Subject: [*] Aaron's BeBox 1.3 - An Aaron 1.3.1 Enhancer (update)
What's new in version 1.3 of Aaron's BeBox?
------------------------------------------
1. Aaron's BeBox is now being distributing as freeware.
2. A BeBox-style FIM resource file is included, for use with the popular
custom folder icon maker, Folder Icon Maker.
3. The patches have been recreated with ResCompare 2.5.3. I have a hunch
that there might be a bug with ResCompare 2.6, since I've received several
reports of problems I've been unable to reproduce.
What is Aaron's BeBox?
---------------------
Aaron's BeBox is a free package designed to enhance the popular
"Coplandizing" extension, Aaron, written by Greg Landweber and Edward Voas.
Aaron's BeBox has several options that allow the user to choose several
different ways customize their copy of Aaron.
Aaron's BeBox's original life's purpose was to change Aaron's Copland-style
folders and icons to the refrshingly different folders featured in the BeBox,
a new computer platform from Be, Inc. I heartily recommend you check out the
BeBox for yourself. Just point your Web browser to
Aaron's BeBox has a few other nice features. It disables the spinning Zoom
Rects in the Finder, displays a more aesthetically correct WindowShade and
Zoom Box widget.
New in this release are three other patches that let you adjust Aaron's
spinning Zoom Rects in the Finder. Applying these patch to Aaron's BeBox will
not only give you the chance to enable the spinning Zoom Rects in the Finder,
but you will also have the option to change the number of steps to either 20
or even 30. This creates a much, much smoother spinning effect, but it does
slow down your Finder a bit, so I don't recommend using these patches on a
slow computer.
Aaron's BeBox also has a Copland Trash Patch. If you're not satisfied with
the Aaron's BeBox's Trash can, you can use this patch to have Aaron's BeBox
display a Copland-style Trash can.

Subject: [*] Adam's plug-in 1.0.6 (new and improved - it's got Moxy!)
Howdy folks!
Enclosed is the latest and greatest version of my Eudora Plug-in (v1.0.6)
which adds the following panels to your Eudora Settings (from the Read-Me):
Color/Desktop: Let's you change some of the colors that Eudora uses and how
much of the Desktop you see.
X-Headers: Let's you add your own X-Headers (it's fun. Trust me!).
Misc. Settings: Changes the Send button text, default text strings and the size
that files are split at. You can also change the (Recipient List Suppressed) to
whatever you want.....
Stationery/Text: Change the stationery file name and tweak how text appears, as
well as editing stuff for forwards.
Ports and Protocols: For the real geeks among us, change how long it takes
before Eudora barfs on you, what port you use or the protocols that you're
using.
Attributions: Instead of "? wrote:", make it something snazzy and insert an
extra .
Date/Time: Change how Eudora displays the time and dates for messages
sent/received.
Connections: Tweak some minor settings for your connections.
Disk Space: Some settings for compacting and buffer size.
From: Change how the From: address reads (ie "Real Name " instead of
"user@host (Real Name)")
Logging: Change what is logged and what ain't, as well as the size of your
logging files.
Suppressed Headers: That's right, suppress the headers that bug you! Normally
done with ResEdit, now via Eudora!
If you like it, all I ask is some email telling me that you use it, and if you
don't, then tell me what you don't like and I'll see what I can do!
Thanks,
adam

APT_402_to_404_Updater.hqx is a patching utility that updates previously
installed copies of APS PowerTools v4.0.2 (ONLY) and its associated files
(the APT Extension and APS Mounter) to the current version 4.0.4.
THIS PATCHER IS NOT DESIGNED TO WORK WITH VERSIONS EARLIER THAN 4.0.2. IF
YOU HAVE AN EARLIER VERSION, YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE APT 4.0.4 UNIVERSAL
UPDATER. IF YOU _DO_ HAVE VERSION 4.0.2, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THIS UPDATER,
WHICH IS SMALLER, AND REQUIRES LESS TIME TO DOWNLOAD.
Although several improvements have been made in PowerTools since its initial
release, the most important recent change has been in its ability to solve
spontaneous data corruption that may occur on some internally installed hard
drives, such as the Quantum Fireball family.
Many high performance disk drives available for Macintosh computers utilize
an on-board hardware write-cache mechanism. Although these devices can
enhance disk performance, they may also require special consideration in
their driver software to avoid the loss of data on shutdown.
A complete description of the data corruption problem is included with this
updater, as well as a revision history.

Subject: [*] Arnold's Midi Player 2.5.2b
Shareware $10 or a nice postcard if you're a poor student.
A.M.P is an application that plays any MIDI file on the Macintosh itself or
on an external synthesizer. It is very fast because it doesn't need to
parse the whole MIDI file as true sequencers do (but it can also parse any
file very quickly if you want to have more control).
Just drag and drop a MIDI file on its icon or its window and the song is
playing! You can change controllers and programs, build song lists like a
junke-box... Moreover A.M.P. is MIDI Karaoke aware.
A.M.P. needs
- a Mac LC with system 7.0 (or better) and "Macintosh Drag and Drop"
extension (inclued in system 7.5). System 7.5 or better is recommanded.
- QuickTime 2 extensions or Apple MIDI Manager extensions or OMS extensions
or MIDIShare extensions
You can choose between two kinds of MIDI output:
- QuickTime Music (to play with the Mac internal sound circuit)
- Apple MIDI Manager / Opcode Open Music System / MIDIShare (to play on
real external MIDI devices on the Modem/Printer port).
What's new in 2.5.1b/2.5.2b ?
- Multi-list "Songs" window (2.5.2b fixes the scrollbar bug)
- Faster file parsing
- "Save Lyrics" command

Subject: [*] BibTeX for Mac PowerPC Version 1.01
What is BibTeX?
BibTeX is the bibliography handling tool related to the TeX/LaTeX
typesetting system (available on almost all conceivable OS platforms).
When a document is typeset with LaTeX, an auxiliary file (with extension
'.aux') is generated. This auxiliary file contains, amongst other things,
a list of references (to books, articles, research reports, web-url's,...)
cited in the original document. BibTeX takes this list, together with the
name of a style file (extension '.bst') and a list of bibliography
databases (extension '.bib') which are also given in the auxiliary file,
and produces a wonderfully formatted list of references which the LaTeX
system subsequently (and automatically) appends to your typeset document.
Hence BibTeX is really not at all useful without TeX/LaTeX (there are
several freeware/shareware/commercial versions for the MacOS: OzTeX,
CMacTeX, DirecTeX Pro, Textures). It is useful to have a good text editor
which knows about the particular format of LaTeX documents: on the Mac, the
editor Alpha is indispensible in this regard, both for editing and for its
apple-event communication with the various parts of a LaTeX system.
========================================================================
It has no known bugs, however, use at your own risk;
there is no warranty....
Features:
* it works;
* copes with both Unix and Mac standard eol characters.
* reasonably fast (the original bibtex code is sadly not up to scratch
as far as efficieny goes);
* support high-level apple events etc. so you can drag a '.aux' file (or
several) onto it for processing, or send it an odoc event from
Alpha...
* friendly to other apps (actually calls WaitNextEvent);
* Fat binary; also runs on 68k (but with less testing);
* Source code available;
* Common search path for both .bst and .bib files, although you
can of course keep them in separate directories if you like.
This version of BibTeX is totally free.
Recent changes:
1.01 Copes with Unix as well as Mac EOL characters
1.0 Original; soon to be distributed with OzTeX 2.0

This is ClickPad II version 2.0.4, Copyright (c) 1996 Dan Wright. ClickPad
II is free to individual users.
ClickPad II requires a PowerBook with a TrackPad; specifically, the
PowerBook 190, 500, and 5300 families are supported. You can now just tap
the TrackPad to click the mouse button, double-tap to double-click, or
tap-drag to lock the button down for dragging.
Features New or Improved in ClickPad II:
* Compared to the original ClickPad, ClickPad II is more responsive
during heavy trackpad usage and "dozes" when you stop using the trackpad to
reduce CPU & power usage (and so allowing your PowerBook to sleep).
* You can now "lock" the trackpad button down, allowing drags and menu
selections without using the (physical) trackpad button. Way cool.
* ClickPad II provides optional audio feedback.

Subject: [*] DropReception 2.2
Intelligent Application Launch Utility
Macintosh has very useful method for openning file called "Drag & Drop".
Since I like this method, I used "Drag & Drop" commonly to openning file.
So I put many aliases of applications on the desktop for using this method.
However my desktop is very crowded with many application's icons.
DropReception is best solution for this sort of case. By using the DropRecep
tion, you can drop file into any application through the DropReception.
DropReception learns relationship of file type and applications.
So any Drag & Drop will be relaid to suitable application by the
DropReception.
The version 2.2 of DropReception supports InternetConfig.
DropReception inquire suitable application to the InternetConfig,
when you dropped file that has unknown extension.
Requires 68020 or later.
This software is free.
It may be freely copied and distributed except commercial use.
Enjoy!

LaserWriter Bridge OT patch
This is the last release of the LaserWriter Bridge OT patch that will be
made. As the release date for Apple's Open Transport-compatible LaserWriter
Bridge (version 2.1) is approaching, there will no longer be a need for
this patch. Please 'upgrade' to Apple's Open Transport-compatible version
when it become available, as it is far superior to the hacked copy this
patch will create.
The differences between this patch and previous versions:
* Now includes two patch applications: one for the LaserWriter
Bridge software installed with System 7.5 Update 2.0, and one
for the LaserWriter Bridge software from Apple's Network
Software Installer 1.5.1-ZM.
For those that don't know what this patch does:
* This patch will make the necessary change to LaserWriter Bridge
that should allow it to work with Open Transport. It will NOT
work on versions of LaserWriter Bridge prior to 2.0.1.
* The patch should work on all Macs (including PCI Macs) using
Open Transport (version 1.0.8 or later), but as this patch has
not been tested extensively, it is considered a 'hack' and it
should be treated as such.
NOTE: This patch is NOT supported by Apple Computer, Inc., so please don't
ask them for technical support.
Please read through the documentation before applying the patch.

Attached is a simple AppleScript that runs Fetch every 3 seconds to break
through to a busy FTP site. This script will try continuously for an hour
before giving up. I saw and learned from "Anarchie Busy Buster", and feel
this is a more rugged implementation, using the wonderful Fetch FTP
application.
Enjoy!

Subject: [*] rnMac 2.0d0 - An NNTP-based offline newsreader
This is the first release of v2.0 of rnMac, an NNTP-based offline
newsreader. This is a development release, not even a beta release yet, so
beware of bugs. Actually, I'd like to hear about any bugs users encounter,
since I'm planning to go beta with it in the next couple of weeks.
This program allows the user to download Usenet news from an NNTP server
and read it later at the user's leisure, thus saving connection time and
charges.
The program has a built-in help window which should answer most questions
about its care and feeding.

Subject: [*] SURVIVAL 6.1.2. Final Release of Survival
HI EVERYBODY
I CONSIDER VERSION 6.1.2 AS THE FINAL RELEASE OF MY SURVIVAL ANALYSIS
PROGRAM. IT COSTED ME SWEATS AND BLOOD, LOTS OF COMPUTING TIME WITH MY OLD
LC AND PERHAPS A LITTLE FRUSTATION, BUT I'LL BE HAPPY IF IT IS USEFUL EVEN
FOR A SINGLE PERSON.
I'M OPENED TO SUGGESTIONS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO ENHANCE THE PROGRAM,
PROVIDED THAT IT HAS SOME LEVEL OF DIFFUSION IN THE NET (WHO KNOWS THAT ?)
. FUTURE CHALLANGES COULD BE THE ANALYSIS OF SURVIVAL DATA WITH COMPETING
RISKS AND MULTIVARIATE FAILURE TIME DATA ANALYSIS.
A FULL TUTORIAL WITH THE BASICS OF SURVIVAL ANALYSIS WITH PARAMETRIC AND
NOT PARAMETRIC MODELS IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT AND WILL BE ADDRESSED TO PEOPLE
(LIKE ME 10 YEARS BEFORE) WITH NULL OR MINIMAL MATHEMATICAL AND STATISTICAL
BACKGROUND. IT WILL BE POSTED TO SUMEX-AIM.STANFORD.EDU AS
SURVIVAL.TUTORIAL.HQX
CHANGES INTRODUCED TO VERSION 6.1.2 INCLUDE
-Plot of Residuals, 95% I.C. Intervals and Survival Functions (Survival,
Density and Hazard) have been implemented for Parametric Survival
analysis.
-The Survival Function for a given Parametric model is plotted by default
for the mean covariate value, if you don't specifiy a covariate pattern.
This avoids the ragged aspect of the graphics obtained in Version 6.1.1.
-A new macro for automated survival analysis with parametric models has
been added.
-Cosmetic changes have be done in some Dialog and Alert Windows and minor
typhos have been corrected.
-Plot of residuals and Survival Functions have been changed. Now individual
points are plotted insted of a continuos line.
Different data sets for testing parametric models, macros and a short summary
of
the history of Survival are included in the Survival.Doc folder

Subject: [*] VSamp 1.4
Anouncing VSamp : a multitimbral sample shareware program for the Macintosh.
VSamp is an OMS and Sound Manager compatible program that turns the Mac into a
multitimbral digital sampler.
Able to play up to 32 notes at once, this program is compatible with all OMS
MIDI sequencers, allowing the user to easily route MIDI information from the
sequencer to the program, producing high quality 8 or 16-bit samples with
sample rates from 11 to 44.1 kHz, all configured by the user.
Version 1.4 is a fat binary for all macs allowing up to 16 instruments (8 on
68k macs), each receiving on a unique MIDI channel and each with up to 16
samples per instrument.
VSamp does not require any additional hardware but supports all Sound Manager
compatible sound cards.
The latest version of VSamp (1.4) is now available which includes speed
improvements so that response is up to two times faster as well as an improved
interface and greater compatibility with third party sound cards.
