Subject: [*] Bartender V1.2

A little non-patching init to stop the menu bar from being displayed
and/or used. Mostly of interest to Kiosk/CD-ROM producer/developers. (A
little extra function disables video cards without attached monitors).

V1.2 adds the option to "mute" the menu bar area (prevent any actions in
that area) or the whole screen (only allow clicks on buttons).

V1.1 adds the "Menus OFF" option to hinder use of the menu bar and has
been tested with MacOS 8.

Subject: [*] Color Picker Pro 2.0.2

Color Picker Pro is a small application that aids in finding color hex
values for use with HTML production. Color Picker Pro is more than just a
RGB to hex converter however! It can literally pull colors out of windows,
icons and Desktop backgrounds. If you can't find a color that you're
interested in using the former method, you can just as easily utilize any
of your System-level color pickers a la the Color Picker Pro application.
Once you've found the color you want, you're only a click, menu choice or
key combination away from pasting your hex value into any text-based HTML
editor. Color Picker Pro will also allow you to store frequently used
colors, undo and redo color changes as well as finding the nearest Netscape
216 Palette color.

System requirements:
* System 7.5
* Power Macintosh
* 16 or 32 bit color preferred

-- THE FASTEST WAY TO GET THESE PICTURES OUT OF YOUR CAMERA! --

The Kodak DC20 and DC25 are two cool and inexpensive digital
cameras that come with Mac cables and software. The bundled
software is very stable and pretty powerful, but it lacks a
feature that's very important for digital camera users: the
ability to quickly download all the pictures to disk without any
user interaction, making the camera ready for a new series of
shots.

The DC20/25 Link utility addresses this problem by providing a
powerful, highly automated way to transfer all your pictures to
disk. It requires very little memory and free disk space
compared to the bundled software, and lets you save the pictures
directly in compressed JPEG format (the bundled software's JPEG
format is uncompressed and doesn't make the saved picture files
any smaller).

This is Dot to Dot, version 0.8, a simple braille editor for the Macintosh
which is intended to be used by trained braille transcribers. Although it
is not yet version 1.0 (I still plan to add some more features) this
version has been heavily tested and is quite stable.

Included are:
Dot to Dot (the application)
Dot to Dot Fonts (font suitcase)
About Dot to Dot (Simple Text document)
Dot to Dot Users' Manual (v0.8) (Simple Text document)

The "About" file is available on the Web as:

Requires System 7, and Color Quickdraw. Also requires a keyboard that can
"see" six key-downs at once. See the "About" document for more details.

Subject: [*] eMerge 1.1.1 demo

eMerge 1.1.1 Demo
eMerge is a stand-alone Macintosh application that lets you create an
e-mail form letter, customize it automatically for everyone on your
mailing list, and send it directly to their Internet mail servers. You
can use eMerge's built-in tools to create a list of names, e-mail
addresses, and other variables; or import all the information you need
from existing database.

We've included a number of sample campaigns that show you how you might
use eMerge:

-- DOCTORS use eMerge to remind their patients of their appointments and
to invite them to make an appointment if they haven't seen them in a
while.

-- LAWYERS use eMerge to track down expired wills and invite their
clients to update their wills.

-- ORDINARY PEOPLE use eMerge to invite people to parties.

-- SMALL BUSINESSES use eMerge to advise their customers of new
merchandise as it arrives and of orders that have been delayed.

-- SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS use eMerge to advise their customers of software
updates or to follow up on technical support calls.

-- STOCK BROKERS use eMerge to provide their clients with daily
portfolio updates.

-- TEACHERS use eMerge to advise parents of appointments or send them
their children's report cards.

-- WEB DESIGNERS use eMerge to follow up on downloads from their web
pages.

This demo allows you to use all the features of the full version of
eMerge, except that you can only send ten messages in any one session;
and although you can dredge your entire hard drive for addresses, you
can only save the first ten people on your list. Even with these
limitations, don't be surprised if you find the demo useful right away.
(Don't tell anyone, but we used it this year to send all our Valentine's
messages.)

Find In Files 2.0 searches a set of files (or all files) for some text.

Why would you use Find In Files? Here's an example: Suppose you have a
bunch of HTML documents, and one or more of them has some information you
need. You could open every one of the files and search them by hand, or
use Find In Files to search for you. Simply enter some key words in the
"Search For" text area, optionally enter a creator and file type (or click
the Select File button, and open any file to get the file's creator and
file type), select the folder where the search begins, and click on Search.

Ever wished you could stop the Apple Guide or other help systems swinging
into action when you hit the 'Help' key by accident instead of the delete
key. Tired of waiting for Apple Guide to start up while your busy trying to
edit a document.

Then HelpLess is what your looking for. It helps prevent accidental hits on
the help key, instead just giving a beep.

When you want help to appear you can just hold down a modifier key and
HelpLess will make it look like you pressed the 'Help' key. A simple
control panel interface lets you turn it's activity on/off, control if a
beeps will sound, and choose which modifier key to use.

Compatible with System 7.0 upwards including MacOS 8.

Subject: [*] HugBug - the DebugStr utility

The purpose of HugBug is to aid in debugging software. The extension
patches the DebugStr trap and stores all strings in a queue. The application
then fetches the debug strings and displays them in a debug window.

This is a quick and dirty solution which can come handy in debugging drivers,
code resources, callbacks and various places where the use of a regular
debugger is not the best choice. Simply place DebugStr's in your code and view
the result using the HugBug application.
Minimal time information is also displayed with each string.

The DebugStr extension code doesn't move memory so it can be called at
interrupt time.

Icon Archiver 2.3J is the Japanese version of Alessandro Levi
Montalcini's original.

* The Icon Archiver is an extremely powerful database
specifically designed for easy icon storage and retrieval. It
can quickly scan whole disks or folders and grab all the icons
they contain, including those you won't ever see in the Finder
and all icon archives created by other icon utilities. It can
easily export them in most graphics formats, including the ones
you need for your web pages. Drag & Drop is fully supported, so
you can create or stick custom icons by simply dragging them
around. All icons are compressed on the fly to save memory and
disk space, and archives can contain a very large number of
icons (unlike all other icon utilities which are limited to a
few hundreds). Advanced features include removing duplicate
icons, sorting them by shape, filtering them by size or color
depth, and viewing them in many different ways. The Archiver
includes native PowerPC code and its icon handling routines are
highly optimized for maximum speed.

$25 shareware. Have fun and support Alex.

Subject: [*] Internet Config 1.4

Internet Config is an application that allows you to set Internet
preferences in one place and have them read my any other "IC aware"
application. Internet Config is supported by many Mac OS Internet
applications, including NewsWatcher, Anarchie, Fetch, and Internet
Explorer.

It is my pleasure to announce the release of Internet Config 1.4. This
version has a few new features but, more importantly, it offers significant
reliability improvements over previous versions. Specific enhancements
include:

o The IC application now supports "Get URL" AppleEvents, routing them to
the appropriate helper application.

o The extension now holds the default preferences, so you get default
preferences regardless of which application first uses IC.

o The extension now sanity checks preference files before opening them. It
also keeps a copy of the most recent preferences in the data fork of the
preference file, so it can revert to that backup.

Attached are three archives:

1. InternetConfig1.4.sit -- The standard user distribution.
2. ICProgKit1.4.sit -- The SDK for developers.
3. ICAppSourceKit1.4.sit -- The source code for the IC application.

In addition, the documentation and FAQ are available online:

Are you tired of getting the "The Application xxx has unexpectedly quit
because an error of type zz occurred" messages ? Are you depending on this
application to keep running at all times, even when you're away ? Try Keep
It Up.

What does Keep It Up do ?

KIU watches certain applications and monitors if they are still running. If
an application no longer runs because it "unexpectedly quit" or because the
user quit it, KIU will attempt to relaunch this application (and open
certain documents) or restart the computer. This will ensure that your
application is always running and available. KIU can also restart your Mac
at certain scheduled moments in time.

Version 1.4 changes:
- OS 8 compatible
- Feature: "Keep Application in front".
- Feature: "Delayed Launch". You can set a number of minutes before the
initial launch of the KIU controlled applications.
- Kagi shareware registration

NewsHopper Cleaner is a small application dedicated to helping you keep
your NewsHopper out basket in a clean and tidy state. It simply removes any
items from your out basket that are older than a couple of weeks and that
have been successfully transmitted. Articles that haven't been sent will be
kept until you either send them or delete them manually.

NewsHopper itself can delete articles as soon as they have been sent, but
does not allow for them to be kept for a certain length of time. NewsHopper

Subject: [*] NoReturn 1.1

NoReturn is a droplet that converts unix return chars (0x0A) to Mac
returns (0x0D). It's very useful for converting text files downloaded
from Unix systems and it's much faster than large text processing
applications for this purpose. The programme is designed for speed, the
only concession to aesthetics being the provision of a progress bar. To
use NoReturn, simply drop a file (or files) on the NoReturn icon. If you
click the abort button, hit the escape key or command-dot while a file is
being processed, the file will be left untouched. Double clicking the
NoReturn icon gets you the Standard File open dialog, which you can use
to select a file for processing.

NoReturn 1.1 is Freeware, must be distributed unaltered and must not be
distributed for profit without prior arrangement with the author.

What's new in 1.1:

Fixed a bug which would prevent NoReturn from quitting in certain
circumstances.

Provided an abort button and functionality to respond to escape key and
command-dot hits. This costs about 2 seconds when processing a 1 meg file
on my 7200/120.

September 19, 1997 - Froendenberg, Germany - Marc Mennigmann today
released Recall 1.2, an update to his digital egg timer for Mac OS
computers.

What Is Recall?
If you manage your appointments and other events with Post-it notes stuck
to your computer because you think electronic appointment books are too
complicated to be bothered with, then Recall may be for you. Designed to
remind you of appointments and events happening within the next days,
Recall sports a simple, intuitive interface. Simply click on the button
that matches the time period after which you need to be reminded.

In addition to fixes, 1.2 adds some new features:

- New Reminder-Actions:
Recall lets you specify the following actions to happen at reminder time:
show a dialog, play a sound, launch an URL, launch an application or a
document.

- Notification system changed:
The notification is no longer done by a window of the MacOS's
Notification Manager. Recall will switch to front and show a nicer window
instead. This increases compatibility with future operating systems and
third-party software.

Recall 1.2 is a free upgrade for all registered owners.

Recall is shareware. The price is US$15 for a single user license.
Special pricing is available to user groups.

Subject: [*] Sleeper D-3.0 - Sleep mode for all Macs

This is a submission of Sleeper D-3.0, the German version of Sleeper. This
update should replace the German version of Sleeper 2.1.1 already in the
archives. As usual, credit for the German translation goes to Christoph
Sahm .

Sleeper is a shareware control panel for desktop Macintoshes and Power
Macintoshes that dims the screen, powers down Energy Star compliant
monitors, and spins down disk drives after periods of inactivity. This
saves energy and reduces noise levels in your work area without forcing you
to shut down your Mac. Sleeper can also password-protect the screen and
shut down your Mac if it has been idle for too long.

Because Sleeper does not rely on Apple's Power Manager, Sleeper will work
on any Macintosh running System 7.0 or later, and does not suffer from some
of the quirky behavior reported with Apple's Energy Saver 2.0. Sleeper is
well suited for unattended operations as well as personal desktop use. For
file servers, ftp and http hosts, and fax and BBS systems, Sleeper will
wake the drives up when they are needed and put them to sleep when they are
idle. Sleeper is easily configurable; it provides hotkey control for
on-demand activation of its sleep features, and separate delay settings for
screen dimming, monitor power down, shutdown, disk sleep, and password
activation

Sleeper will work on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher, and is Mac
OS 8 savvy. It will spin down both IDE and SCSI hard drives, the screen
saver feature requires a color-capable Macintosh, and Energy Star monitor
support requires an Energy Star compliant Macintosh (any Mac on which
Apple's Energy Saver control panel works) and an Energy Star capable
monitor. Sleeper supports SCSI Manager 4.3 in native mode on all machines
and requires only 40K of memory when operating.

In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates are
available at the following web site. Also, keep an eye on the site for the

Sleeper may be included on the Info-Mac and UMich CD-ROMs.

Subject: [*] TextToMac 1.32

[TextToMac 1.32]

TextToMac converts the end-of-line code of text files between
Macintosh, MS-DOS/Windows, and UNIX formats.

** Please replace older version of TextToMac with this version. **
There was a bug that the conversion is incorrect when the last byte of
internal I/O buffer of TextToMac is EOL code. In that case the EOL
code is skipped, that is, the two lines are merged into one line. You
may happen to meet this bug with the files larger than 128k and the
probability is 1/(average length of lines).

Changes:
1.31
Add "Convert Folder" option.
1.32
Fix bug mentioned above.

Required System 7 or later. Freeware.

Subject: [*] The Squeegee Collection - AppleScripts for setting OS8 Finder P

Prior to MacOS 8, you could set your Finder prefs globally, via the Views
control panel. Now, you need to do this for _each_ window separately, and
this can be very tedious.

The Squeegee Collection is a set of 12 AppleScript droplets that automate
this task. With the collection, you can set your windows to be viewed by
Icon, Small Icon, or List, and sorted by Name, Modification Date, Size,
or Kind.

To use, just drag a folder or disk onto one of the droplets. It will
recursively set all folders within the folder or disk you select to the
same setting. It will also set the window to the upper left of the
screen, and use the minimum amount of screen space to show every item in
the window, assuming there aren't too many items.

System Requirements:

Any Macintosh or compatible running AppleScript and MacOS 8

Subject: [*] UnixDroplet0.5

UnixDroplet serves as frontend to applications normally controlled by
typing commandlines. It translates the user interaction using a standard
Mac-like user interface into the commandline you would otherwise have to
type into a console window or text terminal. This command is sent via
Apple Events to the controlled program.

UnixDroplet controls Macintosh programs linked to the scriptable console
interface, programs running under unix or ms-dos emulations on the
Macintosh, or programs running on remote unix computers.

Changes to version 0.4beta:

-UnixDroplet interacts with either Open Document or Do Script Apple
Events. It may now be used to control and interact with programs that
understand Do Script events like MacPerl.

-the scriptable console interface has been significantly extended and
many of the standard unix tools are available as fully scriptable
versions; i.e. controllable by UnixDroplet or via standard scripting
applications like AppleScript, MacPerl, Frontier, MacAwk,..These include
the GNU textutilities, some of the shell and file utilities, sed, grep,
Ghostscript5.03, gzip.

-MacAwk, a port of GNU awk, which interfaces to UnixDroplet is available.
Awk is a small, yet powerful programming and scripting system which
interacts with programs having the scriptable console interface. System
calls and pipes are supported.

The package contains UnixDroplet, a couple of programs using the
scriptable console interface to play with and instructions on how to turn
your commandline driven program into a userfriendly droplet. All support
programs are available at http://www.fh-furtwangen/~dersch.

Subject: [*] Version Master 1.5

Version Master is a client application which shows which software on a
Macintosh is out-of-date and where on the internet users may find
updates, patches, and upgrades.

Version Master compiles a list of the software on a Mac and displays it
in spreadsheet form. Users download the current version numbers and
update locations from the Version Master server. The Version Master
server currently tracks over 40,000 software titles from 45 countries.

Version Master keeps track of 680xx, PowerPC and FAT versions of
software. It also tracks beta versions of software independently from
release versions of the same software. Software is also categorized by
"country code" so localized versions may be tracked.

As an added bonus, users may indicate that they would like to receive
e-mail notification whenever a newer version of some specific software
becomes available.

Version Master 1.5 includes nine languages selected from a menu: Danish,
English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Slovak.

Here is a brief list of the features new to version 1.5:

Downloading Current Version Information is 300% to 500% Faster
Improved Version Identification
Internet Config is No Longer Required
Search Online Database for Software
Revised Scan Command and New Refresh Command Updates Documents Easily
New Toolbar Makes Document Control a Snap
MacOS 8 Appearances Support
Finnish and Danish Languages Added

Version Master requires System 7 or greater, 2M RAM, 3M Hard Disk Space.
