can be
done instantaneously while-you-wait using Release Software's embedded
SalesAgent registration system. Once you register, all three missions will
be available.
For those of you who downloaded previous versions (including v2.0.x),
please download this new version, which reflects changes in my association
with various software distributors.

Requirements: PowerPC Mac, System 7, at least 256 colors, 2MB of free
memory.
This is the first public release of Orbimania (version 1.1). Orbimania
1.1 is freeware. It's a fascinating graphical plaything and
educational.
Orbimania simulates the N-body problem in 2 dimensions with
inverse-square forces. The remarkable feature of Orbimania is its fast
graphics -- it displays the potential field in real time. Even
non-technical users may find it interesting to play with the images of
the potential field. Furthermore, the graphical user interface allows
you to twiddle physical parameters without entering numbers. Even
children may find Orbimania amusing without understanding the physics.

Subject: [*] Scrippy BBEdit Extension
Scrippy is a BBEdit extension that will compile and run AppleScript. In
the spirit of 'bare bones' it isn't fancy but it gets the job done.
When you activate Scrippy it will retrieve the front most window's text,
compile it, and run it. If the text doesn't compile then Scrippy will
inform you and change the BBEdit selection to indicate where the problem
is.
Scrippy is pretty quick, except for the first time you run it. The
first time Scrippy needs to link up with AppleScript and that takes a
just a little while. After that initial run you will find Scrippy to be
as quick and responsive as a dog looking for that treat at the end of a
trick.
Scrippy is free. It is a tool I developed for my own use and thought
that other BBEdit users might like it. If you have any thoughts about
Scrippy you can reach me at the address below.

Subject: [*] Silver Two-Tab Copland Folders
The "Silver Two-Tab Copland Folders" is a set of ResEdit resources and
a few ready made folders to enhance the look of your Macintosh. The
ResEdit resources are designed to replace the 'factory' installed Blue
folders with Silver Two-Tab Copland style folders. The included 'ready
made' folders are designed to enhance the effect by enabling you to place
custom folders onto those folders that normally do not have a custom icon
in your System Folder.
Included in the archive is a "Folder Icon Maker" (version 1.5 or
better) resource file so you can get started making your own Silver
Two-Tab Copland custom folders right away.
This set works best with System 7.5 or later, but can be used with
System 7.0 and above (some resources will need to be edited out for
Systems prior to 7.5.)

Subject: [*] SiteCheck Demo
SiteCheck is a Macintosh application that provides a fast and convenient
way to check all the hypertext links at your Web site. This allows any Web
server administrator to validate internal and external links at their
entire Web site, without having to manually click on each link. Using the
URL for your site's 'home' page, SiteCheck recursively works its way
through all the pages at your site that are directly or indirectly
referenced from the home page. Links to pages outside your site are checked
as well. A list of links that do not reference a valid page is returned
within the results window. Unlike other administration utilities, SiteCheck
examines a site remotely via TCP. Webmasters now have the ability to check
their Web site completely, and as often as they wish.
The demo does not recurse your entire site - It only verifies the page you
point it to and all its links.

Florian
[This is something we have thought to do for a while, and we are still
planing on it---Gordon]
Don't do it!!! The Info-Mac platform is excellent as is. The free
exchange of fresh ideas, selflessly given advice , help and tips; would be
seriously undermined under most any other platform.
Although I can sympathize with Florian's plight re the high cost of
on-line time, I feel that in the majority of cases it is a form of
selfishness that would cause others to seek a separation of the
shareware/freeware/demo submissions from the Q.A. submissions.
Those who offer so much assistance to us clutzes often go far out
of their way to be helpful and no doubt sometimes end up regretting the
amount of time it consumed. They are great people. They would be closer
to saints if they had to subscribe to, download and read, a separate
entity; containing only pleas for help; and then take the types of action
they now do.
The existing format is good. Every person has reason to peruse each
article to see if it is relevent to themselves and to act accordingly.
Those who's sole interest is new share/freeware probably also wouldn't go
to the time, effort, trouble or expense of registering it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! John

Subject: [*] BankUpInstall 1.1
BankUp lets customers easily manage their financial stuff with German
banks through the German T-Online service. All the transactions can be
prepared offline and are then sent by means of T-Online directly to the
bank computers and executed there immediately. BankUp at the moment
knows the procedures of about 1600 banks and more are to come in the
nearest future. Since the software is not based on scripts, but modular
written code, it is very flexible and prepared for future home banking
standards. Everybody who wants to get the most out of his/her German
bank account should give BankUp a try. It's shareware (30 DM) and uses a
technology called OpenBank=AE, another product of Hartwerk GmbH, Berlin,
Germany. OpenBank=AE is a component software, that makes
telebanking-functionality available to other programs and is 49 DM per
banking account.
More information on BankUp and OpenBank are available online at:
Mit BankUp koennen Sie kinderleicht =DCberweisungen, Lastschriften,
Bankverbindungen und Kontoauszuege managen und diese Transaktionen und
Umsatzabfragen automatisch ueber T-Online (sprich: BTX) abwickeln
lassen. Die Transaktionen koennen natuerlich offline vorbereitet und
dann in einem Schub erledigt werden. Auch Abwicklung ueber DTA ist
moeglich. BankUp verwendet dazu die ebenfalls neue Systemerweiterung
"OpenBank=AE".
- man braucht keine Filemaker-Runtime!
- Schluss mit sicherheitskritischen Skriptdateien!
Stattdessen: pure Code-(Warrior)-Plug-ins!
Derzeit werden fast alle Sparkassen und groesseren Banken in Deutschland
unterstuetzt, Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken werden wir in Kuerze separat
uploaden.
BankUp ist Shareware und kostet 30 DM. Dazu kommen nur 49 DM pro
OpenBank-Konto.

Surfaceville...

* System 7.0 or higher.

Colorize is similar to Change Color, but only operates on pixels
within the selection that start out gray.
This maintenance release (1.0.1) updates the author contact info,
and adds new "About" boxes.

the author of the original
* Requires Japanese system (either KanjiTalk or Japanese Language Kit)
* Provided "as is" with no warranty whatsoever
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Glidel is a system extension that extends the Finder's drag-and-drop
abilities within System 7. You can select any icon currently visible,
either on your Desktop or in an open folder, and drag it to:
* The Open, Print, Get Info, Sharing..., Duplicate, Make Alias, Put Away
options (and Reveal Original starting with system 7.5) on the File menu;
* Any application or folder in the Apple menu, including those accessible
via a third-party hierarchical menu utility such as BeHierarchic, NowMenus,
HAM, or OtherMenus;

* System 7.x
* Macintosh with at least 3.5 MB of free RAM
* A 13" or larger monitor with 256 colors

John
