Subject: [*] AGMenu 1.0: Enhanced Guide Menu management
AGMenu is a small library which manages the Guide (or Help, or Balloon
Help, or Question) Menu for you, letting you stash your application's
Apple guides in their own folder, out of the way of inquisitive users.
AGMenu places your guides in the correct locations in the menu, and uses
the same criteria that Apple Guide 2.0 uses when decided which guides
should be included. Integrating AGMenu into your application is trivial
and can often be done in less than an hour.
Further information can be found at
NB: AGMenu is not an Apple supported product.

Subject: [*] Are You A Space Alien?
I am uploading this file for inclusion on the info-mac site for my good
friend John Freemyer . His description of the file
follows:
Are you a space alien trapped in a human body?
Find out today with the interactive "Space Alien Evaluator" you'll find
on this one-of-a-kind HyperCard stack.
After you know for sure, you can involve yourself in the most unusual
space alien story ever told.
Through the magic of multimedia text and graphics, you'll take part in
the newsworthy adventures of an earth human, Lester Fontaine, as he
travels the twisted path from mysterious infancy to bizarre adulthood.
You'll scream with terror and laughter as Lester discovers his true space
alien identity, changes his name to Vox Lem, begins dressing like an ET,
and becomes a world leader in the UFO cult underground.
You'll be perplexed and delighted by the fantastic, fully-functional,
state-of-the-art demonstration model of Vox Lem's "Neo-Frequency Radio
Telescope." This fictive instrument will permit your Macintosh to
intercept extraordinarily unintelligible radio messages transmitted by
creatures in distant galaxies...and from demons in Hell.
If you're looking for freakish thrills and shuddering laughter, look no
further. Download ARE YOU A SPACE ALIEN? now. This first step is your
most important one on the path to a lifetime of unrestricted weirdness.
thanx,
Matthew Schmeer

Subject: [*] Count WWWebula 1.3.2 CGI
Count WWWebula is a Macintosh CGI for use with WebStar, Boulevard,
NetPresenz, or MacHTTP 2.2. (i.e. a Macintosh WWW Server). (READ: THIS CGI
IS *NOT* FOR UNIX MACHINES, NOR WILL IT RUN ON ANY UNIX INTERNET SERVICE
PROVIDERS' WEB SERVERS)
Count WWWebula is a graphical access counter. It will display the number of
"hits" your web page has received in the form of a gif image.
Count WWWebula was created using Greg's PowerPlant CGI Framework, which in
turn was based on Grant's CGI Framework, as a shell CGI application. It
was written using Metrowerks Codewarrior C++ and PowerPlant, so it is
blindingly fast. The installer will install either a PPC version or a 68K
version, depending on the user's preference.
Count WWWebula is shareware. Commercial (and Government) entities need to
send me $25 dollars c/o Kagi Software per server running the counter, if
you are planning on using it (Please read the enclosed license agreement
for complete details). You can do this via the included "Register"
application. Individuals, educational institutions, and non-profit
organizations need not send in the registration fee, but if you choose to
you will get added technical support. (otherwise only limited
trouble-shooting will be available to you).
*** 1.3.2 Changes
* Minor interface tweaks. Keyboard navigation in the prefs dialog, etc.
* Preferences file only open when it needs to be. This allows multiple
Counter CGIs to be running at the same time. Why you'd want this, I don't
know.
* Fixed a bug where the boo.gif would show up when the failed.gif should
have, and vice versa.
* Added a new gif called prefs.gif .... this appears only in the case that
the preferences file is busy when the CGI is trying to use it to get
referral permissions.
* Fixed the updater for v1.2.3 and earlier.
Additional counter digits, an FAQ, more documentation and information, as
well as current versions can be found at:

Subject: [*] FastFontMenu 1.0
FastFontMenu is a System Extension (INIT) which speeds up the building of
the Font Menu in most applications. It does this by sorting the font names
in an internal array, rather than insertion sorting them in the menu the
way the current MacOS does. This improved algorithm is scheduled to be
included in a future version of the MacOS, but since that'll take longer
to ship, I'm releasing it now as freeware. It's scheduled to expire with
version 7.6 of the MacOS. If the fix isn't in the system at that point,
I'll release a new version, but I'd really rather have this fixed by the
OS than by me.
For a small number of fonts, you'll see a relatively small improvement if
you notice it at all, but for those people who have a bazillion fonts in
their systems, the speed improvement in launching most applications is
pretty darned significant. The only case I know of where FastFontMenu can
slow things down is on systems which have mostly non-Roman fonts
installed. The reason for this is that for non-Roman fonts, FastFontMenu
doesn't do the smartest thing possible for the international string
comparisons of the font names. This isn't a bug, it's a feature that
didn't make it into version 1.0. Sorry.
FastFontMenu is WorldScript savvy, and should give you a font menu that's
sorted in the same order that you get without it installed. If you find
that this isn't the case, drop me a note, and I'll look into it.
FastFontMenu is free-ware. FastFontMenu may be distributed and used
freely, but not sold for profit. Please only distribute the complete,
original archive containing FastFontMenu and this ReadMe file. If you sell
FastFontMenu for profit, I'll have to say bad things about you, and we
wouldn't want that. Don't even think of contacting me about putting
FastFontMenu onto a compilation of shareware and freeware that you're
going to sell for a profit. I won't grant you permission. Period.
Thanks to Matt, Jon and Pete.

Glengarry Glen Ross Sounds for Maelstrom 1.4.1
Compiled By Brad Shigenaka
Released September 1996
These are sounds extracted from the movie, Glengarry Glen Ross, and added
to the Maelstrom Sounds file. I compiled these sounds about a year ago
using cables led from my laserdisc player to my PowerBook 165. It didn't
occur to me until recently that there might be some other GGR fans out
there who might get a kick out of these sounds, so I apologize for the
delay in sending this out.
To use, back up your Maelstrom Sounds file and replace it with the one
included in this archive. Make sure to have the sound turned down low the
first time you use the file, unless those around you are used to incredible
levels of profanity spilling from your computer speakers.
Please check the Read Me file for further info.

Subject: [*] YA-NewsWatcher 2.3.1
Yet Another NewsWatcher is a Usenet newsreader application for Macintosh,
featuring binary and anonymous remailer posting, flexible article
filtering (kill files) and sorting, support for PGP via AppleScript,
reference-based threading, and comprehensive multiple character set support
for reading and posting in non-English language and non-latin alphabet
newsgroups. Yet Another NewsWatcher remains free, but registration to
support further development is suggested. Information on how to register
YA-NW accompanies the program
Version 2.3.1 is a bugfix and feature improvement release. The following
changes or fixes have been made since the last release version (2.3.0).
* Fixed a problem with escape characters being stripped from posts.
These are used in Japanese posts to shift into and out of normal ASCII
mode. The previous Japanese plugin attempted to be smart about missing
escape characters, but this resulted in binary posts being improperly
translated.
* There's a new version of Dan Cravier's Japanese (JIS) plugin that
fixes the binary decoding problem mentioned above.
* Dan Crevier has also supplied four new Chinese plugins. Thanks Dan!
* When performing an "extract binaries manually" operation, no
translation was done on the resulting temp file. This means that if
the name of the attached file had non-ASCII characters, or otherwise
required translation, it was not being translated. The actual encoded
file data, being composed only of ASCII characters, was not affected.
* Modified article threading to be faster when performing threading by
reference and processing articles from the cache. The status window
now displays more steps in the process of threading, sorting, and
creating the subject list.
* Changed how zooming is done for message windows. Previously, the
window was sized to be wide enough to display 80 W characters without
wrapping. That's fine for mono-spaced fonts, but too-wide for more
eye-pleasing proportional fonts. Now the window is sized wide enough
to display 80 0 characters without wrapping. That's still fairly wide
for many fonts, but not as wide as before.
* Zooming for article windows was similarly changed to prevent zooming
to amn excessive width when the article text was not appropriately
wrapped.
* Fixed a problem that caused crashes when trying to save files while
running System 7.0.
* Recompiled using a newer version of the Frontier Menu Sharing Toolkit,
which is supposed to eliminate crashes in client programs (like
YA-NewsWatcher) caused by a crash by the server (Frontier itself).
* Eliminated the shortcut to anchor the floating status window by
dragging it to just below the menubar.
