epson 785epx and Mac OS9.2.2 won't play nice

Well Epson has finally baffled me. My Epson C84 finally died, asphyxiated on its own yellow ink nozzle. A friend of mine gave me his 785epx which he said he used maybe 5 times. I hooked it up, downloaded the driver from the Epson site and installed. Loaded new ink as well (not cheap).

Well I can get a page setup window in simpletext but when I try to print, I get a "driver missing" message. I also can't access the utilities like nozzle check or printhead alignment in the page setup window.
I went as far as to perform a clean install on my system and still no luck whatsoever.
When I try anything out of Quark it locks my machine.

Does anyone happen to know WTH is going on here? If so please reply. I don't know if this forum forwards to my email account so if not please contact me at [email protected].

Thanks so much,
Christian

I found the Epson site confusing lists multiple drivers for classic Mac OS, mish-mashed in a disorderly fashion among the many Mac OS X drivers. I would suggest ensuring that you're using the version 6.7aA version of these drivers found here. Also be sure to run Software Update and ensure that you're running the latest versions of everything.

It will if you subscribe to this topic. You can subscribe/unsubscribe both in the full desktop website as well as inside iForum. Please see the recent post about asking for replies outside of the forum. Thank you.

Yep. I have the 6.7 installer. I noticed in my extensions folder there is a little icon for the printer, 785epx but there is nothing in the printer driver folder. Should there be? Is it possible that when running the .sea that not everything is uncompressing? I would think that it would simply show an error if this was the case.
Oh another thing. When I click on the printer icon in the chooser, where I used to get a USB port icon in the right hand window, now I don't see anything. I tried swapping between my two USB ports but nothing changed.
