I recently had good success salvaging files by running MacTerminal on two Macs
and transferring files from one to the other. MacTerm seemed to be happy to
read from a disk that the Mac otherwise found unpaletable. One advantage of
this method is that your really recover as much as you could hope for. One
disadvantage is that you need 2 macs (or a friend with a mac).
