MSDWT Manuscript is a slant print manuscript handwriting font. It includes

If you're using Norton's File Saver, try turning it off (at it's control
panel). That worked for me. Hope that helps.

Eudora will start up and make preferences files called 'Eudora Settings'.
You can rename this file to 'my one mail account' and double click Eudora
again. It will create a new 'Eudora Settings' file. You rename that to 'my
other mail account'. As long as you start Eudora by double clicking a
settings file, Eudora will use the settings (loginname, password, host,
fetch and send regime) of that file.
If you want to separate mail from two accounts, you will need to make two
different folders in which you place the Eudora Settings file and the
mailboxes In, Trash, Out etc.

The most likely reason is that you don't have the "Finder Scripting
Extension" and "AppleScript" installed. These are needed since in the
FindFile dialog, you really aren't "drag-and-drop"-ing, but actually moving
files and folders around (i.e. if you drag a file from the FindFile dialog to
the trash, the computer uses AppleEvents and AppleScript to go find the
actual file and move IT to the trash).

During the development phase of the 7200/7500, Apple frequently changed the
ROM on the motherboards of these systems. Rather than have to re-solder a ROM
chip onto the motherboard, they produced motherboards with a slot that would
accept a ROM card. Once the machines were "final," they put the ROM right on
the motherboard, and left the slot empty. In fact, I am under the impression
that some of the newer production units don't even have the ROM slots
anymore.

ApplWindows is a very nice extension indeed. However, I find that I am
using DragThing much more often than ApplWindows. DragThing (written by
James Thomson) creates a small window with 'docks' in which you can put
aliases to anything the finder recognizes (and more), to open applications,
drag&drop, &c.. In addition, it can create a 'process' window, with a dock
for all open applications. The latter is essentially the same sort of thing
as the 'bar' in Windows 95, but as far as I can see, much more flexible.
(One can quit an application by dragging the icon in the process window
into the trash - or even by selecting it and hitting the delete key). No,
if someone is looking for a windows 95 bar equivalent, DragThing is the
thing! It is somewhere in the gui directory of the info-mac archives.

Subject: [Q] Localtalk and Ethernet networks. Can both coexist at high speeds?
Dear Info-Mac readers,
I've the following computers and printers that I need to connect in a
network:
3 Macintoshes Quadra 605 (Only LocalTalk connector)
2 PowerMacs 7500 (Ethernet and LocalTalk)
1 HP LaserJet 4MV (Ethernet and LocalTalk)
1 DIN-8 ink-jet printer (maybe the Apple StyleWriter 1200) (LocalTalk)
I plan to use a 10BaseT HUB to connect both PowerMacs and the LaserJet
printer.
My doubts are what to do with the Quadras 605 and the SW printer.
Initially I planned to link them with PhoneNet connectors and plug this
LocalTalk network in the HUB using a Farallon MultiPrint adapter, but I
was told that the LocalTalk part of the network would slow down
considerably the ethernet part.
With this possibility in mind and finding out that 3 Ethernet cards will
cost the same of the MultiPrint connector, I realized that it would be
better to get the 3 cards and plug all Quadras in the HUB, instead of
using the MultiPrint adapter.
Concerning the ink-jet printer, Apple has a StyleWriter EtherTalk
Adapter that would convert any serial StyleWriter into an ethernet device
that I would can connect to the HUB. Also, I can plug it in one of the
macs and use PrintShare extension to share it with the rest of the net.
I would like to solve a few doubts about all that:
1. Would the MultiPrinter really slow down the network?
2. Wouldn't a serial ink-jet printer with Apple's EtherTalk adapter also
slow down the network?
3. If the answer for any of the questions above is YES, would this slow
down occur all the time or only when a LocalTalk member try to "talk"
with a ethernet member of the network?
4. Is there another way to connect a LocalTalk network with an Ethernet
Network? (I don't want to use Apple's network software router nor
PrintShare, because I think that they would slow down the host
macintosh)
Please, can someone help me with this problem? Please, send answers to my
personal email and I'll summarize the answers to the list.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Josmar.

This may well be a naive question but its answer will be most helpful
to me.
I have an LC475, 8 megs+ RamDoubler and lots of extensions running
7.5.1. I have the 7.5 update 2 cd sitting here on my desk and
I am wondering whether it's really worth installing it. I've been
quite happy with the present system (but then I was with System 6
eons ago also!). I've heard the new update take lots of diskspace
and that there have been problems with RamDoubler and other extensions.
I'd welcome any and all opinions and if you email me I'll post a short
summary to info-mac.
Thanks to all

I really like my SupraFaxModem 288. The big, bright digital display gives a=
very clear indication of the status of the modem, much better than the=
little LEDs on most other modems. It seems to be pretty reliable.
Don't worry about 33.2kbps capability. For one thing, I find that=
bottlenecks on the internet always keep the data transfer rates well below=
the capacity of my 28.8 modem... No point paying for something that won't=
make any difference, right? For another thing, there's no 33.2kbps=
standard yet, so that 33.2kbps upgrade is probably a proprietary protocol,=
and will only allow the USR modem to talk at that speed to other similar=
USR modems; when connecting to non-USR modems, it'll be no faster than any=
other 28.8 modem. And when there's a 33.2kbps standard, that USR modem=
might not be able to support it.

2. I'm wondering if anyone has the knowledge to create what I think

Subject: LC and VGA screen is too green.
I recently had to replace a monitor on a LC, system 7.1, and had nothing at
hand but a VGA with the little adapter for the mac DB15 connector. It works
well, except for the (well-known) problem of a over-green image. I remember
that I once had a little extension called something like 'Quadra monitor
extension' that did the correction. Of course, it was used on my Quadra,
and my Quadra now runs 7.5.3, so I lost this tiny INIT (The Quadra monitor
extension found in the 7.5+ package does not operate with 7.1). Hence my
question:
Does anybody have such an INIT that would correct the problem on the LC?

Subject: PLEASE HELP! How do I tile an image for my web page background?
What is the term used for the background and/or its handling on most HTML
editors?
This may sound like an astoundingly retarded question, but I need a
sincere answer. I have a small gif I'd like to tile for my background no
idea how (or where to look in the multiple editors I've downloaded) to do
it. I have a working-fuzzy understanding of how to place images and text
elsewhere, and my grasp is improving, but nothing I've found or read
directly addresses the use of images for the background. Do I need a
special application to handle it?
I openly confess to being code-illiterate ("DEVELOPMENTally challenged")
but I swear I'm not trying to strain the band width with the typical
newbie web author's overly graphic-oriented type of site. I just want to
have a nice-looking background for what may very well be a boring (mainly
text) personal web page...
I don't have the funds to buy (or the time to read) a book on it right
now, so if you feel obligated to refer me to one, PLEASE include a direct,
detailed answer to the question as the first priority in your message.
Replies via E-Mail would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for

With this possibility in mind and finding out that 3 Ethernet cards will
cost the same of the MultiPrint connector, I realized that it would be
better to get the 3 cards and plug all Quadras in the HUB, instead of
using the MultiPrint adapter.
Josmar.

Subject: A naive question...

Apple specifications say that the Color Classic takes 100ns RAM chips. My

2. I'm wondering if anyone has the knowledge to create what I think

PS-Where do look for replies to these questions or where should I ask if

Thanks!

Subject: PLEASE HELP! How do I tile an image for my web page background?
What is the term used for the background and/or its handling on most HTML

Thank you very much for
your time in reading this.
