Subject: [*] AlarmBook 3.0 Demo
Neptune Systems would like to submit the latest version of AlarmBook for
Macintosh/Power Macintosh. This is version 3.0 and incorporates bug fixes,
and enhanced network commands.
Please replace any older versions of AlarmBook with this newer commercial
demo.
AlarmBook 3.0 demo is a demonstration version (limited by execution) of the
full commercial product. The product is an organizational/utility software
packaged designed to let a user set up alarms for reminders or to perform
tasks. It is accelerated for Power Macintosh and prefers 1.5 MB of RAM to
operate.
The software can also be downloaded or purchased from our site at

From: [email protected] (Pete Keleher)
Subject: [*] Alpha 6.5
This is version 6.5 of Alpha, a completely customizable and programmable
text editor especially tuned to handle source code, LaTeX, and HTML files.
Alpha is:
New features:
o new Latex, HTML, and Java modes
o floating menu palettes
o dynamic function popups (marks often no longer necessary)
o expanded syntax coloring
o "Perl" regular expressions
o reorganization of Tcl code, allowing deconstruction
o ftp menu allows transparent editing of files on remote (Unix or other) hosts
o One or two other enhancements and fixes.
And the standard blurb:
o Powerful. Alpha uses Dr. Ousterhout's Tool Command Language (Tcl) as a
scripting language. Tcl is rapidly becoming a popular extension language
over many different hardware platforms.
o Customizable. Any function or keystroke sequence can be bound to any key,
menus are completely user-specified and modifiable.
o Emacs-ish. Alpha supports many of the key bindings and central concepts
of GNU Emacs. It is not a port, however, and uses a Tcl instead of LISP
as an extension language.
o Multi-modal. Alpha supports mode-specific:
bindings
menus
keyword colorizing
Alpha currently has over 20 different modes, including modes for the
following languages: Ada, C, C++, Fortran, HTML, Java, Pascal, Perl,
Postscript, Scheme, SQL, Tcl, and TeX (including both LaTeX and LaTeX2e).
o Interoperable. Alpha allows user scripts to build and send arbitrary
AppleEvents. Currently, the default configuration of Alpha inter-operates
with several different compilers, including CodeWarrior and Symantec C/C++,
several LaTeX implementations, including OzTeX, DirectTeX, and Textures
(although Textures' AppleEvent support is currently very weak), and several
other applications, such as MacPerl, BibTeX, Excalibur, the ToolServer, and
Eudora.
o Native on the PowerMac.
o Uses the latest Apple technologies, such as Drag and Drop, and AEGizmos.
o Uses Ramon Felciano's Mercutio menu definition routines.
o Internet Config-aware.
Alpha is ShareWare, $30.

CGI-Bolt Version 1.0
By Grant Neufeld - [email protected]
http://arpp.carleton.ca/cgi/cgibolt.html
CGI-Bolt is a Macintosh web server add-on which can restrict unauthorized
CGIs from running.
In a nutshell, it enforces UNIX "cgi-bin" style restrictions for Mac web
servers.
It is primarily intended for servers where multiple users have uploading
privileges, but shouldn't be uploading CGIs. CGI-Bolt can restrict a web
server so that only CGIs in the authorized "cgi-bin" folder and its
subfolders will operate.
CGI-Bolt is Shareware.
A license for a single computer is US$25. RAIC, Site and World-Wide
licenses are also available.
You may use CGI-Bolt on a web server for 21 days before you must decide
whether to keep it or pay for it.
Registered users will receive the following via email:
1) A 'FAT' CGI-Bolt CGI
2) A 'FAT' CGI-Bolt WebSTAR plug-in
3) The above will have the option of configuring the name and path of the
cgi-bin folder.
(Fat means it includes native code versions for both PowerPC and 680x0 -
the distributed version only contains 680x0 code.)

* What is it ? *
Collect HTML is an XTension for XPress 3.1 or higher that allows you to convert
text from Quark pages into HTML format.
- Styles can be converted into HTML pre- and suffixes.
- Collect creates interlaced GIF, JPEG or PICT previews from Quark pages or
from
text or picture boxes.
- You can put links to local or remote URL's on selected text from within
Quark;
these links are stored within the Quark document for subsequent collections.
Collect is not well suited to convert complete Quark pages; it better for
'clipping' articles from large pages (e.g. a newspaper) for Web publication.
HTML is not as rich in features as Quark is, so do not expect a WYSIWIG
behaviour in HTML. Collect just tries to help you to create good-looking HTML
documents from Quark pages.
The demo version time limited in a few ways: it is usable until December
31,1996, and each time disables itself 5 minutes after startup of Quark. The
demo version also has the GIF support removed.

Subject: [*] Disk Charmer 3.0.5; disk erase/copy/verify utility
You don't have to wait for Copland to initialize disks in
background...
Disk Charmer is a neat utility that lets you conveniently erase and
copy disks, and handle disk images in DiskCopy and DiskDup+ format.
Disk Charmer lets you create larger disks: you gain 9K on 800K disks,
19K on HD disks, 1.5MB on Zips.
At least System 7 is required.
Help Balloons are everywhere.
Disk Charmer has a nice, modeless interface.
It fully supports drag&drop.
It supports the handy "Undo" feature we all know and love.
New since version 3.0.4:
* compiled with the InternetConfig 1.3 glue
* slightly faster when it has to eject the disk
* properly assigns the file name to DiskDup+ images

Subject: [*] Extra AOL Features 1.0
Extra AOL Features is a special resource file that, when installed,
causes the AOL software to behave a little differently. Installing Extra
AOL Features is as easy as double-clicking it in the Finder.
Extra AOL Features has been tested with, and requires, version 2.5.1 or
later of the America Online software. It hasn't been tested with AOL 3.0,
though, and is not guaranteed to work with it.
Extra AOL Features provides these features:
1. The best feature of Extra AOL Features is that, when downloading art
or otherwise updating the Online Database, the "Update" window is no
longer a non-movable model dialog. YAY! Now whenever you're assaulted by
the Update dialog, you can switch to other applications, or even switch
it to the back and continue your work.
2. The annoying "Reminder: AOL staff will never ask you for your
password..." message will be gone from Instant Message and New Mail
windows.
3. The "Chat" menu will no longer appear. I thought of this because I was
running out of menu bar real estate whenever the Chat menu was enabled (I
have a 14" monitor). Also, the Chat Preferences are accessible via the
Member Preferences. And I hardly ever accessed the Chat menu to use the
Chat Sounds command, and when I did, all I had to do was type "{S
Sound.Name}".
4. The Command-L keyboard shortcut has been removed from the Go To menu's
"Lobby" command. I found myself in the Lobby far too many times when all
I wanted to do was go to a Keyword.
5. There is a very, very cool feature found in Extra AOL Features, but
only registered users are allowed to access it. Check out the "About
Extra AOL Features" document to see how to register.
Extra AOL Features is a special type of file that the America Online
software recognizes (the file type is 'AOrs'. Easily installed, Extra AOL
Features can just easy as easily be removed.
Also, instructions are included how undesired features can be removed
with a resource editor. And for the ResEdit-inept, one of the benefits of
registering Extra AOL Features with the author is receiving a customized
patch that will remove any undesired features.
Extra AOL Features is $1 shareware. You can reach the author at

Subject: [*] GifBuilder 0.4
GifBuilder 0.4 is a utility to create animated GIF files, which quickly
become a popular way to include short movies in Web pages. Its input is
an existing animated GIF, a bunch of PICT, GIF, TIFF and/or Photoshop
files, or a QuickTime movie, Premiere FilmStrip or PICS file, and its
output is a GIF89a file with multiple images. Options include color
palette, pixel depth, interlacing, transparency, interframe delay,
disposal method, frame offset, looping and dithering. Animations can be
previewed. Comprehensive scripting support. Fat binary.
Main changes since 0.3.2: input of PICS, FilmStrip and Photoshop layers
as animations and of Photoshop files as frames, built-in 6x6x6 palette,
suppression of unused colors, frame expansion, many user interface
improvements and bug fixes.
GifBuilder 0.4 is freeware (see the readme file for the details).
A French version is available as GifBuilder 0.4 F.

Subject: [*] InformInit v1.2
Announcing the release of The InformInit v1.2, The indispensible guide
to what's dispensible on your Mac and the most comprehensive guide to
extensions, control panels and system-related info ANYWHERE! The
InformInit's companion web site was mentioned in the June, '96 issue of
MacWorld under the title "When Software Dreams Come True"!
The InformInit is a shareware application within which you can find
almost every init Apple has ever produced, with information on what they
do, who needs them, version numbers, RAM consumption, tips and tricks,
and URLs for further information on confusing items. There are
ever-growing sections on non-Apple inits. A chapter on System Folder
contents gives information on many of the common items found loose in
the System Folder. There is a summary of Apple information on System
7.5.3, such as which computers need which of the various updates (7.5
update 2.0, Revision 2), how to best install the updates, and what
changes have been made in each update. Finally, there is extensive
information about PRAM, how to reset it on various Macs, and what
actually gets "reset." Use this guide to satisfy your curiosity about
unidentified files, to help you cut down on all the spurious extensions
that you don't really need, and to generally improve the performance of
your Mac.
There have been many imitations of, and efforts similar to, The
InformInit, but it remains THE reference for System Folder information.
Version 1.2 includes over 100 changes/additions/updates!

* Any Mac

Like to take advantage of all the $$$$$s our government has

MacGPS transfers Waypoints, Routes, Tracks, etc. between a
popular handheld GPS receiver and your Mac. FAT binary runs
native on both PPC and 680X0 Macs. Includes instructions for
building the required interface cable.
This version fixes a bug with the Potsdam datum and is
smaller than the previous version to take up less of your
valuable disk space. If you use MacGPS, be sure to upgrade
to this new release.
Also includes a Waypoint File for BOULDER County, Colorado
with the latitude and longitude of almost 250 important
locations. This text file can be printed with any spreadsheet
or word processing software for manual use, or it can be loaded
into the GPS receiver with the MacGPS software. Waypoint files
are available for other areas, including U. S. National Parks.
This file replaces earlier versions of larrys-mac-gps. It may
be included on the CD-ROM.

Subject: [*] PowerReplace 5.2.2; a text conversion utility.
PowerReplace is a powerful text conversion utility using the Drag/Drop
technology. It can replace character (including NULL, CR, LF, TAB) and
string by any other string.
By use of the asterisk-sign(*) representing any indeterminate string,
it can replace also a string only whose two extremities are known.
It supports all character set, hexadecimal string and Unix regular
expression(pattern) for Find/Replace.
PowerReplace can create small stand-alone daughter-application called
"SelfReplace", who makes your favorite conversion more easily and
efficiently.
Bugs fixed:
- Fixed a bug which could cause losing of input file in the previous version,
if the name of this input file is too long (>26 characters)
and "Replace input file" option is selected .
- Fixed a bug causing that, rarely of course, it doesn't save the output file
after conversion in the previous version.
- This version works correctly if the filter file is locked.
New features:
- Added support for undo typing.
- Added support for automatic alignment in editor.
When you click "Check Syntax" button, it will also align the filter file text
as two columns. You can disable cette option via menu "Edit/Text Option".
- Use of temporary memory. PowerReplace 5.2 uses all the available memory
on your mac as temporary memory to works. You shouldn't have to increase
PowerReplace's memory partition for large input files.
- Added "Technical Doc".

a standard Mac IIci and 2 seconds on a PowerMac)
3. Prints in landscape or portrait and on US Letter or A4 paper. As well
as recipes, you can print shopping lists for recipes and recipe indexes.
4. Recognises and automatically imports files exported in its own compact
format as well as files from the PC recipe programs Meal-Master,
Compu-Chef, MicroCook and MasterCook II. Exports files in Recipe Finder,
Meal-Master or plain text format
5. Extendible features via Recipe Finder Deluxe PlugIns (eg there are PlugIns
to automatically generate recipe categories or to adjust printed margins).

and enhanced network commands.
Please replace any older versions of AlarmBook with this newer commercial
demo.
AlarmBook 3.0 demo is a demonstration version (limited by execution) of the
full commercial product. The product is an organizational/utility software
packaged designed to let a user set up alarms for reminders or to perform
tasks. It is accelerated for Power Macintosh and prefers 1.5 MB of RAM to
operate.

* What is it ? *
Collect HTML is an XTension for XPress 3.1 or higher that allows you to convert
text from Quark pages into HTML format.
- Styles can be converted into HTML pre- and suffixes.
- Collect creates interlaced GIF, JPEG or PICT previews from Quark pages or
from
text or picture boxes.
- You can put links to local or remote URL's on selected text from within
Quark;
these links are stored within the Quark document for subsequent collections.

* Any Mac

Like to take advantage of all the $$$$$s our government has
invested in the Global Positioning System (GPS) Satellites?

Recipe Finder Deluxe 3.0.1 is a powerful, yet easy to use shareware recipe
program that works on almost any Mac (requires System 7.0 or later and at
least 4Mb free RAM) and comes with 40 yummy gourmet recipes from the
author's kitchen so you can try out the program right away.
** Unless you own FoxPro 2.5 or later, you will also need to download **
** recipe-finder-dlx-runtime.hqx which is the program's support library **
STANDARD REGISTRATION (US$10) gets the latest program version & PlugIns, an
online help file & a bonus database of 1,500 ready to use recipes.
GOURMET REGISTRATION (US$15) gets everything in the Standard version PLUS
Recipe Finder Glossary (a searchable glossary of cooking terms and
ingredients) and over FOURTEEN THOUSAND ready to use recipes
OVERVIEW OF MAJOR FEATURES
1. Stores recipe name, course, number of serves, cooking time, preparation
time, recipe complexity, source, nutrition info, ethnicity, ingredients
and method as well as any search categories you wish to specify. You can
also specify if the recipe has been tested, can be frozen or microwaved
and can automatically convert between metric & US/UK measurements
2. Performs lightning fast searches on any combination of fields (eg a search
through 1,500 recipes with nine different conditions takes 12 seconds on
a standard Mac IIci and 2 seconds on a PowerMac)
New PlugIns are posted on info-mac, CompuServe & our web page at:
