Someone gave me a G4 QuickSilver with OS 9.2 and I have a MacBook (my first mac) that originally came with Tiger but was upgraded to Leopard.
Can I use the Tiger disks that came with the MacBook? If I can...
When I try to "Install OS X" it comes up with a panic screen that says that it is unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerMac3,5" and freezes.
Thanks for helping a rookie out!

Tiger software restore discs for Intel Macs will not work on PowerPC Macs. I'm not sure about Leopard restore discs. Leopard retail discs are universal. Tiger retail discs are PowerPC-only.
If you have a QuickSilver it should be able to run Leopard just fine. If it fails to boot, you can put your G4 into Target Disk Mode by holding down "T" as you restart. Then connect it directly to your MacBook with a FireWire cable, boot your MacBook from the Leopard disk, and install as you normally would but be sure to choose the G4 tower's drive as the drive you want to install to. The 867 MHz "requirement" is a mere software limitation of the Installer only. If you install from your MacBook to your G4 tower, obviously it won't know.

I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.
