Subject: (Q) Mac relational databases
Dear Digest readers,
I've heard of 4th Dimension, and know about FileMaker Pro, but don't
know if it is possible to get them to import Microsoft Access
databases. I have DataViz MacLinkPlus 11.0, but it doesn't say in
its database translators either Microsoft Access or Filemaker Pro, or
4th Dimension for that matter. There is Microsoft Works in the
translators, but I don't think that is relational, and I don't know
where to get Microsoft works for the Mac. It is important the
database be relational, as we have multiple databases with common
fields that sometimes need to be linked together, and preferably over
a network of both PCs and Macs.

Version 1.5 adds the following options:
* Completely disable the caps-lock key

* Play subtle key-click sounds as keys are pressed
Because Kicho is an application and not an extension or control
panel, it can be activated and deactivated on-the-fly, without
restarting, and is unlikely to cause system conflicts. However, being
a background application, it's still invisible to the user.
Kicho requires Mac OS 8 and a PowerPC processor. It is sold as

These maps are freeware, so you can use and abuse them all you want, you
can give them to your friends, put them on any commercially available

AppleSingle and AppleDouble), BinHex, MacBinary (including MacBinary III),

helper application for decoding usenet binary attachments for newsreaders
that don't have a built-in decoder. It easily handles multiple attachments
per post and posts that have erroneously been encoded multiple times.

Subject: spreadsheet 16384 row limit (Q)
Dear Digest readers,
Appleworks 5.0.4, and Excel 5.0 both appear to have a limit of the
number of rows they will allow in their spreadsheet at 16384.
Anybody know of a spreadsheet program that does not have that limit?
I'd like to be able to sort my website logfile by its various
variables, and I am already at 22000 hits and counting. Now that
hard disks are large enough to handle such files, shouldn't someone
make a spreadsheet that can do that? Not to mention with 192MB of
RAM, it isn't as if I don't have enough memory to hold such a large
spreadsheet in memory.
On a similar topic, I noticed that Appleworks is a lot slower than
Excel is at saving large spreadsheets, and at simply inserting rows
in large spreadsheets. I have a spreadsheet with 800 rows, and 28
columns, and it really slows it down.
Excel 5.0 on the other hand won't show the sheet numbers in MacOS 9
and sometimes crashes with Type 10 errors, and it doesn't properly
sort Dates that are stored in text fields, whereas Appleworks does
properly sort dates in text fields.
Is Excel 98 any better at these features? Is Microsoft Works any
better at these features. I'd like to have some spreadsheet on my
Mac that is faster (I have a G3/233) and is capable of using
MacLinkPlus 11.0 and MacOS 9.0 without problems.

Dear Digest readers,
I've heard of 4th Dimension, and know about FileMaker Pro, but don't
know if it is possible to get them to import Microsoft Access
databases. I have DataViz MacLinkPlus 11.0, but it doesn't say in
its database translators either Microsoft Access or Filemaker Pro, or
4th Dimension for that matter. There is Microsoft Works in the
translators, but I don't think that is relational, and I don't know
where to get Microsoft works for the Mac. It is important the
database be relational, as we have multiple databases with common
fields that sometimes need to be linked together, and preferably over
a network of both PCs and Macs.

With World Clock CSM you can:
- rotate the displayed clocks so that minimum Control Strip space is
required (rotation speed can adjusted);
- display Universal Time (UTC) and Internet Time (BMT);
- configure your own cities and locations;
- move and sort clocks by time and city name;
- show date and weekday and apply different time formats to different clocks;
- add frequently used cities to World Clock menu;
- calculate date and time conversions.

What's new in World Clock CSM 2.7?
- The "Time Converter" dialog box has been added: it lets you easily
calculate corresponding dates & times in cities or locations belonging to
different time zones.
- Several problems concerning Internet Time have been fixed. First of all
Swatch beats from @000 to @099 are now correctly displayed using three
digits. Then a bug, which could cause the time not to be correctly updated
after a clock switched from Internet Time to a different time, has been
fixed. Finally the "Show Internet Time" command doesn't anymore affect the
current clock's time format (v2.6 hid seconds and AM/PM, if shown).
- An incompatibility with Extensions Strip which could lead to registration

YA-Decoder is a simple droplet designed to decode MIME Base64 (including
AppleSingle and AppleDouble), BinHex, MacBinary (including MacBinary III),
and uuencoded files that are dropped upon it. It is intended primarily as a
helper application for decoding usenet binary attachments for newsreaders
that don't have a built-in decoder. It easily handles multiple attachments
per post and posts that have erroneously been encoded multiple times.
YA-Decoder is $15 shareware. Version 3.0.1 is a free upgrade to anyone who
paid to register earlier versions of YA-Decoder. YA-Decoder 3.0.1 requires
System 8.5 or later and Internet Config 2.0 is strongly recommended for

Version 3.0 adds the ability to decode multi-part binary attachments that

Can anyone recommend a PCI sound capture card for a beige G3 mac so I
can transfer some old LP records onto CD ? The G3's built-in sound h/w
didn't give very good results (distortion at higher frequencies and I
couldn;t get it to record in stereo).

Subject: spreadsheet 16384 row limit (Q)
Dear Digest readers,
Appleworks 5.0.4, and Excel 5.0 both appear to have a limit of the
number of rows they will allow in their spreadsheet at 16384.
Anybody know of a spreadsheet program that does not have that limit?
I'd like to be able to sort my website logfile by its various
variables, and I am already at 22000 hits and counting. Now that
hard disks are large enough to handle such files, shouldn't someone
make a spreadsheet that can do that? Not to mention with 192MB of
RAM, it isn't as if I don't have enough memory to hold such a large
spreadsheet in memory.
On a similar topic, I noticed that Appleworks is a lot slower than
Excel is at saving large spreadsheets, and at simply inserting rows
in large spreadsheets. I have a spreadsheet with 800 rows, and 28
columns, and it really slows it down.
Excel 5.0 on the other hand won't show the sheet numbers in MacOS 9
and sometimes crashes with Type 10 errors, and it doesn't properly
sort Dates that are stored in text fields, whereas Appleworks does
properly sort dates in text fields.
Is Excel 98 any better at these features? Is Microsoft Works any
better at these features. I'd like to have some spreadsheet on my
Mac that is faster (I have a G3/233) and is capable of using
MacLinkPlus 11.0 and MacOS 9.0 without problems.
