Subject: [*] File eXpress 1.0v0
File eXpress 1.0v0 has arrived!
File eXpress allows you to send any file on your Mac to any
other machine running File eXpress just by "dropping" the item
to send on a mailbox icon in the Finder. File eXpress also
creates a single "Inbox" folder on your desktop where you'll be
able to quickly access items sent to you by other File eXpress
users.
This release provides a drag-and-drop interface for asynchronous
document transfer services over BOTH AppleTalk and TCP/IP
networks, along with built in compression to optimize your file
transfers.
Changes since the initial Delta releases include a completely
revised user interface, the addition of the FX*Control Panel to
adjust FX*Engine settings, support for Open Transport 1.1,
leaner-meaner compression, and an enhanced FX*Engine which can
now be controlled via AppleScript without launching the
FX*Packager.
Changes since Beta 2 include bug fixes, better networking with
Open Transport and a reduction of how often the "Register Now..."
option presents itself (ie. only once per reboot as originally
designed). We've also disabled the "Glowing Network Cables"
effect for incoming packages to keep the Finder from leaking
memory over time.
Registered users of any of the Delta releases of File eXpress
may continue to use their registration codes.
Many thanks for your Support!
As always, feel free to send your comments, questions or
suggestions to [email protected].

Subject: [*] Fonts Manager 1.5.9sp
Fonts Manager(tm) is functionally similar to the System 7.5.x Extensions
Manager. It allows the importing, viewing, enabling, and disabling of font
suitcases in 'Sets' and supports Balloon help. Unlike other utilities, such
as Suitcase(tm) and Master Juggler(tm), it works on ALL Macs with System 7.5
or later, including 7.5.3, without interfering with the normal operation of
your computer. Have over 580 testimonials from customers with PCI-based
PowerMacs running System 7.5.2 that have switched to Fonts Manager to get
their businesses back 'Up & Running'. Also, have over 600 from users of older
Macs, who just can't stand to use Suitcase any longer, and have instead
switched to Fonts Manager.
NEW: Command-Q now quits the application, as does closing the Fonts Manager
window.
Supports the following options: Using with Adobe Type Manager 3.8.2 or
later, a Help menu, Balloon Help throughout, IMPORT fonts from folders/disks
other than the Fonts folder, Export 'Sets' feature for update to newer
version, automatic installation, set replacement, alphabetical font lists,
Preferences menu for broad customization including adding an alias of the
Fonts folder to the Apple Menu, adjustable color settings in most windows,
indefinite registration period, international MacOS support (US, Bulgarian,
Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Kanji, Norwegian, Polish,
Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish in this version),
and multiple licensing options.

Subject: [*] Italian Verbs - language program
Italian Verbs is an application that helps you learn and refresh your
knowledge about conjugation rules of Italian verbs.
Features
The program comes with the predefined database of 120 irregular Italian verbs.
You can freely add new verbs and modify existing ones. You can easily add
comments to every verb. This is convenient to store the example sentences
associated with given verb. The conjugation rules are presented for all
available Modi, Tempi combinations. You can find there even more information
about each verb (ausiliare, intransitivo/transitivo, conj. pattern number,
English translation, part. presente, part. passato, gerundio). You can
associate a sound (record sound using a microphone and play it back) with
each verb. The program has the exercises window. It is useful to determine
if your knowledge is sufficient. You can keep the verbs that you have
learned already in the separate list and let the program generate exercises
just for this group of verbs. You can also attach databases prepared by
other users to your own verbs database.

Subject: [*] LocalTalk Bridge Open Transport Patch
This patch will make the necessary change to Apple LocalTalk Bridge
software that will allow it to work under Open Transport. This particular
patch will ONLY patch LocalTalk Bridge 2.x. A separate patcher is available
for the LaserWriter Bridge software.
This patch should work with all Macintosh computers (including PCI based
Macintoshes) using Open Transport (version 1.0.8 or later). BUT, as this
patch has not been extensively tested, it is a 'hack' and should be treated
as such.
This patch is NOT supported by Apple Computer, Inc., so please don't ask
them for technical support.
Please read the legal stuff before you apply this patch.
What this patch does...
Apple's LocalTalk Bridge software was designed to check for a specific
version of AppleTalk software. Because Open Transport registers itself as a
more recent version, this program currently will not launch without this
patch. An Apple-supported update for Open Transport-compatibility is
currently underway. Apple will announce availability and distribution of an
update in the near future.
Please read through the documentation before applying the patch.

Subject: [*] Russian Spell Check 1.93
Following is the Info from the author (Christer Andreasson):
_______________________________________________________________________________
What is Russian Spell Check? It is a program that checks Russian text
documents for spelling errors.
Primarily, it is a tool, designed for students of the Russian
language, but it will, of course, serve native Russian users as well.
Please, take a look at what is in this package.
1. User's Manual
2. The Russian Spell Check program (version 1.93).
3. A Russian Dictionary (over 65,000 words).
4. Grammar Coverage text file.
5. A sample text for testing the program - called "Oxygen City."
6. Registration card.
7. Version History text file.
8. Requirements text file.
9. Spelling Coverage text file.
10. ASCII Font Table text file (including pictures).
11. Sample KOI8 text file - "Sample.KOI8" - is included.
12. A temporary spelling Dictionary "MySD.TXT".
13. A file containing geographical entries.
14. A preference file, called "RSC-090.Pref".
15. A Grammar Reference Table - suitable for printout. Use it as a
handy guide.
The included Dictionary contains words and renderings of words - a
total of over 65,000 words. This version of the program makes it possible
to store 90,000 words. Upon registering You may order Russian Spell Check
with larger storage capability.
The included sample document "Oxygen City," is a short children's
story, which has yet to be corrected. This makes it possible to try out the
program immediately.
The font and installation of Russian script, have their origins from
Internet, where they are available as freeware.

Subject: [*] SliceWatch 1.0.5
This version contains all the ancillary documentation and example files
missing from the previous (1.0.4) upload.
Version 1.0.4 contained a corrupted resource, that causesd the database to
crash on some specific models of Macintosh. This has been corrected.
SliceWatch is a database application designed to allow you to manage,
manipulate, and report on (time) data captured in any Macintosh time
recording application. That is, SliceWatch is a time management reporting
application.
SliceWatch was initially designed to allow you to store and manipulate
(text) data files exported from Maui Software's TimeSlice and TimeTracker
time recording applications. These two applications allow you to easily
record time spent in your daily activities. SliceWatch is the back-end
database that allows you to view, manipulate, print and summarise your time
records so that you can see where you're spending your time.
SliceWatch can also be used with any application that allows you to record
segments of your time in a similar manner to TimeSlice or TimeTracker-as
long as you can export the data from your time recording program, you
should be able to use SliceWatch.
SliceWatch is not designed as replacement or alternative to your time
recording applications, rather it's designed to be used in conjunction with
those applications to allow you to see how much time you're spending doing
various activities. Some of the advantages of using SliceWatch include:
* store one or more users time records in a single database, allowing
you to print reports for all people in your company, or for a single
person,
* graph the time you have spent doing various activities over several
time frames (e.g. weekly, monthly etc)
* perform complex searches so that you can print a report. For
example, search for all time records for Client X, created between, June 1
1995 and Oct1 1995, which have either the category 'A', or 'B', and are for
Project 'Y' only.
* create your own ad hoc report styles. That is, if the built in
reports don't provide the data you require, you can define your own report

Subject: [*] SoundApp 2.0
I'm happy to announce the availability of SoundApp 2.0. SoundApp is the
premiere sound playback and conversion utility for the Macintosh. It is
suitable for use as a sound-playing helper application with any of the
popular WWW browsers, in addition to managing a collection of favorite
sound samples and stand-alone usage. SoundApp remains freeware, so you
may use it at no cost. Information regarding licensing the conversion
and playback routines can be found in the About Box documentation.
SoundApp 2.0 contains the following enhancements:
* Completely rewritten in C++ using Metrowerks CodeWarrior and
PowerPlant as a fat binary for native PowerPC performance,
* Support for multiple Play Lists with full drag and drop support,
including drag conversion to the Finder,
* Improved Status window that contains more information and a progress
indicator,
* Added support for the following formats:
- IMA 4:1 and mu-law in AIFF/AIFC, 'snd ' resources and QuickTime
movies,
- IMA 4:1, mu-law and a-law in WAVE files,
- IRCAM,
- MPEG audio layers I and II on PowerPC computers, and
- ScreamTracker 3 (S3M) files using the ZSS driver.
* Conversion of QuickTime movies without an intermediate file,
* Conversion options to force mono/stereo and 8-/16-bit output and to
"DOSify" output filenames,
* Revamped Preferences dialog,
* Enhanced AppleScript support for playback and conversion,
* Rewrote the Help text, and created a better-looking application icon.
SoundApp 2.0 requires the following:
* At least a 68020 or PowerPC-based Macintosh (sorry 68000 users!),
* System 7.0 or greater, and
* Sound Manager 3.1 or greater (3.1 can be obtained from Apple and 3.2
is included in System 7.5.3).
In addition, the following optional items are recommended:
* QuickTime 2.0 or greater for QuickTime support,
* The Drag Manager for drag and drop use in the Play Lists (part of
System 7.5 and later),
* A PowerPC-based Macintosh for MPEG support and better performance.

Time Stamp allows you to insert the date and or time into any text field in the
Newton. It replaces the standard popup menu of punctuation characters with one
that includes two new new icons, one which inserts the date and one which
inserts the time.
There is a Preference panel added to the "Prefs" application (this can be found
in the "Setup" folder in the Extras drawer). This panel will let you choose
which date and time format you prefer.
Time Stamp is free but all rights are reserved by Scott Jenson. It can also be
freely distributed as long as this read me file is included with the

Anytime you enter text in your Mac by typing it at the keyboard,
TypeIt4Me can help you do it faster and more accurately.
First you define a number of abbreviations and the full text entries that
they represent, then you watch the Mac expand them on the fly even as you
continue typing!
Abbreviations can represent any text you like:
- a long, hard-to-type word such as 'supercalifragilisticexpiralidosius'
or 'benzo-methyl-tricarbo-something-or-other';
- your name and address;
- a standard end of letter salutation;
- an entire paragraph of legal or medical text;
- a short word that you often misspell (such as 'teh' instead of 'the');
- just about anything else you need to type often.

Subject: [*] vListMngr1.0
SUMMARY
vListMngr is a package (source code) of Pascal routines which implement
creation and
management of Lists with variable column width, and up to four lines of header
text per column. The column headers behave like spreadsheet headings, staying
fixed on the screen while the cells scroll vertically, and tracking the columns
when cells are scrolled horizontally. vListMngr also provides utilities for
multiple cell selection and copying and editing cell text. The programming
interface to vListMngr is very similar to that of the standard List Manager,
and
existing programs will require very little modification to incorporate the new
features. However, this version of vListMngr does not support some
standard List
Manager capabilities, such as custom LDEF's, the Search function, or selection
flags.
The archive contains a 68K demo program, documentation, and THINK Pascal source
code for vListMngr and the demo program. The package was written to provide
flexible entry of fairly large tables of data for scientific instrument control
systems and has been tested on several 68000 - 68040 machines under System 6,
System 7.1, and System 7.5. The code may be used, modified, and distributed
freely provided that no profit is derived therefrom and the author is duly
credited.

Fonts Manager(tm) is functionally similar to the System 7.5.x Extensions

their businesses back 'Up & Running'.

That is, if the built in
reports don't provide the data you require, you can define your own report
styles (which can be saved for future use).

* Conversion of QuickTime movies without an intermediate file,
* Conversion options to force mono/stereo and 8-/16-bit output and to
"DOSify" output filenames,
* Revamped Preferences dialog,
* Enhanced AppleScript support for playback and conversion,
* Rewrote the Help text, and created a better-looking application icon.
SoundApp 2.0 requires the following:
* At least a 68020 or PowerPC-based Macintosh (sorry 68000 users!),
* System 7.0 or greater, and
* Sound Manager 3.1 or greater (3.1 can be obtained from Apple and 3.2
is included in System 7.5.3).
In addition, the following optional items are recommended:
* QuickTime 2.0 or greater for QuickTime support,
* The Drag Manager for drag and drop use in the Play Lists (part of
System 7.5 and later),
* A PowerPC-based Macintosh for MPEG support and better performance.

which date and time format you prefer.
Time Stamp is free but all rights are reserved by Scott Jenson. It can also be
freely distributed as long as this read me file is included with the
TimeStamp.pkg file.
If you use it, please feed the programmer: send him email at [email protected]
Don't worry, bugs and comments accepted equally.
TimeStamp only works on Newton 2.0 or later.

Subject: [*] TimeTracer 1.0 DEMO
TimeTracer is a time-tracking application for cybercafes, copycenters, or
anyone who rents out computer time to the public.
TimeTracer
* Tracks user time, and optionally prints a receipt
* Has security precautions built in
* Is a fat-binary application (non-demo version only)
* Keeps a system log in the event of a system crash.
* Optionally keeps a time log file for logging system activity.
* And a lot of other stuff-try the demo and see for yourself!
TimeTracer does not
* count printer useage, however, this may change in a future version.
Pricing has not yet been determined, but it is expected to be highly
competitive.

Subject: [*] TypeIt4Me 4.5.1
Anytime you enter text in your Mac by typing it at the keyboard,
TypeIt4Me can help you do it faster and more accurately.
First you define a number of abbreviations and the full text entries that
they represent, then you watch the Mac expand them on the fly even as you
continue typing!
Abbreviations can represent any text you like:
- a long, hard-to-type word such as 'supercalifragilisticexpiralidosius'
or 'benzo-methyl-tricarbo-something-or-other';
- your name and address;
- a standard end of letter salutation;
- an entire paragraph of legal or medical text;
- a short word that you often misspell (such as 'teh' instead of 'the');
- just about anything else you need to type often.

For the Macintosh enthusiast who doesn't want to wait for Copland, UnDoIt!
is a shareware utility that lets you undo most Finder commands. Unlike the
current Finder undo that is restricted to edit commands on text fields,
UnDoIt! undoes Finder actions on most desktop objects including volumes,
folders, and documents. UnDoIt! can undo after you close, move, unmount
volume and more.

The code may be used, modified, and distributed
freely provided that no profit is derived therefrom and the author is duly
credited.

Subject: [*] WASTE Object Handlers 1.2.1 release
The WASTE Object Handlers are a companion to Marco Piovanelli's WASTE
text engine. They require WASTE to work, and WASTE can be found at:
. This C code library gives
"drop and play" functionality to your WASTE-based projects to allow
you to handle objects such as PICT's, sounds, HFS/file objects in your
WASTE documents. Additionally, this library's handlers extend WASTE's
drag-and-drop functionality to include objects of this kind.
A must for anyone using WASTE.
I am the co-author of the handlers along with the main author, Michael
Kamprath .
For more information about the handlers, please see it's enclosed README
document (it's not THAT big to download)

reccomend 3rd Encounter or the Commercial version. About 889K, I think.

Subject: Sound setting on 6100
Sound settings not retaining the setting.
This problem is occurring on several 6100/60AVs in a lab setting. The
configuration includes 16MB ram, a 14" AV monitor and they are running a
very clean install of 7.5.3. Once you set the Sound Control Panel to
recognize the built-in mic on the monitor, the setting switches back to
the plug-in mic on restart. Is there any way to make the Sound In stay
on built-in? Anybody want to write a quick and dirty script to do this?
Please reply to [email protected] and I will repost the suggestions to
Info-Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
