Re: New Mac User (Split Topic)

Hi bldene,
once you get familiar with it, you´ll find your Mac is one of the best computers ever.
Regarding an alternative Office suite you might look here:

GIMP e.g. will be a perfect alternative to ...

Re: Sending large email attachments

What would you call a large attachment? I know that some POP services have limitations in file size 2MB, 5MB or 10MB.
For the common JPEG files, they are already compressed, downscaling is the way to go, if you use e. g. a 10 mega pixel camera.
If you would like to try a freeware app for size ...

Re: HELP with finding me a right fan for my computer.

Sorry, I can not recommend anything, as I don´t own a G4.
The NB-Multiframe® MF12-P looks promising with 12 to 29 dBA, but i don´t know whether it will blow enough air.

Re: HELP with finding me a right fan for my computer.

Hey bulldog,
CFM = cubic feet per minute, the airflow, the higher the better.
RPM = rounds per minute, the fan´s rotation speed. Slower fans are supposed to be quieter.
dBA = sound pressure at metering curve (A), the lower the better.

So, b. would be my choice, if any.

The dB scale is logarithmic ...

Re: Speech to text on SE/30.

I upped the files (and some more) I was talking about here: http://www.mediafire.com/?8rr8ifd81jmj7ls
Just in case someone would like to try. The 6.0.8 image is bootable with MiniVMac as it is.
If the image is mounted with other OS, it may be unbootable with MiniVMac afterwards.
I honestly have no ...

Re: Help!! Unix/mac problem

At least you know them to be Mac files :-)
As Snow Leo ignores FILE and CREATOR types you have to guess I´m afraid, unless you try what Turboladdade suggested.
Classic has some apps that will show the ID´s, you could try to check the files there.
Can you open some files with Miro maybe? Miro has ...

Re: Help!! Unix/mac problem

Are those very big or confidential files?
If not, could you upload to Mediafire to let me take a look?
I have a GNU-Linux box and might try to inflate the files, if you wish.

You might also try the Unarchiver, which usually can inflate tar/gz files and a lot more.

Re: Speech to text on SE/30.

Hi Mark,
what about Macintalk from 1990 and VoiceBox?
You can type in text and let it read to you in a very basic way with System6.0.8.
I only tried with MiniVMac, but the SE30 should work fine.
Best wishes!

Re: Help!! Unix/mac problem

Hi,
could you be a bit more precise, please? What kind of files on which media do you want to move between which computers?
What did you try so far?
Best wishes!
