Subject: [*] Baseball Stats FM 2.0
If you read the back pages of Baseball Weekly you probably know that many
people will charge you lots of money to maintain your baseball draft. I
get really annoyed at this since you can do it yourself with just a
little bit of effort. So I made this Filemaker database for my own use,
but I figured other people might also find it useful (I searched the net
for a long time for something like this without luck).
In the same spirit I put no passwords in the database and have restricted
your access in no way whatsoever. This I have done for two reasons:
password protected databases really are annoying and your draft rules
will be a little different than ours so you will likely have to customise
a bit.
The other reason I am making this available is that, for some reason,
those IBM compatible people seem to think that baseball is their
exclusive domain. Since there is nothing they can do that Apple cannot
do better, I bring this database forward in the effort to break the IBM
compatible baseball monopoly.
Once everything is set up, the process of tracking a draft is quite
simple. Get the stats from the internet (bookmark provided) and open one
file....and that is it! Filemaker does the rest. You are then free to
browse the information in various different formats.

Subject: [*] Danimal's Textures, Volume 2
This second volume of Danimal's Textures contains another 50 original
desktop textures that I made using Adobe Photoshop and/or Specular
Texturescape. (Volume 1 was simply titled "Danimals_Textures", and
contained 100 different patterns.) This file should be used with the
Texture Installer application. These colorful textures are great for
using as desktop backgrounds or even as web page background textures.
These are totally FREE, but I'd really appreciate it if you'd drop me an
email note and let me know what you think of them, where you found them,
etc. And if you REALLY want to make my day, visit the home of these
textures on my web page, Den Of The Danimal. Enjoy!

Subject: [*] Death Blade 1.0
Your name is Corwin Ironfist. You are Captain of the guard in a city
plagued by strange problems. An erie fog has been visiting the city each
night, acting as a screen for strange and hideous creatures, killing and
kidnapping. You have lost several men to these hideous creatures, but no
one has a good description of what they look like. They always attack
>From the dense fog.
One night, very late, you follow a suspicious woman to an abandoned
house. You find out too late that you walked into an elaborate trap. You
wind up trapped beneath the city in a strange underground complex. You
are unable to espace, so you procede on deeper into the trap in hopes of
finding out what is happeneing, and possibly an exit from this place.
Death Blade is a first person perspective 3D texture-mapped maze filled
with a variety of creatures, traps, and strangeness. The graphics are
rendered, and take good use of colors. In order to keep the quality of
the graphics high, Death Blade requires a system with at least thousands
of colors (16-bit color). It also requires System 7 or later, Sound
Manager 3.1 or later, and 8MB RAM. It will run on any monitor with at
least 640 x 480 resolution. It is multi-monitor friendly and features
16-bit sound effects.
Death Balde is Shareware and can be registered through the use of a
"Register" program that accompanies the game. This is not a demo. It is a
full working version. Thoe who do not register will receive an occasion
reminder during game play. These reminders will dissapear once a
registration code is entered.
Enjoy.

Subject: [*] Dingbat Magician(tm) 2.0-E
Dingbat Magician is a program that uses dingbat fonts to create colorful
logos, patterns and designs. Dingbat Magician's free-form working environment
allows users to manipulate picture fonts without having to memorize keyboard
equivalents or deal with dingbats in a clunky "word processing" manner.
Dingbats are treated as discreet objects in a drawing-program like
environment. Once a design has been created, Dingbat Magician objects can be
exported to other programs like Illustrator or Freehand for further
manipulation.
New in Version 2.0:
* PowerPC Native! (680x0 version also available)
* Improved User Interface
* Work with up to three different dingbat fonts at once
* Faster grouping and ungrouping
* Enhanced keyboard equivalents
* Option-drag objects to create duplicate copies (ala Illustrator and
Freehand)
* A KwikModify Submenu for frequently-used commands
* A Key Chart Window to view and print key equivalent charts
* More affordable shareware "unlocking" fee (disk version still same price)
* Now requires a color system and color monitor
* Rudimentary drawing tools removed to make program leaner and more focused
REGISTRATION INFORMATION: $12.00 to unlock; $27.95 for diskette

This is the second issue of Gallery, an electronic "chapZine" of poems,

sampling of writing and graphics with no particular theme, in Gallery 2 , I

Like the first issue, Gallery 2 consists entirely of my own work. I hope to

What's New Since Version 3.5.1:
*I have fixed some bugs in the script for grabbing URL's
*Has a new Dialog box for choosing Digests to import.
*Can correctly import Digests without Mail headers
*fixed several other small bugs
I use this with HC 2.1 and System 7.5.2 with no difficulty
Introduction
In an attempt to make the chore of reading the Info-Mac Digest and TidBITS
Digest easier and less time consuming, I created this stack. It allows you
to read in text files of Info-Mac Digests and TidBITS Digests and easily
page through them and read them. It also allows you to grab the file names
of hte "Archived" files off of the Info-Mac Digests and save the list of
files in a separate list. This allows for easy access to lists of files to
download. You can also grab URL's and export them to other applications.
I use Eudora 1.5.4 and an AppleScript applet to extract the digests into
single files (one file for each digest issue) and then read them into the
stack.
I also use Anarchie and another applescript to take the list of files
generated and travel to Internet Info-Mac sites and grab the appprorpiate
files and download them unattended.
Enjoy!!!

What is Kali ?
Kali is a graphic adventure. Your current place and useful objet are
displayed on screen. All commands are given using the mouse.
Installing
You need a color Mac or compatible to play Kali and 2 Mb of free RAM, so
you will be able to play it on a 4 MB Mac. Just copy the entire Kali
folder onto your hard disk (you need less than 5 Mb on your disk to
install it) then double-click the Kali stack icon. Don't give Hypercard
less than 2 Mb of RAM or it will work badly (no sound, no picture,
nothing at all). It's a color stack so it's memory hungry.

Mailbox to TSV V1.2.2 - Mailbox format to tab-separated-values converter
This package contains a kit to convert from a mailbox file format, such as that
used by Eudora, to a tab-separated-value file format, suitable for import into
FileMaker Pro, Excel, or anything that can read TSV files. While it does not
support the range of operations that other converters do, it does what it does
very well, and very quickly.
There are options to control whether a title row is output, whether
paragraphing
in the body is guessed, the format of date representation, and which headers
should be ignored completely. Standard headers are placed in specific cell,
while
other headers which are not ignored are accumulated into a single cell.
A sample FileMaker Pro 3 database is included to demonstrate importing of
files.
The package requires MacPerl 5.0.6r1m or later to run the droplet program,
AppleScript to support MacPerl, and FileMaker Pro 3 to use the database (not
required).
Version 1.2.2 fixes a problem with misreporting the size of the disk

Subject: [*] Mythos 0.8.5 b
Mythos is a fantasy role-playing system for the Mac that incorporates
user-defined adventures into a randomly-defined set of Worlds. Though
quite playable, Mythos is constantly under development with new
enhancements and art, and is updated through quarterly on-line upgrades.
This is the locked demo version; only 3 of the nine worlds are used, and
does not allow the inclusion of additional adventures.
Full documentation and info is available at my website at:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/3019/
Mythos greatly prefers a fast Quadra or PowerMac (though technically
will run on a IIx), 13">256-color monitor, 8 megs free ram, 5 megs HD
space.
*** Changes from last vers ***
Completed the new lighting system, added unique artwork for weapons,
changed some other art, increased animation speed by about 30%, several
general bug fixes, added some new sounds, enabled quite a few Relics,
and a few other things...

According to the spec sheets, the Performa 62xx series supports 8-bit color
at 800x600 resolution, or up to 16-bit color at 640x480. Period. No way
to upgrade it.
However, the 62xx does have a PDS slot, so *maybe* you could find a PDS
video card that will support more colors. (Assuming your PDS slot isn't
already filled with an MPEG card or something.)

What you want is the PPD specification, Revision 4, which is available on
Adobe's server.
As far as attempting to build a Rev4PPD for a printer without one...best
of luck. I'd suggest the original poster just use the "General" PPD.

Subject: Noisy fan?
Lately, I've been noticing that the fan in my Q660AV has
been louder than it used to be (not different, just louder).
I've had it for two and a half years now, and I was
wondering if there's any interior cleaning that needs to
be done.
::
It's possible the fan is getting off kilter due to heat warping or dust
buildup. A simple adjustment should be able to solve the problem or else a
fan replacement as a l;ast resort. This happened to me over time too (in a
6100AV as a matter of fact).
True story: At the end of the first day with my new Power Mac, the power
supply caught on fire and smoked me out of the office! I pulled the plug in
time to keep the flames from shooting out of the case however.

Ram Doubler is starting to be annoying. On the 7.5.3 system it gives
problems. College I work for as a teacher in Photoshop, bought 20 7200/75
and just upgraded to the 7.5.3. As soon as it was in problems started to
arrive. It keep crashing. Photoshop is definitively having problems with
Ram Doubler, up to the point that we simply got it off ass the computers.
We preferred to use One meg of virtual memory (17Meg) than using Ram
Doubler and I don't suggest it anymore to my students.
::
I have loved the idea of all COnnectix products since they came out but
have also tracked and reviewed them intensely and cannot recommend them
except for very minimal configurations (say, the little old lady who never
drives her 4MB computer except on Sunday afternoon). RAM Doubler will cause
almost all of the crashes a user ever has, and I would _never_ use it with
Photoshop! Read the documentation of RD and Photoshop, I believe they
caution --in fact-- warn -- never to do that!

Unfortunately the 5200 and 6200 series comes with 1mb VRAM and is
not upgradable. This limits you to 16-bit colour at a maximum resolution of
640x480. I can't remember if the LC slot is useable for video in this case.

It's upgradeable via the PowerPC processor card. Among the pros of
the card is your ability to switch back and forth between the PowerPC and
LC040 processors. I'll leave the list of remaining pros/cons to those who

It's possible to use any mic with the 7200. There should be an
extension
called Sound Input Amplification in the Apple Extras folder. Drop this
into your
system folder and restart. The amplification option will then appear in your
Sound control panel. The reason, or need for this, is because your Mac's audio
input is line-level. The Apple plaintalk microphone has a pre-amp that allows
it to produce sound at line-level, traditional microphones do not. With
the SIA
extension, traditional mic-level microphones are now useable.

I know nothing about the SE, but one mail order source of fans and other
electronic parts is Mouser Electronics at 800-346-6873 or
http://www.mouser.com
They have no minimum order requirement, ship promptly, and are very
courteous. You'll need to figure out the dimensions and voltage rating
of your fan; they know nothing about specific computer models. Better
yet, ask them to mail you their catalog so you can peruse the options.
You'll want a fan with the best noise rating (lowest dB rating). -Bob

Sounds As if you are using Netscape to download.
If the file is ended with ".bin" it can be decompressed with stuffit
expander as well as Macbinary II+. If you have got stuffit expander you can
just drop the .bin-file on Stuffit expanders icon.
You can set up Netscape to open the downloaded file with stuffit expander
in the "General Preferences","Helpers" dialog.

Besides the obvious (MS Internet Exploder), are there any viable

incredibly infuriating when it fatally freezes my Performa 630, and it does
this quite often. I've also heard that when Netscape does crash, it can
damage important system files on your hard drive, and indeed I've been
having big problems lately. When I restart immediately after a Netscape

The MacPPP Setup (or is it Config?) program/control panel should have a

I strongly suggest you switch from MacPPP to FreePPP 2.5. It is much more

If the files you're handing it are similar to the broken one you describe
above, that's not entirely surprising.
I use GS Viewer many times a day without trouble. If it's failing
regularly on files you're handing it, my experience suggests that the
problem is in the driver that is generating these "PostScript" files.

Actually, the most reliable way to view PS files is to send them to a PS
printer. Failing that, you may want to try:
Adobe Distiller, which converts PS files into PDF files, which you can
then view with Acrobat Reader. This is expensive.
Transverter Pro, which converts PS into TIFF and other formats. This is
somewhat less expensive.
If you'd like, mail me one of these files, and maybe I can shed some more
light on why they're failing under MacGhostScript.

Dear Neil
Thanks for the response
Actually I know that it is not the fault of Connectix. I just say it is not
a solution for Photoshop. The software is excellent for other purposes but
since I used Photoshop more than anything else I find it is not so useful.
As for the amount of RAM needed I think I have quite enough with 32 meg of
RAM. In a production environment you are so right, 32 or even 64 is a laugh
but as a teacher for theaching the software it is very good. Thank you for
your response again.

Dear Varou
I seem to have the same problem with RamDoubler, it seem to slow down the
system. Some people suggested the latest upgrade of RamDoubler, 1.6.2.
available on the Connectix site. I believe Ramdoubler is a good software
but you have to be careful with it. Actually It is out of my system right
now. I have 32 meg of Ram and I don't want to use it anymore. But if you
really want to use virtual memory maybe you want to put 17 meg of virtual
memory in the memory control panel instead of 32. It will put down the
amount of memory allocation needed to open any Powermac native software and
at the same time not slowing down too much your system. Actually, Apple
suggests to put 1 1/2 time the amount of real RAM that you have. So let's
say you have 16 megs of real RAM, Apple suggests you put 24 megs of virtual
memory in the memory control panel. But if you want to speed things up a
little bit maybe 17 megs will do the trick.
See you, Christian

Yep, that's how virtual memory works on the Mac. It needs to have 1 byte
of hard disk space reserved for every byte of total memory. Theoretically,
it would be possible to get by with less hard disk space, but it would be
slower.

Doesn't work with System 7.5.3. I believe it says so somewhere in the
7.5.3 readme files, and/or somewhere on Apple's web site. You'll have to
get a PlainTalk (or equivalent) mike. I ran into the same problem.

"I go into the Sound Control panel and turn the amplification on
but after closing the control panel and returning, I find that the
amplification is still off!"
This is similar to a problem I had with 7.5.3 on a Power Mac: the General
control panel refused to remember my settings. In the end I took a copy of
the General cp Prefs file from an 040 Mac where it worked and overwrote the
prefs file on the power mac. This worked. If you don't have access to a
working prefs file for the Sound cp, try trashing the current one and see
if the new one that the system will create is any better.
