THIS IS NOT AN UPDATE. This is a whole new volume, so please do not delete
4colorblues1.0 from the archive!

This package is Emailware and includes the following: 1-Patches for the
Control Strip which is specially designed for b&w/4color/gray monitors. It
enhances all of the b&w aspects. 2-A couple of sounds for no reason
whatsoever. One is my alert, and the other I use for an hourly chime.
3-A ResEdit PICT resource with a startup pict that was made and designed
for 4color/gray screens. It may look good on all monitors, but I have no
way of knowing.

Subject: [*] CommuniGate Server 2.3

The CommuniGate Server is the kernel part of the CommuniGate integrated
messaging system. When installed, it runs in background (no dedicated
machine required) and:
* stores all messages sent and received;
* enables network access for CommuniGate users, maintains their
mailboxes, queues, etc.;
* loads and runs CommuniGate modules (i.e. FaxGate, UUCPGate, SMTPGate,
etc.) and creates the run-time environment for those modules;
* maintains system activity log;
* implements routing algorithms;
* maintains a resource database and provides access to that database
for CommuniGate users and CommuniGate modules (fax cover pages, sounds,
voice scripts, info tables, etc.).

The CommuniGate services can be accessed with the CommuniGator client
software. The client software allows you to compose and read messages, to
manage your mailboxes, etc. It is also used by CommuniGate administrator to
configure, maintain, monitor and control the CommuniGate server - locally
or remotely.

When the POPGate and SMTPGate modules are installed, the CommuniGate Server
can be used as a messaging server for clients running not only the
CommuniGator application, but plain POP-based mailers (as Eudora and Claris
Emailer) - on any platform.

The archive includes the CGate Server API, so your applications (or Web
scripts) can easily compose and send E-mails, Faxes, page messages, etc.

The latest version of the CommuniGate System components can be obtained

Subject: [*] CompRes 1.2.1

Shareware Price: $25

CompRes is a Programmer's tool which allows nearly transparent runtime
resource decompression. This means that you can-for example-compress your
PICT or other large resources at compile time and have them decompressed at
runtime.

This application is a demo which shows you exactly how much disk space
you'll save by compressing your resources. And, although this demo is
System 7 dependent, the CompRes runtime decompression is quite robust and
works under System 6 and later (and probably under most of the older system
versions too!).

Subject: [*] Death Blade 1.1

Death Blade 1.1 is now available.

We have added more feature and still managed to shrink the code size. Below
is a list of enhancements and bug fixes. Thanks for all who have responded
and made suggestions.

New Features
SMALLER GAME AND DATA FILE SIZE!

Added positional cursor mouse movement in the 3D view. Simple place your
cursor appropriately in the 3D view and click to move. Should make it
easier for those who like using the mouse exclusively.

Increased chance of auto-detecting detecting secret doors

Can interact with more objects. Some objects may be hiding treasure

Modified treasure awards and treasure placement to provide more useful and
interesting magic and lower levels

Added and modified creatures to make some levels more challenging.

Modified some map levels that were too difficult to complete.

Banishment, Disentigrate, and Insect Swarm scrolls are not removed from
inventory when cast with no appropriate target in range.

The Shatter Stone scroll is not removed from inventory when stone is
magically protected (spell does not come off).

Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug that caused the initial save game file to fail when opening.
This only caused problems if you never did a save after you started the
game.

Fixed a bug that allowed the game to run with less than thousands of colors
(16-bit color).

Subject: [*] DragAnyWindow 3.2.1J FAT (Japanese version)

DragAnyWindow 3.2.1J is the Japanese version of Alessandro Levi
Montalcini's DragAnyWindow 3.2.1.

* DragAnyWindow is a control panel that allows you to easily move any kind
of window, including dialogs, alerts, standard "Open" and "Save" dialogs,
game windows and other non-movable windows. It also lets you bring back to
the desktop any window that has gone out of sight, or center the front
window on the main screen with a single keystroke. It is very useful for
old applications designed for the 9" screen (which often use fixed windows)
and for moving modal dialogs and windows behind them.

New in version 3.2.1:
- Recompiled with CodeWarrior 9 and updated documentation.

Thanks to Alessandro, for permission to localize his excellent programs.

This is $10 shareware. Have fun and support Alex.

GLMStat is a statistical program for analysing generalised linear models.
It provides a macintosh interface but otherwise operates in a similar
fashion to GLIM but with less features (most of which you probably won't
miss). Features of GLMStat are
- spreadsheet style data entry
- Normal, Poisson, Binomial and Gamma models with appropriate links and
specification of convergence and aliasing parameters
- Scatter and Residual plots
- Output of deviance, parameter estimates, residuals and parameter
correlations
- Saving of data files complete with all model specifications.
- printing of data, graph and results.
- Online Help (under the apple menu) and a brief User Manual.
- includes example data files for most examples in two of the texts.

The programme is shareware with a fee of $AUD30 for individual copies or
$AUD150 or $US110 for site licences. ($1AUD is approximately $US0.78).
Further details in the "Read Me" file.
Unregistered copies are fully functional but will expire at the end of 1997.

Changes in this version are
- increased stack size on 68K version to prevent crashes

Subject: [*] Gryphon Bricks 1.0 Demo

Gryphon Bricks 1.0 is the first virtual construction toy for kids 5-105.
Ever wanted to create your own space station, sky scraper or concept car?
If you can imagine it, you can create it with Gryphon Bricks. Bricks
features both a kids (ages 5-10) and adult (we call them "older kids")
interface. The kids version features easy-to-click buttons, fun sounds
associated with each function, and several backgrounds to choose from to
put behind creations. The "Older Kids" interface has all the features
offered in the Kids interface, but includes more sophisticated functions,
like multi-view options and the ability to print out blueprints of
creations to build real world models.

This is an almost completely functional version of Gryphon Bricks 1.0
("older kids" interface) for Macintosh but is limited to only 4 different
bricks and cannot save or print documents.

InterScript(tm) generates scripts by simply setting preferences for the
desired script and pulling down a menu to the desired script. Instantly,
the custom built script shows up in a folder. The script(s) are then
installed to your Internet account with InterScript Telnet Client(tm). The
whole process is done with one easy to use application.

InterScript Telnet Client(tm) is the improved replacement for NCSA Telnet
which has discontinued because it is no longer funded as a project.
InterScript Telnet Client(tm) has many enhancements to the last release of
NCSA Telnet which SYDNEY URSHAN MUSIC is now funding. InterScript(tm) DEMO
1.0 is the equivalent to NCSA Telnet 2.8 Release (if it existed) with
modifications and bug fixes, and the addition of automatic scripting
capabilities.

This DEMO package has one script Plug-In included (News Poster), however,
it is a full working version of the InterScript Telnet Client(tm).

InterScript(tm) DEMO 1.0 is compatible with the entire Macintosh family
including the Power Macintosh using 6.0 or later system software. You will
need MacTCP and an IP address assigned to your Macintosh to use
InterScript(tm).

We are accepting proposals from third-party developers to design new
InterScript(tm) Plug-Ins on any platform.

This binary is Freeware and may be included on commercially available
CD-ROMs of these archives.

Are you tired of getting the "The Application xxx has unexpectedly quit
because an error of type zz occurred" message ? Are you depending on this
application to keep running at all times, even when you're away ? Then you
should investigate "Keep It Up" (KIU), the utility by the author of
Autoboot.

What does Keep It Up do ?

KIU watches certain applications and monitors if they are still running. If
an application no longer runs because it "unexpectedly quit" or because the
user quit it, KIU will attempt to relaunch this application (and open
certain documents) or restart the computer. This will ensure that your
application is always running and available. KIU can also restart your Mac
at certain scheduled moments in time.

Version 1.3.1 is a bug fix release

Keep It Up is $25 shareware.

Non commercial distribution is unlimited. KIU may be put onto the info-mac
CD ROM. You may upload this archive to all internet ftp sites and online
services like AOL, Compuserve, NiftyServe, etc..

Paul Cave of Information Age Consulting has designed List Compare, a

Compare will compare a list of your current software against a Master List

The combinatio of a downloadable MacVersions file and List Compare allows

lists. These lists contain the filenames of various types of visual media

Subject: [*] NetBots 1.0 - Your Automated Internet Agent

Attached is NetBots 1.0, a shareware Internet Agent program for the Mac. I
give permission for this file to be included on the Info-Mac CD.

NetBots is a $15 utility that allows the user to easily configure virtual
"bots"
that accomplish tasks on the Internet. NetBots' fully-customizable architecture
and easy-to-use interface make it an essential tool for both Internet beginners
and Net-savvy programmers.

NetBots can automate just about any type of Internet connection. A bot can be
configured to notify the user when another user has logged on, to alert the
user when a host comes up or goes down, to monitor traffic on a web site, to
check for changes to a web page, and much more.

NetBots 1.0 is distributed as a fat binary application, with both PowerPC and
68k code. The program is written for MacTCP, and also works well under Open
Transport. A single-user license is $15 and can be purchased through the Kagi
shareware payment service by running the accompanying "KlepHacks Register"
program.

NetBots 1.0 is available for download immediately from:

Subject: [*] Open Book 1.03 -- Japanese learning tool

Open Book is a tool for students of Japanese. You can input your own word
list, and practice recognition of Kanji, pronounciation etc. in various
ways.

Displays Kanji on any Mac, but needs Japanese system software for input of
new Kanji. (This means that students can take home dictionaries and
practice on their own computers even though they do not have Japanese
system software!!)

All the words that you input, are automatically pronounced during practice!!

This product is shareware -- all the dictionaries that you produce with
Open Book MUST be sent to me, so that I can pass them along to others who
are interested. (A sample dictionary is included -- but it is very bad. You
have been warned.)

Version 1.03. May be included on any non-profit CD-ROM made by user groups,
etc.

Version 1.03 fixes a problem with saving dictionaries. If you are using an
older version, please upgrade to this version!

System requirements:
At least a 68020 processor (such as an LC). Runs on PowerMacs but is not
native.

This software comes with no performance guarantees whatsoever.

PICTuresque is a display and conversion utility that works on PICT, EPS,
TIFF and MacPaint files. It displays any of these formats on screen and can
convert any of them to PICT (even EPS). There are some interesting and
useful options for converstion. This version is a full-blown FAT
application (not a DA anymore), can open multiple files, and is the first
to support TIFF, with downsampled conversion. A great utility if you're
working with other programs that only accept PICT graphics.

Shareware: $20 for full version

Skittles is the hottest action-puzzle game for Macintosh! It's two-player
addictive strategy, with lightning-quick attacks to punish your opponent
and a plethora of intelligent computer enemies. It has been called "the
best shareware game I've ever played," "fantastic," and "worth every penny"
by the many registered users. Try Skittles today!

WHAT IS IT?

Skittles is an action/puzzle game for one or two players! You control
genetically altered Skittles which fall from the sky, trying to keep them
>From stacking up to the top of the screen.

The Skittles engineers have recently been experimenting with new flavors
and colors. One of the more psychopathic scientists decided to alter the
Skittles' formulas through genetic mutation. The first test batch was
produced, and a teeming, jiggly mass of coagulated, living Skittles
appeared. They quickly began to multiply and pile up into large groups. As
the scientists fled screaming from the building, a few clever minds noticed
that the Skittles were highly reactive. When four of the same type of
Skittle touched, they would instantly vaporize.

There's only one hope left for the Skittles plant, its workers, and the
small city that they inhabit. Vaporize the Skittles before they run rampant
and destroy everything in their path! You are the only hope left before
they crush the entire city.

Subject: [*] ToDo List v2.0

ToDo List v2.0: The ultimate todo list manager for Macintosh. This version
adds a number of user requested enhancements including:

-- COMPLETE APPLESCRIPT CONTROL Every command in ToDo List v2.0 can now be
scripted. This versitility allows ToDo List to work seemlessly with
applications such as FileMaker Pro. New items can be added, retreived and
even read (via Apple's Speech Manager) all through AppleScript commands.

-- NEWTON SYNCRONIZATION ToDo List v2.0 can syncronize its list with the
built-in todo list of the Apple MessagePad. A connection can be established
using a standard serial cable or via LocalTalk.

-- IMPORT/EXPORT CAPABILITY ToDo List v2.0 can now import and export to do
list items from tab-delimited text files, making it easy to move items
between ToDo List and other personal information managers or database
applications.

-- INTERNET SUPPORT ToDo List v2.0 has built in support for Internet
Config. With a single click, ToDo List documents can be exported to HTML
web pages. Any URLs in the list are automatically turned into live links in
the exported page. ToDo List v2.0 can also be used as a bookmark manager:
it will import your bookmark files from Netscape Navigator or Internet
Explorer or you can drag'n'drop URLs from any page into a ToDo List
document. URLs in ToDo List documents are automatically underlined and
control clicking a URL will go to that page in the browser of your choice.

Subject: [*] XTalk

XTalk is a 73K HyperCard stack that gives you access to other Macs on a
local area network, using Apple Events and HyperCard (version 2.1 or
higher).
It can be used to get information, send commands and send and exchange
messages.

FEATURES:
* Commands/Requests:
A number of pre-set commands and requests are available from the Command
and Request menus, or you can write your own in HyperTalk and send them.
* Instant Connection Buttons:
Once a connection has been made to a remote Mac, this connection can be
saved as a button. Thereafter, just clicking on this button will
re-establish the connection.
* Auto-Launch:
When you attempt to make a connection to another Mac, XTalk first
determines whether or not HyperCard is running. If not, it can actually
link to the remote Mac's Finder (Systems 7.0 - 7.1, thanks to the XCMD
"FinderEvents") to launch HyperCard for you.
* Broadcast Messages:
A single message can be sent to a number of Macs in quick succession.
Options are: "Only if..." (only send to a recipient if a certain condition
is met), "Beep" and "Switch to HyperCard".
* Chat:
Based loosely on the "Conversing" card of Apple's Apple Event Primer Stack.
* On-line Help

Subject: Apple ISDN Card compatibility

Hello,

I recently obtained an Apple Asic ISDN Nubus Card and I have a ISDN
telephone line as well. The problem is, that I cannot enjoy the speed
and other advantages of the ISDN connection because the Card is not
recognised by the computer.

I know that this card was dezigned for the Mac II, but since it's a
Nubus Card, I figgered it would work in all Nubus based machines. I put
it into the Duo Dock of my Powerbook 2300 running System 7.5.2.
After I installed the ISDN Serial 1.0.2 extension I expected the machine
to be able to use the Card.
While starting up, the extension icon of the ISDN serial displays with a
red cross on it. The system does not recognises the Card. Slot info
(from NewrTechnologies) shows the Card in the C-slot.

Can anyone tell me whether I need more/specific software for this ISDN
Card or is it just not compatible with system 7.5.2 or PowerMacs in
general?

Please, all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
W. van Loon

Subject: Bug in Mac Easy Open or Stuffit Expander?

Has anyone else seen the following, which I've noticed on four different
Macs running British System 7.5.3 (either installed from 7.5.3 CD or from
7.5 plus Update 2.0)...?

- I open a .sit file with Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 (either by dragging the
file onto Expander's icon, or by double-clicking and letting Mac Easy Open
open the file with Expander, as I don't have Stuffit Lite).

- When the file is finished expanding, the original .sit file is still
highlighted, as expected. However, if I now click another file or folder in
the same window, BOTH files are now selected! This is wrong!

This only occurs when Mac Easy Open is enabled (with Extensions Manager).

I haven't yet reported it to Aladdin (do they read this list?), I thought
I'd post it here first to see if anyone else has observed it. Maybe it only
affects British systems?

Subject: Changing printer through AppleScript?

I am putting together a FileMaker Pro 3.0 database that needs to
print to two different printers (one a label printer, one a laser
printer with magnetic toner for printing MICR characters).

I'd like to make the printer switching as automatic as possible
and suspect AppleScript is the way to go. The only way I've
figured out to do it is to use the shareware utility PrintChoice,
make PrintChoice "desktop printers," change the application
signature for each, and have FileMaker Pro send "odoc" messages
to launch the desktop printers when appropriate.

There has to be an easier way that isn't such a hack. I.e., how
do you select different printers through AppleScript?

Thanks.

Subject: GIF JPEG file tuner wanted

Good lord, what a list! Fortunately, if all you want is to get the
effect you see on sfgate, there is a much, much easier way that uses
HTML. If you view the source code for a page with these images, you'll
see that for every IMG tag, there are actually two separate image files
specified, one tagged SRC as normal and one tagged LOWSRC. The LOWSRC
file is the grayscale version, which loads first, and loads fast because
it's so much smaller than the color. Your browser then loads the color
image and replaces the grayscale with the color once it has arrived.

Of course, part of your dream applet would still be useful in making the
two files, but there's no need to interlace them or combine them into
one file. Just have your applet read the graphic and spit out a copy in
grayscale, or just open it in your favorite graphics editor and select
"grayscale" and then save (if you can't get your applet). Then take the
two files into your IMG tag, specify the smaller as LOWSRC, and you're
done.
