WHAT DOES CLIPFOLIO DO
-----------------------
Clipfolio watches your work and every time you cut or copy
information to the clipboard, Clipfolio copies that information. Your
information is saved and you can come back later to use it over and
over while you continue copying new stuff (which is also being saved).
Clipfolio will save up to 60 of your most recent cuts or copies,
automatically!
When you want to access something that Clipfolio has saved,
simply bring up Clipfolio's window and select the desired item. It
will be put back on the clipboard in its original form!
Both PowerPC and 680x0 versions of Clipfolio are included.

Subject: [*] Easy Installer 1.0
This upload is to save you the time of creating the installer
yourself and also to give you the idea. This self-installing
archive installs control panels, extensions, preferences, etc. into
the system folder, and can install stuff into root as well. It's not
as refined or as idiot-proof as a Stuffit Installer Maker installer
but it does work, is easier to create, and I believe Compact Pro is
also cheaper.
What it's good for:
*Creating a product installer
*ORGANIZING YOUR COLLECTION OF INITS AND CDEVS.
The sysem folder is not a good place to keep anything you plan on
keeping beyond the next system melt down. Put your inits/cdevs into
this installer once and for all. Double click and they're installed.
If you do use Compact Pro, please pay the [inexpensive] Compact Pro
shareware fee. Note: I have nothing to do with Compact Pro - I'm
just a satisfied user.
May be included on the CD-ROM. It's freeware, but it
requires the Compact Pro shareware program.

Subject: [*] MSDWT Manu 1.0.2 TT
MSDWT Manuscript is a slant print manuscript handwriting font. It includes
the basic upper and lower case alphabet as it's taught in many schools, and
a few special characters. I use this font for "handwriting" and spelling
papers for my students. It comes from an old handwriting packet I've had
for years from a school corporation I used to work for in Indianapolis. I
scanned it into the computer and used Fontographer 4.1 to autotrace and
fine-tune it. This 1.0.2 release reflects some minor changes in letter
shape and spacing. As I have time, I hope to continue to improve the font.
Both Postscript and TrueType versions are available. This file includes
only the TrueType version. This font is shareware/charityware. If you keep
and use this font, please use the Register program to register it through
Kagi Shareware (who handle all my registrations). All registration fees

Subject: [*] Romtypewriter Font
Romtypewriter is a Romanian font which includes the six characters
required by the Romanian language not present in the standard Mac
character set (a-breve, s-comma, t-comma), loosely based on American
Typewriter.
Romtypewriter is one in a series of Romanian fonts designed in 1993-94,
prior to the release of the Romanian localization of the Mac OS; hence
it follows a different encoding from Apple's Mac OS Romanian character
set.
The package includes both TrueType and PostScript Type 1 versions. It
also includes a custom keyboard layout which makes typing Romanian text
on US (qwerty) keyboards much easier.
Romtypewriter is free, but not in the public domain; it is copyright

Subject: [*] Sibling Rivalry 2.01 - Another "The Chooser Sux" Program
How often do you use the Chooser to connect to an AppleShare server
volume, and then realize that you need another volume on that same
server? Often if you mount one volume, you will want to mount the
related volumes at some time.
Enter Sibling Rivalry. After it is installed, you can Command-Click on
the Finder icon for an AppleShare server volume (not an alias) and a
popup menu will appear that lists the other volumes on that server
(it's "siblings"). If you select the name of a sibling from the menu,
Sibling Rivalry will automatically mount that volume on your computer.
Notes:
* Sibling Rivalry has no interface... it takes up no space on your
screen, since it only appears after you specifically invoke it.
* You can mount *every* sibling on a server by adding the Option
key to the Command-Click sequence, and selecting "All Volumes".
* Its FAT software (both 68K and PPC native).
* Requires System 7.0 or later and the Finder Scripting Extension.
FSE comes bundled with AppleScript 1.1, with System 7.5.x, or
standalone at:
http://www.info.apple.com/Apple.Support ... e.Updates/
US/Macintosh/System/Other_System/Finder_Scripting_Ext1.2.sea.hqx
Changes from 2.0 to 2.01:

* General code cleanup.

Subject: [*] Sleeper 2.0.4
Here is minor revision to Sleeper. Version 2.0.4 adds support for St.
Clair Software's recently released WakeUp Items control panel, as well as
enhancements in the About box. Sleeper 2.0.4 should replace any older
versions in the archives.
Sleeper is a control panel for desktop Macintoshes and Power Macintoshes
that dims the screen, powers down Energy Star compliant monitors, and spins
down disk drives after periods of inactivity. This saves energy, reduces
noise levels in your work area, and decreases wear to your monitor and hard
disk
In addition to working well on the desktop, Sleeper is well suited for
unattended operations. For file servers, ftp and http hosts, and unattended
telephony such as fax and BBS systems, Sleeper will wake the drives up when
they are needed and put them to sleep when they are idle. Sleeper is
easily configurable; it provides hotkey control for on-demand activation of
its sleep features, and separate delay settings for screen dimming, monitor
power down, and disk sleep.
Sleeper will work on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher, including
System 7.5.3, and will spin down both IDE and SCSI hard drives. The screen
saver feature requires a color-capable Macintosh, and Energy Star monitor
support requires an Energy Star compliant Macintosh (any Mac on which
Apple's Energy Saver control panel works) and an Energy Star capable
monitor. Sleeper is both 680x0 and PowerPC compatible. It supports SCSI
Manager 4.3 in native mode on all machines and requires only 25K of memory
when operating.
In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates are
available at:

SysMenu is a shell project that demonstrates how to create and manage a system

Since the initial release was designed for CW6, I have updated the code for

stuff is general and clean enough for others to use. Drop me any comments and

This is an update to WakeUp Items that fixes a crash that could occur when
closing the control panel if WakeUp Items was not installed at startup.
WakeUp Items is a control panel that gives you the ability to automatically
open applications or files whenever your Macintosh wakes up from sleep
mode. Just as you put items and aliases into the StartUp Items folder when
you want them launched at startup, you place files and aliases in the
WakeUp Items folder to launch them when your Mac wakes up.
WakeUp Items will work on Macintoshes that have built-in sleep capabilities

Subject: [*] WarpSearch CGI 1.5
WarpSearch is a *fast* non-indexed TEXT and HTML search utility that
functions in both local and CGI mode. It works with any CGI-compatible
Macintosh web-server, including NetPresenz, MacHTTP, WebSTAR, and many
others. Speed tests on an old Mac IIci measure WarpSearch at over
500kb/sec and the newer PowerPC Macs perform far better. Unlike other
applications of its type, WarpSearch will perform blazingly fast searches
on text files of any size without adjusting its RAM requirements!
WarpSearch consumes a mere 400k of RAM. This version adds support for
recursive folder searches and enhanced local file launching.

Subject: [*] WebLife 1.0 - Add life to your web site!
If you want to add life to your page without editing your HTML source every
day, let's have a look to WebLife:
WebLife is updating content of an HTML page by replacing special tokens.
Available features in this version are:
* You can add or remove a message in your html page, just by sending an email.
the email can contain HTML tokens... (You also need Apple Internet Server
on the web server). Useful to add special info in a web page.
* You can change a sentence every day (or n minutes). You provide a text
file with the list of sentences you want to add in your HTML page.
Sentences can contain HTML tokens too. Useful to add a "sentence of the
day", advertising, pictures...
* Just add the date of the day. Simple but useful to show that your page is
not becoming old!
* FAT code for 68k&PowerPC
WebLife is useful for such kind of data that are not changing all the time
(or from time to time only) so that the web server can serve the same
document for everybody without calling a CGI each time.
It's just a beginning!
You can put this shareware on CD ROMs or other servers.

These are the complete set(so far) of icons taken from the operating
system, Windows95, and made into Mac icons. These were not drawn
originally by me. The people at Microsoft did these first. These are
icons found on Windows95, but have been found useful, by my panel of
experts, on the Macintosh. They are not the exact thing but they are
pretty darn close.

Subject: [*] YA Base64 1.2.3
Yet Another Base64 Decoder version 1.2.3 is a simple droplet designed to
decode MIME Base64 encoded as well as uuencoded files that are dropped upon
it. It assumes that all segments of the original MIME or uuencoded document
have been concatenated into the file being decoded, and that the segments
are in order. It will optionally attempt to recursively decode files until
no further Base64 decoding or uudecoding is possible.
This is intended primarily as a helper application for Yet Another
NewsWatcher, for which it is the recommended Base64 decoder AND uudecoder
helper application. It is not a general purpose MIME document decoder.
However, it does handle most usenet Base64 and uuencoded binaries fairly
well, and it can deal with multiple attached files.
It requires, but does not test for, System 7 or later.
Version 1.2.3 fixes some minor bugs.

Subject: (Q) Why forget sound settings after sleeping?
I have a Power Mac 7500 running System 7.5.3 rev. 2. I'm using the Energy
Saver control panel to sleep the system over night, rather than shutting
down. I do this so I can access my system from home. I've found that, after
the system sleeps overnight, it forgets the sound level setting for the
internal speaker and is typically mute when I get in the next morning. (I've
been setting the sound level using the sound control strip.) BTW, after
sleeping for only a short time, the sound level is preserved.
Apple telephone support says they have no information on this particular
problem. Under their direction, I've removed lots of different preference
files and had the system recreate fresh files. The problem is still not
resolved.
Has anyone else found this problem? Has anyone identified a solution other
than disabling Energy Saver?
Thanks for whatever help can be provided!

What you see is memory fragmentation, which will occurs as a resuylt of you
quiting applications in an order different than that in which they were

This will persist even when the finder is the only active application

No. That's not correct. If the last program quits that has used a shared
library, the memory used by this library is released. (That's done by the
Code Fragment Manager of the Mac OS.) So if all programs are working correctly,
the situation described above should never happen.
If it happens though, it's an undoubtly sign that some applications you use
have a bug: They don't correctly free up the memory they were using.
So identify these applications and report this to their manufacturers.
Happy Macing,
Oliver Hammrich.

Subject: [Q]floppy photo & kodakcd
hi all fellow info-maccers -
perhaps some of you have had experience with this kind of stuff?
i run a youth group from my centris 650 - and for years have put out great
fliers - not _professional_ (300 dpi, etc) but good.
anyway, i have a nice font and clip art collection but recently i've wanted
more - specifically ive wanted pictures of the kids themselves. imagine if
the flier announcing the next event had pics from the last event. cool huh
im not ready to change much of the process of flier making - it will be
designed on my 650 (24 mg ram) and preferably printed on my 300 dpi laser.
It will certainly be black & white (color copying is just not quite in our
mass market budget yet)
im having a bit of a problem though deciding on how to get the pics into my
system - and how to get them printable. there are a few options
1a. scanning (me) - well i dont have a scanner, but i could go to kinkos
and use theirs. how long will it take to get printable results? what MUST i
know before i start. etc
1b. scanning (friend) - my ibm friend has a scanner, and we seem to be able
to get gif and jpegs onto my side, but somehow the size seems to get messed
up in transfer. eg he scanned his signature and on my machine it opened as
a 8.5 * 4 inch image - somehow the signature grew???
2 quicktake - kinkos rents them do they work? how?
3 photo cd - the sample cd i have seems to show nicely on the screen but
print in unrecognizable blobs. also it seems to open at 72 dpi and if i try
to change that to 300 or 600 dpi - the printed picture seems incredibly
small. what am i doing wrong?
4 floppy photo (or some such) - seems to be the cheapest option among the
easy ones. wolf camera (a national chain) will put my pics on disk for
pretty cheap - but they use a proprietary format and im clueless about how
they look et al.
ill summarize to the list with all the billions of answers i get

In reply to:

As reluctant as I am to buy into new, untested technology, request for info...
----------------
I recently obtained the ProMax version of the Iomega Jaz drive... very,
very glad I did. I would have been waiting at least a month for Iomega
brand name version. Still having trouble obtaining 1/2 gig media. I now
live in happy synergy with my 1 gig divided into two neat partitions each
equalling the size of my internal HD... one partition for b/u, one for
STUFF (mostly games and internet miscellany). My machine is a Perfoma
640CD DOS.
However, there are TWO major caveats in the use of this drive:
1) Automatic Spin Down - Factory configured at 30min inactivity (alterable
by software... which I don't use)... This (probably necessary) "feature"
can lead to REALLY slow access of the drive while re-spinning. Although
the process has been bug-free for me so far. I can't help but think that
there are some app's out there which might cough on the re-spin delay. In
particular, internetting is affected with some frequency because the
internet is an intensly verbal medium and therefore I find myself reading
downloaded data for more than 30min quite often between my intermittent
accesses. Similarly, downloading some very large files are affected when
it comes time to de-compress... Though, like I said, no problems so far...
2) INCOMPATIBLE with RAM Doubler from Connectix - As per ProMax! I have
contacted Connectix and they claim that ProMax/Iomega software may have
problems with SCSI 4.3.1 (included in 7.5.3)... who knows? ... Who cares...
just doesn't work! Luckily, RAM prices have nosedived recently and I was
able to upgrade sufficiently to alleviate the problem, however, I feel that
there should have been some EXPLICIT warning about this issue from my
supplier (MAC/PC Connection)... I still wan't my RAM Doubler back!

Maximia on my Mac IIvx, and have been very satisfied. It
gives a very significant performance improvement to have the
system and MS Word 6.0.1 in a RAM disk.
Now I have a PowerBook 190 and want to do the same thing,

Connectix, but Maximia doesn't work on the PowerBook 190.
They recommended that I search Info-Mac for either of two

that if I just search (say, with Alta Vista) for Info-Mac,
that I would easily find Info-Mac's search engine, and it
would lead me to these programs, which I could then
download.
Well, I can't find Info-Mac's search engine. Can you please

The reason I ask is that a collegue, who homebrewed his clock chipper is
installing a DOS card and finds the two heatsinks on the x86 and 601 are

in the 601 heatsink and is proud of the top of the fan by a few

How are the fans mounted in the commercial clock chippers?
Are they placed so that they're flush with the top of the heatsink (and so

Any suggestions?
