Hello,

I am currently experiencing a backlog in uploads. If you have uploaded a
program to Info-Mac recently, please expect a little delay in getting it
posted.

Do not resend your file assuming it has not been received.

I expect everything that has been sent at this time to appear on the
Info-Mac mirrors by Monday, May 6. If you have submitted your file by this
weekend and do not see it there at that time, please drop me a line and
we'll track it down.

Thanks in advance for your patience, and I apologize for the delays!

Subject: [!] Digest Interupption

Hi folks,
Sorry. The config on the machine we do the digests on changed recently; as
result I wasn't able to do the digests over the weekend. :( I think things
are back to normal now!

Oh -- and after I wrote the above I was killed by a rather nasty sore
throat (one of those... he he I'll keep you up from 2:30am till 10:00am).
Then, of course, I was way behind at work. Happy to report that I'm much
better; just tired (what else is new!?).

As you can see, info-mac just hasn't been doing well over the past week!
I've had an offer from someone else to help out with the digest making. I
think I'll get him signed on so we can try and prevent something like this
happening again!

Cheers,
Gordon (info-mac moderator)

P.S. Uh... I have about 5 digests in waiting. I'll be sending them out
over the next 24-36 hours. Sorry about the glut!

Subject: [*] AliasPalette 1.2

"AliasPalette" is a utility program which helps you create alias files
just by dragging and dropping.

I can easily make an alias using the "Make Alias" item of the Finder's
"File" menu. I feel, however, a couple of inconvenient points.

1) I can create an alias only at the same place of the original item.
2) Finder always adds "alias" suffix to the alias file name.

I don't think it makes sense to create an alias at the original location.
I then drag it into the target folder in which the alias should be.
At that time, I think "alias" suffix is unnecessary and edit its name to
the original one.

I am a lazy guy and I wouldn't like to do such troublesome procedures
at every time. At last I decided to write a program that provides
simpler operations to make aliases. That is the AliasPalette.

AliasPalette is a freeware and fat binary application.
It requires System 7.5 or greater.

AliasPalette can be freely included in the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Subject: [*] Computer Cuisine 3.01

NOTE: Computer Cuisine version 3.01 works with FileMaker Pro 3.0 or
LATER. If you have FileMaker 2.1, please download Computer Cuisine 3.0.
If you have any questions, please send email to:

Version 3.01 includes:
o Over 125 pre-entered recipes!
o Completely New Graphical Layout
o Easy conversion menu for easy calculations!
o Expanded Icons!
o Expanded Menu Buttons!
o Expanded Functions!
o ....and more!

The high quality graphics contained in this software package are simply
better than any other recipe program available for the Macintosh.

Have you ever wanted to find a particular recipe, but didn't want to sift
through pages and pages from your favorite cookbook? Have you ever
wanted to search all your recipes for a certain ingredient? Have you
ever wanted to give a particular recipe to a friend, without having to go
through the hassle of jotting down the thing word for word? Now you can.
And Computer Cuisine is the tool that will make it happen.

What is Computer Cuisine?
Computer Cuisine is a Macintosh file for use with FileMaker Pro, by
Claris Corporation. This template will allow you to conveniently view,
print, sort, file, organize and save your cooking recipes. It's features
include a well designed layout that makes adding, viewing, sorting,
finding and printing a snap. In addition to the simple layout, Computer
Cuisine allows you to add an infinite number of your own recipes to the
existing ones. This will allow your recipe database to grow and grow!

Buttons are added to the bottom of the layout for added convenience. For
example, you can sort all of your recipes with one click of your mouse.
Computer Cuisine will then alphabetically sort your recipes
alphabetically by the recipe's name. This creates an "index-like"
listing much like you may find in the back of any normal cookbook you may
own. And with the extensive search capabilities already built into the
program, you will now be able to search through all of the entered
recipes with the touch of a button! You don't even have to know the exact
name of the recipe, or ingredient.

Subject: [*] FilterTop 1.0 Release

FilterTop is a multipurpose file-processing utility program that provides
Macintosh users with the facilities of batch processing and pipelining,
formerly available only to users of operating systems with a command-line
interface, like Unix. These advantages allow Mac users to process from
one to thousands of files of any type at one time, performing numerous
different operations on these files in quick succession, all within the
context of the friendly graphical user interface Macintosh users expect
and deserve.

FilterTop comes with a set of more than fifty filters, program modules
that may be arranged in virtually limitless permutations and combinations
by dragging their icons between windows with the mouse. Similarly,
batches of files may be sent for processing to a saved group of filters,
called a SuperFilter, with a simple drag-and-drop operation.

To give just a few examples of what FilterTop can do, in a given
filtering operation the names of files may be changed, the contents of
the files altered, rearranged, or combined, specific characters or entire
words or phrases searched for and replaced, information extracted or
added. Sets of files of different kinds may be sent to separate folders
and even their types changed by changing their internal file-type and
"creator" codes. Lists may be alphabetized and have line numbers added.
MS-DOS or Unix file formats may be changed to Macintosh format and vice
versa. Any combination of these and many other operations may be
performed simultaneously with a click of the mouse. The results may be
timed, sent to a special monitor window, saved as new files, summarized
in a report, placed on the Clipboard all as the user desires.

FilterTop is a copyrighted but freely available product obtained by
anonymous FTP from the server at topsoft.org.

Comatose will help you prolong the life of your computer and save on
electricity while doing so!! It allows you to put your computer to sleep
rather than shut down the entire system. It works with all Macintoshes
Plus and later running system 7 or later and only 145K of memory.
Comatose spins down all hard drives on all SCSI buses and dim the screen
to black. The screen blacking allows some monitors to also power down,
adding to electricity savings. Your computer will run quieter when
comatosed and takes a fraction of time to start up when compared to
switching off or shut down. Comatose also has screen saver capability.
You can specify how many minutes before the screen dims and how many idle
minutes before drives spin down. Your computer will be able to wake up
with an incoming phone call, receive a fax and go back to sleep. Perfect
for using that old Mac sitting in the closet as a stand alone fax!

Key features:
- Auto Spin down/Screen Off
- Screen Saver & Energy Star Support
- Password protection

New in version 4.0:

Subject: [*] Fonts Manager 2.0 (Sneak Preview)

The only change is a newer SNEAK PREVIEW of Fonts Manager 2.0. The new
version will NOT require AppleScript at all and will run on ANY MAC with
System 7.1 or later, up to System 7.5.3. Turn on Balloon Help and check it
out!

Fonts Manager(tm) 2.0 is functionally similar to the System 7.5.x Extensions
Manager. It allows the importing, viewing, enabling, and disabling of font
suitcases in 'Sets' and supports Balloon help. Unlike other utilities, such
as Suitcase(tm) and Master Juggler(tm), it works on ALL Macs with System 7.1
or later, including 7.5.3, without interfering with the NORMAL operation of
your computer. Have over 700 testimonials from customers with PCI-based
PowerMacs running System 7.5.2 that have switched to Fonts Manager to get
their businesses back 'Up & Running'. Also, have over 900 from users of older
Macs, who just can't stand to use Suitcase any longer, and have instead
switched to Fonts Manager.

NEW: A SNEAK PREVIEW of Fonts Manager 2.0! Balloon help supported. Not
finished yet, but you'll be able to check for compatibility at least.

Type: Shareware $15 for Fonts Manager 2.0 (FREE to registered users of
v.1.5.9sp for a LIMITED TIME ONLY). $25 for the Copland upgrade when

Font Sneak: The Ultimate Font Pre-Press Utility for Graphic Art &
Design Professionals

A pre-press power tool, Font Sneak is a must-have font utility for
anyone and everyone who uses fonts professionally. A stand-alone
application, Font Sneak quickly determines document font usage
information from a variety of file types and then allows the user to
easily collect the necessary fonts. Font Sneak supports QuarkXpress,
Illustrator and generic EPS file formats.

Font Sneak offers many unique and long-awaited professional font
reporting and pre-press features: reports to the user all fonts used by
the document, any fonts used by the document which are not currently
installed and offers the user several font collection options --
collect all document fonts for accurate pre-press output or collect
fonts not currently installed for quick system installation. Unlike
existing font pre-press and reporting applications and extensions, Font
Sneak collects all of the necessary document fonts, regardless of
whether those fonts are currently installed, and can even collect
entire font families (folders).

This is fully functional version of Font Sneak, but is limited to the
collection of 2 fonts and the annoyance of a splash screen.

IconFixer "fixes" a cosmetic "feature" caused by DriveSetup. What
happens is that if you partition your drive, sometimes your custom icons

probably could.

According to Apple:

The third workaround is to run IconFixer. IconFixer basically modifies
the creation dates on your drives to make sure that they're all just
slightly different, and your icons should then appear properly.

IgorHelpFilesDemo.sit.hqx
Help and other support files. You need this.
IgorExamplesDemo.sit.hqx
Demo files that show you why IGOR Pro is cool.
You need this, too.
IgorTechnotesDemo.sit.hqx
Technical notes are Word 5 files and IGOR experiments explaining
how to use IGOR to accomplish common tasks. Included are technotes
about statistics x-test, digital signal processing, peak measurement
and fitting, ternary graphs, complex arithmetic, and a batch file
demonstration experiment. We have more than are included in this

After downloading, uncompress the files with something like
Stuffit 3.0, or StuffIt Expander. You will then have one folder

Subject: [*] Internet ToolKit for 4D (ITK) v1.0.4 update/demo

Here is version 1.0.4 of Internet ToolKit for 4D (best known as ITK) which
fixes some problems found in ITK 1.0.3 and add some support to
OpenTransport (see enclosed Readme file with the
distribution file).

You can also have a look at some demonstrations made with ITK at:
http://www.jca.fr/jca/itk/demo/

What is Internet ToolKit for 4D ?
=================================
ITK is an 4D external package that provides full TCP and UDP support
directly inside 4D's language plus a lot of other useful routines to
encode/decode data into Internet standards (HTML, ISO, URL, etc)...

What can you do with Internet ToolKit ?
=======================================
In a few words, any kind of internet client or server application (email,
ftp, www, dns, gopher, news, etc) because ITK offers a low level access to
TCP/IP and UDP. ITK transforms 4D into real server, not just a CGI.

What are the main features of Internet ToolKit ?
================================================
ITK gives the developpers easy access to the following:
- access to low-level TCP/IP and UDP using MacTCP,
- access to DNS (name to IP and IP to name),
- control the state of MacPPP (to open or close PPP connection),
- access to Internet Config preferences (get or set preferences),
- utility features to convert text to or from HTML encoding, MacBinary,
BinHex, URL encoding and ISO 8859-1 encoding, RFC date conversion,
- picture related routines to convert and send pictures (JPEG and GIF),
- some goodies like StopWatch routines and inter process communication
(message FIFO),
- ready-to-use examples for SMTP, POP3, HTTP, FTP...

ITK is a commercial product distributed by JCA Telematique directly through
the Internet. For North America, ITK is distributed by Foresight Inc
(http://www.fsti.com).

It's also a nice example of what can (and can't) be done with JavaScript.

The package contains all the necessary .html and .gif files to play

Subject: [*] MortalPongbat 1.4.0

Mortal Pongbat 1.4.0
Now with Zippy-Speed~

What is it?
Mortal Pongbat is Pong, taken to a whole new level of vicious,
friend-losing fun.

It runs in 256 colors (automatically changed for your convenience) on
any 68020 (or better) Mac running system 7.1 or later, with 1MB
(actually it only requires about 700k) of free RAM.
There should be two copies available on this archive, the 68k version
for 68000-based Macs and a PPC version for PowerPC Macs.

Take original, plain vanilla Pong, add the following features, shake
vigorously and you get Mortal Pongbat:

1. Really cool graphics and effects
2. Neato nifty sounds
3. A beam weapon to burn holes in the other guy's paddle
4. Autonomous Mines bouncing around the field endangering your very
existence as a player
5. Multiple brightly colored pucks
6. Pods that block and bounce the pucks, and contain prizes for you to get
7. Prizes (as mentioned above) like: Invincibility, More Pucks, Bigger
Beam, Fix Shield
8. Two person play, as well as person vs. computer play.

How much?
Mortal Pongbat is shareware.
This simply means that if you like it and play it with friends, family,
pets or household appliances, you should probably go to the trouble of
sending me a friendly letter and a check for $20.

If you hate it, throw it away, wash your hands, and write me to tell me why.

Changes:
1.4.0:
Rewrote the graphics code for more speed, and got it! The game is now
about 5 times as responsive.
A couple new sounds.
Tie games are now called tie games.
Better, smoother transitions and nicer graphics (new swirlies are nice, yes?)

This is a slant print manuscript handwriting font I've worked on, on and
off, for several months. It is incomplete. The basic alphabet is in, but
certainly not perfect. I am hoping to use this font for "handwriting" and
spelling papers for my students. It comes from an old handwriting packet
I've had for years from a school corporation I used to work for. I scanned
it into the computer and used Fontographer 4.1 to autotrace and fine-tune
it a bit. It includes the basic upper and lower case letters, numbers, and
a bit of punctuation: That's all! Letter weight and shape, spacing, and
kerning all still need work. Someday, I'd like to include a ball and stick
alphabet typeface as the plain and this font as the italic. I'm releasing
this "beta" to solicit comments, suggestions, etc.

New since the 1.2 release are:

- modifications to the shapes of several characters for even better
readability,
- a 7 pt bitmap version of ProFont,
- an ISOLatin1 encoded version of ProFont,
- a new Control Panel called "Monaco Tuner" which simplifies the sub-

1.2's complex installation instructions for "ProFont(Monaco)", and
- a suitcase containing the 9 pt size of version 1.2 of ProFont.

ProFont Distribution 2.0 includes bitmap and outline (both TrueType and
Adobe Type 1) versions of ProFont and ProFontISOLatin1 and (finally!)
simple instructions for arranging to see ProFont 9 wherever Monaco 9 would

>P.S. I have the latest version.

Just in the last two days.

I have had 7.5.3 running for about two weeks, with RAM Doubler 1.6.1.
"Suddenly" I cannot copy files between my PB520c and a Windows 3.1 box
using the PB (works fine if I'm stationed at the Windows box), using a
10baseT eithernet and Personal MacLAN on the Windows box (the windows box
is connected to two others on a 10baseT using Windows 3.1 for Workgroups
network). I can, from within applications, do saves between the volumes (a
reason I use Microsoft Office) without any problems.

I have noticed the freeze on the PB usually after the transfer of about 10
- 20k (a couple of small files will go through, then the freeze). The files
that 'make' it through will not open on the windows machine unless I shut
down the PB (Windows box says they are in use), so I suspect that they are
not completed (?)

I had no problems in the past. The only change: I ran Norton Speed Disk 3.1
on the PB the day before I noticed the problem. I really did not attribute
the problem to RAM Doubler at this point since copying was working before
Speed Disk.
