This stack contains 2 XFCNs and 2 XCMDS to manage associative arrays.

Associative arrays are arrays which can have strings as indices. For example,

myPets[dog]

Of course, the indices can be numbers as well, so these externals provide
true arrays for HyperCard.

These externals are free for non-commercial use, and may be freely

Subject: [*] TaskMaker 2.2.3

TaskMaker continues to be one of the most successful shareware games for
the Macintosh. David and Tom report over 3,000 registered users world-wide.
With the interactive, built-in tutorial, beginners (and even people who
have never played dungeon games before) find TaskMaker an easy game to get
started, and a hard game to stop. No experience necessary!

It is recommended that all users switch to this latest version of
TaskMaker. In recent prior versions (v2.2 & v2.2.1), a handful of
registered PowerPC users, especially those running virtual memory, RAM
Doubler, or Speed Doubler, would experience crashes when TaskMaker examined
their registration number. This version, v2.2.3, fixes that problem.

Subject: [*] WeatherTracker 2.2.1

WeatherTracker provides an easy-to-use interface to the Internet weather
servers. It requires a 68020 or higher processor with System 7.0 and MacTCP
or OpenTransport. WeatherTracker displays current information for any of
over 1000 cities worldwide in three different formats.

For cities in North America, temperature, barometric pressure, winds,
current conditions, local forecasts, and climatic data are updated hourly.
Coastal cities in the United States also have near shore marine forecasts
available. For cities outsite North America, only temperature and
conditions are available and are updated several times a day.

Changes in version 2.2.1:
- added new Quebec cities
- unregistered users can get data for any city, but no automatic updates
- unregistered users cannot save prefs on quit
- fixed bug which cut off "M" in AM/PM in tiny window
- fixed bug which caused city to be skipped if conditions were N/A
- added double-click on conditions Easter egg to get forecast window

WeatherTracker is shareware, $15 US. This evaluation copy does not update
automatically or save preferences. Registered users will receive a key to
unlock these features.

Subject: [*] YA-Base64 1.2.7

YA-Base64 version 1.2.7 has just been released

Yet Another Base64 Decoder version 1.2.7 is a simple droplet designed to
decode MIME Base64 encoded as well as uuencoded files that are dropped upon
it. It assumes that all segments of the original MIME or uuencoded document
have been concatenated into the file being decoded, and that the segments
are in order. It will optionally attempt to recursively decode files until
no further Base64 decoding or uudecoding is possible.

This is intended primarily as a helper application for Yet Another
NewsWatcher. It is not a general purpose MIME document decoder. It is not
even a general purpose Base64 decoder. Neither is it a fast or smart
uudecoder. However, it does handle most usenet Base64 and uuencoded
binaries fairly well, and it can deal with multiple attached files.

YA-Base64 requires System 7 or later. It also requires Internet Config to
assign the proper creator and type to decoded files.

Version 1.2.7 fixes a problem with the proper file type and creator not
being assigned to certain decoded Base64 files. It also improves error
handling. The default memory allocation has been increased. With the
previous value, file mapping via Internet Config would fail on PowerPC's
due to insufficient memory when processing more than one file at a time. A
preference to skip the "Internet Config Not Installed" warning on startup
has also been added.

Subject: [*] YA-NewsWatcher 2.3.0 (final)

YA-NewsWatcher version 2.3.0 final has just been released.

It has also being sent to MacGifts for redistribution via the many Info-Mac
ftp mirror sites world-wide. However, Info-Mac is currently unreliable and
either loses or delays many submissions. Finding a current version of
YA-NewsWatcher or a helper app at Info-Mac may not be possible.

Yet Another NewsWatcher is a Usenet newsreader application for Macintosh,
featuring binary and anonymous remailer posting, flexible article filtering
(kill files) and sorting, support for PGP via AppleScript, reference-based
threading, and comprehensive multiple character set support for reading and
posting in non-English language and non-latin alphabet newsgroups. Yet
Another NewsWatcher remains free, but registration to support further
development is suggested. Information on how to register YA-NW accompanies
the program

Version 2.3.0 is a final release that fixes all reported bugs from the
previous beta release. The following changes or fixes have been made since
the last release version (2.3.0b4).

=C4 Added an optional wrap parameter to the getmessage Apple Event. The
"YA-NW PGP Sign" script was modified to use this to wrap messages before
signing. There's also an updated NewsWatcher.Frontier file so that Frontier
menu sharing is also up to date with the added wrap option.
=C4 Updated a number of the program Docs files. =C4 When printing a message
that will be both emailed and posted, the (A copy
of this message... text is now printed.
=C4 Fixed the "copy to self" option not working for anonymous messages that
did not have another email (To or CC) recipient.

Subject: [Q] PostScript print to file help needed

I'll try this once more. It is probably so dumb that no one wants to
encourage me further by answering. 8')

I have a standalone 7.5.5 Performa 6115 (6100/60) with GX running for a
Color StyleWriter 2500. But occasionally I want to "print to file" a
PostScript file from Filemaker Pro or some other capable program. I
would then download the file to work and print it on an appropriate
printer. That means several varieties of HP LaserJet 4 and 5 si, or a
QMS PS2000.

The problem is that I no longer (after installing 7.5.3, as I recall)
can find out which print driver works, and how to set it up. I used to
use the Laserwriter 8.3.x driver and simply select it in the Chooser.
But I can no longer make it work - the issue appears to be the (new)
requirement to access the driver via a network, rather than serial
port. I have made no intentional changes relating to networking, though
something in the upgrade may have changed some settings.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Please.

Thanks...Gary

Exactly how are you "unable" to print more than one page? Does it bomb the
machine? What exactly happens when you select the "Pages: All" radio
button?

Also, why are you printing to EPS files? You can print to plain PS
files if you're making PDF's with Acrobat.

Unfortunately more questions than answers this time, but get back to me - I may

Subject: Contact Managers

GenevaI'm trying to find a contact
management (address book) program, (shareware or freeware) that is
oriented toward maintaining company information. What I have seen so
far are programs that center on individuals. Those progams usually
provide for company information to be included in each individual
record but do not permit me to have a company record which includes
data for several individuals at each company.

Ideally, I would like to have a file which contains, in a single
record, company name, address and phone numbers for a specific business
location, and names, phone numbers, extentions, address data, even home
address info, for individuals at that company. If the program would
also provide links to other business location for that company and/or
related companies, that would be helpful also.

If I have to, I'll set up a database myself, but I'd rather find an
existing program

I am going to purchase a mid-range injet printer for work that is 90%
text and every once in a while needs a higher quality BW or even color
photo. Since most of my work will be text that I will want to edit
immediately, speed is a major issue for me.

Any comments regarding the above printers?

Are the HP drivers PPC native yet? Have they solved a supposed problem
(according to the salesman) with using a direct serial connection?

Thanks for any help you can offer....

Subject: HP Printer Pal - for DOS/WIN's only?

HP has something called a Printer Pal that turns an HP inkjet or laser
printer into a fax maching. Unfortunately, it only seems to be suitable
for DOS/WIN systems.

The salesman claimed that it could be used to receive faxes with the
computer off, and so should work as a stand alone fax receiver, but
I have this feeling that the initial fax 'set-up' will be software
controlled even for this type of use.

Does anyone know if HP is considering porting this great device to the
Mac?

Thanks for your help!

It is possible to play Doom over the internet, although the performance
isn't very good. Your best bet is to download a public beta of Kali, and
with that you'll be able to play against PC users.

Subject: MPEG encoder available?

Hello,

About a week ago I bought an MPEG-decoder-card for my Power Mac 5200...
Now I have been trying to encode some of my home made QuickTime movies to
a format that the MPEG-card and -player will recognize, but so far without
any luck.

The application SPARKLE has the abilitites to convert between the two
formats, but the MPEG-file it generates is not recognized by the MPEG-
card-software.

Please help!

Subject: Network CP Mayhem

I waited for a couple of weeks to confirm this before broadcasting, but now
the sad facts are apparent;

The Network extension in 7.5.3 (CD-version), has merrily crashed 3 systems of
mine as follows:

a clean installed pb5300
an internal LC630 (updated from 7.5 rev 2)
an external 'universal' system (updated from 7.5. rev 2)

The crash manifested itself by booting normally, until the Finder started to
load, whereupon the menu bar was drawn, the watch cursor appeared and froze.

ConflictCatcher identified Network Extn as the culprit in each case, I then
deleted all the Network-related files (invisible AppleShare PDS, Move&Rename,
Users& Groups etc), then restarted with a minimal extension set.

Same problem!!

The next step was to switch to Classic Networking, repeat the above and see
if that made any difference..

Nope!!

OK, Get Info on the Network Extension fromm 7.5.3, and 7.5.3 rev 2 (the
update, which I had previously installed)-now the fun begins...

The version is the same in both, so is the Created/Modified info. What's
different? The byte size, hmmmmm...

Well, onto the solution. Copy the old Network Extension from my tape drive
(thank you Dantz!), and all is well (OT, Classic, Filesharing, the lot).

Hope this saves someone's wee hours...

New York is to my knowledge not available as PostScript.
I addition, it is NOT a monospaced font - probably with exception of

I went to the web site, got the 1.2 updater, and found myself in the same

Hmmm. How many times has anything less than a full install of Office 4.2.1

I wiped everything Microsoft from my PB's HD (Don't forget the two registration
data bases in Prefs) this evening and did a "full" install of MS Office. What
was the result? Now let's not always see the same hands.

Yup. A full MS Office install didn't kill my sound.

Only took an extra quarter gig of HD space.

I'm so happy with MicroSoft I could just ...

Did you check your system clock? What date/time is displayed? If you
adjust it today, and then shut down for about one day and restart the
other day, is it still correct? I'd bet it's an empty battery on your
computer's mainboard which causes the modification dates being "before"
creation date.

because of your valuable input, i was easily able to persuade our MIS
department
that my 8500 needed outsourced servicing. basically, my 8500's insides were
gutted and replaced: logic board, mother/daughterboards, memory, cache--i don't
know all the terminology. then i added 16MB to bring my memory up to 40MB, and
the 8500 is much, much, much improved. it's fairly zippy and can open lots of
apps at once without virtual memory or ramdoubler. since i've gotten it back
and
added the extra memory, i've only had one type 11 crash.

it still doesn't optimize memory the way it should--i use the wonderful macOS
purge--but maybe 7.5.5 will help. but at least i feel i'm getting more of the
high-end performance the 8500 promised. and i love this machine again!!!

thanks!!

If you are booting with a disk in the zip drive, the driver is loaded from
that disk, hence the already loaded dialogue. Otherwise, I don't know.

Subject: Zip drive updating problem solved

Just thought I'd pass along what I found out about my problem with updating a
Zip drive to 4.3.2.

Previously, I posted that a splash screen kept appearing on startup after I had
downloaded 4.3.2. The splash screen said that 4.3.2. could not be loaded,
because
4.2. was previously loaded. When I checked in my extensions folder, the driver
identified itself as 4.3.2.

I went into the Iomega tools folder and saw an update disk installer. Well, it
updated all of my zip drives. Now, on startup, I no longer get the splash
screen.

I do think, however, that the splash screen message is confusing, since I
thought
the problem was totally with an extension in my System folder. Hope others
do not confused by the update message. Dennis Perzanowski.
