Subject: [*] Active Memory 2.02 US personal organizer/database

Active memory is a personal organizer used as an application with MacOs 7
and later. It allows you to track personal, or group oriented, informations
and to organize in time your projects or day to day actions.

Active Memory has all the functions needed to define:

- the type of activities,
- their expiration date,
- the eventual list of participants,
- The alerts or events to take place at a given time, ...
(version 2.02 added color menu in text windows.)

Active Memory can import or export all your data to and from other
applications. It gives you the possibility to define macros that are
launched at a precise time. Using standard System 7 functionalities you can
Publish&Subscribe data, get balloon-help, or launch AppleEvents at a set
time and/or date.
Active Memory can also be used for real-time communications on a network.

it will work as a "lite" version if not registered.

Subject: [*] Airport IDs 2.3

** UPDATE **
Version 2.3 adds the following:
1. Calculates air distance between locations that have Lat/Long
information (many requests for this one)
2. Checks for datafile sent from finder (if you double-click the
datafile instead of the app)
3. Miscellaneous other stuff

Bundled with the application are the following files:
1. Airport IDs (3-letter)
2. Airline IDs (2-letter and 3-letter)
3. ATA Codes
4. Telephone Area Codes (US/Canada)

A 4-letter Airport ID datafile is available for separate download since
it is quite hefty (over 6600 records).

If you cannot locate a datafile that you want please check out:
http://www.netten.net/~montylee/AirportInfo.html

** OVERVIEW **
Airport IDs is a neat little utility that allows you to search for
Airport/City locations by name or ID code. It returns all records that
match your criteria (truncates list if over 32K characters). Registered
users can display the location on a world map and export/import the
database to make modifications/corrections as they desire.

Thank you to users who have previously registered Airport IDs; you do
not need to register this new version. The registration cost is only $7
(free for FedEx employees) so please register if you decide to keep this
program. Site licenses are available.

Subject: [*] Anarchie Download Menu Shortcut Patch

Sent: 14 October 1996

This patch utility simply adds a "Command-D" (for "Download") to the "Get
Selection" option of Anarchie's "FTP" menu. Since Anarchie uses "fmnu"
resources instead of the standard "MENU" variety, this patch may not be
straightforward to even some ResEdit users.

The patch's info screen explains why you may want to do this...

This ResCompare patch will probably only work on version 1.6 of Peter
Lewis' utility.

Subject: [*] atari-virtual-disk-edit-123.hqx

AtariVD Editor allows you to create and edit virtual disks for Atari 8-bit
computers on the Macintosh. The virtual disks can be used with Rainbow, Chris
Lam's Atari 800/800XL/130XE emulator for the Mac, or with any other Atari
8-bit emulator.

AtariVD Editor recognizes 8-bit virtual disk files in these formats:

.ATR: Nick Kennedy's SIO ATR file format with a 16 byte header.
.XFD: No header. File contains only the raw disk sectors.
.ATD: AtariDisk format. Has a 16 byte Macintosh header.

AtariVD Editor is capable of reading, writing, and creating virtual disks in
both Atari DOS 2.0/2.5 and MyDOS 4.5 formats. In MyDOS format, you can create
virtual disks from 720 to 65535 sectors of 128 or 256 bytes.

Supported Atari 8-bit disk formats:

810 Single density (720 128-byte sectors) - DOS 2.x/MyDOS 4.5.
1050 "Enhanced" density (1040 128-byte sectors) - DOS 2.x/MyDOS 4.5.
MyDOS 4.5.x disks from 720-65535 128/256-byte sectors. (90K-16MB)

A simple text conversion feature with built in ATASCII Macintosh text
conversion is also provided.

Changes in version 1.2.3, 10/10/96
* File/subdirectory rename command added.
* Added 40,960 sector option to virtual disk creation dialog.
* Arrow keys now scroll and wrap file directory selections correctly.
* Other minor internal tweaks and interface bug fixes.
* Fixed bug which caused extracted 8-bit files to be opened as a virtual
disk when double-clicked.
* 303 extra free sector bug with Atari DOS 2.5 enhanced density virtual
disks fixed.
* Fixed fatal bug which caused AtariVD Editor to interpret ATR files
converted to "standard" images by Rainbow as ATR files.
* Virtual disks with imported Atari DOS or MyDOS DOS files are now
bootable.

AtariVD Editor 1.2.3 is freeware.

Subject: [*] Autofile 2.1

Autofile 2.1 is a popular Filemaker Pro 3 database that provides
computerized storage, organization, and analysis of information about
your vehicles. Autofile provides complete reports: Expenses (yearly or a
total expense report) sorted by expense category, with expense/mile
costs); Oil change and tune-up history; Maintenance history; Repair
history; and Tax deductible expenses. There is a vehicle database for
vehicle identification info, calculates vehicle aging, insurance
payments, etc.), a detailed MPG report, a glossary of automotive terms,
a trouble-shooting database, a daily expense report, an accident report
and accident diagram, and a loan calculator.

With Autofile you will know if important maintenance events are overdue.
You can compare the relative costs of operating different vehicles;
identify duplicate repairs and troublesome parts, present a vehicle
maintenance and repair history when selling the vehicle, and bring your
vehicle repair/maintenance records to a mechanic if you have a portable
computer! Autofile is truly useful shareware.

Subject: [*] Church Windows 2.0

Sent: 15 October 1996

Church Windows is a Control Panel that allows you to change the
appearance, and behaviour, of the windows drawn by your Mac. It is
compatible with both Aaron and Kaleidoscope.

Version 2.0 is a major upgrade which now functions correctly under
System 7.5.5 and older PowerBooks. It requires System 7.0 or later and a
68030/030/040 or PowerPC processor. Church Windows is a fat binary, and
costs $15 to register with Kagi Shareware.

Features include:

o Twelve window styles (including Copland 3D, Darth Vader, Be,
Windows 3.1, Windows 95, NeXT, Reversed NeXT, Motif, Silicon Graphics,
OpenWindows, a PowerPC native System Seven, and a System Seven with
grow handles). Window colours and title characteristics (font, size,
style, alignment) can all be customised.
o Allows windows to be dragging in real-time, translucently (even on 68K
machines), or as an outline.
o Can make windows snap to smarter positions when dragging or resizing.
o Enables undocumented features within the System 7.5.5 Finder (Cmd-R to
reveal the original of an alias, Cmd-Drag to create an alias, and
Cmd-Delete to move the selection to the Trash).
o Can make the mouse 'sticky' when making menu selections, dragging
windows, or resizing windows (for ease of use when using a PowerBook
with a TrackPad).
o Allows the window outline drawn when dragging or resizing to be
changed (for greater visibility on PowerBook screens).
o Provides colour versions of the standard alert icons.

Subject: [*] eDOC 1.2 - an autonomous-document software

disponible.--

eDOC(tm) is a shareware program which enables preparation of so-called
"autonomous" or "portable" documents from most Macintosh applications. Such
documents can be read and printed without the need for the source application
to
be available, while maintaining their original content and layout.

Standard eDOC documents are read using a free application (eDOC Reader) which
is
included in the package. The Reader is small in size (about 75K) and has
several
viewing, searching and copying options. eDOC also provides the ability to
create
self-reading documents (SRDs), which contain an embedded viewer application and
therefore do not require the separate Reader application. The embedded viewer
adds less than 60K to the document size.

Version 1.2 is a functional upgrade which provides three main new features:

- new Index function in eDOC Reader. This option can be used to build a
Table
of Contents either manually or automatically (based on Font/Style/Size) or
simply
to add bookmarks. Index can be displayed from self-reading documents, too.
- new "Find in Index first" option in eDOC Reader and self-reading
documents,
which provides an ultra-fast access to indexed items
- new "Append to Existing File" option in eDOC Creator

Other changes:
- self-reading documents can now be opened from eDOC Reader by dragging
them
to the eDOC Reader icon (previous eDOC users may have to rebuid their desktop)
- accuracy of text extraction has been improved.
- the Window menu has been removed from eDOC Reader. The list of open
documents is now displayed at the bottom of the View menu.
- a custom version of eDOC Creator is available, which creates
self-reading
documents with a full German Interface. This custom version is not available in
the public package, but can be sent on request to registered users who do need
it. It will also be provided to new German/German-speaking users on receipt of
their registration fee.

eDOC may be used on a free trial basis for 30 days. If you find it useful and
continue to use it beyond the free trial period, you are required to pay a $25
registration fee. Multi-machines licenses are available.

The distribution file is a self-installing package which includes eDOC
Creator (a
Chooser extension), eDOC Reader (an application) and full documentation.

Subject: [*] eDOC F-1.2 - Gestionnaire de documents autonomes

--This is the French version of eDOC. An English version is available, too.--

trois nouvelles fonctions suivantes :
- Gestion d'index dans eDOC Reader. Cette fonctionnalite peut etre
utilisee

a

logiciel, soit 150 FRF ou environ US$25.

correspondante.

Subject: [*] enteract-38.sea.hqx editor C++ Java

EnterAct is a free language-aware editor for Macintosh C/C++/Java
programmers. Using hundreds of rules behind the scenes, EnterAct provides
instantaneous automatic context-sensitive definition and prototype display
in its "AutoLook" window, based on where you click or what you type. For
example, if you click after the name of a local variable in a method,
AutoLook shows you the full type definition of the variable (a class
perhaps) after resolving any intermediate typedefs or #defines. You build a
project (there are separate file lists for source, headers and
documentation), update your dictionary (very fast), show the AutoLook
window, and then use EnterAct like a regular editor. EnterAct also has code
templates, command-line or dialog-driven AWK, illustrated documents,
no-clip printing, indentation-preserving Paste, Drag and Drop (text, PICTs,
files, folders), an Activities Log recording in detailed plain English the
last 10,000 things you did, a graphic browser that shows inherited
(non-private) methods and underlines "user" as opposed to classes,
and all the standard features you'd expect.

V3.8 removes some AutoLook and definition-jumping nuisances. The browser
also builds more quickly, and you can toggle syntax coloring for each text

Subject: [*] Faux TeX fonts

Sent: 14 October 1996

This package contains three TrueType fonts: Symbolic, MathMode, and KahoeTech.
Each of these contain characters that are facsimiles of letters and symbols
that one would get from TeX or LaTeX in "math mode." None of them is intended
for text. The package includes handy keystroke charts in Adobe Acrobat format.

Symbolic is an alternative for the standard Symbol font. It can be used as the
font for symbols and Greek letters in equation editors such as MathType and
the baby version of MathType that comes with Microsoft Word under the name of
``Equation Editor."

MathMode contains the full Roman alphabet, plus lots of symbols and Greek
letters.

KahoeTech can be used for creating simple to moderately complex mathematical
expressions without special formatting of subscripts and superscripts and
without tedious kerning adjustments. It can be used easily and with beautiful
results in even the most basic word processors.

For those unfamiliar with TeX (pronounced "tech", as in "technology") and
LaTeX, these are highly sophisticated programming languages designed primarily
for typesetting books and articles that contain a lot of mathematics. This
font is in no way intended to be a substitute or replacement for TeX/LaTeX. It
is only intended to provide a means by which users of TeX/LaTeX can have some
degree of typographic consistency between documents that they create in
TeX/LaTeX and those that they create using other software, such as ordinary
word processors and graphic design programs. Of course, anyone who uses the
Mac to produce technical documents of any kind can benefit from the elegant,
professional look of this font.

Subject: [*] ImageMapConverter 1.0.2

P E G H O L E presents ImageMapConverter

What is ImageMapConverter?

ImageMapConverter is an application to convert ImageMap files, used in
World Wide Web documents, to and from different formats.
It is very useful for converting old Server Side Imagemaps into the new
Client Side Imagemap format which is incorporated in the HTML-code without
the need to recreate the hotspot-areas. To insure compatibility with older
browsers ImageMapConverter can also convert Client Side Imagemaps (Usemaps)
into Server Side Imagemaps.

What does ImageMapConverter require to run?

ImageMapConverter should run on any Macintosh running System 7.x.x. It has
been tested on a PowerMac 8100/100, PowerMac 7600, Performa 630 and a
Quadra 700 with the following systems: System 7.1.1, System 7.1.2, System
7.5.1, and System 7.5.3.
It requires at least 1500 K of free application memory although 4500 K is
recommended.

Special Features of ImageMapConverter:

* Intelligent format recognition
* Conversion of multiple files or whole folders
* Conversion of ovals into polygons
* Fully configurable Image Tag creation

Supported Conversions:

NCSA to USEMAP, CERN to USEMAP, USEMAP to NCSA and USEMAP to CERN

ImageMapConverter is a $10 US Dollar Shareware application.

free for non-commercial purposes. You may not sell it, or incorporate it
into a commercial product for re-sale. If you want to license the software
for commercial purposes, please contact Octavian Micro Development Inc.

What is Linear Interpolation?
Linear interpolation is a simple numerical method for calculating a point
in a straight line. This can be useful in the world of simulation, where
you might require a random number generator with behaviour that does have
uniform distribution. You can approximate a distribution firing a
uniformly distributed random number at a table of points that describe the
observed distribution, and interpolate (between the points) to get
meaningful data.

What do I need to run LInterpolate?
LInterpolate requires Excel 4 or better and a Power Macintosh. It must
have a Power Macintosh, since LInterpolate is an accelerated code resource
(PowerPC native). It is very fast.

NPWDEF (short for No Purge WDEFs) deals with a potential source of
instability in the Mac OS. As reported in MacIntouch, if an application

purgeable, it could crash under certain circumstances. The problem
reportedly becomes more acute under low memory conditions and System
7.5. NPWDEF sets all resources of type 'WDEF' that it finds to
unpurgeable, thus eliminating this possible problem. You could use
ResEdit to fix all your files by hand, but NPWDEF can fix all the files

Subject: [*] SpriteWorld 2.0

Sent: 13 October 1996

SpriteWorld 2 is an animation package for programmers that allows you to
easily add sprite-based animation to your program. SpriteWorld was designed
with game programmers in mind, and has many features that are very useful
for making games, such as smooth overlapping of sprites, custom blitters to
speed up the animation, pixel-precise collision detection, the ability to
create an unlimited number of sprites of any size, the ability to create
fast scrolling games, and much more.

SpriteWorld 2 is an update to the widely respected SpriteWorld animation
library originally written by Tony Myles in 1993-94. SpriteWorld 2 offers a
huge number of improvements over the original SpriteWorld, as well as
correcting all of the bugs that plagued that earlier version. SpriteWorld 2
is a collaborative effort of Karl Bunker and Vern Jensen, and is released
with the permission of Tony Myles. SpriteWorld 2 is available free of
charge to all Mac programmers.

Some notable features of SpriteWorld 2:
* Free!
* Written in C, with the full source code to SpriteWorld included as part
of the package.
* A variety of high speed custom blitters, many times faster than CopyBits.
* "Compiled sprites" for even greater speed on 68K Macs.
* An option to sync the animation to the monitor's VBL interrupt.
* The ability to create scrolling games, featuring an extremely fast
scrolling engine developed for SpriteWorld 2 by Vern Jensen.
* Support for "tiled backgrounds"; suitable for both scrolling and
non-scrolling games. These routines (also written by Vern Jensen) allow you
to easily build a background from sets of graphic tile images.
* Optimized for both 68k Macs and PowerMacs. The most speed-critical
sections of code are written in two versions: a 68000 assembly language
version for 68k compiles and a C version optimized for PPC compiles.
* Extensive documentation, patterned after Apple's "Inside Macintosh"
books, with clear explanations of each SpriteWorld routine, and discussion
of the general principles involved in using SpriteWorld.
* Several demo programs, with full source code in C, to give you examples
of how to use SpriteWorld.

Requirements:
System 7.0 or later, 68020 or later Mac, CodeWarrior C or Think/Symantec C
programming environment.

Subject: [Q] Classic II can't see extra RAM SIMMs?

Hello All!

After a year of being amazed at the depth of knowledge displayed
by members of this list, and learning lots, I need help.

My aged Classic II has just undergone major surgery, to install
a 250 Mb internal disk and an additional 8Mb of RAM, to give me
a total of 10 Mb.

Along the way I replaced the clock battery, adjusted the screen
dimensions and generally had the electrical engineers equivalent
of a fun day out at the park.

Sadly, the Classic II just plain refuses to recognise the extra
memory. It maintains that there is only the soldered-on 2Mb
present.

Here's what I've tried:

Check memory type: 2 x 4Mb 70ns 30 pin SIMMs

Each SIMM has three chips on it,
2 x MSM417400BTTP
1 x 635 BP41C4000B-6

Reseat SIMMs: Tried this several times. No joy.

Try other SIMMs: Tried 2 x 1Mb SIMMs, with no more luck

My guess at the moment is that there is a problem with the
motherboard that's stopping the CPU from 'seeing' the extra
RAM. But then I'm known for fanciful ideas!

If anyone can assist with diagnosing the problem, or tell me
where I can get a working Classic II motherboard in good
condition (in the U.K. only), please email me!

Cheers,
Mike Thomson
