Subject: [*] AtariVD Editor 1.2.1

AtariVD Editor allows you to create and edit virtual disks for Atari 8-bit
computers (Atari 800, 800XL, 130XE, etc.) on the Macintosh. The virtual disks
can be used with Rainbow, Chris Lam's Atari 800/800XL/130XE emulator for the
Macintosh, or with PCXFormer.

AtariVD Editor recognizes 8-bit virtual disks in these file formats:

.ATR: Nick Kennedy's SIO ATR file format with a 16 byte header.
.XFD: No header. File contains only the disk sectors themselves.
.ATD: AtariDisk format. Has a 16 byte Macintosh header.

AtariVD Editor is capable of reading, writing, and creating virtual disks in
both Atari DOS 2.0/2.5 and MyDOS 4.5 formats. In MyDOS format, you can create
virtual disks from 720 to 65535 sectors of 128 or 256 bytes. MyDOS assumes
high capacity (over 1040 sector) disks have 256 byte sectors, however.

Supported Atari 8-bit disk formats:

810 Single density (720 128-byte sectors) - DOS 2.x / MyDOS 4.5.
1050 "Enhanced" density (1040 128-byte sectors) - DOS 2.x / MyDOS 4.5.
MyDOS 4.5 disks from 720-65535 128/256-byte sectors. (90K-16MB)

A text conversion feature with ATASCII Macintosh text conversion is also
provided.

System Requirements:
Any Macintosh using System 7.0 or later.

Changes in version 1.2.1, 6/29/96
* Changed "Write Sector" button title to "Save Sector" to match
documentation.
* Added Find Again command.
* Redesigned virtual disk header information display.
* Other minor cosmetic changes to some dialogs, etc.
* Replaced directory path window with a pop-up menu allowing upward
subdirectory navigation.

AtariVD Editor 1.2.1 is freeware. Have fun!
AtariVD Editor may be distributed on the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

iii) has the ability to handle multiple mail settings (e.g. for shared

I wrote it for because I needed it, but then people started asking for it...
It does take a few steps to setup, but that's in the read me.

A few weeks (a month?) ago a new terminal program was uploaded to
info-mac written by Frank Price (the third?).

I can't seem to find it. Of course, the fact that I can't remember what
it was called is part of the problem.

Please reply to me directly, as I imagine several of you know the answer,
and very few other readers care to know. ;)

John

p.s. FWIW, Frank Price was the original author of Hermes, as well as one
of the original authors of MacIntercomm. I had dl'ed the new program, and
it contained an extensive "read me" file, in the form of a .pdf doc,
retelling the history of those programs. I mentioned this on a local bbs,
but had already deleted the file from my mac- now they want to see it,
and I can't find it!

Of course, this depends on what version of Netscape you use. In version
2.02, for 68k machines, which I run, this preference does not exist.

Subject: Real Audio and Global Chat. Asking for help

A month after having them installed, and after trying at several url's
without success, I've decided that something is going wrong here.
After trying a connection with Real Audio Player I get the
message:"REAL AUDIO ERROR=18 SERVER DISCONNECTED. THE SERVER IS PROBABLY
TOO BUSY AT THIS TIME".
With Global Chat it is not better:"COULDN'T OPEN A CONNECTION TO
'....' THE REMOTE HOST DID NOT RESPOND. RESULT CODE=-23015".

Both programs were installed following the corresponding
instructions in Netscape 2.01, running on my 6100 Power Mac with system
7.5.

Any suggestion?
Thanks. Adrian Faigon.

Another info-macer responded saying that other data on this problem
strongly suggested that the common thread was having an IBM Disk which
was claimed to not do asynchronous I/O correctly under some
conditions. So far, there are 4 confirmed machines suffering from
this problem, and all of them have IBM disk drives.

- 2 Performa 6115CDs with IBM DSAS-3360 S47T
- 1 6100 with IBM
- 1 7100/66 with IBM DSAS-3540

Info-mac is an incredible resource. Thank you for the almost instant
responses. I am sure much more information will be forthcoming. I
will try to act as a focal point for the information and I will
publish updates when more is known.

Or, to add a third way, even easier: use Claris Emailer as your mail
program. In Emailer there is no need to create two settings files- you
can create two "services" within Emailer and have them both scheduled to
run, regardless of which provider you are connected to.

This is, in fact, one of the situations Emailer is designed to handle-

Subject: Why is ram disk a shared volume?

Does this make sense? I'm using AppDisk 1.6.1, a ram disk utility, as a
repository for Netscape cache files. AppDisk writes its contents to the
hard drive prior to shutting down--a nice feature. Anyway, all of a
sudden, now, whenever I launch Fetch or Anarchie, the AppleShare dialog
box opens up, saying "Connected to Shared Disk AppDisk 1.6.1", waiting for
a password (or a cancel, which I promptly select). Also, when I click on
File Transfer in Internet Config the same thing happens. But, FTP from
within Netscape does not elicit this behavior.

Why has AppDisk become a shared disk? I do not even have File Sharing
activated, although I did have it on at one point to transfer some files
>From an old to a new machine. The old machine also had AppDisk up and
running on it; perhaps there's a connection here. And, how do I eliminate
this minor but annoying behavior?
