Subject: [*] ChordBook v1.5 -- An Interactive Chord Book for Guitar
This function is distributed as a Fat Binary--that is, this function runs
on both 68k based Mac's and native on PPC based Mac's.
ChordBook v1.5 provides chord lookup for guitar in standard tuning, and
additional chord processing for 39 non-standard guitar tunings. In the
standard tuning library, 23 chord types are supported with 3 or 4 different
fingerings each, depending upon the chord. To plot a chord diagram,
select the root of the chord from the Root menu, and the type of the chord
>From the Type menu. Then, diagram it with the Form 0,1,2,3 buttons from
the tool bar. Non-standard tunings do not contain these built-in chords,
but full use of the Neck Window functions are supported (see below).
In standard tuning, Form 0 chords are available for Major, Minor, Major
7th, and Dominant 7th chord forms and are generally the open or common
forms of the chord. Form 1 chords generally have the root on the 6th
string. Form 2 chords generally have the root on the 5th string, and Form
3 chords generally have the root on the 2nd and/or 5th string.
The Neck Window provides additional chord lookup functions. This window
allows the browsing of chord fingerings over the neck and has a
Name-that-Chord function which recognizes 54 different chord types in
standard and non-standard tunings. These user-created chord voicings may
then be diagramed in the chord editor window.
This function requires either a 68k-based Macintosh with System 7.1 or
higher and a 68020, 68030, 68040, or a Power Macintosh with System 7.5 or
higher. A color monitor with at least 400 lines is highly recommended.
QuickTime with the QuickTime Musical Instruments extension is required for
sound output.
A mandolin version is also available.

actually FKey coderesources created with Metrowerks Pascal. These

install them in CopyPaste. Add new abilities to the Mac with CopyPaste

Subject: [*] Count WWWebula CGI 1.3
Count WWWebula is a Macintosh CGI for use with WebStar, Boulevard,
NetPresenz, or MacHTTP 2.2. (i.e. a Macintosh WWW Server). (READ: THIS CGI
IS *NOT* FOR UNIX MACHINES, NOR WILL IT RUN ON ANY UNIX INTERNET SERVICE
PROVIDERS' WEB SERVERS)
Count WWWebula is a graphical access counter. It will display the number of
"hits" your web page has received in the form of a gif image.
Count WWWebula was created using Greg's PowerPlant CGI Framework, which in
turn was based on Grant's CGI Framework, as a shell CGI application. It
was written using Metrowerks Codewarrior C++ and PowerPlant, so it is
blindingly fast. The installer will install either a PPC version or a 68K
version, depending on the machine you run the installer on.
Count WWWebula is shareware. Commercial (and Government) entities need to
send me $25 dollars c/o Kagi Software per server running the counter, if
you are planning on using it (Please read the enclosed license agreement
for complete details). You can do this via the included "Register"
application. Individuals, educational institutions, and non-profit
organizations need not send in the registration fee, but if you choose to
you will get added technical support. (otherwise only limited
trouble-shooting will be available to you).
Many changes have occured since version 1.2.3, please update any previous
releases you may have.
*** 1.3 Changes
* Written in PowerPlant, so it's easier to keep up, add features/etc.
Also, it feels more stable and seems friendlier to other applications and
the System. Draw back is that it's a little bigger, requires a little
more memory, and only runs on 68020s and above (including PPC of course).
* Stable SIVC code. (***Finally!!!!***) Now uses the SIVC engine, so that
the CGI no longer contains SIVC code... the engine will sit in your system
folder, and receive events from SIVC supporting applications. I'm the only
one that I know of that supports this so far, but Peter Lewis has expressed
interest in it; so it's possible Anarchie 1.7 (or whatever) will also be
using the same SIVC engine, along with NetPresenz, and others.
* As a result of the new SIVC Engine, you can now cancel SIVC queries,
instead of crashing if the SIVC Server is down.

well as current versions can be found at:

More than 3700 musics are available from several different sources on
the Internet, ready to be used with SIDPLAY.
Other versions of SIDPLAY are available for: DOS, Windows 3.1, WinNT, Win95,
OS/2, SunOS, Solaris, SGI, Linux and FreeBSD.
Please note, that the current version of SIDPLAY is PowerPC-native only, a
68k version might follow later.
Changes in this version include:
- Based on the 1.17.3 version of the Unix source.
- Compiled with Codewarrior 9.
- Completey new and improved filter emulation, including resonance.
- Added a dialog to adjust the filter strength.
- Added an option to record AIFF from the current position onward.
- Added framerate measurement for the oscilloscope window (press CONTROL to

- The AIFF export function did not use the current mixer settings. This has
been
fixed now.
- Splitted the documentation into 'quick info' and 'manual' because 32K limit
of
TE has been reached.
- Implemented a 'random music' selection.
- Restructured the menu bar.
- The name of the currently loaded music is now shown at the bottom of the list
window.
- Fixed a bug which caused the LED bars to not redraw correctly when they were
turned off.
- Fixed a little bug with the SID register view.
- Added three little LEDs, to show which channels are being filtered.

Subject: [*] SuperGraph 1.5 - implicit grapher
SuperGraph is a powerful, easy-to-use, inexpensive program to graph
explicit and implicit mathematical functions. Implicit expressions, ones
that cannot easily be solved for either x or y, have presented a
challenge to visualize. SuperGraph makes that a thing of the past.
For example, SuperGraph can graph complex expressions in two variables
like y^2(y-1)-x^2(y^2-1)+2xy^2-x^4=0. And it's only $15 shareware
(payable through Kagi Shareware or directly to the author at 90 Maple
Drive, Great Neck, NY 11021).
SuperGraph differs from Apple's Graphing Calculator in its flexibility
and customizability when dealing with implicit expressions (which
Graphing Calculator does not directly support) and in its ability to run
on 680x0 (non-PowerPC) Macintosh computers.
SuperGraph is especially suited to demonstrating various implicit
expressions and techniques of sketching them in a classroom situation.
SuperGraph requires a Macintosh with a 68020 or higher processor and
System 7.
More information about SuperGraph is available at
.
Changes since 1.1.1:
New graphing method is 20 to 50 times faster and produces
better-looking results for nearly all curves.
Has zoom-in, zoom-out, and arrows buttons in each graphing window.
Adds live dragging of window contents.

Subject: [*] The Gray Council 1.1 - AGA / MacApp / PowerPlant
The Gray Council C++ classes implement the "Apple Grayscale Appearance"
for System 7. Apple has published the visual specifications for grayscale
user interface components under System 7 that are consistent with the
Copland (MacOS 8) default Apple appearance. But there is a lot work to
actually implement these specifications; that's what the Gray Council
does for you by providing a complete set of core C++ classes that
implement the AGA, plus a set of "adapter" classes for MacApp and
PowerPlant programmers.
Example/test applications are included with project files for building
with CodeWarrior 9, MacApp 3.3, and PowerPlant 1.4.

As you probably quickly realized when you first tried to save a web page,
all that is downloaded to your hard drive is the html document itself, not
the graphics or other documents that the page is linked to. Web Grabber
allows you to copy the complete web page, graphics, links, and all. By
using Web Grabber at a site like Yahoo!, for example, can also be used it
as a very rudimentary WWW "worm" to scour the Web.

Subject: [*] Words Hypercard game
Words is a very graphic oriented guessing game, in the tradition
of Hangman. There are eight categories, with seventy-five words in each
category. You have eight chances to guess the word, and a description of
the word is given in the end of each round.
I have used this stack on a variety of macs from a IIci to a Power
Mac 9500, without any problems. The only problem I have had is running it
with Hypercard player. It is a colorful stack with placed graphics, and
none of this would show up using the player. So for best results, if you
can use Hypercard 2.3, this is what I made it with.

Subject: (A) Universal System Floppy
Well, one ugly & expensive way to get two floppies that should boot just
about anything is to purchase the system 7.5.3 retail. The CD version
comes with two Disk Tools disks, one for PPC macs, and one for other
macs. I work as a technician at a computer store that sells Macs, and
haven't run into anything in the past few months (including CPUs as old
as Mac II's) that I couldn't boot using one of these disks.
Of course, if the CPU wasn't previously running 7.5, the hard drive's
desktop will be rebuilt, and if you don't upgrade to 7.5 on the hard
drive, it'll rebuild the desktop next time you boot, but that shouldn't
be a big problem.

Subject: [Q] Superdrive not working anymore
Dear Info-Netters,
I seek for your kind help once again...
I feel (and fear...) my question is going to be very similar to that
submitted a few days ago by Jim C. Smith.
Let's come to the facts.
Coming back from holidays I found that my Internal floppy (Mac IIci),
could not read neither floppies coming from other computers (mainly, urgh,
DOS), nor previous floppies coming from my own computer. It can however
format and work on new disks; it seems I have lost compatibility with the
rest of the world, including my old disks.
As far as I can understand, maybe the heads of the drive are somehow
misaligned.
The questions:
1) Is there a simple way to put things back in order ?
2) If not, I fear I have to replace the disk drive. I asked my city
representative the cost for a replacement. It adds up to about 200$ + just
for the drive, and I am not pretty sure that they will allow me to replace
it myself, adding another 100$ on the final cost
Considering that I can find a drive for (urgh again) DOS machines for
about 40$ (though without automatic eject mechanism, which contributes of
course a bit to the cost), I think that this price is much too high.
I would be grateful if someone well informed could advise me on possible
sourcess of Superdrive disks (internal or external, but price is of course
an issue...), possibly based in Europe to save a bit on shipping, which on
such a low-cost equipment would have a strong impact. As far as I have
understood, Apple representatives seem to be a no-no in Italy... (but if
you have better news I will be glad to hear about it!).
If I have to pay 300 $ for the drive, I think I will buy something like
an Iomega drive, instead. It will not be exactly the same in terms of
compatibility, but at list it is portable, has much greater storage, and I
will buy something I can use also on a future computer (time to change
seems to be approaching, though my bank account disagrees a bit...).
I thank you in advance for your help!
Have a nice clicking!

Subject: ftp and mailto helpers for navigator?
Hello, all!
Is there a way to set Navigator 3.0 to send mailto and ftp links to other
applications? I currently use drag and drop, but I'd love to just click
and have E-Mailer or Anarchie launch automagically. I did not see ftp and
mailto as links you could define helpers for in Navigator, and it doesn't
seem to check with Internet Config, either. I've asked a few of my
friends, and they haven't figured out a way to do it. Is it possible, or
is Netscape trying to make it really easy to not use any other company's
programs?
Thanks in advance; I'll summarize any e-mailed responses back to the list.

Subject: How can I make interactive AppleScripts with PlainTalk
I've checked out sdk2 of april developers cd series and believe that
you need a simple language model.
I wish that apple would give the joke
script's language model! I mean, how complicated could the bnf be with
only having to recognize "who's there" and "knock knock". Would really get
the nerve up to read the sdk instructions.
I think if you take out speech scripting addition and reboot and then
run the joke script you will see a small windowed thing that will give you
a clue as to the joke code as it complains that it doesn't have the speech
scripting addition. I couldn't open it with command option on script
editor nor bbedit anyfile (with sensible ascii).
Why don't I try it. Well, it was more fun writing and seeing a bunch of
people try things. That's why.

Subject: MacGS Viewer
Does anyone know of a recent version of the Ghostscript (Postscript) viewer
for the Macintosh? The only one I've seen is MacGS Viewer 1.0 which is
about 2 years old and it crashes often. There have been a couple of new
versions for the PC since then.
I've checked the official GhostScript page at www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost, and the
Mac listing there hasn't changed for a year. Is Aladdin discrimination against
Macs?

Subject: Macintosh Portable / System 6
Hi
A friend of mine has a Mac Portable which got abused during transportation.
Now it's malfunctioning and among other errors it won't boot from it's
internal drive.
Experiments have shown however that it will boot from my external drive.
The problem is that I only have system 7.1 and when the "Welcome to
Macintosh" box is supposed to show the computer says that it dosen't have
enough memory to boot with system 7.1.
The owner has understood that his mac will never work properly again but he
has some pretty important documents on the harddrive. So I would need
system 6.x.x or earlier to boot the computer and then copy all the
important files before trashing the computer for good.
Could somebody help me get hold of sys 6?

Subject: project x
I fooled with it. The starry space background flying through url
headlines and opening headlines underneath into appearance was an
interesting idea.
I think that having hidden sub-headlines is great for bandwidth, but
2D html can do that with web subpages. Some visual algorithms built in us
might like hidden surfaces notion for a natural desktop metaphor for the
hidden nature of outlining and outline depth.
Considering that one views surfaces only, 3D means one takes advantage
of hidden surfaces that one flies to get a view of. Neat metaphor.
One gains the impression of higher dimensionality with 3D, but the
idea of hypertext is much higher than 3D dimensionality with everything
being a nearest neighbor to everything else as the ultimate goal.
The neandrathal metaphor might hide in its emphasis something more
wonderful about to emerge and not already "evolved".
Dolphins or whales (don't recall which) with the melon organ see in 3D
without surface hiding and think very differently. Project x may miss that
way of thinking in their metaphor.
While a 3D representation buys you of the ultimate goal is
questionable but I am constantly peeking at this place on the net to see
what goes on. So, my critical nature is hypocritical!
I think that apples qt virtual reality also has built in hotspots and
there are also image maps that run scripts based on where you click. So
there is precident investment by apple.
We shall see, however way we shall see...
