Burn DVD to DVD

Hi,
I am new to Mac. I have three DVDs which I want to burn on empty DVDs. After inserting one of the original DVDs and trying to burn it I got immediately a message asking me to insert an empty DVD. For that purpose I had to take out the original which then is not available when the empty one is inserted. How do I do it? How do I copy one CD/DVD to another?
Thanks

If these are data DVDs we're talking about, you'll want to use Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility) to create a disk image from your DVD, then insert the new blank DVD and use Disk Utility to burn your disk image to the new disc.

Thanks.
That's a progress for me.
However the current DVD is not a data DVD. It's not a movie either although when I slide it into the computer DVD Player plays it. It accompanies a language study book.

and of course, I tried to use the disk utility and it failed to create an image.
Thanks

Yes, the Disk Utility method will probably not work with most (or all) video DVDs. You'll have to use an application specifically designed to do this, but be careful, there is a HUGE number of similarly overpriced and low quality DVD "ripping" software coming out of China and similar developing nations lately. See this Macworld article:

You should check out
HandBrake which is a well-known and free utility for Mac OS, and see if it will suit your needs.
