Subject: [*] Airport IDs (4) data

** UPDATE **
'Airport IDs (4) data' is an Airport IDs database that contains the 4-letter
ICAO airport identifiers. Since this file contains over 6600 entries it makes
quite a hefty download. I decided to release it seperately so users who do
not require this database would not be required to spend the additional
download time.

** OVERVIEW **
Airport IDs (download seperately) is a neat little utility that allows you to
search for Airport/City locations by name or ID code. It returns all records
that match your criteria (truncates list if over 32K characters). Registered
users can display the location on a world map and export/import the database
to make modifications/corrections as they desire.

Thank you to users who have previously registered Airport IDs; you do not
need to register this new version. The registration cost is only $7 (free for
FedEx employees) so please register if you decide to keep this program. Site
licenses are available.

** UPDATE **
Version 2.2 adds a 'Show All' button and a few fixes/enhancements. I have
also converted data files for the 4-letter ICAO IDs, 2-letter and 3-letter
airline IDs, and a list of ATA sections (i.e., 3418 - Stall Warning). The
Airport IDs download contains the original data file. All other data files
can be downloaded seperately. If you cannot locate a data file that you want
send me an e-mail and I will let you know a location that has all of the
files available.

Subject: [*] Breaker 1.0 to 1.0.1 patch

This patch will convert the cool little Breaker 1.0 arcade game to the
latest version, Breaker 1.0.1.

There are many consistency / game play bug fixes and improvements in
version 1.0.1, so if you're still using version 1.0, this patch is HIGHLY
recommended!

NOTE: If you have modified your copy of Breaker 1.0 in any way (such as
with customized changes to the sounds or graphics), this patch file may not
work.

Changes to Breaker for version 1.0.1:

* Improved the consistency, accuracy and reliability of the OgBurst.
* Added a "flashing letter" effect when all of the letters are gotten.
* Added a box around the OgBurst progress bar; this makes it easier to
judge when the OgBurst is warmed up and ready for use.
* Tweaked "Old Mac mode" OgBurst effects to look better.
* Added keyboard command (cmd-H) for toggling the High Score window on and
off.
* Fixed bug in which the playing field would start out empty on very large
monitors.
* Fixed "Black & white mode enabled" message in startup screen (comes up
when launching in black & white on color-capable systems).
* Fixed the "invisible brick" problems which could occasionally happen in
later stages.
* Fixed bug which would sometimes mess up the number of free Ogs awarded
when the necessary score is achieved.
* A couple of other minor changes & bug fixes.

Please report any problems with this patch to me at: [email protected]

Subject: [*] CopyThru v2.3

CopyThru v2.3 makes duplicates of HFS volumes with the option of
segmenting the copy through a fixed (or simply not-removed) volume. In
other words, it is a multi-pass block copier for removable media.

CopyThru fills up your hard drive (or as much of it as you permit to be
filled-up) with blocks, ejects the source volume, requests the destination
volume, and then repeats until the copy is completed. Since it does
asynchronous block-copying, it is much faster than Finder-dragging.

Version 2.3 has many bugfixes (See the "Version Audit" section of
the Docs for details). In particular, two "show-stoppers"
have been fixed:

- a bug that caused "Out Of Memory" errors when there was too much
memory (e.g., when using VM or RamDoubler).

- a bugfix that caused v2.2.9 to bomb on B&W macs.

v2.3 will be the last freeware version. v3.0 will be distributed, with
many new features, as "CopyThruPlus" and will be shareware. Check out

Subject: [*] Disk Mapper 1.0.1 - A Handy Disk Mapping Utility

Do these scenarios sound familiar?

- You're getting ready to install that new software you just bought, or
you're trying to download a large file from your favorite cyberspace place
and you find there's not enough room on your hard drive...
- Or you're looking at your stack of CDROMs trying to remember which one
had that file you've been looking for...

Well, Disk Mapper doesn't promise to make your hard drive any bigger, but
it does show you, GRAPHICALLY, what or who's hogging all that space. Click
on a folder and zoom in for a closer look. Or zoom back out. And with the
press of a key, you can create text files that list all the files found on
CDROMs or any other volume. No longer will you have to waste valuable time
navigating through folder after folder trying to figure out which files
need to be archived or trashed to free up precious disk space.

Disk Mapper requires System 7 or greater and at least 256 colors (or shades
of gray) are recommended.

Disk Mapper. An exciting new way to look at your hard drive and CDROMs.

Here is a screen shot of 165 extensions & control panel items that I
call Extentionitis.

Several of my clients are constantly having Mac problems that can be
traced to extension conflicts and this is what some of their screens
remind me of.

I created this by using Andrew Welch's "SnapZ 1.0.0" (The only program I
found that would allow a screen shot to be taken during "load-up").

To make this into a startup screen, download the file and rename it
StartupScreen then drop it into your System Folder and restart.

It can also be converted into a desktop pattern by opening it with
Simple Text, select as much of the picture you want then COPY and PASTE
it into your Desktop Pattern window (in the Control Panels of System
7.5).

Don't let your Mac develop Extensionitis.

Subject: [*] GetInfo Extreme 1.0.1

GetInfo Extreme displays information about files, folders, and disks
that are drag-and-dropped onto it's icon. It also does Finder
Information batch processing for all files (or only selective files
using criteria) contained within a folder and all of it's sub-folders.
Finder Information includes type & creator, modification dates; Finder
flags, label, and icon location; data and resource file sizes; and much,
MUCH more. GetInfo Extreme shows a window similar to the Finder's "Get
Info..." window, with up to three extra buttons: (1) More, and (2) Edit.
Folders and disks have an additional button: (3) Batch.

The More button shows the More Info window, with an extreme amount of
information about the selected item. The More Info window also has a
Disk button to show an extreme amount of additional disk- related
information. The Edit button lets the user change much of the Finder
Information. The Batch processing button is used to change Finder
Information for all files within a folder.

The Batch processing mode uses criteria [similar to the Finder's
"Find..." window (if you click on the "More Choices" button)], so you
can specify that only files with specified attributes get modified.
Attributes include: name, kind, label size, date created, date modified,
version, comments, and lock. A list of Type and Creator codes may also
be used to filter the batch of files to be processed. Criteria may be
applied to files, folders, or both. Highly flexible.

Features Drag-and-Drop operation. Fat Binary, so runs native on
PowerMacs. Tested on Mac IIci, PowerMac 7100/66, and PowerMac 7500/100.
Includes good documentation.

Subject: [*] References Manager 1.5

References Manager
=A9 Bob Jansen, Turtle Lane Studios, 1996

References Manager is an application to assist you in managing your
references to information objects, for example, papers or books you
have read and want to remember or cite in one of your own papers, or
URL's.

References Manager simply allows you to catalogue various details about
each information object for later retrieval. It will uniquely identify
each object with its own reference number so you can file the object,
if in paper form, for subsequent retrieval (this is how it actually
started, I use it for managing my four drawer filing cabinet). For
electronic objects, including Web-based objects, it can record where
the object is stored and then open it at a later date.

What can you record? Well, the title, author(s), publication details
and abstract of any item, as well as keywords for each object to
classify it in various ways, and a space for writing those phrases or
points that you found really interesting and would like to remember (I
call them assertions).

References Manager may also be used to manage your list of URL's. Any
references manager card can contain a URL. All URL's stored in the
Publication, Keywords, Abstract and Assertion fields will be grouped
and if clicked will send an openURL apple event to Netscape
Navigator. The contents of the URL will be displayed in the
Netscape browser window. In this version, URL's are identified with the
strings in the URL Types field on the Preferences card
and end with one of the characters in the URL Endings
field or the return character.

References Manager has extensive balloon help on each object.

Please read the Information window accessible from About References
Manager. Note particularly the information regarding further
distribution of References Manager or commercial activity.

Subject: [*] StopWorlds

StopWorlds is a terrible-fantastic trick ! You can try it immediately.
It possible to use it to "lock" temporarily the computer (it's not very
secure, but it's not bad). It is also possible to use it to leave the
message to other user of the computer (configure it and put an alias in
startup folder).

To configure the StopWorlds drag over any document named "Config". On
dialog box you can: insert one, two or three sentences; activate the
flash; choose the pause whithin the sentence; exclude the
command-option-esc sequence to exit; enable the exit after last pause
and MOST IMPORTANT choose the key sequence to exit the program.

When you have configured all options attach one icon (of generic folder,
document or hd) and rename the program. Naked woman is a good
suggestion, but there are a lot of good possibilities.

This is Synchronize! 3.4.2, a file synchronization utility.
As a way of introducing you to Synchronize!, you may use its basic
file synchronization and backup features FREE. Decompress this
Compact Pro archive and try it out. The many advanced features
of the program may be demonstrated with folders which contain
less than 400K. Unlimited use of the advanced features requires
the purchase of the program, which is $29.95, plus shipping.

As an example, you can use Synchronize! to connect to a remote
network with AppleTalk Remote Access, log on to a file server,
synchronize or backup some files, log off the file server, disconnect
ARA, and put a PowerBook to sleep or shut down your Mac. All this
can be scheduled to happen at night or at any preset time, once or
peridically, without anyone present.

Synchronize! is a great way to keep your work-in-process backed up on a
second hard drive or a removable drive. Set it to copy those important
files at lunch, or the end of the day, and you're always safe from a hard
disk failure. Synchronize! is quick, too, because it copies only the files
which have changed.

Features include:
> Accelerated for Power Mac.
> Apple Guide - step by step instructions (System 7.5 only)
> Drag and drop - set folders by dragging from the desktop (System 7.5 only)
> Hierarchical display of files to be copied, like the Finder
> Selection of files or folders, by full or partial file name,
file type, creator, and label.
> Easy one-way backup, with deletion of old files
> Copy AutoDoubler files without expanding them
> Conflict checking
> Synchronization of deleted files
> Use aliases to group certain files and folders to sync
> Optional verification
> Automatic synchronization at any time, once or periodically
> Launch Synchronize! automatically, when sync is needed
> Automatic connection to server disks, using File Sharing
or AppleShare
> Automatic entry of Remote Access and server passwords, so you
don't have to be there to enter them
> Automatic unmounting of remote disks
> Automatic disconnection of AppleTalk Remote Access
> Automatic shutdown or sleep when done
> Activity log
> AppleScript support
