This is a little patch I whipped up to enhance ~Aaron v1.2 (Fat). It
turns off WindowZoom (twisty zoom), to make ~Aaron ALOT faster with the

second download.

Churn is a simple program which 'churns' your Mac when it is run. I use this
to pause games like SpaceWard Ho! where you can access the finder. Afterall
if the game can't think it can't work.
This program is the death to all multi-tasking >:-)
BTW: if you want you can change the 'Churn' pict with ResEdit to anything and
the proggy should cope!

Subject: [*] Data Desk Statistics Software
Data Desk pioneered true Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and is still the only
statistics application designed to make data exploration simple and natural.
Data Desk is a data analysis package for the Macintosh that combines
traditional
statistical functions with dynamic data display and manipulation. The program
provides a full range of statistical plots and procedures. Plots available
include histograms, bar charts, scatter plots, dot plots, box plots, and 3-D
rotating plots. Statistical procedures available include tests, confidence
intervals, summary statistics, correlation tables, simple and multiple
regression, ANOVA/MANOVA/ repeated measures, principal components, clustering,
contingency tables and frequency tables.
With the most recent release, version 5.0, Data Desk has added more
powerful and
flexible tools. Support for Template files and a visual Action Control
Language lets users extend and customize the program to their own needs.
The nonlinear regression and logistic regression commands added two popular
statistics procedures to an already comprehensive list.
Data Desk 5.0 Test Flight
The Data Desk Test Flight Kit is designed to help you explore the
capabilities of Data Desk through direct interaction with the program. The
Data Desk Test Flight Program is our full version of Data Desk with only
the Import, Export, Print and Save commands disabled. The Data Desk Tour
file contains everything you need to explore the program, and gives a taste
of Data Desk's approach to data analysis.

Subject: [*] Eyes^3: A QuickDraw 3D eyes program
Hello MacGifts,
Here is Eyes^3 1.0 (pronounced "eyes cubed") --- an eyes program that uses
Apple's QuickDraw 3D to take the traditional graphical eyes program to a new
dimension.
To run Eyes^3, you will need a Power Macintosh with at least 16M of RAM and
QuickDraw 3D 1.0.3. I know, these are hefty requirements for an eyes program,
but think of it this way: if you can satisfy these requirements, you will also
be able to run a host of other QuickDraw 3D-savvy applications.
Eyes^3 is one of the modules in Cubicle, a series of QuickDraw 3D applets that
is currently in progress. When completed, Cubicle will consist of a cool set
of traditional desk accessories that have been given a true 3D facelift,
thanks to QuickDraw 3D.

Subject: [*] FreePPP 1.0.5; an enhanced version of MacPPP
FreePPP 1.0.5 is an enhanced version of MacPPP 2.0.1 that is Open Transport
compatible. It is _not_ an official Merit release and the name has been
changed to avoid the confusion with all the MacPPP derivatives. It is the
direct successor to the SD versions of MacPPP (MacPPP 2.1.3SD was never
released - it became FreePPP 1.0).
It _requires_ System 7.1 and a Mac that supports color (this does NOT mean
QuickDraw GX). This requirement for color may be addressed in a later
release. See the enclosed read me for additional warnings and known
problems.
FreePPP 1.0.5 new features:
* Now include FreePPP FAQ document.
* Now scramble Authentication password in prefs file.
* Dial command strings now editable with ResEdit (useful for ISDN TA users).
FreePPP 1.0.5 fixes:
* Now properly report echo failure disconnect as such instead of erroneous
idle timeout message in previous releases.
* Now trap obscure chance of re-entering connect code while dialing.
FreePPP 1.0.4 removed feature:
* No longer supports initiating PPP connections at boot time.
FreePPP 1.0.3 new features:
* Name and password prompting features originally planned for FreePPP 1.1 are
now implemented. See accompanying docs for details.
* Echo Interval selection values have been change to ones that should be less
likely to cause bogus echo failure reports when the Mac gets real busy.
* Now include, by permission, Adam Engst's list of modem init strings from
TISK.
See the included docs for a complete list of changes/fixes in previous
releases, configuration details, FAQs and known problems.
Have Fun!

Subject: [*] GPA Tracker 1.2
This is the new version of GPA Tracker, a GPA calculating utility.
You Give GPA Tracker, the course number, grade, credits, and description
for all your courses, and it will calculate your overall GPA. Next
semester: just add the courses you took, and it will adjust your GPA
accordingly. Additionally, GPA Tracker has the ability to calculate your
GPA for just courses in your major (which a lot of employers are looking at
these days).
The current version is major overhaul of the previous version, but has the
same basic purpose. It is now in Microsoft Excel 5.0 format, and takes
advantage of the Visual Basic Programming features in excel. There will
NOT be any more releases of GPA Tracker for Excel 4.0. I don't use it
anymore, and the previous version of GPA Tracker works fine on it. The
interface now contains dialogs, and the like for entering, and removing
courses from your records. Everything is now automated, and no manual
changes to the spreadsheet are necessary.

Subject: [*] HTML Viewer 1.2
HTML Viewer is a simple hypertext viewer, or "browser", meant
to be used by people who do not have access to a full-featured browser
like Mosaic or Netscape. It is also handy for authoring HTML documents,
as it does not have the overhead that the more capable browsers have.
New in version 1.2 is support for Forms and their corresponding CGIs. This
makes HTML Viewer a great tool for testing your CGIs without having to set up
a separate HTTP server. HTML Viewer will run uncompiled and compiled
AppleScripts as well as runnable AppleScript applets. Also new are support
for sounds files, and use of Internet Config for handling network-based URLs.

Subject: [*] mac-midi-adapters-revd
Enclosed find an update to the 'mac-midi-adapters' archive.
*new e-mail address (sorry it took so long to update this!)
*more detailed explanations of the devices.
There are no changes to the schematics themselves.
The mac-midi-adapters archive contains two different versions of
a self powered adapter that should be usable with any Macintosh.
The basic unit has two outs and one in, with a single status lamp
that shows if the port is powered (on macs with a powermanager
such as the powermacs, etc, this is very useful). This unit
is the one I use when 'on the road'.
The deluxe unit has a THRU switch to it can be used without tying up
a port on the machine, and TX and RX lights, of much help when trouble-
shooting MIDI problems. It is more oriented towards desktop use, but
of course they all work on any mac with MINI-DIN-8 serial ports.

Subject: [*] NetPresenz 4.0 (formerly FTPd)
This is a major new upgrade for FTPd, it now has full support for Web CGI
scripts and native Open Transport. Because FTPd is much more than just an
FTP server, we've renamed it to NetPresenz which more acurately represents
it's functionality - with a single program you or your company can now use
a Macintosh to provide a high profile presence on the Internet including
FTP, Web and Gopher, all for just a $10 shareware fee.
NetPresenz uses the Apple's standard file sharing permissions under either
Personal File Sharing (7.5.1 or later highly recomended) or AppleShare, so
it is easy to configure and very secure.
Changes since FTPd 3.0 include:
New name - NetPresenz.
Open Transport support.
CGI script support.
And a few of other changes and tweaks.
NetPresenz requires System 7 and MacTCP or Open Transport.
NetPresenz is $10 shareware. The upgrade is free to everyone who
registered after Jan 1, 1995. If you registered before then, the upgrade
is 50% of the normal price.
Enjoy,
Peter

in Harare and not known if he would be awake yet?
PhoneCodes/TimeZones is an update to my previous Area Codes/Time Zones. It
is a DocMaker stand-alone application which provides all kinds of useful
information. It lets you pinpoint where an area code or country code is
located and what time it is there. Conversely, it lets you look up area
codes for major cities in the US and Canada and international country codes
for all the countries in the world.
Version 3.2 is an interim release which is up-to-date on the latest Area
Code additions. Look for version 4.0 coming soon with detailed world
Daylight Savings Time information.
The reference ftp site for the latest released version is:

- Changes to country codes: Bahamas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico
- Yet, still, again, more new Area Codes added

Want a unique way to wish someone Happy Birthday?
Clixsounds introduces the new "Happy Birthday" sound files. Sneak them
into the StartUp Items folder of the "Birthday Boy or Girl" and surprise
them when they startup their Mac, or assign it as his or her system beep
and the next time the Mac beeps, it wishes them Happy Birthday! Or you
can simply send the file to them via email as a different way to wish
them happiness on their Birthday.
The "Happy Birthday" sounds come in a variety of qualities and lengths.
There are two main versions: the "long" version, a 15-second clip, which
is the entire song of "Happy Birthday," and then the "short" version,
which is just above 8 seconds, and is the last stanza of the song. Both
versions are available in 8 here. You can download the 16-bit versions
at the Clixsounds WWW site at http://www.edmondsun.com/clix/
The rendition of the song has a jazzy "big band" style to it, including a
upbeat piano backed by snappy drums and a smooth bass.

Subject: [*] Triste
A fellow in Brazil wanted to see more of my Jobim inspired jams (not
James, mind you).
I felt better making my jam public before exchanging Bossa Nova
midi files with him. This publication establishes me as the author of the
music I layered on top of Jobim's work.
I should say something more poetic and inspirational like when I
published you "Wave" ie. "Onda" in quicktime midi format.
There is a mother with two little girls on her hands and not enough
solitude and I live alone with too much of it.
After I wrote her the song and translated the first line from the
Portuguese which went "Sad is to live in solitude" refusing to translate
any more before I knew her better, she became the distant Lady from
Ipanima that this song seems to also be about. Got to watch what you
write, you may get it!
I think that she must have spoken with a schrewish friend who heard
enough when she heard that first line.
Bummer. Well, you all can listen to all the beautiful lines about a
beautiful sad feeling. The wellsprings of music can flow and fly from a
deep sadness and become very beautiful to send the soul soaring.
Sad is to live in solitude,
Far from your tranquil altitude.
Sad is to know that no one ever can live on a dream,
that will never be, can never be.
Dreamer wake up wake up and
see!
Your beauty is an airoplane,
so high my heart can't bear the strain.
A heart that stops when you pass by,
only to cause me pain.
Sad is to live in solitude.
Wave, however, was about how :
"The fundamental loniless goes
whenever two can dream a dream together"
Hey, man, this is the '90's and, at least, we need a few good
cliches!

Subject: [*] Versioneer 1.0
* What is Versioneer?
Versioneer is an application that makes it convenient to
edit the 'vers' ID 1 resource of a file. It's also
AppleScript-able, so you can write scripts that bulk-change
the version of a large number of files.
* Why Versioneer?
Some of you are wondering "What's the 'vers' ID 1 resource
and why would I care?" A good question. The 'vers' ID 1
resource of a file is what the Finder uses to display
version information for a file. When you do a "Get Info" on a
file, the last field before the "Comments" field is the
"Version" field, and the 'vers' ID 1 tells the Finder what
to put there. Also, if you use "version" in your Finder
views, the 'vers' ID 1 resource tells the Finder what string
to display in the Finder windows as well.
The power users and developers out there are probably
wondering "Why would I need this when I can edit the
resource with ResEdit or VersionEdit?" Another good
question. ResEdit is slow for this task, since you have to
find the 'vers', then find ID 1, then edit. It also doesn't
auto-update the version strings to match the version number,
which Versioneer does. VersionEdit does auto-update the
strings, but munges the long version string and installs a
bunch of other resources that are appropriate only for
applications. Also, neither of these applications are
scriptable, which Versioneer is. Batch-updating a whole
bunch of files is quite convenient if you track your source
code version numbers like I do.
Versioneer is shareware $10.
