Subject: [*] ][2Mac 0.9.5

][2Mac is a set of 2 applications, 1 for the Mac and 1 for the Apple-][,
which allows you to backup Apple-][ floppies to a Mac in a format that
is recognized by IIe, the Apple //e emulator for the Mac, written by
Victor and Vincent Tan (/info-mac/app/IIe-301.hqx).

version history:

25-sep-1996, v0.9.5
-First attempt to support Apple-][c (not operational yet)
-Better sumchecking
-Fix for Super Serial Card
-More info in the 'About ][2Mac' screens
-The releasematerials now include some cable-examples

Although Apple-][ interfaces with a 6551 acia are now supported I must
admit that it has not gone through extensive testing yet, simply because
I myself don't own such a card. Owners of such cards are kindly requested
to give ][2Mac a try and let me know if problems occur.

I am doing my best to implement support for the Apple ][c soon...
Just looking for someone that can inform me about which port acts
as the modemport, what chip does the serial-conversion and which
addresses do I use to access that serial-chip....

Kind regards,
Adam van Gaalen

Subject: [*] AGA Scrollbar CDEF

Hi,

Here is the result of some noodling around with the Apple Grayscale
Guidelines (AGA) - an AGA Scrollbar CDEF.

Should work fine if you just paste it into an app or use some other way of
substituting it for the system scrollbar CDEF. I've been using it for a few
weeks (with Fa=E7ade) as the default on my PowerMac and it seems to be well
behaved.

Please let me know if you find otherwise and I'll fix the problems.

Subject: [*] Battalion 1.4

improvements:
- runs twice as fast as before on 68K macs and power macs
- lots of little improvements to the mac interface

battalion is a game of 'monsters, explosions and senseless
destruction' where you choose to play one of four giant
monsters and go rampaging through a small town destroying
everything in sight. Of course this gives the military a
chance to go blow something up, so pretty soon the shells
and the energy beams are flying.

battalion is freeware
battalion is an arcade game

requires:
- 3 megs of RAM (more is better)
- 3 megs of space on disc

(while battalion now runs on a 68K Mac, it still doesn't run
very well, so a power mac or compatible is highly recommended)

battalion is written in OpenGL(r) and was originally written
for Silicon Graphics machines. It has been ported to most
flavours of UNIX and now the Macintosh.

permission is granted for inclusion on the Info-Mac CDROM

Subject: [*] Bring Music To You Ears

This program was created using World Builder by B. Appleton and modified
by Ray Dunakin. "Bring Music To You Ears" is freeware and was created
in September 1996 as is my first attempt at creating a music education
stand alone program. The program is suitable for all ages specifically
targeting ages 8 years and up. My goal is that you have fun exploring
different aspects of music theory and who knows...maybe even learn a
thing or two along the way.

One of the first things you will notice is that "Bring Music To You
Ears" is in black and white. Sorry about this, as I become better at
creating these types of programs I will attempt to program in color.
"Bring Music To You Ears" will run on any Mac, and so will the games you
create with it. However, due to changes in the sound handling hardware,
the sounds do not work on AV Macs or PowerMacs.

Subject: [*] Calculator 1.0 OpenDoc part

An OpenDoc part by Peter Marks.

This OpenDoc part is a functional copy of the simple calculator that
comes as a desk accessory with every Mac. I thought it would be a neat
thing if I could embed a calculator in the middle of OpenDoc containers.
You can, of course, just double-click the stationary to use the
calculator in its own window.

This software is free but =A9 1996 Peter Marks. Do what you like, but I'd
appreciate a copy of any collections you put it in.

Installation

You must have OpenDoc installed.

Put the file "CalculatorPartPPC" in the Editors folder inside the System
=46older.

Put the stationary file anywhere you like, but normally in the
Stationary folder on your disk.

Operation

Double-click the stationary to open a Calculator in its own window, or,
more interestingly... drag the stationary into an OpenDoc container
(like a drawing program).

You can click the buttons with your mouse, or use the keypad on an
extended keyboard. The document that the part saves contains the current
display value. Copy takes the current display, Clear clears it.

Credits

This is based firmly on the CalcWindow that comes as a sample with
MacApp and it is based on the PowerPart sample that comes with
Metrowerks CodeWarrior 10.

To report problems, request features, request a 68k build, or just to
tell me how your parts are going, write to me at [email protected]

Subject: [*] CheckGestaltFor XCMD 1.0a

This is a slightly revised version of CheckGestaltFor XCMD.
It is now version 1.0a. What's different? The biggest difference
is that it was compiled with Codewarrior DR9 (original was
DR 4.5) and it eliminated one library file. Also, the code is
more compact and faster. Added a selector (well, not a real
selector) that returns the version information, too. Revised
the documentation some.

This program is completely free for any use. If you use it,
all I ask is that you put my name in the about box or somewhere
appropriate. I'd also love to know what programs it will be
used in. If you're feeling generous, please send me a copy!
Otherwise it is free. Not public domain, mind you. There is
restricted commercial for-profit distribution with the
exception of PHT CD-ROMs of Info-Mac archives. I do this to
support the Mac community.

If you have any questions about this program, please feel free
to contact me!

Subject: [*] FunKeys 1.0

Welcome to the fun world of FunKeys!
This name can be interpreted three ways:

-Short for Function Keys.
-Keys that are, well, fun.
-Things that are Funkey. [sic]

It's all three, but the first interpretation is most on the ball.

What FunKeys allows you to do is, basically, "set" those function keys
on the top of your keyboard (F1, F2, F3, F4) to do things. Most of us
Mac users never even use those things; FunKeys not only gives them a
use, but it also makes them really useful.

What it allows you to do is program all 15 of them to either open
applications or execute an AppleScript.

For example, F1 can open America On-Line, F2 can open Microsoft Word, F3
can turn off the sound, and F4 can quit all open applications. It's
entirely up to you.

In order to take advantage of the macro-like functions, you will need to
have System 7.5 or later installed; otherwise, you can simply use
FunKeys to open your favorite applications at a blast.

FunKeys can also switch over to a certain application if it is already
running.

And, best of all, you can still use the Function Keys for their current
uses, at the same time that FunKeys is running.

Also, FunKeys comes with a few sample, free, AppleScripts.

Subject: [*] HPopupMenu 3.4 XFCN (Native!)

Here's a new version of my popular Hierarchical Popup Menu for Hypercard.
There's no real functionality added, but I have recompiled the whole thing
into a native 'xfcn' resource for use in Hypercard 2.3.5. This will help
with lengthy menu lists, but the difference should generally be negligible.
I did it mostly for the exercise.

Subject: [*] HTMLprep: A MS Word macro for HTML conversion

Included is version 1.0 (it appears to work fine) of HTMLprep, my macro for
Word that converts simple documents to simple HTML. From the readme...

1. What is it?
It's a Microsoft Word macro [see q. 4] which converts Word or text files to
HTML. It is not a sophisticated HTML "environment," but rather designed to
automate the insertion of common tags into a document so it can be read by
a browser.

2. Why use it?
Let's say you edit a school newspaper, and lots of people give you articles
in MS Word format (Word will import other file types for you). You would
like to publish these articles on the web in a uniform fashion, and not
have to go to a lot of trouble. HTMLprep will insert all the necessary HTML
tags for the page to be viewed by a browser.

2a. Why not just use that Microsoft Internet Assistant thing (which is much
more powerful)?
Primarily because it is the slowest thing on Earth.

You can find the entire readme at
http://www.escape.com/~lstein/htmlprep.html

I think you may like this.

Subject: [*] Keys Off 1.1 - Macintosh Security Software

Announcing Keys Off 1.1, a major update to Blue Globe Software's popular
Mac security product that makes it even easier to prevent anyone from
tampering with your Macintosh. Once you tell Keys Off which parts of your
Mac you want protected - your keyboard, mouse, power key, CD-ROM, or
floppy drive - pressing a single Hot Key will disable them. Type in the
password you have chosen and they spring back to life.

Unlike a screen saver with a password, Keys Off allows your Mac to
display data normally while remaining protected. This makes it perfect in
situations where you want your Mac to run a program or demonstration, yet
you still want to prevent anyone from tampering with it.

Though it was originally created so parents could protect their Macintosh
>From their children's explorations, many users have found Keys Off to be
an indespensible tool in other situations: salespeople who want to
prevent tampering with their demonstration Macs, people who want to
ensure their Mac is safe while away from their desk at work, teachers who
need a Macintosh to remain actvive without students being able to modify
it, and many others.

New Features Since Version 1.0
* The ability to have security restored automatically after a restart, or
activated automatically at startup.
* The ability to have Keys Off activate automatically after a user-define
idle period.
* The ability to disable the shift-key during startup so that Keys Off
cannot be disabled.
* The interface is now a separate application. It can be removed to
prevent tampering with security settings.
* There are now separate settings for enabling/disabling mouse clicks
that are in the menu bar and those that are not.
* The deactivation password is now hidden as it is typed.
* An installer is now provided.

System Requirements - System 7.0 or greater.

Globe Software's web site at:

regular interval time.
Simply run Mac Restart and select from the edit menu 'Restart at...'.
Select the 'Restart at' check box and insert the time you like your Mac

Leave Mac Restart in the background.
When Mac Restart is in the background it changes its time requested to the

The choosed restart time will be saved inside the preference file of Mac

Subject: [*] MicNotePad Lite 3.7.4

Version 3.7.4 is a bug fix version.

MicNotePad is an easy to use, enhanced, digital tape recorder. Its
significant features are: It also is a transcriber. It works. It is easy
to use. It works in the background. It uses only half a megabyte of RAM.
70 pages on-screen user guide are built in.

MicNotePad is being used for dictation, transcription, and archiving.
MicNotePad is being used to record test flights, interviews, lectures,
meetings, performances, and kids.

To fully explore MicNotePad, switch to both Large View and Full Menus. In
spite of its ease of use and reliability, MicNotePad's long list of
features include superior sound quality, yet one hour fits into only 14MB,
adjustable sound formats, optional automatic playback, rewinding, and
locking, unique markers, sound check, adjustable sound input gain level,
adjustable key combinations, adjustable playback speed while keeping
original pitch, notification, selection of sound input device, AppleScript
scriptability, drag and drop onto email messages, playback of many aif, au,
wav, and system sound files, some optimization to allow transfer from and
to audio tapes, compatibility with global search engines, totally
transparent compatibility across the hardware platform from the PowerBook
140 to the Power Macintosh 9500. It even allows to use regular external
microphones with the PowerBook 5300 series without using any hardware
adapters.

Balloon Help often clarifies when minor features are not available on
specific Macintosh models and describes some more power features.

MicNotePad is a speech product that is well integrated into the word
processing paradigm. Other than most other speech products, it works for
any language, accent, number of speakers, background noise, or topic.
Beyond uses in journalism, legal and medical transcription, and higher
education, it also serves well in language study, speech therapy, with
attention deficit disorder, and for creative writing.

Limitations: This free MicNotePad Lite 3.7.4 does not function in Japan.
Also, for any Mac model that will be introduced after summer of 1996 you
might have to come back for a newer version. If that occurs, then it is
obvious immediately, and you can send an e-mail to the authors to
accelerate development of a new version (your vote for the budget). The
authors hope to remove such limitations upon clearance of certain
contractual issues sometime soon.

Subject: [*] Missions of the Reliant v2.2

So, you think you have what it takes to be a starship captain?

Missions of the Reliant v2.2, a zippy shareware game for the Mac, has
finally arrived! Missions was first released in 1994 and received Honorable
Mention for Best New Shareware Game of 1994 at the MacWorld Expo in Boston.
Since then, I have worked long and hard to produce version 2, which
contains new missions (3 in all), new features, new enemies, and overall
improved game play.

Missions is a game that combines the swift action of an arcade game with
the challenge of commanding a ship and its crew into battle. Unlike many
action games, Missions is more than a shoot-em-up; it requires careful
strategy, interaction with your crew members, and the skill necessary to
juggle the ship and its crew when confronted by a sudden, fierce attack by
the enemy.

Missions uses three-dimensional objects rendered in 256 colors for a more
realistic look, and achieves smooth animation through the use of Ingemar
Ragnemalm's Sprite Animation Toolkit, an excellent programmer's library for
making sprite-based animation which is available on the Internet. Also, it
employs a unique "jigsaw puzzle" approach to create hundreds of different
crew members for each game.

System requirements:
* System 7.x
* Macintosh with at least 3.5 MB of free RAM
* A 13" or larger monitor with 256 colors
* 3.3 MB of hard drive space

Missions of the Reliant v2.2 is shareware. Unregistered users may play only
one of the three available missions. Registration costs US$20 and can be
done instantaneously while-you-wait using Release Software's embedded
SalesAgent registration system. Once you register, all three missions will
be available.

For those of you who downloaded previous versions (including v2.0.x),
please download this new version, which reflects changes in my association
with various software distributors.

Subject: [*] NET/Mac2.3.61

Hello dear reader,

NET/Mac v2.3.61 was born...

For those who don't know NET/Mac... NET/Mac is the application that
supports TCP/IP over packet-radio, which means, that hamradio operators
can use NET/Mac for their wireless TCP/IP network...

In this version of NET/Mac the following mods/features were implemented:

- Fixes for AddResMenu() bug in System 7.5.4
- Fixes for AddResMenu() bug in System 7.5.5 and higher
- Modified some Copyright notices

- NET/Mac does NOT support the new Buckmaster CD-ROM's HAMCALL
database yet... I am trying to convince Buckmaster that I need
the new data-encryption-method, but as of yet they are not ready
to release a description of the encoding-algorithm...
The old CD-ROM's remain fully supported...

The new NET/Mac has (hopefully) been uploaded to:

- oak.oakland.edu, to the directory /pub/hamradio/mac/digital
- ftp.ucsd.edu, to directory /hamradio/packet/tcpip/incoming.
If it's not there (anymore), then look at /hamradio/packet/tcpip/mac.
- hamster.business.uwo.ca, to directory /pub/amsoft
- wa2zkd mirrors UCSD's incoming on his Landline BBS. Ham's w/o ftp
can call 716-544-1863 or 2645.

NET/Mac will be uploaded to PI1HVH.AMPR.ORG, directory public/mac.

Announcing the release of PowerReplace 5.2.4! PowerReplace is a powerful
text conversion utility using the Drag/Drop technology. It can replace
character (including NULL, CR, LF, TAB) and string by any other string.
By use of the asterisk-sign(*) representing any indeterminate string,
it can replace also a string only whose two extremities are known.
It supports all character set, hexadecimal string and Unix regular
expression(pattern) for Find/Replace.

PowerReplace can create small stand-alone daughter-application called
"SelfReplace",
who makes your favorite conversion more easily and efficiently.

Bugs fixed:
- Fixed a bug which could cause losing of input file in the previous version,
if the name of this input file is too long (>26 characters)
