Subject: [*] AliasPalette 1.2.6

"AliasPalette" is a utility program that helps you create alias files
just by dragging and dropping.

I can easily make an alias using the "Make Alias" item of the Finder's
"File" menu. I feel, however, a couple of inconvenient points.
1) I can create an alias only at the same place of the original item.
2) Finder always adds "alias" suffix to the alias file name.

I don't think it makes sense to create an alias at the original location.
I drag it into the target folder in which the alias should reside.
At that time, I think the "alias" suffix is unnecessary and edit its
name to the original one. I felt it annoying and I wanted some shortcut
such procedures. That was the reason "AliasPalette" was born.

There are many guys, however, who have thought same things and Apple
Computer itself had prepared the solution in secret. Using this
hidden function, you can make aliases just by dragging an icon while
holding a control key. There are several extensions that reveal this
secret. I've already gotten the solution exactly I want.

Should I stop writing the program already in working order?
Then AliasPalette had to go its own way so that it can offer several
advantages to the users:

1) You can register up to five folders in which your aliases can be
located.
2) When you make an application alias across the volume by control +
dragging, you won't be able to drag and drop documents on it properly
but an alias made by AliasPalette will work fine.

On the other hand, control + dragging offers fewer procedures than
AliasPalette. Choose either way you like.

Changes made in this version:
fixed a problem that would occur errors when unknown types of files
are dropped.

AliasPalette 1.2.6 is freeware and distrubuted as fat binary.
It requires System 7.5 or greater, scriptable Finder, 68020 or
greater 68K CPU or PowerPC.

AliasPalette can be freely included in the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Enjoy.

Subject: [*] Internet Control control strip

Internet Control is a MacOS Control Strip Module which provides an
easy way to access your internet software. Just click on Internet
Control=BCs icon in the Control Strip, and you have access to your
installed internet tools by selecting the internet protocol that you
want to use.

* Using Internet Control
Selecting =84http=BE for example, will launch your Web browser. The
protocols and associated Helper Applications are set using the
Internet Config System (included in the distribution package). You can
use Internet Control to access the Internet Config System directly, by
selecting the =84Edit Helpers=BE menu item. This will launch IC and allow
you to configure your helper applications. Note that Internet Control
only shows those helper applications wich are both LISTED in IC=BCs
Helper Applications window, AND are found on your hard disk.

Click on Internet Control=BCs icon with the COMMAND Key down and you
will see a list of the helper applications that you have installed on
your computer, along with their internet protocalls.

Click on Internet Control=BCs icon with the CONTROL Key down and you
will see your current IP number and DNS host name. If you are using
MacTCP, you will also see the Global MacTCP info here. (Note: Global
Info is not yet supported when using OpenTransport)

* Network Software Indicator
If you hold down the CONTROL key while clicking on the ICC icon, the
first item in the menu tells you if you are using MacTCP or
OpenTransport networking software.

* Dynamic Activity Indicator
If you are using MacTCP, you will see Internet Control=BCs Earth icon
rotate when IP packets are being sent and/or received!

This version of Jon's Commands, an excellent set of AppleScript scripting
additions, adds the ability to get and set the lights on the ADB extended

Jon's Commands is a fairly large collection of useful scripting additions
that are almost mandatory for anyone doing AppleScripting. They are free

commercial products.

Subject: [*] Keys Off 1.0

Keys Off was designed with one premise in mind: to protect your
Macintosh from any unwanted modifications. The Keys Off control panel
provides a simple way to quickly disable your Mac's keyboard and if
you wish, your mouse and keyboard power key as well. Press a single
Hot Key and the keybaord and mouse are disabled. Type in the password
and they spring back to life.

The biggest benefit of using Keys Off, as opposed to a screen saver with
a password, is that Keys Off allows your Mac to continue displaying data
normally. For example, if you are running a demonstration on your Mac,
Keys Off will allow the demonstration to continue its display
undistrupted, while still preventing anyone from tampering with your Mac.

Although it was originally designed to protect your Macintosh from young
children, Keys Off is a perfect solution in many situations: parents who
want to protect their Mac from their children's explorations, salespeople
who want to prevent tampering with their demonstration Macs, Mac owners
with pets that like walking on their keyboard, teachers who need a
Macintosh turned on without students being able to modify it, and many
other situtations.

Keys Off requires system 7. Author: Cliff McCollum and Blue Globe

For printing, I recommend inverting the map and printing in landscape

PPPremier Timer is a nifty gizmo that has a real function: it allows
you to quickly and easily open and close your PPP connection on your
Macintosh, while keeping track of how much time you accrue online.
PPPremier Timer=BCs best feature may be its streamlined customizable
appearance--it looks just like the display on your VCR or clock radio.
You can also choose any sounds you like to play when PPP opens and
closes.

Version 1.2.1B replaces all previous versions, and fixes a couple of
bugs. All users should upgrade. The most recent version is always
available at:
http://www.tiac.net/users/bigplan

_What=BCs New?_ (new since version 1.2B)
- Fixed a fatal memory leak.
- Fixed a bug which could cause the Timer Menu's "Open PPP" and "Close
PPP" options to be incorrectly enabled.
- Fixed a bug which could cause a sound to appear selected in the
Preferences Dialog's sound pop-up menus, when in fact no sound was
selected.

_Requirements_
PPPremier Timer requires System 7 or greater, a 68020 or better, and
MacPPP (or equivalent) and all its requirements. In needs only 100K of
memory.

PPPremier Timer is MacTCP and OpenTransport compatible. PPPremier
Timer works with the reference release version of FreePPP 2.5 (version

Subject: [*] RAMDoubler 1.62 indicator patch

This patch will make the activity indicator in version 1.62 of RAM Doubler
active by default. The activity indicator is a small white dot (a single
pixel) in the upper left-hand corner of the screen that blinks when RAM
Doubler is doing its stuff. (Because some Macs, such as powerbooks, have
screens without rounded corners, this indicator might be invisible.) I find
the indicator useful because it aids me in determining why my system is not
running as quickly as I think it should be. With Apple's virtual memory, I
can hear the hard disk spin, and see the hard drive activity light. As
distributed, RAM Doubler provides no such indication of its efforts.

This patch does NOT allow you to increase the "multiplier", i.e. this patch
will not turn RAM Doubler into RAM Quintupler, or the like. I have not
written such a patch, and don't intend to. Please don't send me requests
for information about such a product.

May 1996, v2.0d2
- fixed problem with loading of window size/position settings; this used to
result in error messages being posted for new windows
- added better messageID/references threading and optimized it like crazy
(this took a LOT of work, but was worth it- messageID/references based
threading is now about 1000 times faster than before)
- fixed a really dumb bug that resulted in incorrect handling of received
NNTP text that consisted of only a period/CR/LF in the *middle* of an
article (boy, was that a bonehead thing to have gotten wrong)
- added "Send Lower-Case NNTP Commands" preference
([email protected]'s NNTP server apparently accepts NNTP commands
*only* in lower case- go figure)
- added code to filter out spaces in "Newsgroups: " header line when
spooled articles are saved and when text is pasted in

This is the most recent version (4.3).

I am not the author, I am just forwarding this.

Subject: [*] Sicilian Numerals

Sicilian Numerals is a music font for notating figured-bass and Roman
numerals.

Sicilian Numerals includes Roman numerals of all qualities, figures
(normal and slashed), ten ready-made two- and three-figure combinations,
easy-to-enter figure combinations, accidentals, upper and lower case
letters A - G, pivot-chord symbol, and a variety of other related
characters.

Sicilian Numerals can be used in any program. For Finale or other music
notation programs, users will generally enter the figures and/or Roman
numerals with the lyrics tool. Unlike with other figured bass fonts, it
is generally unnecessary to use multiple text lines (or verses) to enter
figures that appear stacked, since many of these characters are
ready-made, or can be very easily entered with a few keystrokes.

Sicilian Numerals is available for Macintosh, Windows, NeXTStep, and Sun
systems. The Macintosh and Windows packages include both PostScript and
TrueType versions.

Preview Sicilian Numerals by downloading the PostScript sample file
SicilianNum_ps_samples.sit.hqx. The file includes:
SicilianNum-usage.sit: Instructions for using Sicilian Numerals
SicilianNum-layout.sit: Character layout showing key-combinations in
keyboard-view style

Shareware information and a screen-view sample are in the accompanying
text file, SicilianNumerals_FigBs_Font.txt.

Subject: [*] Standard Maps version 3.3.1--Chaotic Dynamics

Attached is version 3.3.1 of Std Map. This is a FAT application,
containing PPC and 68K (FPU required) code. It should run on any
Power macintosh, and any 68K mac that has a coprocessor. It requires
System 6, but runs fine under 7.5.

Std Map is a program that iterates some simple dynamical systems that
are area preserving mappings. It can display the orbits, showing regular
and chaotic behavior, find periodic and quasiperiodic orbits, and stable
and unstable manifolds. It has 8 different maps built in, including the
famous "Standard Map" of Chriikov and the Henon map.

Improvements from the previous versions:
Added some maps
Much faster iteration of Stable manifolds
Allows you to draw and iterate curves (lines, circles, polygons)
Automated the choice of colors for new orbits
Extented Balloon help (turn it on and off with the "help" key if you like.
Made the axis and labels routines smarter
Moved the ymin label up a bit.
Symmetry Choice for minimizing and minimax orbits now works for k

Subject: [*] TeleTalk v1.0.1

TeleTalk 1.0.1
Network Conversation Utility

** This version supersedes version 1.0b1. **

TeleTalk enables you to open text conversation channels with other users on
a LocalTalk network (much like the chat feature found on most BBS software,
or the 'talk' command on the Unix operating system). Each conversation
appears in its own split window, and TeleTalk can handle multiple
simultaneous conversations in real time, even when the application runs in
the background.

This new version features a neater 3D-style interface and an extensively
redesigned network engine, which provides better stability and efficiency.

Subject: [*] VersaTile Pro v1.6.5

Req's: System 7.0 or later, System 7.5 for
Drag Manager capabilities.
Any Macintosh (68020 or better )

VersaTile is the power user's launcher and file
manipulation utility. After using VersaTile you'll
never want to go back to rummaging through the
Finder's folders again.

VersaTile allows you to put virtually any desktop
item on a palette for quick access. Clicking on the
palette's tile will then open/move/duplicate/make
an alias of/trash/get info for that item automatically.

If you have System 7.5, you can drag and drop items
onto palette tiles that contain folders, disks, or
even the Trash and the dropped items will be moved
to the appropriate locations. Drop documents onto
tiles that contain applications and the application
will open the document.

A convenient pop-up hierarchical menu displays the
folder contents of any item placed on the palette
up to 5 levels deep!

Use VersaTile to create sets of icon palettes that
are customized for the way you work, then use
VersaTile's 'piggy-back' method to jump from palette
to palette, task to task, without having to constantly
rummage through your desktop folders. Multi-launch up
to 48 items with a single menu selection.

Built-in tile texture and format editors allow you to
design tiles that suit your requirements in size,
color, tile information (icon, file name, modification
date, finder label coloring, etc), or import any of
over one hundred pre-built textures and formats.

Pricing:
VersaTile Pro is offered as a $10.00 upgrade to all
registered users of VersaTile Classic. Unregistered
users can register their copies of VersaTile Pro for
$20.00 ea.

Site-licenses and group discounts are available.

Is it the level of nesting folders that causes the problems, or the =
length of the folder names? Try putting it at the bottom of a chain of =
folders like MacHD:X:Y:Z and see if it works or not. It may be that the =
program is somehow creating a full filename for something it needs (say =
>From the fonts folder), and if the path is too long it doesn't work.

I doubt this is the solution, but it may be worth a shot.

Actually, this is a curious question. NT 3.51 has built-in support for
Mac networks...just install and activate Mac services. A folder can be
"published" to the Macs. Nothing special is needed on the Mac
side...just normal "mounting" of the the NT published folder.... lots of
other capabilities too.

Hope this helps...John McCary

With the LC 475 (VRAM upgraded to 1MB), you are limited to 16-bit (32,000

The first thing that comes to mind is your memory disk cache=
setting. How high is it? Remember, the lower the cache is set to, the=
smaller the system memory that will be used. =20
