Wifi keeps dropping

Post by carlos7371 » April 28th, 2010, 10:21 pm

Hi my black MacBook wifi only works in my bedroom which is where router is. Outside of my room it works for like an hour then it drops and airport cannot locate any wifi signal. Anybody experience this?

There are a few things for you to try first to ensure a physical hardware problem with your MacBook is not the issue. First, try changing the network channel on your router. You usually have the option of 1 - 11. Next, if your router has some sort of interference robustness mode (as AirPort stations do) then enable it to ensure there is not some microwave or something somewhere interfering with your network. Finally, try repairing permissions on your MacBook using Disk Utility, then restarting.

Next time your network "goes down" see if it doesn't also go down for other devices such as other MacBooks or iPhones.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.
