Installing os x with machine-specific disks

Post by helloimjoe » July 1st, 2008, 9:09 pm

Hi, I would like to install tiger on my clamshell ibook using Firewire Target disk mode since it doesn't have a dvd drive. My question is, since I only have machine specific tiger disks for other computers, will this get around that and let me install on the ibook? I will be using a macbook hooked up to the ibook, or could use an intel imac or mac mini G4, but am thinking it would be a better idea with the macbook since they are a little closer related (both laptops). I hope that made sense, thanks for any help!

An iBook and MacBook are definitely much further related than a G4. I believe the Tiger install disks with Intels are Intel-specific. Booting up a G4 and installing with it's own disks onto an iBook will work just fine.

In other words, there are no laptop/desktop specific installs, only processor specific.
I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do.
