epson 785epx and Mac OS9.2.2 won't play nice

Well Epson has finally baffled me. My Epson C84 finally died, asphyxiated on its own yellow ink nozzle. A friend of mine gave me his 785epx which he said he used maybe 5 times. I hooked it up, downloaded the driver from the Epson site and installed. Loaded new ink as well (not cheap).
Well I can get a page setup window in simpletext but when I try to print, I get a "driver missing" message. I also can't access the utilities like nozzle check or printhead alignment in the page setup window.
I went as far as to perform a clean install on my system and still no luck whatsoever.
When I try anything out of Quark it locks my machine.
Does anyone happen to know WTH is going on here? If so please reply. I don't know if this forum forwards to my email account so if not please contact me at [email protected].
Thanks so much,
Christian
