My mac pro turns black and not responsive

Post by romeou » September 20th, 2008, 9:55 am

Dear all,

I guess someone out there might have had a problem like what just happened to me. Yesterday, I was compressing a DVD on my computer, and since it takes a few days to do the job, I left it on and it was working just fine. In the morning when I woke and wanted to check the progression, it was completely black and thought it was in the sleeping mode, but didn't woke up after all tried. I tried to do the typical start up things, like starting it with the main install disc, and all that, but still the computer us totally unresponsive and you cannot even hear the start up sound when you turn it on, and the keyboard doesn't do anything at all, I couldn't even make it to eject the CD, so everything is totally black and unresponsive. Is there any body who knows what I need to do to fix this?

You can try pressing down your power button and holding it down for like 20 seconds. Also try removing your battery and unplugging your computer to make absolutely sure it is powered off, then plugging it back in and starting again. But honestly...

If your computer doesn't make any noise at all, light up in any way, or give you any signs of life, then it isn't a problem that would be solved by software. It sounds like you probably have suffered a (fairly severe) hardware failure, and the only real solution is to call Apple to arrange repair. 1-800-MY-APPLE in the United States. Hopefully you still have warranty coverage.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.
