"Alien Voice" AOL 2.7 Sounds

Clixsounds introduces an entire set of Alien Voice sounds for AOL v2.7!

The "Alien Voice" 2.7 Online Sounds are a great way to create an "out of
this world" atmosphere when on-line! These sounds are specifically designed
for use on America Online and are high-quality stereo sounds that replace
all of the standard AOL sounds.

The Alien Voice sounds contain a cosmic voice backed by ethereal sound
effects that have awesome stereo effects. Simply follow the enclosed
instructions and the next time you log onto AOL, you'll hear:

Login - "Welcome on-line, Earthling!"
New Mail - "You have received new electronic communication!"
Instant Message - A cosmic sound in stereo.
File Transfer - A quick lazer blast followed by "File has been beamed aboard!"
Logoff - "Departing to Earth!"

The "Alien Voice" AOL Sounds File is available here or at the Clixsounds
WWW site at:

This sound is freeware and redistribution of the archive in its entirety is
welcome. Instructions are included with the file for proper installation.

Subject: [*] Big Brother 1.2 - an addictive toy

Big Brother is a cute little toy you can download in only a couple of
minutes. It fills the screen with tiled pictures of a face; as you move the
cursor around, the images of the face all track the mouse. All you have to
do is move the mouse around the screen. The faster and farther you move it,
the more fun you'll have.

In this new version, you can replace the faces with your own and send them
spinning around the world! It's great fun.

If you try it, you'll love it: no one has ever not liked it!

Subject: [*] CommFgiure 1.2b2

CommFigure is a small utility that should speed up the time it takes to
configure Internet applications, by configuring multiple applications at
once. CommFigure is designed to be modular, that is new modules to
configure new Internet applications can be added by dropping them anywhere
on your hard drive, and new field settings (those found within the program
- ie. Real Name, Organisation) can also be added by using ResEdit or a
similar editing tool. In this way it should be simple for Internet
Providers or institutions to customise CommFigure for their personal needs.
CommFigure actively configures applications by editing their preference
files - this approach should enable virtually all Internet applications to
be configured by just one program - CommFigure.

Subject: [*] CycloPunk's Textures #1

Hello again Maccies,

Here are some Desktop Patterns in Texture Installer format. I kept the file
small as this is just a a sampler of the myriads of ppats, icons etc I have
on offer. The patterns are for free distribution and may be uploaded to
BBS/shareware archives etc. as long as the (enclosed) Read Me file goes
too. I have used DropStuff to make a self extracting archive which will
launch in the usual manner- double click. The majority of the examples are
saved from that great time waster Mandle Acid. Brighten up your desktop
today for free. And there's (lots) more where these come from.

Enjoy,

Subject: [*] Disk Charmer 3.0.4; disk erase/copy/verify utility

You don't have to wait for Copland to initialize disks in background...

Disk Charmer is a neat utility that lets you conveniently erase and copy
disks, and handle disk images in DiskCopy and DiskDup+ format. Disk Charmer
lets you create larger disks: you gain 9K on 800K disks, 19K on HD disks,
1.5MB on Zips.

At least System 7 is required.
Help Balloons are everywhere.
Disk Charmer has a nice, modeless interface. It fully supports drag&drop.
It supports the handy "Undo" feature we all know and love.

New since version 3.0.3:

* updated the alert message regarding SpeedEmulator; there is probably a
conflict between it and RAMDoubler

* fixed a couple of incorrect alerts

* translucent icon should start from proper position

* now you can start dragging only when clicking exactly on the disk image icon

* compiled with MoreFiles 1.4.3

New since version 3.0.2:

* translucent dragging

* you can drag the window around during backgroundable disk accesses

* updated the Internet-related menus

* sometimes incorrectly assigned names to non-Mac disks; to avoid this the
"Make disk larger" checkbox is now turned off if you switch to MS-DOS or
ProDOS (which is even correct from a User Interface point of view).

Subject: [*] Enigma 2.6

I am pleased to announce the release of Enigma 2.6. An upgrade to my
privacy protecting encryption application which runs in native mode on
Power Macintoshs.

Version 2.6 adds drag and drop support to vault windows. Drag files or
folders from the finder to add them to a vault, or drag files or folders
out of vaults into folders on your desktop. This version also updates Next
Wave Software's address and introduces it's home page at
www.thenextwave.com.

There were also some bugs fixed that affected vaults. The most obvious one
was that occasionally a vault would appear to have a size much larger than
it actually had.

You should upgrade if you are using any previous version of Enigma.

My file shredding application Burn is distributed separately to save
download time. The most current version of Burn as of 8/25/96 is 2.3.

Enigma remains fully compatible with previous releases.

Enigma is an application which can provide near absolute protection for
your sensitive documents and applications. By downloading this application
you can encrypt files using a limited version of the Government Standard
DES algorithm. For only $20 this can be upgraded to the full DES standard
(US and Canada only).

If you would prefer your neighbors not see your accounting data, your
co-workers not see your performance appraisal, or your competitor see your
trade secrets then Enigma is an application you will find very valuable.

Enigma supports vaults which are like very securely locked file cabinets.
Multiple files are stored in them. Files can be added, deleted, renamed,
and extracted at any time. You can create folders inside the vault to
organize your files better. Entire folders can be extracted or added in one
operation. Security is enhanced because filenames and lengths are protected
by encryption in addition to the contents. No other free or shareware
encryption program offers the flexibility of Enigma vaults.

You can also create self extracting vaults to send to friends and
associates who do not have the Enigma application. Self extracting vaults
are stand alone applications that cannot be opened without the proper key.

Enigma requires system 7.0 or later along with about 2 megabyte of memory
and 400K of disk space. Documentation enclosed specifies ordering
information for a system 6 or earlier compatible version, but the vault
features are unavailable.

Enigma for Windows 1.0 is available for download in the Windows section of
America On-line. Enigma for Windows provides true cross-platform encryption
capability --

Subject: [*] farther _enhanced_ grayscale image processing classlib

Attached is a Mac distribution of a new, 2.3, version of grayimage - a
grayscale image processing class library and verification code

The new version is more portable: besides a Mac, the source code compiles
and correctly runs on various UNIX boxes (Sun/Solaris, HP 9000/7xx,
FreeBSD), a BeBox, and even Win95/WinNT.

Besides portability and safety embellishments, there are more substantial
enhancements:
- non-separable (truly 2D) 3x3 convolutions (very optimized and very fast)
- much improved handling of TIFF files
- non-deterministic filtration
- a cuter algorithm for generating fractal clouds. Now, you may easily add
your own private (non-obligatory) tags to a TIFF file, and/or look them up.
BTW, the code that writes TIFF files shows off an important concept of a
safe, one-purpose pointer: a pointer that _physically_ cannot be misused
(miscast, left dangling, etc), yet just as efficient as a regular,
unprotected C pointer.

What: A C++ class library to do many boring and exciting things with
grayscale images
Keywords:
image arithmetics, median filtration, morphological filtration,
convolution, lazy image, TIFF, plasma fractals,
nondeterministic filter,
C++, class library Hot points:
- all standard algebra/arithmetics on an image/image slices
- LazyImages, and PixelAction iterators, and image streams for fast
sweeping actions;
- very *fast* convolutions, median filtration, and lookup
table substitutions
- morphological filtration
- assigning an image of _really_ any size to another image _to fit_
- Fractal clouds generator (as an example of a Lazy Image)
- non-deterministic filtration (averaging)
- reading/writing XWD/PGM/grayscale_TIFF files with automatic
input file format recognition
The user may now add/look up private and other non-mandatory
tags, and
iterate over/clone TIFF IFD entries
- with a validation code to verify everything
- with a commented source and CW9 projects A README file gives more details.

FeatherGIF is a filter for Photoshop and other paint programs that lets you

Subject: [*] Folder Icon Cleaner 2.0.2; wipes out custom icons

Folder Icon Cleaner is a small utility that lets you get rid correctly of
those space and time wasting custom icons, stuck right there on your
folders.
The Finder keeps every folder icon in a separate hidden file. The known
versions of the Finder do not
delete this file when removing a custom folder icon. They only delete the
icon resources from the file. Note that no other information is kept into
these "Icon" files. Folder Icon Cleaner correctly removes the icon by
deleting the file (and by updating the "Use custom icon" attribute of the
folder). No data is lost, you only gain a little more free space on your
disk. You can even erase every custom folder icon on your disk.

Folder Icon Cleaner can only be used under System 7 or later; however, it
is rather useless on a System 6-or-older Macintosh.

New since 2.0.1:
Recompiled with the latest Codewarrior;
linked with MoreFiles 1.4.3;
updated the Internet menus;
updated the docs.

Subject: [*] Luminous Chess v1.0

Luminous Chess is a Macintosh application which implements an unusual Chess
board. Every piece on the board casts light onto the squares which it may
attack; one player's pieces cast red light, and the other's cast blue.
These lights overlap and combine, showing you instantly the influence
exerted over any square on the board.

Luminous Chess is strictly a two-player game; there is no computer
opponent. However, it has several advantages over a normal Chess board:

1.The luminous squares are both beautiful and informative.
2.Luminous Chess implements both standard and Grand Chess (which
requires a 10x10 board).
3.The pieces in Luminous Chess are not easily knocked over by the cat
while you're trying to play.

(Grand Chess mostly follows standard Chess Rules, but uses a larger board,
adds two extra pieces, and eliminates the "castle" move.)

Subject: [*] MacCurveFit 1.2.2

Here is MacCurveFit 1.2.2, an update to the previous version.

MacCurveFit is a scientific least squares curve fitting program. Data sets
can be entered into a spreadsheet window or imported from programs like
Excel or extracted from text files. Arbitrary equations may then be fitted
to the data and the fits displayed graphically. The equations can be
defined by typing them as text and so the program is very flexible. There
is also a choice of mathematical algorithms that can be used for curve
fitting.

The program is shareware.

Subject: [*] MacLife 2.0

MacLife 2.0 is an implementation of Conway's game of Life for the
macintosh. Conway's game of life is a simple cellular automation, wherein
cells live or die depending on the quantity of naboring cells.

Right now (version 2.0) this program is still VERY simple and bare bones,
although version 2.0 is a complete rewrite, and the speed and interface
have improved. It now uses an 9 x 9 non-wrapping grid. Future updates will
include these features:

1) A torus based board. The board will wrap right-left and
top-bottom.
2) Variable board sizes, or at least a larger board.
3) Coloration of cells determined by age.
4) Death of cells after a certain age. (Not in the original
Conway idea, yet still interesting.)
5) Possiblely a creature palate. Any input on interesting
patterns that you find would be appreciated.

Subject: [*] PowerMenu v1.0 -- Open documents from Finder into any app

PowerMenu can pop up a menu when you're working in the Finder that lets you
open the currently selected document or documents in any running
application, or any application, running or not, in PowerMenu's application
list. Opening a SimpleText document in Word, for example, is a simple
two-click operation: select the document, pop up the menu and choose
"Word". No more messing with desktop aliases or "launch pad" programs.

PowerMenu also lets you maintain a list of "Quick Access Items" that is
available on your popup menu from inside any application. Keeping items you
use frequently in that menu means you can launch them instantly.
PowerMenu's pop-up menu is fully hierarchical, which means you can organize
your applications and quick access items into groups for even faster
access.

PowerMenu is optimized for both Macintosh and Power Macintosh computers,
meaning it will run at full speed on whatever model you use. PowerMenu is
$10US shareware.

Subject: [*] SafeDelete - Secure file deletion

SafeDelete 1.28 - File erasure for the paranoid
"The next level of file deletion" ?
"Corporate paranoia no more" ?
"Symantec, eat your heart out!"

SafeDelete takes file deletion to a new level. Now implimenting some of the
most secure cryptographic erasure processes available to the general
public. That second financial records book that you have been keeping, drop
it onto SafeDelelete and within seconds it will be gone. Not only is the
file erased, but it there are options to pre-encrypt the file before it is
overwritten with a "cryptographicaly secure" algorithm. What that means, is
that instead of simply overwriting the file with 1's or Zero's, it is
overwritten with truly random data generated by the movements of the mouse.
Most people would stop there, but we still took it further. Before the file
is deleted, the space previously occupied by it will be overwritten and
allocated as free space. Creation Date, Modification Date, Name, and other
misc information that could lead someone to know what was contained in that
file is also changed.

What you have here, is a program that tops all others. Not even "Wipe File"
>From Symantec goes the distance. No other program has the option of
pre-encryption before deleting a file, and just 1's and 0's doesn't do it
anymore. This is truly the most secure program for getting rid of sensitive
data. Patient records, financial records, the little electronic black book
you've been keeping, anything that you feel no one should ever know about.

Changes since 1.27:
* Matthew J. Harmon does the Abstract!
* This one works!
* Logging added to aid debugging/assistance.
* Code prepared for future updates.
* Better handling of busy files.
* Add Disks (erases all files on a disk).
* Better handling of virtual memory.

Upcoming features:
* Empty Trash option.
* More options in preferences.
* Overwrite with text of your choosing.

ScapeGoat is an application that allows you to easily/automatically delete
the MagicCookie and/or Global History files created by NetScape in the
Preferences Folder on your startup disk. The MagicCookie file on a
Macintosh (in the NetScape Folder inside the Preferences Folder inside the
System Folder) contains information ("cookies") that a web site wants to
write to your hard drive. Cookies are a general mechanism which server side
connections (such as CGI scripts) can use to both store and retrieve
information on the client side of the connection. The Global History file
(created/maintained by NetScape Navigator) keeps track of URLs you've
surfed, web pages/files you've downloaded, every image you've seen,
IDs/passwords you've sent, searches you've done, etc. (Ever wonder how
NetScape knows what links to display as red vs. blue? This is how it
knows). The ReadMe file contains information on cookies and why you may or

Subject: [*] SING!v2.01

SING! is an application which allows you to use the voices of the Speech
Manager to "sing" according to your choice of words, pitch, and note
duration. It automates the laborious procedure necessary when specifying
pitch and rate for each word to be sung. Also, successive calls to the
Speech Manager (necessary due to the apparent 30 [[pbas]] limit per call)
are arranged in such a way as to minimize interruption of song.

Version 2.01 allows the user to manipulate the song text from within the
program while maintaining accurate note count and song playability, and
squashes a few bugs. Some slight interface modification.

SING! requires system software 7.1 or later, a 68030 processor or faster
(68040 recommended), and the Speech Manager extension must be present in
the Extensions Folder. Use of Speech Manager version 1.4, Macintalk 3, and
associated voices is highly recommended. Macintalk 2 and its voices (Boris,
Marvin, etc.) and Macintalk Pro and its voices (Bruce, Victoria, Agnes) are
NOT supported. If the following voices (among others) are available to
"SimpleText", then it is likely that a compatible version of the Speech
Manager is installed:
Kathy; Junior; Princess; Ralph; Zarvox

SING!v2.01 requires at least 2 MB RAM to run on a 68030- or 68040- based
computer, and at least 3 MB RAM to run on a PPC. A PPC-only version is
available by request.

SING!v2.01 may be included in official CD compilations drawn from INFO-MAC
and UMICH archives. Permission is granted for its use in other compilations
as long as the program is unaltered, the ReadMe document and sample songs
are included, and the author is contacted first.

Star Gate is a utility that allows easy transfer of files between Mac and

don't want to bear the expense of network cards, transceivers and

Star Gate is easy to configure and requires only a cheap null-modem cable.
It can transfer whole directory trees and reconstruct the tree on the
receiving computer. It also performs text translation so the line endings
of text files are always correct for the receiving computer. The interface
is simple and convenient. To send a file to another computer simply drag it
to the outgoing directory and it will automatically appear in the incoming
folder of the other computer. Forget about protocols, packets, CRCs etc.
just drag your files!

Subject: [*] TrueClock? 1.6

TrueClock? is a small application (28K) that displays the time on your
screen in a round, resizable, movable Window. You can choose colors for the
hands, graduations, background. ( still compatible with black & white macs
). You can also adjust the thickness of the hands, and disable the seconds.

A special bonus is its "omnipotent mode": when switched on TrueClock? will
float on top of everything else, hence always remain completely visible.

TrueClock? should work on any Macintosh running System 7.0 or later.

New with 1.6: apart from fixing bugs from 1.5 (that resulted in a strange
behavior for preferences and background color), this version makes
"omnipotent mode" better. Absolutely no more taking over of CPU time when
the cursor is left idle on top of TrueClock?.

Note: the concept of "globally floating window" (omnipotent mode) has also
been implemented in other applications. However, as far as I can tell all
of them use the "Text Services Manager", hence require System 7.1 of later.
TrueClock? does not use TSM and will work with System 7.0 or later.
