Subject: crashes when waking from sleep with OS9
I've got a one week old G4 tower (350mz, 128 ram, OS9) using 2 Apple
17" monitors (ATI XClaim 3D Plus video card for the extra monitor).
Frequently when waking from sleep I find that one of three things has
happened (most frequent to least):
1. the monitors come on, but all I see is the outline of the windows
I had open - the windows are completely blank (white) inside
2. the monitors come on, but I don't have a visible mouse cursor and
nothing responds to any key combinations (I use Kensington Mouseworks)
3. in one case, the monitors wouldn't come on at all
In all cases, my only recourse is to hit the reset button on the G4 tower.
Any ideas? I trolled through macfixit.com, Apple support and the ATI
site and didn't find anything related.
Any help is much appreciated.

Subject: Cursor in Execl VB
Does anyone know how to make the blinking cursor appear in the Visual Basic
Editor Code Window in Excel 98? I haven't been able to find a way to turn
it on, which means one doesn't always know where code is going to show up
when being typed in. It came on once or twice, but then mysteriously
disappeared.

Subject: iMac "sleeping disorders"
My new slot loading iMac running with OS9 and "entrega Mac
USB dock" is not willing to go to sleep as programmed. Instead of
getting the pulsating yellow "heartbeat" the darkened screen stays
with green light, meaning the computer is "awake" juts the screen
darkened. This is supported by the fact, that as soon as the mouse is
touched it is awake, not like wakening up from "sleep" taking some
time to awaken.
The second problem, after using the iMac for 3-4 hours
consecutively, I can't shut it off the normal way, from the special
menu. It will give the sound, but the screen stays on frozen. Only
the force restart button on its side will bring it back to life.
Does anyone with the latest generation iMacs has similar experience?
I'm using the SCSI SyQuest EZ135 and the old HP DeskWriter (SCSI)
with the help of the dock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by an 80 year old Macintosh addict.

I encountered the same problem with my PB 3400. I asked nowonder.com and
received the following reply:
Does the computer operate off of AC power okay? If so, from the finder,
with the computer plugged in, remove the battery entirely from the computer
and reinsert it. This has worked for me in the past. You may need to
reset the power manager again before doing this.
I tried it and it fixed my problem.

I have found that Radio Shack has an index of the Mac system batteries and
has been able to special order the ones I have needed.
