Subject: (Q) MediaPlayer by Microsoft can't be downloaded
Dear Digest readers,
This is absurd, but when I go to Microsoft's Mediaplayer for
Macintosh website, I can't seem to get the link to the download page
to ever work. I want to be able to play Microsoft's streaming
video, as there is a nice Mediaplayer stream of Steve Jobs talking on
CNET. Does anyone have the latest version of Mediaplayer? Does it
work on MacOS 8.6 and G3/233 machine? If it does, please put it up
on an ftp site that I can download it from, as Microsoft certainly
isn't going to anytime soon. I have tried numerous times to download
from Microsoft's page with no success.
If it is under 5MB, please binhex it up, and let me know before you
e-mail it to me, as I have Cable internet.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Some time ago when I needed a new printhead for my Color StyleWriter
Pro, I found it at Sun Remarketing . That pumped
a bit more life into the old printer, but eventually it got finicky
again and I had to replace it.
I don't have the numbers in front of me right now, but I recall that
that new printhead was rather pricey. Considering the fairly low price
of color printers nowadays, you might consider retiring the CSP.

Subject: Error involving DNS
I had problems in connecting to the Internet with an iMac 266 -160 MB of
RAM and Mac OS 8.6 installed- after having using it with no problem at all.
Whatever browser of e-mail I was using I got messages which sayd that
theDNS was wrong -of course all the settings were the right ones.
Apple Technical Support Italia asked me whether I was using Remote Access
or FreePPP. I answered that I tried to use Remote Access but I preferred
FreePPP.
Hence they told me that I cannot use both: I must use only one of them and
trash the other one. Otherwise, some files get corrupted and it is
impossible to connect.
Hence, they suggested that I trashed both, reinstalled the system and set
again TCP/IP. Then I had to choose between Remote Access and FreePPP.
I followed their instructions and, eventually, I was able to connect again
to the Internet.
So, please, be very careful about mixing Remote Access and FreePPP.
Good luck!

You should use Astarte CD-Copy (also the demo may be good) to copy the
files on the Mac.
Put the blame on Apple, they decided to not support the Joliet
filesystem (made by Microsoft). Otherwise, tell hubby to make a cd-rom
using Romeo or Rockridge filesystems, that should be seen directly by
finder.
