replacing os 9 disks

Post by josearturo » October 23rd, 2008, 11:00 pm

I need to reinstall ox9 on my g4, but since I have not needed to do this for a number of years, I can't find the disks. Is there a way for me to obtain replacement disks?

Thanks,

arturo

eBay will probably be your best bet, but there are other online retailers like this one. They usually always ask ridiculous prices and you should probably just stick with eBay.

Be careful, though, if you have a later model G4 it may require a specific version of Mac OS 9 newer than the one that shipped in retail boxes. Best to check which model you have and what version it is compatible with.

Make sure you buy the Full Retail Installation Disc/s for Mac OS 9. Are you going to run OS 9 alone? Or do you have OS X installed and you need to reinstall Classic?

Don't some Mac OS X install discs come with the "Install Classic" option or something? Or is that only discs that originally came with systems that could run classic?

I bought a Full Retail Version of Panther and it has the option to install Classic if you want.

So, you wouldn't need to specifically buy the Full Retail Version of Mac OS 9 but it depends on the version that the OP is using ... :)

We should also probably remind the OP that Leopard doesn't support classic mode at all.

thanks to all for the helpful tips. Should have replied earlier but was on travel. I'll check out the different options.
